Our Mutual Friend, Stevenage

Was in here on 28 August before the Saints game. Beers from Brewsters, Mighty Oak, Holdens and Dark Star among others. Great pub, great staff and although I didn't eat the food went down well. The beer also went down well, it had run out by the time we left for the game!

The Symonds Well, Epsom

The Symonds Well reopened a couple of weeks ago and is now styled as Acorn 30, an urban bar and kitchen. The bar has been moved over to the right hand side and the pub has a clean and modern look.

As far as real ale goes they are keeping Youngs Bitter as a regular and they have one guest beer. This is currently Caledonian 80/- and is under a "house beer" pump clip "Down the Well" to give a connection with the past.

Opening hours are noon - 11pm Sun-Thurs and noon - 1am Fri and Sat (although I was told that they have a licence to midnight during the week if busy)

19 Sep 2012 15:22

The Drummond Arms, Albury

The Sussex Arms, Twickenham

Here right now on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Plenty of people in large garden, bigger than at first glance. Two beers so far, Cromarty Happy Chappy and Blackwater Rat Race (both 3.30). Both pale and hoppy and both excellent. Staff making sure you get a full pint and happy to give tasters. Wide range of UK and foreign bottled beers at sensible prices. What's not to like, a must visit.

8 Sep 2012 14:23

The Inn On The Green, Ockley

Visited at lunchtime while out walking. Cracking pint of Surrey Hills Gilt Complex (3.40), other beer was Hophead. Very pleasant sitting in the large garden. Landlord and landlady very friendly. Good pub.

18 Aug 2012 19:54

The New Inn, Send

Pleasant location by the canal. Adnams Bitter (3.40), Ringwood Best, Pride and Abbot. Landlady said a Cottage beer was coming on later. Nice to sit out in the garden, inside looked smart. Decent pub.

In here on a Saturday afternoon. Courage Best and Surrey Hills Shere Drop and Ranmore (3.55). Ranmore in great condition. Bare wooden floor, smart looking bar. Worth a visit.

21 Jul 2012 14:27

The Barley Mow, West Horsley

Just popped in for a quick one before a brief walk. GK IPA, Youngs Ordinary, Pride and a rather good Surrey Hills Shere Drop. Bar staff very pleasant, happy sitting out in the sun.

27 May 2012 17:36

The Faraday, Epsom

Doom Bar, Bombardier and Youngs Ordinary (2.85) which tastes ok. As noted below no real atmosphere, Smith and Jones pub so a sort of Wetherspoons Lite. Ok for a swift pint.

11 Oct 2011 16:57

The Boat House, Chertsey

No real ale and my pint of Boddingtons was pretty insipid. Service not quick, food was ok but overpriced.

10 Oct 2011 16:31

The Onslow Arms, West Clandon

Certainly open when I walked past today.

9 Oct 2011 15:06

The Bulls Head, West Clandon

Shere Drop (3.40), Doom Bar and Young's Ordinary. Traditional pub, inglenook fireplace. Hadn't been in here for years but decent enough.

9 Oct 2011 15:05

The Snooty Fox, Canonbury

In for the beer festival on the Thursday evening. Four handpumps but I think they all had festival beers so can't give the range. Standard festival prices were 3.50 per pint (50p discount for CAMRA members, seems there is a normal 20p per pint CAMRA discount). Service was fine. Recommended although would like to visit on a non festival day.

9 Oct 2011 12:24

The Ladas, Epsom

Closed and being turned into flats.

9 Oct 2011 11:51

The Jolly Farmer, Bramley

PS When I said dull choice I meant in pubs generally.

9 Oct 2011 11:50

The Jolly Farmer, Bramley

In here Saturday lunchtime. Doom Bar, Bowman Swift One, Quiver and Nutz, Nottingham Centurion, Cottage Somerset & Dorset Ale, WJ King Horsham Best and Shardlow Reverend Eaton's (3.55). Traditional pub, plenty of old pump clips around and old brewery signage. Busy with people eating so service at the bar wasn't the quickest but beer was good and far from the usual dull choice.

9 Oct 2011 11:49

The Central Bar, Shepherds Bush

Busy shopping centre Spoons. Festival on so a reasonable choice of beer.

9 Oct 2011 11:39

The Fountain, New Malden

Visited last night. St Austell Tribute, Adnams Bitter, London Pride and one other mainstream beer. Quality was generally average. Large pub, sports showing.

5 Oct 2011 17:32

The Great Western, Cardiff

Very limited beer selection on Wednesday night. Nothing special about this Spoons.

2 Oct 2011 23:36

Zerodegrees, Cardiff

Popped in here both before and after Saints game at Cardiff City. Bear in mind haapy hour is 4-7 when all pints are 2.20, I got my round just before!

Black Lager, Pilsner, Wheat and Mango plus a couple of seasonals Amber and Oktoberfestbier. Regular beers are 2.90, others around 3.30. Beer tasted pretty good, particularly the black lager. Decor modern and industrial. Interesting and worth a visit.

Surrey Hills Shere Drop (3.45, ok condition), Andwell King John, Hog's Back TEA and London Pride. Modern bar, some seating outside both front and back.

The Spotted Bull, St Albans

Recently taken over by Nathan and Sonia from the CAMRA award winning Jolly Coopers in Epsom (see 2012 GBG). Surrey Hills Shere Drop, Tring Jack 'o Legs and GK IPA. believe they are planning to expand the beer range and get a new food menu. Friendly locals pub, decent garden.

29 Sep 2011 21:26

The Eight Bells, Alton

In here on a Saturday afternoon. Bowman Swift One and Wallops Wood, Doom Bar, Ballards Best and Goddards Ducks Folly (3.20). The latter wasn't in great condition. Good chat with some of the locals, seemed friendly enough.

29 Sep 2011 21:19

The Railway Arms, Alton

Not to be confused with the Railway over the road.

Triple fff Alton's Pride, Moondance (2.80) and Stairway (2.90) plus Surrey Hills Ranmore. Beer quality was excellent. Reasonably busy on a late Saturday afternoon.

29 Sep 2011 21:16

The Four Horseshoes, Chobham

Marstons Bitter (2.80) and Caledonian Flying Scotsman. Another pump with a clip turned around. Chain looking pub with large signs advertising food offers. Mirrors inside make it look bigger than it is. Beer ok.

25 Sep 2011 14:37

The Sun Inn, Chobham

Traditional looking pub. Courage Best (3.10), Directors (3.20) and Adnams Lighthouse (3.20). Lighhouse was ok. Friendly enough, quiet early Sunday lunchtime.

25 Sep 2011 12:21

The Railway Bell, Tooting

Had 15 minutes to kill waiting for a train so popped in for a quick one. Only London Pride on (1.65 a half). Looks a bit shabby and run down, stage area around the back.

22 Sep 2011 12:41

The Antelope, Tooting

In here on Tuesday for a CAMRA meeting with the Antic people. Three Adnams beers - Lighthouse, Gunhill and Ghost Ship plus Purity Pure Ubu, Pin Up (Harwich Town) Natural Blonde and Williams Red. Also a cider/perry blend on handpump. Both the Williams and the Pin Up were 2.50 and in good condition. Larger than it looks, pub part at front leads through to an eating room then a big room to the left with a large screen. Very good.

22 Sep 2011 12:37

The Tooting Tram & Social, Tooting

Here early evening Wednesday. Pride and a decent pint of Purity Mad Goose (3.30). Not busy and a friendly welcome from the staff. Big sofas, candles on tables - you get the idea. Certainly worth a look but I walked straight past initially, it's set back in a courtyard.

20 Sep 2011 19:24

The Red Lion, Thames Ditton

Visited for a CAMRA branch meeting. Fullers Summer Ale, Windsor Knot and a Hancock's seasonal beer. Tried the first two which were in pretty good condition (both 3.15), evidently the Hancock's was flat. The Windsor and Hancock's had new fangled pumps which made them look like keg beers at first. Large room for food out the back and a garden beyond that. Friendly welcome.

12 Sep 2011 18:24

The Elephant, Faversham

Visited on Friday afternoon after a trip around the brewery and a couple of other pubs. Abigale Ridgeway Pale Ale, Hopdaemon Incubus, Whitstable Ruby Mild, Ramsgate Gadd No 5 and Franklins (Edge) Dry Hop. Discount for CAMRA members but not mentioned when we paid for the beers. Hopdaemon Incubus, Hobgoblin and Summer Lightning. Spacious pub with an attractive garden. Comfortable.

12 Sep 2011 18:12

OK Spoons, I tried the Sheps Fireston Walker Red Nectar which was in good condition. They also had a Wantsum beer but there were a few with the ubiquitous available soon labels. Decent outside area for a Spoons.

12 Sep 2011 18:09

The Jolly Gardners, Putney

In here on Monday night. Doom Bar (3.25), Wandle (3.65), Fullers IPA (the 4.8 version rather than Bengal Lancer) and Wharefebank Wispa IPA. Prices are per menu as I didn't pay, guest beers 3.50. Gastro looking pub, ales decent enough.

7 Sep 2011 17:05

The Black Swan, Martyr's Green

Shere Drop (3.60), Pilgrim Templar, TEA and Doom Bar. Mental with kids on a Sunday afternoon. Ok for sitting outside now it has stopped raining. Mostly restaurant inside although there is a small bar area.

4 Sep 2011 15:02

Popped in on Thurs 1 September. Only Courage Best (2.70) and Directors but it was in good condition. Interesting little pub, large beer garden.

4 Sep 2011 14:01

The Speaker, Westminster

Decent basic pub. on 25 August they had Landlord, Young's Bitter, Hydes Swift Delivery (3.40) and an Allgates beer that had just gone off. Helpful barman, worth a visit.

4 Sep 2011 13:59

The Tiger, Denmark Hill

Now owned by Antic Ltd and in the GBG. On Thursday they had 4 handpumps but only Caledonian Flying Scotsman and Adnams Bitter while I was there. Relaxing place for a drink late afternoon/early evening.

4 Sep 2011 13:57

Tom Browns, Dorchester

On Monday they had three DBC beers including Durdle Door which wasn't in great condition plus two Plain beers. Some decorating was going on so sat out in the garden. Ok pub.

1 Sep 2011 22:06

The Duke of Cornwall, Weymouth

Decent locals type pub. On Monday they had Jail Ale (2.80), Crop Circle and DBC Chesil. Liked it.

1 Sep 2011 21:51

The Pulpit Inn, Portland

Visited on Monday. Ringwood Best (3.30) and Pedigree. Pub a little shabby but can't beat the view.

1 Sep 2011 21:48

The East Dulwich Tavern (EDT), Dulwich

Orkney ipa (3.40), 5am Saint, Harviestoun Natural Blonde, Adnams Lighthouse, Hewitts Urbane Gorilla. A few foreign bottles and keg beers. Shabby chic, one of the Antic Collective chain of pubs. Here around 6pm and plenty of locals known to the bar staff. No bar stools but seems an ok place and beer perfectly acceptable.

31 Aug 2011 17:57

The Florence, Herne Hill

In here late afternoon Weds, quiet. The two Florence beers Weasel and Beaver (3.40 for a half of each) plus Adnams Explorer and GK Sun Dance. Meantime Pale Ale and Lager on tap together with light and dark Budvar and Erdinger. Some English and foreign bottles. Stripped down look, a bit shabby around the edges.

31 Aug 2011 16:48

The Buckingham Arms, Westminster

Ordinary, Special (3.40), Bombardier, Wandle and Bath Summer Hare. Special was pretty good. First visit so can't comment on refurb but there are lots of pubs with less character.

25 Aug 2011 14:42

Pride, Youngs Bitter and Doom Bar (3.30). Ok pub, dartboard to left inside. Some seating outside.

21 Aug 2011 14:39

Others were generally 3.20 - 3.50. Decent boozer, welcoming.

Only Black Sheep Bitter on when we visited last Saturday. Average Wetherspoonsesque pub.

19 Aug 2011 10:34

The Claude Du Vall, Camberley

In here on Saturday 13th. Beers were rapidly going off when we came in, Moondance and Oakham JHB got returned. A couple came on later. Food was ok as expected. Average.

19 Aug 2011 10:32

The Star, Malden Rushett

Hadn't been in here for a few years, clearly been altered inside and very much laid out for food. Beers were Cornish Coaster (3.45), Doom Bar and Old Thumper with a sign saying that Summer Lightning and Old Hooky were coming soon. Pleasant enough outside on a sunnt Sunday afternoon.

19 Aug 2011 10:09

9 Aug 2011 12:29

Pride(3.35), Courage Best and Hobgoblin. Smart inside, pleasant sitting by the canal. Reasonable.

28 Jul 2011 17:23

23 Jul 2011 22:08

The Venture Inn, Reigate

In here on 11 June. Broadside, Doom Bar, Pride, Harvey's Sussex Best and Castle Rock Preservation. Looked fairly modern. Sat in separate public bar. OK.

23 Jul 2011 22:05

The Market Hotel, Reigate

In here on 11 June when some sort of festival was going on in Reigate. Pilgrim Progress and Vest Alia, Harvey's Sussex Best and TEA. Beer was ok, sat outside. Seemed ok to me.

23 Jul 2011 22:00

The Nutley Hall, Reigate

Was in here on 11 June. Hall & Woodhouse K & B Sussex, Badger and Firkin Fox. Basic boozer, friendly landlord.

23 Jul 2011 21:58

The Queens Head, East Clandon

Came in here on evening of 7 July. Shere Drop, Brakspear Oxford Gold and Ringwood Best. Lots of people eating and a bit of a crush in the small bar area. Not so close to Surrey Hills Brewery now they've moved!

23 Jul 2011 21:54

The Star Inn, Guildford

OK Sheps pub, Whitstable Bay was reasonable. Quirky place on different levels.

23 Jul 2011 21:48

The Boatman, Guildford

Looks a bit gastro but decent ales - Hammerpot HPA, Andwell Gold Muddler and Shere Drop (3.30). Pleasant sitting by the river.

Pride, Shere Drop (3.30, ok) and Andwell Gold Muddler. Smart inside, seating outside on grass and in a courtyard.

11 Jul 2011 18:11

The, Gants Hill

I think this "The Bar" rather than "The"! Lucky there is only one pub listed under Gants Hill. Three real ales, Sand June and Model T from Mighty Oak and Fullers Seafarers but these change all the time. Modern bar showing live spports and they also have live music. Posters on the wall describing the beers, CAMRA discounts. Not supposed to drink outside but we did and didn't get told off. Great place.

10 Jul 2011 21:36

The Wotton Hatch, Wotton

Large food orientated pub with a pleasant garden to watch the traffic on the A25. Shere Drop (3.30, ok condition), Landlord and Broadside.

10 Jul 2011 15:11

The Craft Beer Co, City of London

Clearly a good pub, pint of Jarl I'm currently drinking is wonderful. While cask beers are on the edge of acceptable prices the bottles are prohibitive. Forget the foreign beers unless you've remortgaged and even Kernel starting at 4.80 is the best part of a quid more than the Old Fountain.

8 Jul 2011 16:26

The Fortescue, Mutley Plain

In here on 2 May before a Saints game. Good selection of real ale including Bays, South Hams and Blue Anchor. Cracking atmosphere, excellent service.

5 Jul 2011 18:09

BrewDog, Shoreditch

Boggart I Am Beer, Bowman Warbler, Hophead and Brodies Hackney Red on gravityon the bar. Foreign beer at astronomic prices. Attentive staff dressed in wacky clothes who serve drinks to your table and hit you with a 10% charge. A sort of Cask lite.

5 Jul 2011 16:04

The White Hart, Waterloo

Assume this is part of the M&B chain that has a few similar looking pubs around town. On 13 June they had Brewdog Alice Porter (very nice), Doom Bar, Pride and a turned around Purity Pure Ubu. Usual foreign beers and box of Old Rosie in the fridge. OK.

4 Jul 2011 22:46

The Inn on the Green, Hanwell

Stripped down look. Barman happy to chat but both the Pride and the Spitfire were indifferent at best.

4 Jul 2011 22:31

The Fox, Hanwell

For a CAMRA branch pub of the year it's a bit disappointing. Pride, Landlord, Doom Bar and Lancaster Amber on 29 June. A bit shabby.

4 Jul 2011 22:29

The Viaduct, Hanwell

OK Fullers pub serving Pride, Seafarers and HSB.

4 Jul 2011 22:26

Old Oak, Reigate

Brakspear, Adnams Bitter (3.05), Doom Bar and Youngs Special. Came in just after 6pm on Saturday as they were gearing up for a 50th birthday do. Down to earth locals pub and seemed a decent boozer.

4 Jul 2011 22:16

The Plough, Earlswood

Harveys Sussex, Doom Bar, Ordinary and Pride. Smart looking tradional pub.

4 Jul 2011 22:13

The Jolly Brickmakers, Redhill

Came in on Saturday afternoon as part of the East & Mid Surrey Ale Trail. Friendly local, three beers Brakspear Bitter and Buzz and Ringwood 49er. Basic, unpretentious and the sort of place I would use regularly if I lived nearby.

4 Jul 2011 18:13

The William IV, Albury

In here on a sunny Sunday lunchtime. Shere Drop, Ranmore ( an eye watering 3.70 and not that great), TEA and Youngs Ordinary. Nice enough country pub, no problems with the locals.

3 Jul 2011 14:00

The Hope and Anchor, Hornsey

Latest visit here to see the Mancs get stuffed by Barca saw Springhead Leveller as a welcome guest beer.

28 Jun 2011 00:14

The Pineapple, Kentish Town

Visited on 28 May. Bass, Redemption Trinity and Fellowship Porter, Adnams Bitter and TT Landlord. Has the look of an historic pub. Discounts for CAMRA members but not not obvious.

28 Jun 2011 00:10

The Hatch, Shaws Corner

In here on 18 June when apart from about 4 standard Sheps beers they had the latest version of Canterbury Jack from the Pilot Brewery. Pub was empty so spent some time talking to the landlord who clearly is enthusiastic. Seems like you might be lucky to find some guest beers and the Pilot brewery beers often feature.

27 Jun 2011 23:36

The Garland, Redhill

Visited on a Saturday afternoon, 18 June. Apart from the standard Harvey's they had the Copperwheat and Brown Bess Ale. Bottles on a list on the tables. Helpful bar staff, great pub.

27 Jun 2011 23:30

The White Lion, Redhill

GK pub with various derivatives including Morland Original but also real guests in the form of Otter Ale and a Hydes beer. Sat outside but interior looked interesting. Worth a diversion from the Garland.

27 Jun 2011 23:28

Stephan Langton Inn, Abinger Common

Being refurbished on my visit on 19 June. Main bar open and dining room at the back. Shere Drop, Pride, TEA and Ringwood Best. Not the easiest to get to but worth the effort if you fancy some walking.

27 Jun 2011 23:09

The Rose, Bexleyheath

Traditional pub serving 5 real ales - St Austell Tinners, Doom Bar, Harveys Best, Bombardier and Wells Eagle Ale as a guest which was a bit odd. Tinners tasted off but was changed without question. Friendly welcome, great pub.

27 Jun 2011 22:46

The Wrong 'Un, Bexleyheath

Small Spoons with a limited real ale selection but they had two Weltons beers on our visit. OK as they go.

27 Jun 2011 22:42

The Robin Hood and Little John, Bexleyheath

Good pub but for a free house with 8 pumps the choice is very mainstream. Adnams Bitter and Broadside, Pride, Brakspear, Harveys, Doom Bar, Brains Reverend James and one guest which was Westerham Summer Perle at a very reasonable 2.75.

27 Jun 2011 22:40

The Royal Oak (Polly Clean Stairs), Bexleyheath

Seemed pretty decent to me. Youngs, Pride and Harveys Sussex Best. Locals type pub with a good sized garden.

27 Jun 2011 22:38

The Seahorse, Shalford

Pride (3.25), Doom Bar with TEA turned around. Very much food led although welcoming enough as a pub. Large beer garden.

26 Jun 2011 13:40

Red Lion, Redhill

Doom Bar, Harveys Sussex Best and Old Pec. One bar, L shaped room around it. Drinking area outside. Friendly welcome. Ok.

18 Jun 2011 17:16

The Jack Fairman, Horley

Subdued lighting in a fairly standard Spoons that the barman said is only a Lloyds No 1 on Saturday nights. RCH Pitchfork, Cotleigh Nutcracker and a Naylors apart from standard beers.

18 Jun 2011 16:42

The Farmhouse, Horley

Pride, Cornish Coaster, Courage Best and Old Speckled Hen. Attractive looking pub, large beer garden. Flagstones in main bar, rooms with tables off both sides. Decent enough, map indicates pub in wrong place, it's further on under the railway bridge.

18 Jun 2011 15:18

The Gatwick, Horley

Hall and Woodhouse. First Gold, Tanglefoot, Sussex and Firkin Fox. Quiet on a Saturday afternoon, racing on TV and music playing. Large main bar, area to the left is separated off. Seems ok.

18 Jun 2011 14:46

The Ladas, Epsom

Understand it is reopening tomorrow.

2 Jun 2011 18:39

The Wheatsheaf, Oxted

Not sure why no reviews for so long. Super modern looking pub serving 3 real ales. Bombardier (regular) plus Westerham British Bulldog and Dorking Dry Hop Gold. From taking to the enthusiastic young lady behind the bar it seems they vary the guests and usually have a local beer. Beer festival coming up at the end of June. Cheap drinks on Thursdays. Pretty good.

30 May 2011 18:50

The Crown, Old Oxted

Regular beers are Pride, Adnams and Westerham Summer Perle. Maybe Westerham changes seasonally. Guest was Rudgate Battleaxe. Ales 3.20-3.30. Appears you have to enter via the alley to the right. Large beer garden out the back popular with families. Petanque court if that's the right word. View of the North Downs from the garden. Very pleasant.

30 May 2011 16:08

The Prince Of Wales, Westcott

Pride and ESB. Looks more like a restaurant. Large screen showing sport. Prefer the Crown.

30 May 2011 16:03

Crown Inn, Westcott

In here on Sat 28 May. Brains Bread of Heaven, Milkwood, a Theakstons and Robinsons Ginger Tom. An unusual mix. Had the Milkwood which was ok. Homely pub, was allowed a half even though they weren't officially open at 11.30am.

30 May 2011 15:52

The Dolphin, Betchworth

Youngs pub. Ordinary, Special, Bombardier and Waggledance. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Large beer garden at back and tables out front too. Nice enough for a Youngs pub

30 May 2011 15:44

The Old Bell, Old Oxted

Chef and Brewer. Doom Bar, Bombardier and Harveys Sussex Best (3.09). Harveys was decent. Set up as a restaurant but no problem with sitting at a table having a drink. No sign outside, had to check inside the pub to see which it was. Low beams, attractive looking pub. Ok.

30 May 2011 15:40

Ship Centurion Arminius, Whitstable

Regular beers are Adnams Bitter and Elgoods Black Dog Mild with Lonfon Pride and Gadds Dogbolter as guests. Seems they normally have a Gadds beer and they hVe a board with the next guest beer. Reasonably priced food, schnitzel was excellent. A great locals style pub.

22 May 2011 12:55

The Crown, Borough

Super pub, three real ales which tonight are Fyne Ales Creel Ale and Jarl and Windsor and Eton Guardsman. CAMRA discount but not obvious and you will need to ask. American bottles and the free wings they were doing were lovely. No beer list of bottles which would be helpful. Recommended.

20 May 2011 19:54

The Grape and Grain, Crystal Palace

In here on Thursday 12 May and was very impressed. A great range of ale, I tried the Kissingate and the Wickwar which were both in good nick. Others included Landlord, Westerham, Caledonian, King and Purity. Old Rosie cider and keg Meantime Kollner. 3.40 a pint as stated below but 40p discount for CAMRA members and we were asked unprompted if we were members. Excellent pub, can only assume 5.9 rating is inherited.

15 May 2011 08:27

The Barley Mow, Tandridge

Stopped in here on Sunday 8 May. Sussex, Badger, Firkin Fox, Tanglefoot was off. Large pub, food orientated but barman saw my Kingston Beer Festival t shirt and happy to talk about real ale. Decent garden out the back. Ok

11 May 2011 17:39

The William IV, Bletchingley

Youngs Ordinary, Bombardier and Tribute (3.30). Best pint of Tribute I have had for ages, tasted lovely. Small snug as you walk in, bar is around the corner. Decent beer garden. Nice enough.

11 May 2011 17:32

The Gazebo, Kingston Upon Thames

No cask OBB but the Extea Stout (2.55) went down ok. Plastic glasses and a plastic feel to the place. Pleasant enough to sit by the river.

11 May 2011 17:26

The Feathers, Merstham

In here while the wedding is on. Spacious old coaching inn. Pedigree, Bombardier, Marstons Royal Union and a turned around Adnams Bitter. Old Rosie on draught too. Seems ok to me.

29 Apr 2011 12:21

The Avenue, Southampton

Basic boozer serving Pride, Doom Bar, Black Sheep Bitter and Bowman Swift One on our visit. Came in here to watch football as Guide Dog wasn't showing it and a good option for that.

27 Apr 2011 21:17

CASK Pub and Kitchen, Pimlico

Remember this is "beer" in the evening. An average of 6.6 for this place is pathetic. 10/10 for me before and still. Have stopped selling Thornbridge because it is too mainstream! Super place.

27 Apr 2011 19:00

The Fox Revived, Horley

Popped in yesterday. Hophead (3.20), Arundel Sussex Gold, W J King Green Bullet and Pilgrim Surrey. Sat outside so didn't really investigate but a smart looking pub.

25 Apr 2011 22:35

The Barley Mow, Shepperton

Last night they had Summer Lightning and GFB, TEA, Cottage Jack And The Dragon and Andwell Resolute. Real cider and perry too. Lots of pump clips and old bottles around the bar. Worth seeking out.

25 Apr 2011 21:58

The Skimmington Castle, Reigate Heath

Tribute (3.40) and Harveys just gone off. One handpump with clip turned around. Lovely country pub, nooks and crannies and decking looking over the car park. Worth seeking out.

22 Apr 2011 12:17

The Stepping Stones, Westhumble

Ringwood Best (3.40), Pride, TEA and turned around Doom Bar. Looks like it is going to be more of a restaurant from the outside but light and airy inside. Ok.

17 Apr 2011 12:40

The Bell House, Camden

In here at the end of January. Deuchars, Greene King Royal London and Broadside. Basic little pub and not too far from the main Camden area.

3 Apr 2011 22:35

The Square Tavern, Euston

Not the easiest to find, but secluded once you are there. if you sit outside keep a lookout out for rogue footballs being kicked around by the estate kids. Pub looks like an office building. Only Youngs Ordinary and Bombardier but decent enough. Lady behind the bar was busy coping on her own but no real wait. Obviouly there are better beer pubs around but to take a break from the madding crowd this is worth checking out.

3 Apr 2011 22:31

Three Horseshoes Inn, Sidlow Bridge

Nice pub to be at on a sunny day today. Looked like regular beers at front of main bar are Pride, ESB, Ordinary and Harveys Best. Guests around the corner were King's Brighton Blonde (3.05) and Atomic Half Life. King's was ok just not a great beer. Maybe from comments below they are trying to do too much. Worth a visit.

27 Mar 2011 20:39

Ye Olde George Inn, Christchurch

In here on Saturday before the game against Bompey. Jimmy Riddle, Piddle, Thunder Box Porter and Slient Slasher with Ringwood 49er and Gipsy's Kiss cider. Historic looking pub, warm and welcoming. Staff efficient and helpful despite about 20 Saints descending without notice. Food was reasonable and decent portions. Recommended as a football alternative to going into Bournemouth, cab was a tenner between four to the ground.

14 Mar 2011 23:25

The Greenwich Union, Greenwich

Decent pub serving great beers, only drawback are the prices.

10 Mar 2011 23:16

The Rose of Denmark, Charlton

Half decent last gasp pub for Charlton football ground. Pride and Courage Best.

10 Mar 2011 23:14

The Spanish Galleon, Greenwich

In here Boxing Day on way to Charlton so driving. Sheps serving Masterbrew, Spitfire and Bishop's Finger. Several large separate areas, Sky Sports showing. OK.

10 Mar 2011 23:08

Old Red Lion, Holborn

Visited on 21 Jan. Greene King pub serving IPA, Abbot and Hen but also guests which were York Terrier and Springhead Robin Hood. Small pub packed on a Friday night. Not bad for a GK pub.

10 Mar 2011 23:05

The Brewery Tap, Chester

Atmospheric pub serving beers from Heritage, Cambrinus, Summer Wine, oorhouses, Ossett and Great Orme, real cider too. Busy early Saturday evening. No problems with the staff. Good pub.

10 Mar 2011 23:01

The Mill Hotel, Chester

In here on 22 January. Many ales including Phoenix, Weetwoood, Copper Dragon, Coach House, Harviestoun and Elland. Real cider and perry. Sky Sports. Nice pub.

10 Mar 2011 22:55

The Old Harkers Arms, Chester

In here on 22 January. Plenty of ales including Weettwwod, Abbeydale and Facers and there was somethiing like looked like a house beer. Different beers on pumps around the bar. Large, open and quite smart. Ok.

10 Mar 2011 22:53

Charters Bar, Peterborough

Certainly a different type of pub. Lots of real ales, although it was fairly packed after football got served in reasonable time. Better than it looks from the outside.

16 Feb 2011 23:01

The Brewery Tap, Peterborough

Excellent pub serving superb Oakham beers plus a couple of guests, Black Sheep Ale and Elgoods Black Dog. Bills itself as the largest brewpub in Europe. Food was reasonably priced and decent sized portions. Some foreign beer.

16 Feb 2011 22:57

The Jolly Farmer, Weybridge

In here on 23 Jan. Doom Bar, Ringwood BestLandlord and a turned around Surrey Hills Shere Drop. Decent enough attractive looking pub.

14 Feb 2011 22:50

The Ladas, Epsom

Closed and boarded up. Await developments

14 Feb 2011 17:39

Corner Bar, Crewe

Strangely enough I was here the day before the below reviewer. Other beer was Old Speckled Hen although they had another couple of turned around pumps with Salopian clips.

Doesn't look promising for real ale from the outside but worth a look in.

7 Feb 2011 23:53

Old Plough, Stoke D'Abernon

Rating clearly affected by previous problems noted below. Three beers on tonight: Deuchars IPA, Hogs Back TEA and Brass Monkey Bitter. Latter in very good condition and tasty. Worth checking out.

30 Jan 2011 20:24

The Bull, Horton Kirby

Decent enough pub serving beers from the new Kent brewery, Oakham, Marble and Dark Star. A pub respected by CAMRA members, would be nice if the reverse was true.

19 Dec 2010 13:57

The Hawley Arms, Camden

Greene King pub. Drank in upstairs bar where there were no real ales so don't know what was on. Fun after our Christmas party and friendly enough but hardly the greatest.

19 Dec 2010 13:52

The Swan on the Green, West Peckham

Came in here after a CAMRA branch trip to Nelson brewery. The four Swan beers wereTrumpeter (not good, very harsh and malty), cygnet (ok), fuggles pale (a light beer, not brilliant) and Bewick ( the strongest of the four and the best). Also had Hepworth Blonde, Erdinger and Biddenden cider. All bare wood and decorated with hops. Attractive location, worth seeking out.

19 Dec 2010 13:47

The Black Cap, Camden

Stopped in here after Christmas party. One handpump but not sure if anything was on. No frills basic pub.

19 Dec 2010 13:38

The Two Brewers, Windsor

London Pride and Windsor & Eton Conqueror. This was the last pub on a tour of the brewery and 4 other pubs so was a bit tired by the time we reached here. Atmospheric and worth a visit.

21 Nov 2010 17:05

The Windsor Castle, Windsor

Bombardier, Courage Best, Brakspear and Windsor & Eton Guardsman. Smart pub, seemed ok.

21 Nov 2010 17:02

The Criterion, Windsor

Friendly basic locals pub, Brakspears and Landlord were on. Landlady was helpful to our CAMRA group giving us local newsletters.

21 Nov 2010 17:00

The Vansittart Arms, Windsor

Seemed an ok Fullers pub. Discovery, Pride, ESB and Bengal Lancer. Plenty of non Fullers pump clips above the bar so you might be lucky and find a guest. Maybe more of an eating pub.

21 Nov 2010 16:54

The Duke of Connaught, Windsor

A decent Greene King pub because they are selling non GK beers. Abbot, IPA, Abbot Reserve with Hydes Jekylls Gold and Windsor & Eton Conqueror. This pub is next door to the Windsor & Eton Brewery and has been given permission to sell their beers. Only problem will be if it outsells GK which it will! Evidently if the pump clip is turned around it might just be to ration it so it's worth asking for a pint anyway. Dodgy Greek Sky showing 3pm Saturday football. Food not bad either and reasonably priced.

21 Nov 2010 16:51

The Stamford Arms, Lambeth

Two beers on Ringwood Best and Brakspear. Am rating this as 0 because not for the first time they have failed to provide food as promised for a darts match. Real rating as agony is 6/7.

18 Nov 2010 23:31

The Sekforde Arms, Clerkenwell

Ordinary, Special, Sambrooks Junction and Mauldons Broomstick. Lucky to hit this during national pubs week. Decent back street boozer.

15 Nov 2010 22:15

CASK Pub and Kitchen, Pimlico

Super pub, one of the best in London. Brewdog, Thornbridge and Dark Star beers plus others. Unusual draught foreign beer plus lots of bottles. Regular Meet the Brewer nights.

Looks a bit gastro but a decent pub all the same.

31 Oct 2010 12:11

The Vat and Fiddle, Nottingham

Castle Rock beers plus Oldershaws, Bath, Burton Bridge and Springhead. Beer in good condition. Basic pub, friendly and welcoming for away fans.

31 Oct 2010 12:07

The Stage Door, Waterloo

Adnams Broadside, Landlord, Doom Bar and a turned around Pride. Beers were ok as was the general atmosphere. Pool table a little cramped! Not great but not awful.

27 Oct 2010 21:36

The Anchor and Hope, Waterloo

Bombardier, Youngs Ordinary and a decent Hydes seasonal Hubble Bubble. Packed on a Tuesday at 7.30pm so difficult to get to the bar. A little bizarre that the barman served me (a short pint) and buggered off to sell champagne. Despite waiting for a couple of minutes he showed no sign of returning so claimed my free staff half. Naughty maybe but without lobbing pound coins at the bar I wasn't sure what to do. Try it when it's quiet.

26 Oct 2010 19:36

The Duke of Sussex, Waterloo

Pride and a good pint of Thwaites Original. Nothing to add to descriptions below, basically a decent honest boozer.

26 Oct 2010 19:14

The Well House Inn, Mugswell

Adnams Bitter, Hammerpot Bottle Wreck Porter, Surrey Hills Shere Drop and London Pride. Busy early Saturday evening. Traditional country pub, worth a look.

The Jolly Tanners, Staplefield

Cottage Hurricane, Harveys Sussex Best, HSB, 1648 Signature, Pride, Brains Dark, O' Hanlons Port Stout plus real ciders. Pub on two levels with handpumps at the top and bottom. Good pub.

24 Oct 2010 23:50

The Half Moon, Warninglid

Old Speckled Hen, Harveys Sussex Best and Dark Star Over The Moon. Gastro pub, even the bar at the back where the handpumps are had tables set out for eating. Tossers in for a wedding didn't help. Generally seemed OK .

24 Oct 2010 23:45

The White Horse, Maplehurst

Dark Star Porter (on gravity) and APA, Weltons Pridenjoy and Harveys Sussex Best. Some real cider as well. Traditional country pub with a smart conservatory and plenty of room outside at the back. Lots of irritating kids on a Saturday lunchtime. Decent.

24 Oct 2010 23:41

The Albion, Hampton Court

Pride, Ordinary, Meantime London Pale Ale and Skinners Pennycomequick. Had a board giving upcoming ales. Seemed to be a pub for locals but no bad thing. Beer was good.

17 Oct 2010 23:25

The Globe, Moorgate

Pride, Harvest Pale, Cumberland Ale, Centurions Ghost, Black Sheep Bitter, Landlord, Doom Bar, Adnams Bitter, Old Rosie. Typical Nicholsons set up. Dark in the Keats section, lighter in the larger bar on the corner. Need to check both bars for ales. Harvest Pale tasted great, I think Nicholsons are upping their game so bad reviews maybe can be reconsidered.

13 Oct 2010 19:07

City Tavern, City Of London

GK Royal London and IPA. Had the London which was all you would expect from a GK beer. Average pub.

13 Oct 2010 18:58

About six Thornbridge beers plus four from Hesket Newmarket. Plenty of foreign beer including Left Hand Imperial Stout on draught. Out of the main station exit and around to the right. A must visit.

The Riverside Cafe Bar, Sheffield

Decent riverside pub. brewdog Trashy Blonde, Brew Co Riverside Pale Ale and Pacific Jade, White Rose Raven and others beers from Anglo Durch and Great Newsome. Beer quality was fine. Draught and bottled foreign beer. Watched the football on a big screen. Worth a stop between Harlequin and Fat Cat.

26 Sep 2010 17:48

Harlequin, Sheffield

Great pub. Regular beers are a Blonde and Best Bitter brewed by Brew Co and 10 others including Spire, Northumberland, Glentworth, Old Mill, Durham, Milton and White Rose. Foreign draught beer including Paulaner Weisse and Budvar Dark and plenty of bottles in the fridge. Quiet on a Saturday lunchtime. Recommended.

25 Sep 2010 12:46

The Windsor Castle, Marylebone

Pride, Landlord, Brakspear Oxford Gold and Harvey's Sussex Best. Some foreign bottles, I spotted Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Boon Kriek. A bit gastro looking but ok.

19 Sep 2010 15:50

The Swan Hotel, Fenny Stratford

Just Adnams Bitter in here on a Wednesday afternoon although they did have a couple of other handpumps. Shabby looking.

19 Sep 2010 12:06

The Chequers, Fenny Stratford

In here on a Wednesday afternoon before going to MK Dons. Only one beer on Vale Wychert, they usually have another Vale beer. Quiet as you might expect, staff seemed helpful enough. Spent time watching Rachel Riley's legs on Countdown.

19 Sep 2010 12:00

The Bodega, Newcastle

In here on Tues 7 Sep when they had Big Lamp Prince Bishop Ale, Fuller's London Porter, Nethergate Old Growler, Durham Magus, Leeds Midnight Bell and a B & T beer. Old Rosie cider and foreign draught beers. Great pub.

19 Sep 2010 11:55

19 Sep 2010 11:50

The Newcastle Arms, Newcastle

In here on Tuesday 7 September. Big Lamp Golden Star and other beeers from Naylors, Rudgate, Wentworth and Marston Moor. One large bar, seemed welcoming

19 Sep 2010 11:49

The Newcastle Arms, Newcastle

In here on Tuesday 7 September. Big Lamp Golden Star and other beeers from Naylors, Rudgate, Wentworth and Marston Moor. One large bar, seemed welcoming

19 Sep 2010 11:47

The Charles Lamb, Angel, Islington

Came in here for a couple of pints on Friday night. Dark Star Hophead, Triple fff Alton's Pride and O' Hanlons Port Stout. First two are regulars established after talking to the enthusiastic barman. He asked us if we were CAMRA members and that got us a 40p discount down to 2.50 a pint, although even 2.90 would be cheap around here. A few interesting bottles in the fridge and real cider on the bar. Beer quality was superb. Recommended.

19 Sep 2010 11:37

The Bacchus, Newcastle

Flipside Sterling Pale and various others including Holdens, Magpie Midnight Porter, Wentworth, Brewdog Punk IPA, Orkney ipa, Yorkshire Dales, Jarrow plus Meantime keg and foreign beers on draught. Looked like there were some decent bottled beers including Belgian large bottles such as the Chouffe beers. Looks a bit upmarket but don't be put off. Fabulous

13 Sep 2010 19:18

Crown Posada, Newcastle

Beers included Durham White Gem and others from Allendale, Big Lamp and Jarrow. Smashing little pub.

13 Sep 2010 19:08

The Centurion, Newcastle

13 Sep 2010 19:03

The Angel, Thames Ditton

Pride, Ordinary and Doom Bar which were ok if not spectacular. Pleasant enough low beamed pub with plenty of tables.

13 Sep 2010 18:55

The Shepherd and Flock, Farnham

Altons Pride, Old Empire, Pride, Bass, Northumberland Bucking Fastard, Fllowers ipa. Bizarre location in the middle of the roundabout. Decent beers and attentive service. Not sure how you would walk here!

12 Sep 2010 16:41

Woody's, Kingston Upon Thames

Twickenham Naked Ladies and Greene King Eagle Brewery Bitter. Twickenham was in great condition. Stripped down basic interior, bonus of being able to sit by the river on a sunny day. "Twinned" with the Lamb in Surbiton.

12 Sep 2010 16:17

The Victoria Hotel, Durham

Hexhamshire Devil's Elbow, Big Lamp Bitter, Maxim xxx, Wylam Gold Tankard with Westons Bounds Brand cider. Lovely looking pub interior, separate rooms and one bar. Worth a visit

12 Sep 2010 14:12

The Water House, Durham

High House Farm Nel's Best (good quality), Maxim xxx and standard Spoons beers. Smartly furnished, one of the better Spoons I've visited although not the greatest choice.

12 Sep 2010 14:04

Market Tavern, Durham

Maxim xxx, Mordue Workie Ticket, Northumberland Fog on the Tyne, Directors, Hobgoblin. Beer quality was good. Music on Mondays. Came across as a faded Wetherspoons, younger crowd than in other pubs I visited.

12 Sep 2010 13:56

The Robin 2, Bilston

Saw a cracking band Ark here on Sunday. One pump for Hobgoblin which wasn't on. Keg Banks's Original and Bitter, other similar stuff too. Probably about 3 as a pub and 9 as a gig venue.

9 Sep 2010 16:49

The White Bear, Masham

Decent range of Theakstons, I had the Black Bull which was excellent. Quiet on a Monday afternoon but a very pleasant place to sup a half!

9 Sep 2010 16:44

The Black Sheep Brewery, Masham

Stopped here as I was driving north on the A1. Had a half of the Black Sheep Ale which was excellent, fancied a pint of Riggwelter but not sure Yorkshire Police would have been impressed! Nice bar in lovely surroundings. Tour worthwhile too.

9 Sep 2010 16:41

Bridge Hotel, Durham

Bombardier, Old Speckled Hen and Batemans Thirsty Work which was served very well. Clean and tidy, ok.

6 Sep 2010 20:36

Ye Old Elm Tree, Durham

Hill Island Peninsula Pint, Wylam Angel, Durham Black Velvet, Consett Steel Town and Deuchars IPA. Cracking local pub, from the pump clips they have served many different ales. Folk playing tonight. Was planning on visiting a few more Durham pubs but might stay here.

6 Sep 2010 20:29

The Olde White Rose, Bilston

12 ales as mentioned previously including Ironbridge, Bewdley, Big Lamp, Marble and somewhat strangely Fullers. Carvery was excellent and good value. Beers tasted ok to me. Recommended.

5 Sep 2010 18:06

Sir Henry Newbolt, Bilston

Hook Norton and Springhead beers apart from the usual Spoons fare with a couple of others waiting to come on. Pretty clean and tidy, small patio outside which looked decent. Much worse Spoons around.

5 Sep 2010 16:39

The Trumpet, Bilston

Seasonal special was the Wharfinger with the usual range of Holden's being Special, Mild, Golden Glow and Black Country Bitter. Dusty jazz and music related paraphernalia all over the pub. Jazz playing every evening and Sunday lunchtimes. Not much room inside but plenty of room in the beer yard.

5 Sep 2010 15:19

The Seven Stars, Bristol

Ignore review below, that's for the Trumpet in Bilston!!

5 Sep 2010 15:17

The Seven Stars, Bristol

Seasonal special was the Wharfinger with the usual range of Holden's being Special, Mild, Golden Glow and Black Country Bitter. Dusty jazz and music related paraphernalia all over the pub. Jazz playing every evening and Sunday lunchtimes. Not much room inside but plenty of room in the beer yard.

5 Sep 2010 15:15

The Junction Inn, St Denys

GK IPA and Abbot plus the more unusual Mild and Hardy's and Hansons Bitter. Also Bkack Sheep Bitter and 6X. A little disappointed as I thought the guest ales might be better. Decent enough local boozer and worth a stop between South Western and Guide Dog.

4 Sep 2010 18:07

Adam and Eve, Fitzrovia

Sharps Doom Bar and Cornish Coaster and Adnams Bitter. Visited because of winning a free meal so sat in roped off restaurant part at the back. No complaints about service which was excellent. Seemed a decent enough pub to me.

4 Sep 2010 11:11

Cricketers Inn, Pirbright

Pride (3.20), Tribute and Ringwood Best. Board stated Boondoggle on next. Smart inside, tables outside overlooking the green.

30 Aug 2010 17:48

The Jolly Farmer, Worplesdon

Fuller's pub and I assume ex Gales as they have HSB and Seafarers along with Pride. Other Fuller's in bottles. Decent country pub with a large garden.

30 Aug 2010 15:30

The Fox, Fox Corner

GK IPA and a not great Courage Best. Not onvious they serve real ale as you come in the door as they are around the side in what looks like a restaurant area. Clean and "bar-like". Large garden out front. Not one to rush back to.

30 Aug 2010 14:36

The Glassblower, Piccadilly

Deliver London Drinkers here so I thought I should check out the beer. Adnams Extra Special Bitter, Golden Sheep, Youngs London Gold, Spitfire was off. Small and dark downstairs, looked like there was an upstairs bar. Looks ok for central London and a chance of unusual beers.

29 Aug 2010 19:35

The Evening Star, Brighton

Loving the Priest lyrics below, always sing the song when I think of this pub. Can't add much to anything below just a brilliant pub. Shame I've only been here twice. Last time they had DS Hylder Blonde and Paradise Weiss as specials and Osset Silver King and a Mauldons beer with the regular DS beers and foreign etc. Super pub.

29 Aug 2010 19:26

The Regency Tavern, Brighton

In here a couple of Saturdays ago. Shepherd Neame and they had Bishops Finger, Master Brew and Canterbury Jack. Very grandiose, red seating with leopard print in the corners. Has the look of a theatre bar. A bit odd but ok.

29 Aug 2010 19:16

The Lion And Lobster, Brighton

Visited a couple if Saturdays ago. Dark Star Hophead and Festival, Doom Bar, Harveys Sussex Best, GK Abbot. Many pump clips above the bar. Hophead was decent. Pub bigger than it looks from the outside going back some way. Sky Sports showing. Pretty good.

29 Aug 2010 19:06

The Eagle Ale House, Clapham

Difficult to review purely on the basis of a beer festival which I visited last night. Don't know what a normal selection of ales might be but they certainly had enough on handpump last night with about 50 overall with the stillage in the garden. Seems an excellent pub and look forward to visiting again.

29 Aug 2010 18:54

The Lazy Dog, Bristol

Bristol Beer Factory Red, Sunrise and No7 with Bath Barnstormer. Real cider as well and a German wheat beer Weihenstephaner and Bitburger. Very pleasant in the garden, helpful staff, no problems for away fans.

29 Aug 2010 18:42

Miller of Mansfield, Goring

West Berkshire Good Old Boy and Rebellion IPA. Smart sort of pub although there are stools at the bar to give it a locals type feel.

29 Aug 2010 18:36

The Roebuck Hotel, Tilehurst

Closed

29 Aug 2010 18:16

The Seven Stars, Bristol

Cracking traditional boozer. Eight real ales which yesterday were art brew monkey ipa, Chedda Gorge Best, Moor Revival and Peat Porter, Plain Inspiration, Saltaire Cheeky Kriek, Thornbridge Lord Marples and Severn Vale Blake's Severn. Real cider and perry are kept out back. Also have live music at various times. Shame we only had time for one.

29 Aug 2010 12:41

The Montagu Pyke, Charing Cross Road

Place has gone downhill since I was last here. One bank of handpumps serving standard Spoons beers. Good for watching football.

27 Aug 2010 18:31

The Shakespeare's Head, Brighton

First Gold and Tanglefoot. Sausage and mash was fun but took time to arrive. Good basic pub.

22 Aug 2010 16:26

The West Hill, Brighton

Harveys Sussex Best and Summer Lightning which was a degree or two too warm. Also Westons cider on draught. Pleasant enough pub, helpful barmaid.

22 Aug 2010 16:05

The Battle of Trafalgar, Brighton

Harveys Sussex Best, Adnams Explorer, Ballards Golden Bine and Pride. Traditional boozer, decent.

22 Aug 2010 15:58

The Kingswood Arms, Kingswood

Harveys Sussex Best, Pride, Ordinary, Directors and Broadside. Harveys was fine, pub at front restaurant out back. Large beer garden.

22 Aug 2010 15:38

The Bull, Sonning

Pride, Discovery, Chiswick and HSB. 3.05 for Chiswick which was pretty good. Dark inside, low beams etc. Not far from the Thames Path and worth stopping.

22 Aug 2010 15:29

The Baskerville Arms, Lower Shiplake

Stopped here for a quick pint after finishing a section of the Thames Path. Pride, Landlord and Loddon Hoppit. Attractive pub, not too restaurant based. Decent garden, Hoppit was only 3.05 so not that expensive. Worth a visit and can be used as a waiting room for Shiplake station.

22 Aug 2010 15:23

The Donkey, Tilford

Two beers TEA and Andwell Gold Muddler which was decent. Looks a bit gastro, small bar inside but a very friendly welcome. Was invited to walk behind the bar to get to the large garden. Donkeys a feature. Well worth a visit.

16 Aug 2010 20:09

The Barley Mow, Tilford

Abbot, Doom Bar, Youngs Ord and Courage Best. Carpeted area to left with stones to right. Another eating area to the back and a large garden. Beer maybe a bit pricey but decently kept. Can't understand the low rating unless the foodies have been at it again.

16 Aug 2010 20:07

The Asparagus, Battersea

With half an hour to kill at CJ I thought I would wander along and see what sort of wasteland this place is. Standard Spoons beers plus a couple of Triple fff and Ringwood. Dazed and Confused tasted ok. Certainly some interesting characters around and as it is 11am no bad behaviour. Not the greatest but ok.

14 Aug 2010 11:14

The Blackbird, Earls Court

Fullers pub serving a decent range of their beers in good condition.

8 Aug 2010 17:12

The Minnow, Weybridge

Pride and Bombardier, Doom Bar was off. Also Aspalls Cider and Erdinger on tap. Clearly aimed at the food side of things.

8 Aug 2010 17:09

Old Crown, Weybridge

Another pub with potential but let down by the beer range. Courage Best and Directors, Youngs Ordinary and Greene King IPA. Nice in the garden next to the water.

8 Aug 2010 17:06

The British Volunteer, Weybridge

For a pub billing itself as a freehouse the choice of Youngs Ordinary and Special, Pride and Tribute is a little uninspiring. Beer quality ok.

8 Aug 2010 16:54

The Hand and Spear, Weybridge

Typical open plan Youngs pub. Not obvious from the road unless you know where it is. Ordinary, Special, Waggledance and Bombardier when we visited. Waggledance was pretty good, certainly the wasps in the beer garden liked it. You know what you are going to get.

8 Aug 2010 16:50

The White Hart, Bagshot

Here on a Sunday afternoon, very quiet. Two pumps serving Courage Best, two others with clips turned around and I couldn't see what they were. Plenty of room inside, reasonably large beer garden outside. Nothing special.

8 Aug 2010 16:41

The Sun, Carshalton

Came in after Saints played at Sutton. Landlord, Hop Back English Wheat Beer, Tring Colleys Dog, a Loddon and one other. Clean and tidy gastro pub, quality barmaids.

25 Jul 2010 11:58

The Hope, Carshalton

In yesterday lunchtime before Saints played at Sutton. Hophead, Art Brew Happy, Batemans Dark Mild, WJ King Green Bullet and 1648 Signature. The Mild and 1648 were soon replaced by Leatherbritches Bad Boy and Ascot Penguin Porter. Real cider too. Very friendly community pub, excellent.

25 Jul 2010 11:54

The Land of Liberty, Peace and Plenty, Heronsgate

Super pub with some great real ales, ciders and perry. Board shows the beers which today were Tring Liberty Al and Lunardi's, Red Squirrel Conservation, Acorn Old Moor Porter and Mighty Oak High Daze which was excellent. Large beer garden and smoking patio, plenty of old brewery prints on the walls and a friendly welcome. Advertise Belgian beer but I didn't see what selection they had. Recommended although if you come off the M25 be careful as the road to the pub is narrow with passing places.

18 Jul 2010 23:09

The White Horse, Parsons Green

Only my second ever visit here, criminal. Better than I remember last time maybe because I have caught the tail end of the US beer fest. Sierra Nevada Stout and Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA gone down well. Only possible complaint about this place is prices but to be fair for standard beers not too far out of line. A must visit.

7 Jul 2010 18:58

The Fox, Caterham

Not being a regular I can only say what I see and doesn't appear to be as made out below. Spitfire and Bombardier (perfectly acceptable) plus a guest currently Doom Bar although it wasn't on. Pump clips imply guest would be reasonably standard. Large pub catering for families on this Sunday afternoon.

4 Jul 2010 16:17

The Star Inn, Lingfield

Harvey's Sussex (excellent) and two pumps with London Pride clips. GK IPA turned around. As described below spacious pub, flagstones in the main bar. Decking area and large garden out the back. Ok

4 Jul 2010 13:16

The Royal Marine, Lyne

In the area so stopped for a quick pint. Triple fff Altons Pride, Doom Bar and Greene King Olde Trip and Ruddles County. Nice little pub with seating outside at the front and in the beer garden below the car park. Ales priced at 3.05 - 3.15. Closes for the afternoon.

3 Jul 2010 21:58

The Green Man, Bank

Decent enough Spoons. Pint of Naylor's Merlin's Revenge on Wednesday was excellent. Same beers upstairs and downstairs.

2 Jul 2010 19:58

The Running Horses, Mickleham

Visited with local CAMRA on 25 May. Chiswick, Pride, HSB, Youngs Ordinary and London Gold. Only pub I,ve been in where barmen are wearing bowties. Expensive. Could be a decent pub.

13 Jun 2010 16:21

The Black Jug, Horsham

Caledonian Nectar, Deuchars IPA, Harveys Sussex, Canterbury Jack and Fullers Summer Ale, one Westons cider. Gastro type pub, attractive outdoor area at the back. OK.

13 Jun 2010 15:58

The Malt Shovel, Horsham

HSB, Brakspear Bitter, Harveys Sussex, Courage Best and Doom Bar together with two Westons ciders and a perry. Looked a decent enough pub but quiet when we were in there on a Saturday afternoon.

13 Jun 2010 15:55

The Lynd Cross, Horsham

Below average Spoons with a not great choice of ale. WJ KIng Birthday Beer, Tom Wood's Harvest (soon went off) and the Zulu that was brewed for the festival were the only non standard beers. Food was ok.

13 Jun 2010 15:43

The Adelaide, Teddington

Spitfire, Kent's Best, Master Brew and Early Bird with Bateman's GGA as a guest I assume. Central bar with space all around. Nice sofas. Sports photos and shirts on the walls. Decent pub.

29 May 2010 16:44

The Bloated Mallard, Teddington

Twickenham Naked Ladies and Sundancer and London Pride. Certainly a strange decor and very gastro looking but mid Saturday afternoon has the feel of a decent pub. If you are a Harry Potter fan there are a few photos to check out.

29 May 2010 15:51

The Cricketers, Dorking

Chiswick, Pride and ESB with Jennings Cumberland Ale as a guest. Difficult to assess fir atmosphere as at 5pm on a Sunday I am the only one here. Large patio and decking area out the back. Very pleasant barmaid. Looks like a traditional homely sort of pub.

23 May 2010 16:58

The Kings Arms, Dorking

Master Brew, Kent's Best and Bishops Finger with Weltons Old Harry as a guest. Old fashioned low beams lots of nooks and crannies. Small courtyard out the back. Nice pub.

23 May 2010 16:26

The Pilgrim, Dorking

From the outside looks like a rambling pub, a bit shabby. Four real ales, Ringwood Best and Old Thumper, Pride and St Austell Tribute. Inside is quite smart, public style bar as you enter, sofas and armchairs to the left and a restaurant area to the right. Pleasant to sit outside in the sun in the extensive garden. A locals feel to the place but not intimidating. Ok

23 May 2010 13:44

The Hope and Anchor, Hornsey

GK IPA and Hen. Came in to watch the Skates get stuffed in the Cup Final with some Saints mates. Friendly locals pub with a community feel to it.

17 May 2010 00:25

The Good Intent, Rochester

In here after Saints played Gills on 1 May, anniversary of Saints Cup win over Man U in 1976. Couldn't see any beer when we walked in, some cider. Luckily we were directed to the garden at the back where there was a beer festival to tie in with some local event. Didn't visit the bar that could be accessed from here but I guess that was were the normal ales are. Festival had 30 beers with some interesting stuff.

16 May 2010 00:38

The Will Adams, Gillingham

Decent back street pub. Four ales including Summer Lightning, Adnams Lighthouse, Houston Blonde Bombshell and Dorset Ammonite. Friendly pub, chatted to the Gills fans. Certainly worth considering for away fans.

15 May 2010 23:23

The Dog and Bone, Gillingham

Not sure why the rating for this place is so low. Beers from Nelson, Rudgate, Pilgrim and Wantsum. Large pub with a central bar. TV screens and an outside drinking area. Ok to me.

15 May 2010 23:19

The Onslow Arms, West Clandon

Popped in a week or so ago. Two Surrey Hills beers, Courage Best and London Pride. Traditional country pub, low beams, nooks and crannies. Hopefully it won't change too much after refurbishment.

15 May 2010 23:12

The Southampton Arms, Gospel Oak

Didn't realise I hadn't put a reiew of this place from my earlier visit. Not much to add to other reviews, just to say this is a cracking pub which was even recommended by a barman in the Wenlock tonight. Had to tell him we had been in earlier today. One of London's must visits.

15 May 2010 23:01

The Kings Head, Shepperton

Visited here on Sunday afternoon. Tribute and Courage Best were on offer at a hefty 3.55 and 3.45 respectively. Pub itself it quite decent and the punters in to watch the Chelski game on 3D TV were friendly enough.

25 Apr 2010 19:08

The Priory Arms, Stockwell

Clean stripped down pub. Summer Lightning, Cottage Puffing Billy, Downton Honey Blonde, Sharps Special and Sambrooks Wandle. Foreign beers on draught included Gaffel Kolsch. Some standard bottled Belgians. Looks a bit gastro but food wasn't ridiculously expensive and portions were large. Plenty of board games available. Decent pub.

25 Apr 2010 13:58

The Kilvert's Hotel, Hay on Wye

Stayed here on business during the week. Kilverts Gold which according to Ratebeer is a rebadge of Breconshire Welsh Pale Ale wasn't on, Breconshire Red Dragon, Wye Valley Butty Bach, Pedigree and Thwaites Lancaster Bomber. Beers I had were decent enough
Traditional looking pub with a number of locals at the bar as you might expect. Food finishes at 9pm.

19 Apr 2010 18:46

The Wibbas Down Inn, Wimbledon

Average Spoons serving a decent number of festival ales in good condition. Bar staff were helpful.

18 Apr 2010 19:42

The Victory, Hereford

Left the Barrels to pop in here. Four Spinning Dog beers on which were in decent condition. Bar looks like the side of a ship, pub long and narrow with an upstairs gallery. Quite quiet but barmaid was friendly, definitely worth a visit.

18 Apr 2010 14:51

The Barrels, Hereford

Cracking pub serving about 8 Wye Valley beers. Bar seems to run through various public bar and lounge style areas. Basically a friendly down to earth boozer.

18 Apr 2010 14:47

The Old Coffee House, Soho

Decent looking pub with Brodies beers. One was indifferent but was end of the barrel. Special was quite nice. Similar decor to King William IV with old brewery mirrors around the place.

18 Apr 2010 14:42

Old Nick, Holborn

Out of the way pub serving Hall & Woodhouse beers, Tanglefoot, First Gold and the seasonal Hopping Hare which was a decent pint. Busy on a Friday night but there was room to sit down further around the back. Typical red frontage for the chain. Not bad.

18 Apr 2010 14:38

The Digby Tap, Sherborne

Visited after Saints got a last minute winner at Yeovil. Dorset Chesil, Yeovil Spring Forward, and Otter Biitter. Deuchars came on and Hidden had just gone off. Old brewey memorabilia around the pub. Very good.

18 Apr 2010 14:32

The Plough, Cobham

Attractive country pub near the River Mole. Courage Best, Brakspears Bitter and Surrey Hills Shere Drop which was very good. Ivy growing over the red brick walls outside, low beams inside. Decent.

18 Apr 2010 14:25

The No 2 Refreshment Rooms (Under the Clock), Cleethorpes

Disappointed with this one. Seven beers but mostly Greene King derivatives. Wold Top Bunny's Revenge wasn't in great condition.

3 Apr 2010 12:54

The Nottingham Hotel, Cleethorpes

Decent pub with a not great selection of beer. Tetleys Bitter and Mild, Batemans xxxb and a couple of GK beers. Worth a visit.

3 Apr 2010 12:50

Willy's Pub and Brewery, Cleethorpes

Industrial looking with the pipes and ducting. Bit disappointed they only had one Willy's beer, Original. Also Batemans Eggs B, Bass and a Woods beer. Some foreign bottles. Ok

3 Apr 2010 12:47

The Burton Bridge Inn, Burton-Upon-Trent

Traditional boozer, seven Burton Bridge beers. Excellent.

3 Apr 2010 12:43

Metropolitan Bar, Baker Street

Visited before Saints magnificent win in the JPT final. A bit disappointed with the guest beers, the Brewsters disappeared quickly as did the Cotleigh Buzzard leaving only Skinners Figgy Brew apart from standard stuff. To be fair there were a million Saints fans in and not that many staff. Decent building and a typical Spoons set up.

29 Mar 2010 19:24

The Volunteer, Baker Street

In here before Saints tonking of Carlisle in the JPT final. Spitfire, Harveys Sussex and Tribute with Pride being lined up. Usual selection of foreign draught beers for this M & B chain. Decent enough.

29 Mar 2010 19:19

The Fat Pig, Exeter

Visited on 6 February. O'Hanlons Stormstay, Exeter Avocet and St Austell Proper Job. 2 real ciders also. Stripped down gastro but we got talking to some locals and it was a decent place.

19 Mar 2010 23:20

The Raynes Park Tavern, Raynes Park

Large open plan pub. Rugby themed for the six nations. Pride, GK IPA and Brains Bread of Heaven which was fine. One for a quick pint while changing trains.

9 Mar 2010 22:53

The Berrylands, Berrylands

Now restyled as The Berry although still has Berrylands across the top of the pub. Gastro look but food not expensive and beers reasonable. Hog's Back Tea, Fkankers Tackke, GK IPA and Brakspears Oxford Gold which was excellent.

9 Mar 2010 22:48

The Ship and Mitre, Liverpool

Only had time for half an hour in here unfortunately. Many real ales and foreign beers. Central bar with drinking areas all the way around. Decent barmaids.

7 Mar 2010 20:29

The Lion Tavern, Liverpool

Came in on the way back from Tranmere but despite the bank of handpumps only Bombardier was on. Hopefully a temporary abberation.

7 Mar 2010 20:23

Thomas Rigby's, Liverpool

Two Okells plus offerings from Newman, Saltaire and Hadrian & Borders. Decent selection of foreign beer on draught and in bottles including 10% N'Ice Chouffe, "Green" Duvel and fruit beers. Screens showing diffent games, we stayed in the first room but looked like there was plenty of space in rooms further back. Excellent.

7 Mar 2010 20:19

Globe, Liverpool

Small friendly pub yesterday served Cains Bitter, Black Sheep Bitter, Brains Bread of Heaven and Exmoor Ale. Good crowd in there at lunchtime, group of girls on a birthday bash singing along to the music. Standing room only, worth a visit.

7 Mar 2010 20:10

The Royal Oak, Wood Street

Another pub visited on a beer tour around Surrey. Surrey Hills beers plus others. Decent pub and the sausage rolls went down well.

1 Mar 2010 18:54

The Crossways Inn, Churt

Visited on a tour round hard to get to pubs after a trip to Hog's Back. Standard beers seem to be Hop Back Crop Circle and Courage Best. Guests included Entire Stout, Elerado, Downton Apple Blossom, Forty Niner and a very good Church End Goats Milk. Friendly staff, traditional pub just a shame it's a drive.

1 Mar 2010 18:50

The White Hart, Tongham

Visited on Saturday after a trip to Hog's Back. A board listing potentially 10 ales and cider, had the Cornish Coaster as wanted to ease back a little. Interesting pub with a central bar and different areas all the way around catering for all tastes. Decent.

1 Mar 2010 18:44

The Ladas, Epsom

Now back open and being run by Stuart and Gemma from the White Horse. They have done a lot of work cleaning the place up. Had three beers on last night, Ruddles County, Purity Mad Goose and Doom Bar. Another couple of pumps to be installed. Looks promising.

23 Feb 2010 08:07

The Coach and Horses, Norwich

In here after Saints win at Norwich. 7 different Chalk Hill beers, we had the CHB and the Flintknappers Mild which were both pretty decent. 2.20 - 2.80 for the standard beers and you can get 4 pint jugs to make it even cheaper. Bare looking pub, would be interesting to visit without the large football crowd. Worth a visit.

21 Feb 2010 16:44

The Edmund Tylney, Leatherhead

Update to my previous review. Beer choice now includes local ales. Toight they had Dorking Northdown Bel, Pilgrim Talisman and Hog's Back OTT. Abbot and Ruddles Best made up the rest with an Itchen Valley Imperial Stout not being ready. Quiet Sunday night and can't fault the staff. Up a couple of marks.

7 Feb 2010 20:37

The Plough, Leatherhead

Pride and Youngs Ordinary but not obvious from the public bar at the front as the handpumps are in the lounge. Public bar has dartboard and pool table. Separate lounge. Pride was just ok.

7 Feb 2010 19:51

Penny Black, Leatherhead

Youngs Special and Wells Bombardier. Youngs Ordinary and Winter Warmer were off. Various Wells Youngs bottles. Hasn't changed too much from it's Hogshead days. Adequate

7 Feb 2010 19:46

The Royal Oak, Bookham

Update to review below as beer selection was much better. Two from each of Hammerpot, Dark Star and Surrey Hills with GK IPA also. Hammerpot Bottle Wreck Porter was excellent.

7 Feb 2010 17:09

The Anchor, Bookham

Shere Drop, London Pride, Harveys Sussex Best, Courage Best and Directors. Shere Drop was excellent. Attractive low beamed pub with seating areas surrounding the central bar. Locals seemed friendly enough. Decent.

7 Feb 2010 17:06

The Royal Oak, Leatherhead

Old Speckled Hen only beer on, GK IPA was turned around. Large one bar pub, raised area in the corner. Dartboard and pool table. Locals sitting at the bar. Ok but unremarkable.

7 Feb 2010 17:02

The Magpie and Crown, Brentford

Was in on 26th and clearly still open. Two Twickenham beers, TEA and Winter Warmer. Ok but not as good as it was.

1 Feb 2010 21:59

The George, Great Portland Street

GK but not bad. Tonight they have IPA, Old Hookey and Westgate Flankers Tackle (probably another GK) beer. Ornate, old fashioned, dark wood panelled pub. Considering I work so close a reasonable find.

1 Feb 2010 21:21

The Amato, Epsom

Pride, Harveys Best and Youngs Ordinary. Seems like a pretty decent pub. Real fire, dartboard, garden. Good local boozer.

31 Jan 2010 19:20

The Red Lion, Bletchley

Visited before Saints 1 - 0 win over MKD in the JPT. Black Sheep Bitter and Youngs Winter Warmer with Westons Traditional Cider also on handpump. Both beers in goood nick. Main bar has a pool table, dart board in smaller bar to the left. I heard some Genesis and Tull playing, not sure if it was radio, CD or jukebox. Looks like it's the best option for Franchise FC and probably a nice place to be when it's warm.

29 Jan 2010 23:24

The Bear, Oxshott

Visited today for Sunday lunch, managed to get in but booking probably a good idea. Youngs Ordinary was under 3 quid, also had Special, Bombardier and Winter Warmer. Newspapers laid out on a table. Food was maybe a little expensive but mixed roast was a mound of meat and was very good as was the ice cream.

24 Jan 2010 16:18

Jerusalem Bar, Fitzrovia

Ok, if you want a decent pub this isn't it. Print a voucher for a cheap bottle of wine. Clearly shit but attracts the clientele it deserves.

22 Jan 2010 23:56

The Kings Arms, Soho

Interesting to visit. Decent pint of Brains SA Gold also had Pride. Came in here with a couple of girls. Don't be scared you won't get bummed in the toilets! Ok pub

22 Jan 2010 23:50

The Euston Flyer, Euston

Have reviewed this before and it is ok but the prices are starting to get ridiculous.

18 Jan 2010 22:07

Prince Arthur, Euston

Thursday 14 Jan they only had a just about ok 6X and Pride. Deuchars and Landlord off. Enjoyed the art. Pleasant barmaid.

18 Jan 2010 22:04

The Royal George, Euston

In here on 15 January as part of a crawl. Disappointed as there were only two beers on, Bombardier and Broadside. Looks like most of the others would have been GK. Old fashioned type pub, peeling wallpaper. Better pubs around.

18 Jan 2010 21:45

The Druid's Head, Kingston Upon Thames

GK IPA, Ruddles County and Hen plus Black Sheep Bitter and Keltek Arthur's Ale. Small public bar with no actual bar, there is a bell to ring but not too loudly. Ok

12 Jan 2010 18:38

The Horseshoe, Clerkenwell

Set out like a cafeteria. Cornish Coaster and GK IPA. Dart board and bar billiards.

11 Jan 2010 20:21

The Sir John Oldcastle, Farringdon

Average Spoons. A few too many "Sorry not availables". Itchen Valley Fagins was ok.

11 Jan 2010 20:17

Zero Degrees, Reading

They must have at least eight different beers although I didn't count them. Pale Ale tasted good, the wheat beer didn't seem quite right. Loos are mildly amusing. Would visit again.

1 Jan 2010 23:47

The Red Lion, Reading

Caledonian 80/-, Black Sheep Bitter and Ringwood Best. Beer quality wasn't up to much. OK pub and the pints were changed without a quibble.

1 Jan 2010 23:44

The Three Guineas, Reading

Eight real ales in here on Wednesday - Conwy Hoppy Christmas, Inveralmond Santa's Swalie, Andwell King John, Sharps Nadelik, Springhead Christmas Cranberry, Cairngorm Sheep Shaggers Gold, Lees John Willies and GK IPA. Large pub, rugby shirts hung all around the pub. Decent for a station pub.

1 Jan 2010 23:40

The Bricklayers, Colchester

On Dec 28 they had a decent range of Adnams plus Harviestoun Mr Sno'balls, Purity Ubu and Everards Sleigh Bell. Busy after football but got in no problem and served reasonably quickly. Near to the station for an after match pint if you are waiting for a train.

1 Jan 2010 23:35

Dragoon, Colchester

Visited on 28 December. Three Adnams beers, Bitter, Explorer and Old and Everards Sleigh Bell. Be careful of the step down into the toilets. Generally ok.

1 Jan 2010 23:30

The Fat Cat, Colchester

A revisit on Monday 28 Dec after the occasion reviewed below two years ago. Not convinced about the beer quality on this occasion as it lacked condition.

1 Jan 2010 23:28

The Fox and Fiddler, Colchester

Visited on 28 December. Three Mighty Oak beers - Oscar Wilde, Malden Gold and English Oak with Youngs Ordinary. Narrow pub with exposed brickwork and low beams. Good.

1 Jan 2010 23:25

The Playhouse, Colchester

Visited on Monday 28 December. Apart from the standard Spoons beers they had Bath Dark Hare, and a Cotleigh and a couple of Nethergates. One of the more interesting Spoons pubs and as we had arrived at 11.30 it opened before the GBG pubs.

1 Jan 2010 23:22

Half and Half, Croydon

Has the look of a proverbial trendy wine bar. Dark Star Hophead and Espresso Stout, Hophead was excellent. A small list of foreign beers plus 8 or so Christmas specials listed on a separate card on the bar. 2.70 for Hophead, didn't see any reference to a Camra discount. A bit different and well worth finding.

31 Dec 2009 16:35

Founders Arms, Bankside

In here on a dismal winter's day. Ordinary, Special, Bombardier and a pretty decent Winter Warmer. Nice to sit and look out of the window over the Thames. Candle us keeping my hands warm. OK for now while it's not busy.

29 Dec 2009 15:13

The Grove Inn, Holbeck

On Dec 19 the beers were Elland Bora Bora and El Divino, salamander chrimbo bimbo, Leeds midnight bell, daleside blonde, moorhouse black cat and pride of pendle, deuchars IPA and old rosie cider. Multi room layout was nice to see, highly recommended.

28 Dec 2009 08:25

The Midnight Bell, Leeds

Visited here with Saints on 19 December. Can't add much to the review by oldboots below except to say the seasonals were Ale Maryand a 6.5% Belguan Dubbel style beer called Tantalus plus a guest, Milestone Lion's Pride. Worth combining with the Cross Keys.

28 Dec 2009 08:19

The Cross Keys, Holbeck

Visited on Dec 19 as Saints were in Leeds. The below review is very accurate. Beers were Roosters Outlaw Boneshaker IPA, York Three Kings and Acorn Old Moor Porter, Barnsley Bitter was off. A selection of foreign bottled Christmas beers were listed on the blackboard. Good pub.

16 Dec 2009 22:01

Mawson Arms/ Fox and Hounds, Chiswick

In here before a brewery visit. Standard range of Fullers plus Jack Frost. Fullers memorabilia around the walls. Brewery visit is certainly recommended.

4 Dec 2009 19:58

Leyton Orient Supporter's Club, Leyton

Didn't realise this place was listed on the site. Popped in on the Saturday of the Saints game at the end of October. I understand they had turned over at least 10 ales during the day. Supposedly you need a CAMRA card to get in but they weren't checking after te game. Great place.

29 Nov 2009 23:43

Victoria Inn, Northampton

Vale Brewery pub. Visited Saturday evening as the band was setting up. Four Vale beers and Hoggleys Northamptonshire Bitter. They had sold out of a couple of other ales including Ironbridge. Also sell Chimays and Duvel. Excellent street corner pub.

29 Nov 2009 11:53

The Malt Shovel, Northampton

Cracking pub. Five regulars from Great Okley, Frog Island and London Pride and 8 guests including Coach House, Festival, Bridge of Allan, GK, Holts, RCH, Cairngorm and another Great Oakley. Draught fruit beers were Bacchus Kriek and Timmermans Strawberry and Peach. Decent selection of foreign and british bottled beer. Friendly pub, decent basic food, excellent all round. Breweriana decorates the walls to add to the atmoshere.

29 Nov 2009 11:44

The Kings Arms, Epsom

Now reopened. Been done up but I hadn't been in here before so can't say what's changed. Public style bar at the front with tables on a raised area at the back. Dark outside but looks like there is a veranda on two sides. Piped music playing fairly loudly. Ordinary, Bombardier, Courage Best and Tribute. Latter is pretty good. Typical modernised pub, visit while you can still smell the paint!

26 Nov 2009 21:06

King Johns Tavern, Hartlepool

Decent Spoons. Rudgate Ruby Mild, Brewsters Decadence and Daleside Old Leg Over as well as the usuals

25 Nov 2009 23:44

The Causeway, Hartlepool

Marstons pub serving all the other branded ales such as Camerons, Wychwood, Banks's and Jennings. Ridiculous head on the Strongarm, really deserved a flake, but that's what you get up north. Friendly pub and worth a visit.

25 Nov 2009 23:39

The Maltings, York

We had about half an hour to kill at York so took a five minute walk to this place. Decent little pub, 7 ales including some small breweries like Green Tye, Bird Brain and Black Tower. Also from Wentworth, York, Roosters and their regular Black Sheep. Some foreign beer on tap including both regular and dark Budvar, Erdinger and Liefmans Kriek. Worth seeking out.

25 Nov 2009 09:09

Assuming this is the North Terminal only Pedigree and Ruddles Best, Abbot was off. Decent enough pint though.

20 Nov 2009 10:10

The Fire Station, Waterloo

Popped in for a quick one this evening. Pride, Ringwood Best and Brakspear which was a decent pint. Drinking at front, roped off eating area at the back. Busy, brash and noisy but ok.

17 Nov 2009 19:25

The Angel, Angel, Islington

Popped in for a quick one before Magnum at the Islington O2. Festival was on so sampled some third pints. Unremarkable Spoons.

13 Nov 2009 09:06

The White Lion, Aldershot

Great pub. Triple fff beers were Pressed Rat, Alton's Pride and Moondance. Stairway was on the board but not available. Other beers were Hog's Back Autumn Ale and Vale Something Wicked. Friendly pub and recommended for a pre match drink.

7 Nov 2009 21:49

Rodboro Buildings, Guildford

Definitely one of the better Spoons. Clean and tidy and plenty of space on different levels. Must have had 6-7 festival beers on in decent condition.

7 Nov 2009 21:32

The William IV, Leyton

Excellent pub as most others have said. Last night they had English, IPA, Red, Amarilla, Dukies (I think it's a blend), Porter and Californian. I treated it like a beer festival to try the ones new to me. All good beers particularly the 7.8% Porter. Friendly pub, good food and well worth seeking out. They also sell their bottled beers.

1 Nov 2009 12:03

The Jolly Angler, Manchester

Great as a traditional friendly boozer, not so great as a pub for beer - just Hydes Original when we were there. Take your pick.

23 Oct 2009 14:07

The Ashton Arms, Oldham

Visited with Saints on Saturday and this was an excellent pub. Around seven real ales including Pennine, Pictish, Acorn, Copper Dragon, Moorhouses and Prospect. Decent list of foreign bottled beer too. Beers they've had are listed on various boards around the walls but they've given up counting. Friendly locals, top notch.

21 Oct 2009 19:10

The Three Lions, Godalming

Full range of Sheps which on Sunday included Spitfire, Master Brew, Kent's Best and Late Red. Can't add much to Roger B's description. Worth a look in if you like the beer.

14 Oct 2009 11:12

The Leathern Bottle, Godalming

TEA and Pride. Looks like a fairly traditional boozer

11 Oct 2009 17:46

The Leathern Bottle, Godalming

TEA and Pride. Looks like a fairly traditional boozer

11 Oct 2009 17:45

The Britannia, Guildford

Range of Sheps including the seasonal Late Red. Has the look of a foodie pub but it seemed ok.

11 Oct 2009 14:44

The Rowbarge, Guildford

Ascot Posh Pooch, On The Rails, Andwell King John and in the cellar Pilgrim Autumnal. Good beer, good food, good pub

11 Oct 2009 14:40

Doom Bar and Pride as stated above, both were ok. Separate public and lounge bars. Welcoming was friendly. A bit out of the way though.

11 Oct 2009 07:16

The Harp, Covent Garden

Thank god they've kicked Punch out. Definitely a better beer range than before. Wolf, White Horse, RCH, Moorhouse with the usual suspects.

30 Sep 2009 22:43

The Glue Pot, Swindon

Only realised I hadn't reviewed this place after a visit in August. Apart from the Hop Back they had White Horse beers. Excellent pub and worth a visit.

30 Sep 2009 19:49

The Wheatsheaf on the Green, Esher

27 Sep 2009 10:57

The Bear, Esher

Visited on 17 September. Ordinary, Special and Kew Gold were on. Separate areas for eating and a couple of odd rooms off the main area. Beer was fine and place seemed ok to me.

27 Sep 2009 10:50

The Albany, Great Portland Street

Am in pub right now. Ordered some beers they told it was going to me 10 minutes as they were changing the barrel. Half an hour later... Only staying because we are with people and it's a tick.

25 Sep 2009 19:32

Wetherspoons, Victoria Station

Standard Spoons. Apart from the usual they had Caledonian 80 Shilling and Butcombe Bitter which was unspectacular. Ok for a quick pint.

16 Sep 2009 20:02

Charlotte Street Blues, Fitzrovia

Just wrote a review and it got lost. Suffice to say no real ale, full of luvvies but ok for music.

14 Sep 2009 22:58

The Royal Oak, Bookham

Dropped in for one only as I was driving. For a place that serves 7 ales the choice was a little disappointing being GK IPA and Abbot, Pride, Youngs Ordinary and Courage Best with Surrey Hills Ranmore (soon went off) and Thwaites Golden Wunder. Had the latter which tasted ok but did have bits floating in it. Quiz was going on and it seemed like a friendly pub.

14 Sep 2009 22:47

The Goat, Upper Halliford

Visited on Sunday night with my mum. We had tried it the week before but it was packed and there was an hour's wait. Got a seat in the carvery straight away. Were asked for drinks so asked what real ale they had. This seemed to confuse the waitress who said they had Bombardier but actually turned up with Youngs Bitter, although to be fair it was pretty good. It was only when I checked the beers on the way out that I found out they had Rebellion Smuggler too which I would have gone for. Meals were ok although if it is "as much as you can eat" as stated below it wasn't obvious.

Difficult to mark but if you just went in for a drink I think it would be ok as a pub but a little soulless like all foodie orientated places.

14 Sep 2009 22:38

The New Inn, Southampton

Now called the Usual Suspects but still has the New Inn sign outside.

7 Sep 2009 18:12

The Thames Court, Shepperton

In here last night for a meal . Beers were Pride, Youngs Special and Doom Bar which was ok and a reasonable 2.90. The trouble with this sort of place is that you don't know if it's a pub or restaurant or what. Rather than people going to the bar normally some sort of unofficial single queue has started up, mostly for food I think buy it's a pain if you just want a drink. Meals were as to be expected, puddings were nice. Far from the worst pub/restaurant. Service admittedly was slow and the cute waitress actually refused a tip because of it. Would go back but Sunday evening maybe not the best time.

7 Sep 2009 18:07

The Armoury, Stockport

Popped in here on the way back to the statiuon. Robinsons Unicorn, Hatters, and Disst Blonde, sparkled to death as is usual in these parts. Front and back bars, Sky Sports showing. A little inconsistent with door policy as some of our lads got turned away whereas others in colours were let in.

Locals were friendly and OK as a pit stop.

30 Aug 2009 20:54

The Crown Inn, Stockport

Visited before Saints game on 29 Aug. 16 real ales and 3 real ciders. Beers included some from Summer Wine brewery and Oakham. Two main bar areas with a separate room and a decent sized drinking area outside. Excellent pub.

30 Aug 2009 20:49

The Head of Steam, Huddersfield

Decent range of real ale and Sam Smiths bottles plus some foreign beer. No exit to platform when football on. Huddersfield station must be one of the best in the world for pubs.

26 Aug 2009 20:27

The Grove Inn, Huddersfield

Amazing pub, superb choice of real ale and foreign beer at very reasonable prices. Barmaid was very nice too.

26 Aug 2009 20:11

The King's Head, Huddersfield

Not much to add to the thorough reviews below. Came in on a trip to the ground with London Saints. Lots of excellent real ale and a must visit if you are training it.

26 Aug 2009 20:08

The Worcester Park, Worcester Park

Beers were GK IPA, Abbot, Pride and Broadside last night. Large pub, separate areas around the central bar. OK

13 Aug 2009 22:11

The Cock Inn, Headley

Visited on 12 July. GK IPA, Harvey's Best and Wayland's Blonde Belle which was in good condition. Large modern looking pub with a big car park.

9 Aug 2009 16:49

The Atlas, West Brompton

In here after GBBF set up yesterday. Only Pride was on but barman let us have the Twickenham Grandstand that was just about ready. Also had Hoegaarden and Leffe. Attractive pub, food a bit pricey - not bad.

2 Aug 2009 09:00

Goat and Tricycle, Bournemouth

Full range of Wadworths including bottles and also occasionals such as the Vince Minty's Stronginthearm Ale which wasn't badged as Wadworths. Plenty of guests including Nutty Black, White Horse Giant, Lees Scorcher, Tom Woods Summer Days and Hop Back Taiphoon. Excellent bar snacks, baguette and chips for 4.50. Great pub.

12 Jul 2009 00:14

The Sir Percy Florence Shelley, Boscombe

In here after Saints friendly, heard they weren't letting away fans in before the game but ok after. Not really worth the effort as this is a below par Spoons. Pedigree, Abbot, Ruddles Best, Ringwood 49er (off) and Old Thumper. Guest was Old Hooky but bar staff had no clue about it. They were also dropping glasses at regular intervals.

12 Jul 2009 00:10

The Edmund Tylney, Leatherhead

Average spoons with limited beer choice: Ruddles Best, Abbot, Pedigree, TEA and Itchen Valley Winchester Ale. On the small side, beer was ok.

12 Jul 2009 00:03

The Old Fountain, Old Street

Visited on 6 July. Dark Star Old Chestnut and American Pale Ale, Pride, Rev James, City of Cambridge Parkers Porter, Saltaire Bavarian Gold, Ascot On The Rails. Sam Smiths lagers and bottled fruit beers. Traditional pub with a separate outside drinking area. Beer was excellent, certainly one to combine with the Wenlock.

11 Jul 2009 23:54

The Running Mare, Cobham

Seemed like a locals pub despite the restaurant pretentions. Ordinary, Special, Courage Best and Hog's Back TEA which was ok. Beer garden is a patio, what looked like a decent smokers hut is labelled up as restaurant only, strange as no one was in there.

2 Jul 2009 23:44

The Old Bear, Cobham

Hobgoblin, Black Sheep Bitter, Flowers Ipa, Spitfire was off. Hadn't been in here for years and despite the refurb didn't seem to have changed much. Decent beer garden.

2 Jul 2009 23:40

The Mad Hatter Hotel, Southwark

Typical Ale & Pie House, ESB, Pride, Chiswick and Discovery. Large pub broken up into different areas. Worth a pint if passing.

2 Jul 2009 23:23

The Charles Dickens, Southwark

Due to train delays at Waterloo I popped along here. Sambrook's Wandle, Sharp's Own, Brodies Red, Bath Spa, Cottage Mod n Hound, O'Hanlons Firefly, all at 2.95. Traditional looking pub, small beer garden out the back. Line drawings on the wall.

Good pub.

2 Jul 2009 23:21

Duke of Cambridge, Marlow

Wrote my review of this pub when suggesting it for inclusion so no idea where that has gone. A bit of the beaten track but only current GBG pub in the town itself. I hit it when the Summer Equinox beer fest was on and I'm glad I did. Hervey's Best is permanent with rotating guests, I sampled beers fron stillage at the back including Lovibonds Henley Dark which was very good. Chicken coops out the back in the garden. Great pub.

2 Jul 2009 23:16

The Bell Inn, Outwood

Fullers pub, only Pride and ESB plus they had bottles of Vintage. Looked to be set up as a restaurant. Decent beer garden.

A pretty pub for a Sunday afternoon but nothing special for the beer.

21 Jun 2009 20:12

The Jolly Farmer, Horley

Harvey's Best (2.60, very good), Pride and Directors. Sports screens were on, looked a homely pub. Large beer garden, hut for smokers.

Worth a visit.

21 Jun 2009 20:10

The Albany, Great Portland Street

They are starting to have some different beers in here, on Friday there was Wooden Hand Gribben Ale and Brains Old Brewery Bitter.

14 Jun 2009 11:33

The King and Castle, Windsor

Not bad for a Spoons, on three levels which is unusual. Small range of beer, I had an ok pint of Springhead Cromwells's Hat. Bar downstairs only does the standard Spoons beers but there is more room to sit down. Food came reasonably quickly.

14 Jun 2009 11:29

The Carpenters Arms, Windsor

Visited because it was in the Good Beer Guide and was a bit disappointed as it said "beer range varies" but all they had was Doom Bar, 6X, Pride, Thwaites Wainwright and Everards Tiger, none of which are particularly unusual. Not surprising for a Nicholsons. They had a real cider but it had gone when I ordered it. Pub itself is quite pleasant, plenty of room at the back and downstairs. Just a bit worrying if this is the best Windsor has to offer.

14 Jun 2009 11:25

The Dove, Bethnal Green

Visited on Friday night and it was pretty packed with lots of people outside. For 6 pumps the range was pretty standard with the only unusual beer on being Crouch Vale Golden Duck. Others were Abbot, Pedigree, Landlord, Flowers with Brewers Gold not being on. Very good range of foreign beer, no idea of the prices.

Decent and worth a visit.

14 Jun 2009 11:20

The Pembury Tavern, Hackney

Revisited on Friday night and happy to see it was pretty full. Usual wide range of ale although I was disappointed with both the Nero and Marcus Aurelius, not down to the pub though. Before they had Budvar as the only lager, now they have a couple of different foreign lagers.

They even let me put up a Kingston Beer Festival poster!

Still excellent.

14 Jun 2009 11:15

The Griffin, Claygate

Pride, Deuchars and Ordinary. I think they sometimes have another ale but not when we were there. Separate small public bar. Sat outside and it was pleasant enough. Beer was average.

14 Jun 2009 11:09

The Hare and Hounds, Claygate

Even though this is called Auberge which makes you think it will be dreadfully gastro it was ok as a pub. A decent range of ale for this sort of place without being spectacular: Bombardier, Directors, Deuchars and Doom Bar. Beer was ok but not great.

14 Jun 2009 11:06

The Foley Arms, Claygate

Popped in as part of a tour around Claygate. Inside looked like a traditional pub, we sat outside on the veranda. Young's Orinary & Special and Bombardier. Ordinary was pretty decent.

14 Jun 2009 11:02

The Edward Rayne, Raynes Park

A reasonably new Spoons and still quite tidy. Some local beers on offer, Hog's Back HBB, Pilgrim Progress and Welton's Old Cocky together with the usual suspects.

OK as Spoons go.

10 Jun 2009 21:35

The Marquis of Granby, Epsom

One of the chain of Mitchells & Butlers pubs that serves real ale plus a selection of mainstream foreign beer - Paulaner Munchen, Franziskaner, Hoegaarden, Leffe etc. Ales were regulars Pride and Deuchars IPA with guest Brewdog Trashy Blonde. Wow! First time I've ever had Brewdog in a pub and it was fantastic. Grapefruit notes really came through.

Decent pub.

9 Jun 2009 21:30

Blubeckers at Gomshall Mill, Gomshall

Came here with my mum for a meal because the Compasses had stopped serving food. Was expecting keg so happy to see not only Pride but also Dry Hop Gold from the new Dorking Brewery. Food was ok too. Certainly counts as a pub as you can come in for just a drink, reasonably priced at less than 3 and well kept.

7 Jun 2009 20:38

The Holly Bush, Hampstead

Visited on Friday night. Brakspear Bitter, Sussex Best, Broadside, old Hooky and the guest was Pride which was a bit disappointing. Pub is a lot bigger than it first appears with various side rooms. Typical ponced up expensive gastro menu. Nice pub that still has the Benskins signs outside.

7 Jun 2009 17:11

The Famous Green Man, Ewell

Spitfire, Ordinary, Bombardier, Adnams Bitter and Twickenham Spring Ale. Large pub with a central bar. OK

31 May 2009 23:28

The Famous Green Man, Ewell

Spitfire, Ordinary, Bombardier, Adnams Bitter and Twickenham Spring Ale. Large pub with a central bar. OK

31 May 2009 23:27

The Famous Green Man, Ewell

Spitfire, Ordinary, Bombardier, Adnams Bitter and Twickenham Spring Ale. Large pub with a central bar. OK

31 May 2009 23:27

The Star, Ewell

Badger pub, Tanglefoot and Hopping Hare were on. Modernised pub but quite rambling. Table football and pool tables.

31 May 2009 23:15

The Spring Tavern, Ewell

Typical Ember Inns pub. Various handpumps showed about 5 ales but not all were on or drinkable. Had a Wadworths Lily The Pink which was ok.

31 May 2009 23:13

The Wheatsheaf, Ewell

Cosy old style pub. Youngs Ordinary, Bombardier and a rotating guest. Theakstons Best had just gone off to be replaced by Pedigree, Surrey Hills Shere Drop after that.

31 May 2009 23:11

The Black Lion, Surbiton

Youngs Ordinary, Special and Waggledance. Clean and friendly.

31 May 2009 22:05

The Fox And Hounds, Surbiton

Has been cleaned up since reviews below. Courage Best and Bombardier wre on. Seemed generally ok.

31 May 2009 22:01

The Grove Tavern, Surbiton

?GK IPA, Hen and St Edmunds. Large gastro-ish pub, sizeable beer garden and family friendly.

31 May 2009 21:58

The Antelope, Surbiton

Only one ale on today, GK IPA, but the new owners said they would be getting another two from the GK list when new pumps are installed. Will also be removing the pool tables and trying to turn it back into a decent pub.

31 May 2009 21:53

The Surrey Oaks, Newdigate

Popped in on bank holiday Monday. Obviously te drawback to this place is ythat it's miles from anywhere and you pretty much have to drive. Had a couple of halves of the festival beers. Inside they had Harvey's Best, Ranmore, Landlord and an Elgood's beer I think, a bit difficult to see in the middle bar once there are a few people there. Various different rooms including a pool table and restuarant area. Many pump clips show that they must generally have some interesting ale. Definitely worth a visit.

28 May 2009 06:53

The Angel in the Fields, Bond Street

Typical Sam Smiths although as noted below no cask OBB. A little harsh to say there is nothing worth drinking, the draught Extra Stout is fantastic and the bottled Oatmeal Stout is in the top 10 on Ratebeer. The Taddy Porter and Nut Brown Ale are also really excellent beers.

25 May 2009 11:33

The Tyburn, Marble Arch

Was surprised to see a Ventnor Brewery beer as it has gone bust, unfortunately it had just gone before I could try it. Had the JW Lees Hopping Mad instead which was probably left over from the festival. Typical Spoons with a limited beer choice, staff tried to deliver other people's food to us a couple of times. Noticed some complaints from others.

25 May 2009 11:27

The Abinger Hatch, Abinger Common

Visited on a walk yesterday. Ringwood Best and Fortyniner and London Pride. Large beer garden, looked a bit gastro inside. Attractive location, seemed short on staff.

OK

25 May 2009 11:23

The Kings Head, Holmbury St Mary

Visited on a walk yesterday, wasn't intending to but seeing as I was passing I thought a quick half was in order and am glad I did.

Dorking Brewery DB One and Dry Hop Gold, Surrey Hills Shere Drop, Dark Star Hophead, Hammerpot White Wing and Palmers Dorset Gold. Had the Dry Hop Gold which was well kept.

Large beer garden out the back, bare brick walls and wooden tables inside. Seemed a friendly place.

Recommended.

25 May 2009 11:19

The Royal Oak, Holmbury St Mary

Visited on a walk yesterday. Ringwood Best, Youngs Ordinary and Courage Directors. Beer quality of the Best was good. Attractive pub in great location.

25 May 2009 11:14

The Duke of Hamilton, Hampstead

Visited last night for the cider and perry festival. Over 10 real ciders/perries in tubs to choose from down in the cellar and they also had Westons and bottles of Aspalls. Real ales were Fullers Pride, Esb and Summer Ale with Cains Mild also. Bottles of Chimay and Duvel too.

Great pub and the landlord seems really enthusiastic.

23 May 2009 10:09

The Sandrock, Boundstone

Visited as part of a pub walk. 6 ales were on: Landlord, TEA, Bowman's Swift One, Surrey Hills Gilt Complex, Hop Back Summer Lighning and a WJ King's beer.
Gilt Complex was top notch. A little off putting as you go in as it seems set out for food but it loked like there was a separate bar at the side. Had the feel of a locals pub. Quiet at around 5pm on a Sunday evening, deserves to do well.

10 May 2009 20:13

The Tap and Spile, Wolverhampton

Around the corner from the Posada I found the Tap & Spile. Wye Butty Bach, Golden Glow and Ludlow Gold this small pub was packed with fans watching the late game.

2 May 2009 10:40

The Posada, Wolverhampton

Certainly a pub with character. Evan Evans Warrior, Black Sheep Bitter, Deuchars IPA, Bombardier, Brains and real cider. Discount for CAMRA members.

2 May 2009 10:38

Hogshead, Wolverhampton

Bombardier, Enville White and Old Porter and Brains Milkwood Dylan Thomas were on in this busy city centre brash pub. Home fans only, like all the ones I visited after the game, and strictly enforced.

2 May 2009 10:36

The Great Western, Wolverhampton

The Great Western is just out of the back of the station, may be home fans only at times but we were fine. A full range of Holdens beers including Golden Glow, Bitter, Special, Mild and the seasonal Springheel Jack were complemented by Bathams Bitter, Abbot and Thatchers cider. The place is decked out like a station waiting room and serves good cheap food.

2 May 2009 10:34

The White Horse, Epsom

Beer range has been upped again. Surrey Hills Shere Drop, Brains Rev James, St Austell Tribute and Harvey's Best. 2.50 a pint to CAMRA members.

29 Mar 2009 21:36

Waggon and Horses, Brentford

ESB and Pride and keg Chiswick. As Strongers says below there is a handpump for the Chiswick but when ordering (and also others after me) the barman said it was keg. Pint of Pride I had was reasonable. No bottles of any note and a basic pub but on a quiet lunchtime the barman and chef were very friendly and welcoming.

29 Mar 2009 21:30

The Barrowboy and Banker, London Bridge

Typical Fullers Ale & Pie house. Discovery, Pride, Chiswick (ok) and ESB. No seasonals or bottles of any note I could see.

Not bad but there are better Fullers pubs around.

29 Mar 2009 21:26

The Crosse Keys, Bank

Decent Spoons with by far the widest range I have seen. Screens above the bars listed the beers but included some that weren't available. Had a pint of Brentwwod Hope and Glory which was fine.

Service wasn't the quickest but it was a busy Friday night.

29 Mar 2009 21:24

The Saddle Inn, Blackpool

Great pub, in here with Saints before the game at the weekend. 8 real ales: Bass, Bombardier, Thwaites Original, Cairngorm Trade Winds, Copper Dragon Scotts 1816, Daleside Old Legover, St Austell Tinners and Shepherd Neame Canterbury Jack. 2 main rooms off a bar area, decent cheap pub grub and a friendly welcome.

Excellent.

23 Mar 2009 23:24

The Ditton, Long Ditton

Pub with a ponced up feel and strange pricing, 3.23 for Youngs Ordinary. Also had Bombardier and Ruddles Best although one of our group had to return it. Youngs was good. In middle of nowhere and not worth going out of the way for.

5 Mar 2009 00:23

The Dove, Ipswich

Can't add much to what has been said. Simply a brilliant pub.

4 Mar 2009 00:59

The Cap in Hand, Hook

One of the better Wetherspoons. I was in on a Monday night which meant that the JHB, Fagins and Pilgrim Progress were all available soon but the regular Spoons beers of GK IPA & Abbot and Pedigree were joined by King Red River Ale (also a regular), Bishop's Finger, Hog's Back TEA, Ringwood 49er and a truly wonderful Triple fff Comfortably Numb.

Bus goes right by, worth checking out.

23 Feb 2009 23:02

The North Star, Hook

Ember Inns pub serving Youngs Ordinary, GK IPA, Bombardier, Adnams Bitter and Spitfire with a guest currently Morrissey Fox (aka Cropton) Blonde. Typical Ember layout, large and roomy, with various statuettes dotted around.

Not the most atmospheric but good enough for a beer and a chat.

23 Feb 2009 22:57

The Platform Tavern, Southampton

Itchin Valley Godfathers, London Pride and what I assume were two guests Cottage Blower Bentley and Archers Crystal Clear. Public bar area to the left and tables set out for eating on the right. Music orientated pub, looked like they had jam nights there, posters up advertising local gigs.

Good pub.

22 Feb 2009 12:04

The Parrot Inn, Forest Green

Visited at the end of a walk, stone floor so ok with boots. Ordinary, Spitfire and Ringwood Best and Old Thumper and they also had Licher Weizen. Perfectly reasonable pub and people I was with bought stuff from the farm shop which is worth a look.

9 Feb 2009 21:18

Scarlett Arms, Walliswood

Stopped by on Sunday in the middle of a walk, they didn't mind boots. Stone and wooden floors so you can't mess it up too much. First Gold, Tanglefoot and Sussex which were all in good order. Sausage an mash nice but a bit pricey for what it was. Place looked a rabbit warren but didn't explore all the rooms.

Worth a visit but you're not going to find it by accident.

9 Feb 2009 21:09

The Bricklayers Arms, Putney

Welcoming pub, the five Tim Taylor beers plus Sambrook Wandle and Hepworth Sussex. Also had some real cider. Tried the Dark Mild and the Ram Tam but neither did a lot for me. Fairly basic, wooden floorboards. Rugby was showing on a large screen.

9 Feb 2009 21:00

The Magpie and Crown, Brentford

Was convinced I'd reviewed this place but obviously not. Superb pub, always four excellent ales. Didn't note them all down but I had Castle Rock Blackbird which was a tasty porter. Liefmanns Kriek also available along with a Weisse and Paulaner Munchen.

A must visit if you are here for a match.

9 Feb 2009 20:49

The Bridge Inn, Isleworth

Had a quick one hee as I walked back from the Red Lion. Sharp's Eden, Pride and Hen. Fairly basic boozer with the additional of a thai restaurant. Sky Sports, pool table and seemed generally ok.

9 Feb 2009 20:43

The Red Lion, Isleworth

This place had been recommended so I popped in before going to Brentford. 8 ales being Derventio Venus, Jack Frost, Ordinary, TEA, Triple ff Pressed Rat and Warthog, Sharp's Cornish Coaster, Sambrook Wandleand Naylor's On Target. Last one was a wonderful hoppy beer. Also have Erdinger and three ciders were listed on the board. A large pub with separate lounge and public bars and a room with a stage at the back of the lounge.

No hesitation in recommending this one.

9 Feb 2009 20:40

The Standing Order, Southampton

Average Spoons. Was in here Saturday, normal GK beers Plus a range of Ringwood, Bitter & Twisted and a not very good Hidden Old Sarum, just about drinkable.

As said by others, go to the Giddy Bridge.

1 Feb 2009 21:24

The Prince of Wales, Shere

Pub wasn't shut this afternoon although there was a sign saying no food was on. Youngs Ordinary and an indifferent Shere Drop were available. Three separate areas: main bar, then a room with a pool table and finally the restaurant area. Stone floor in the main bar with a faded carpet. A few locals in when I was there at about 4pm.

25 Jan 2009 21:03

The Rising Sun, Epsom

Stopped in for a pint of reasonable Tribute about 3pm yesterday (Sat). Other beers were Youngs Ordinary, Special and Winter Warmer. Also had Erdinger, Leffe and Pilsner Urquell. Large area as you go in, all bare wood and Youngs corporate yellow. Restaurant to the back with a real fire. I never visited in the Dave Roberts days when I understand it was very good but in my limited experience it's not as bad as some are making out.

25 Jan 2009 12:18

Ye Olde Kings Head, Epsom

Popped in about 2.30 yesterday (Sat). Beers on were Ordinary, Pride and Black Sheep Bitter. Pride was quite accepabe.

Attractive low ceilinged pub. All the tables I saw had cutlery on them, the ones in the area to the left were properly laid out. Probably more comfotable to go around to the right or sit at the bar if you are just having a drink. Real fire, racing photos and pictures on the walls. Generally speaking there was an older clientele but that might be down to the time of day. Certainly one of Epsom's better pubs.

25 Jan 2009 12:11

The Knights Templar, Chancery Lane

Impressive Wetherspoons, certainly one of the better ones. I had a half of York Constantine which was ok. Had tried most of the other beers but there was definitely some Weltons on.

24 Jan 2009 12:44

The George, Temple

Until I read my review below I hadn't realised I had already visited this pub! Beer was mostly from Adnams: Broadside, Fireside and East Green Carbon Neutral (flavour neutral too!). Pride was off.

24 Jan 2009 12:41

The Devereux, Temple

Bar in the middle with the drinking area in a horseshoe around it. Part of the seating area is divided by screens. Beer on Thursday night was Springhead Polar Beer, GK IPA and Isle of Purbeck Thermal Cheer. Pride was off. Thermal Cheer was a good enough pint.

OK pub.

24 Jan 2009 12:36

The Edgar Wallace, Temple

Visited as part of a branch CAMRA tour on Thursday. Winter Ale beer festival was on with at least 7 available. I tried the Grafton Dark Lady and the Elgoods Wisbech Winter Ale which were excellent. There were some light beers, had a sip of a friend's B & T Bedfordshire Clanger which was wonderfully hoppy. Festival on until the beer runs out.

24 Jan 2009 12:30

The Brazen Head, Lisson Grove

No real ale despite two handpumps, both with clips turned around.

Avoid.

22 Jan 2009 00:32

The Greyhound, Weston Green

Abbot, Harveys Sussex Best, Sharp's Cornish Coaster, Pride and Youngs Ordinary which are all regular beers. Had the Cornish Coaster and it was well served.

Games room to the left as you enter (darts & pool) and the pub extends back on the right to the restaurant area.

Gave the impression of a friendly locals pub.

18 Jan 2009 17:05

The Ewe, Weston Green

Sign in the window saying it was now closed for trading when I went past on Tuesday.

18 Jan 2009 16:50

Marneys Village Inn, Weston Green

Bombardier, Courage Best and London Pride were on last Tuesday. Small pub with a very small serving area. Friendly enough and I expect it is packed in the summer in the beer garden.

18 Jan 2009 16:48

The Sportsman 'Time Well Spent', Mogador

Stopped in here for a quick half while walking. Youngs Ordinary, Sharp's Doom Bar and Pilgrim's Progress. The Progress was very good. Stone floor in the main bar so no need to worry about muddy boots although there were some people putting carrier bags over them. Staff were attentive and helpful.

Certainly out of the way but worth a visit and the countryside the other side of the M25 is lovely.

18 Jan 2009 16:45

The Old Shades, Whitehall

Fairly typical Nicholsons. Pride, Landlord, Springhead Polar Beer, Adnams Bitter. They had Thwaites Nutty Black when we went in but it was off by the time we were going to try it. Long narrow pub, restaurant area at the back. Reasonable pub for central London but watch the short pints.

18 Jan 2009 11:07

The Bricklayers Arms, Kingston Upon Thames

Greene King beers only, IPA and Hardys and an end of the barrel Hansons Rocking Rudolf. One other that wasn't on. One main bar that goes further back on the left. Sky Sports was showing the FA Cup replay.

OK pub but not worth going out of your way for.

18 Jan 2009 11:02

The Howard, Sheffield

Only Banks's Original which was pretty dreadful, near the end of the barrel. Only in here because we had a half hour wait at the station. A last resort.

12 Jan 2009 21:23

The Gatehouse, Barnsley

I understand this is changing owners next week so the beer was a bit run down from when I was last in here. Theakstons XB, Acorn Barnsley Bitter and Bradfield Farmers Blonde. Beer was ok, pub nice enough being a large one bar establishment. Will have to see what the new owners do.

12 Jan 2009 21:17

Bishop Out Of Residence, Kingston Upon Thames

In here tonight for a CAMRA meeting, first time in about twenty years when Ordinary was a good pint. Pleasantly surprised, beers were Ord, Special, Winter Warmer, Bomb and Directors. Had the first three which were all in good condition. Not bad for a Youngs pub.

7 Jan 2009 00:29

The Old Fire House, Exeter

Eventually got in here on Sat after finding it shut, to be fair I should have checked the Good Beer Guide. Beers on stillage were Betty Stogs, Sharps Own, Cornish Knocker and a very delicious Titanic Stout. Very dark inside, lots of nooks and crannies.

Make the effort to find this one.

5 Jan 2009 21:40

The Well House, Exeter

In here on Saturday, beers included Otter Well House Ale (maybe a rebadged Otter Ale), Teignworthy Old Moggy, O' Hanlons Port Stout and Goodwill and Branscombe Vale Branoc. Also real cider and Skinners lager. Lovely views of the cathedral out of the big glass windows.

Worth finding.

5 Jan 2009 21:36

Wells Tavern, Exeter

Was hoping to visit a new ground for Exeter v Vale but the game was frozen off. Ended up in here where they had Abbot, Tribute, Doom Bar, Otter Bitter and the guest ale Arundel Sussex Gold. Basic boozer and friendly enough despite the barmaid being a Portsmouth supporter.

Definitely worth a visit if you are going to a game.

5 Jan 2009 21:27

The Imperial, Exeter

Wandered up the hill from the Great Western and glad I did. Impressive building, must be the best looking Spoons in the country. Beers included Banks & Taylor Golden Fox, ~O'Hanlons Port Stout, Cotleigh Buzzard, Titanic White Star, Cottage IK Brunel and Ringwood Fortyniner along with the run of the mill Deuchars, Abbot and Pedigree. Beers I tried were excellent. According to some locals Tim Martin drinks in here and I can understand why.

5 Jan 2009 21:11

The Great Western Hotel, Exeter

Start of an Exeter crawl on Saturday. Ales included Darmoor Jail Ale, RCH IPA, Pitchfork and Steam Sale, Exeter Avocet, Poachers Billy Boy and Branscombe Branoc. Jail Ale and Avocet were excellent. Food was good value and well cooked.

Well worth a visit.

5 Jan 2009 21:05

The Wych Elm, Kingston Upon Thames

One bar Fuller's pub in the back streets of North Kingson. Chiswick, Pride, ESB and Jack Frost were on last night. Various Fuller's bottles too.

30 Dec 2008 16:31

The New Inn, Brentford

No real ale on today although from pump clips it looks like they normaly have something from Courage Best, Hen, Ruddles etc. They did have bottles of Summer Lightning which was good. Friendly enough, fairly traditional boozer, low ceilings, beer garden.

26 Dec 2008 17:08

Princess Royal, Brentford

Only Pride on handpump (although it was pretty good) Keg Chiswick and bottles of ESB, Discovery and Honeydew. Separate doors for Public and Lounge bars but it is all one big room. Seemed friendly enough and not bad for a pre game pub.

26 Dec 2008 17:05

The Salt House, Epsom

This place is an ASK pizza place. May as well be listed as closed.

21 Dec 2008 15:40

The Bridge Bier Huis, Burnley

Very good one bar pub. In here before and after the Saints game yesterday, a good mix of home and away supporters.

Hydes Original, Cottage Christmas Cracker, 1648 Winter Warmer, Moorhouse's No-Nay-Never, Boggart Ruby Tuesday and when we went back in they had Fallons Lancastrian Gold. Also Westons Perry and a list of 36 foreign bottled beers plus 4 on draught which yesterday included De Koninck Winter Beer.

The food l0oked good and it was cheap.

Recommended.

14 Dec 2008 13:29

The Ministry of Ale, Burnley

Excellent no frills locals style pub close to Manchester Road station. Visited before and after the Saints game yesterday. Moonstone beers were White Sapphire and Trafalgar Stout, also had Rudgate Christmas Cracker and Sharps Atlantic IPA. The IPA was replaced by Oakham JHB. A list of 20 or so bottled foriegn beers. Nothing very exciting but they did have Rodenbach Grand Cru. Beer wasn't the best tasting, sparkled to death as the northerners do.

14 Dec 2008 13:14

The Lord Napier, Thornton Heath

In here after Saints v Palace on Monday night. Ordinary and Special only which were ok. Some very dodgy karaoke going on, version of Nineteenth Nervous Breakdown almost broke me down. Not worth going out of your way for unless the jazz is any good.

10 Dec 2008 23:10

Flora Sandes, Thornton Heath

Only good thing about this place is it's location right outside the station. Below average Spoons, in last night before the Saints at Palace and all they had apart from Pedigree and Abbot was a tasteless O'Hanlons Firefly and Weltons Old Harry, which was off when I asked for a pint. Plastic glasses because of the football.

Pretty dismal.

10 Dec 2008 00:17

The Cutty Sark Tavern, Greenwich

Visited last night after the Saints game at Charlton. We had the top area reserved as the manager and some of the players came back to meet the London Saints. Pride, Tribute, Broadside and Hancocks HB. Black Sheep was off. Expensive at 3.20 per pint. Atmospheric with wooden beams etc and a great view over the Thames.

30 Nov 2008 15:43

The Cricketers, Epsom

Good beer choice; Roosters YPA, Dartmoor Best, Pride & GK IPA. Ember Inns so an insipid feel to the place. Bar on one level as you enter with other areas both up and downstairs.

28 Nov 2008 00:02

The Jolly Coopers, Epsom

Came in tonight to check out the real ale. Pride and Shere Drop as stated below, the Shere Drop was to die for. Such a welcoming pub, could easily become a regular.

27 Nov 2008 23:58

The King Alfred, Southampton

In here before the Plymouth game on Tuesday. No real ale so asked for a pint of the Mr Whiteheads Boxing Dog cider which appeared to be on handpump. Barmaid served me a pint of cleaning fluid not realising that the cider was actually out of a tub.

No hesitation in rating this the worst pub I have ever been in.

27 Nov 2008 23:56

The Wellington, Strand

In last night. Batemans XXXB, Pride, Pedigree, Landlord and Cairngorm Autumn Nuts which was good. Basically your bog standard Nicholsons.

27 Nov 2008 23:53

Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, Fleet Street

Difficult to know how to rate this place. Dropped in last night night to hand over some London Drinkers. Barman denied all knowledge of ever having them. Mind you he reckoned all Sam Smiths have OBB on handpump. Had been here before for functions and gone straight upstars. Had a bit of a poke around last night and hadn't realised how big it was. Must be at least 4 separate bars. It's a must visit but maybe once only.

27 Nov 2008 23:49

De Hems, Soho

Dutch/Belgian beers you would expect such as Stella, Oranjeboom, Amstel, Leffe, Fruli but also a couple of surprises like the Maredsous and Grolsch Weiss. Bottles included the trappists Chimay, Westmalle, Orval and Rochefort (only saw the 8) but no La Trappe??!! Other Belgians were Kwak, Delirium Tremens, Tripel Karmliet and Rodenbach Grand Cru which is nice to see, more besides those. Disappointed that there wasn't a beer list in the menu. Expensive for draught Grolsch Weiss at 4 but that's what I was expecting. No idea what the bottles cost. Seems like a good pub for a bit of a change but you'd better not be affected by the credit crunch! No Nicholsons T shirts when I asked.

24 Nov 2008 22:11

The Robert Peel, Kingston Upon Thames

Would be a real shame, they were putting on some excellent prog gigs.

24 Nov 2008 22:01

Nags Head, Reading

I noted the bers on Saturday before the Saints game so here they are: B & T Edwin Taylor Extra Stout, Ballards Wassail, Chalk Stream Ramsbury, Three Castles King Alfred's Gold, Wolf Straw Dog, Triple fff Moondance, White Horse Village Idiot, Wadworths Horizon, Rugby Webb Ellis, Milestone Plot & Treason, West Berks Magg's Mild. Basically a great range of styles and strengths with something for everyone. Even better they have blackboards over each pump giving the current and next beer on. The following beer is a similar style and strength. Basic food, only had a breakfast up to 1pm then it was pie, very good even so. Barman recommened a taste of the Webb Ellis as it was a little odd.

Excellent pub.

23 Nov 2008 16:07

The Alehouse, Reading

First time in here after the Saints game on Saturday. West Berkshire beers included Staked Pleached and Ethered, Magg's Mild, Full Circle and Dr Hexters Healer. Also Hop Back Autumn Glow, Strongs Best, Arkells JRA, Rebellion Red and White Horse Ding Dong.

Quirky pub with cubby holes out the back and what feels like an outside toilet. On the expensive side but a must visit.

23 Nov 2008 15:59

Trafalgar Freehouse, South Wimbledon

WJ King Hopping Mad, Whitstable East India Pale Ale, Blackawton Original, Moorhouses Black Cat, Itchen Valley Fagins, Fuglestou Fulstow Common were available on Friday. All those I tried were excellent and the Whitstable was out of this world. Small pub, to the left it has the feel of a traditional pub - turn right and you could be in a working men's club.

Worth a diversion to get to.

23 Nov 2008 15:54

The Sultan, South Wimbledon

Clean and tidy Hop Back pub. GFB, Summer Lightning and Entire Stout, "guest" on Friday was their autumn beer Red Ember. Other Hop Back beers in bottles. Fairly quiet on Friday although it is out of the way. Pretty cheap.

Good.

23 Nov 2008 15:47

The Cricketers, Cobham

Came in tonight for a meal. Sea bass was excellent and well presented. GK IPA & Hen, Pride and Shere Drop which was very good.

Pub is underrated as foodie pubs tend to be because someone will always end up with a bad meal. Pleasant place to pass an hour or two.

17 Nov 2008 23:29

The Victoria, Bayswater

Was in last Wennesday for their beer festival. Apart from Pride they had Oakham White Dwarf, White Horse Village Idiot, Orkney Dark Island and Holden's Golden Glow. All good beers and well kept. Lovely interior and a great place to sit at the bar. Various bottled Fullers including Vintage Ale.

17 Nov 2008 00:08

The Wellington Arms, Southampton

In here yesterday, beers were the first five as listed by Trainman below together with Broadside, Oakleaf Nuptu'ale and Hole Hearted, Thwaites Flying Shuttle and Flowerpots Goodens Gold.

Friendly pub, good beer, excellent.

9 Nov 2008 12:32

The Jolly Coopers, Epsom

Actually reopened on 31 October.

Visited tonight and they are still getting things together. No real ale but they are planning on having Pride and Surrey Hills Shere Drop soon. Hopefully will be rotating the beers.

Has certainly got potential, feels like a real pub and the people running it were really friendly and enthusiastic.

No rating from me until they get some real ale in.

4 Nov 2008 21:28

Merchants, Lancaster

Attractive pub not far from the station. As you go in the bar is on the right with drinking areas to the left in arched cellars. Deuchars IPA, Theakston Best, Bombardier and Bitter & Twisted. Only time for a swift half of the latter as we were heading down to Preston but it was in good nick.

2 Nov 2008 21:40

The Old Vic, Preston

Back in here for a swift celebratory drink after Saints came from 2 - 0 down to beat Preston. Beer range was more interesting than my last visit below, at least three Moorhouse beers and also Three Bs Doff Cocker.

2 Nov 2008 15:27

The Dog and Partridge, Preston

Actually called the Olde Dog and Partridge according to the sign. Bass, Tetleys Dark Mild and Rhymney Bevan's Bitter were on. Landlord was off. Food had finished before 2pm and the pub closed at 2.30 on Sat because of a lack of staff. A basic boozer and and a bit of a let down from the GBG description.

2 Nov 2008 15:24

The Old Black Bull, Preston

Visited lunchtime on Saturday before the Saints game. Reasonably full but not packed. Harts Ice Maiden, Hobgoblin, Allgates Young Pretender and Caskper, Spitfire and Old Bear All Hallows. The All Hallows was a nice beer.

Large pub, Sky Sports. Food was cheap but not being served.

Staff were helpful and no complaints about beer quality.

2 Nov 2008 15:19

The Yorkshire House, Lancaster

Black Sheep Riggwelter, Coniston Bluebird, Everards Tiger and Moorhouse Premier. This was the last of four pubs so memory is a little hazy but seemed young and lively. We were too late for the bands upstairs but the jukebox pumped out some decent stuff. Worth a visit.

2 Nov 2008 15:10

The Three Mariners, Lancaster

Everards Tiger and Origibal, Black Sheep Bitter, Jennings Bitter, Bowland Sorceress and Theakstons Best. Some foreign bottled beer; Erdinger, Shneider Weisse, Bacchus, Kasteel and Bruges Zot. The Bowland was my best beer of the weekend. Low beamed tradional looking pub.

Definely one to include on crawl.

2 Nov 2008 14:59

The Sun Hotel and Bar, Lancaster

In on Friday as part of a Lancaster crawl. Absolutely brilliant pub, 4 Lancaster Brewery beers - Amber, Blonde, Red and Black and also Moles Best and Mole Catcher plus Thwaites Liberation and Wainwright. Nice to see no Guinness but Marstons Oyster Stout instead, lots of foreign beers on draught including Konig Ludwig Weissbier. What loked like a decent selection of foreign bottled beers including all the Chimays, Delerium Tremens, Maredsous, Duvel, Goose Island and Coopers Sparkling. They even give you a choice of straight or jug for your beer. Main bar as you enter has bare walls, a larger drinking area to the right which goes back further with more rooms joining on.

Can't complain about the prices, maybe a bit more expensive than the other pubs in Lancaster but still only around 18.50 for 7 pints.

Essential visit

2 Nov 2008 11:35

The John O'Gaunt, Lancaster

On Friday night they had Hobgoblin, Black Sheep Bitter, Tetley's, Deuchars, Jennings Cumberland and Landlord. Old looking pub, bar on the right as you go in and goes back further. Pleasant enough place for a drink.

2 Nov 2008 11:21

The No Sign Wine Bar, Swansea

Tomos Watkin Cwrw Haf and OTT and guest beer Marstons Wicked Witch. Pub is long and narrow, goes back for miles. Watch out for the uneven floor if you've had too much to drink!

26 Oct 2008 13:04

The Queens Hotel, Swansea

In here before the Saints game testerday. 3 regulars, Buckley 's Best, Theakstons Best and Old Pec and one guest. Guest started as Evan Evans Full Cry and changed to Mauldons Mid-Autumn Gold. Friendly pub, excellent cheap food. I think the bear has seen better days!

26 Oct 2008 13:02

The Prince of Wales, Esher

Large pub, family friendly with all that entails. Big decking area outside. Pride, Hen and Bombardier and also Leffe Blonde and Staropramen. Can't complain about the service I received.

19 Oct 2008 21:48

The Bear and Staff, Leicester Square

On Saturday they had Landlord, Pride, Wadworth Henry's IPA, Coach House Blueberry, Beartown Bear Ass and Everards Wacko Jack-O. Had the latter which wasn't great but more down to the beer than the pub I think. Not too busy for 7pm on a Saturday, didn'y take long to get served. Main bar on ground level with a bar/restaurant upstairs.

19 Oct 2008 16:05

The Rake, London Bridge

I love this place. On Thursday they had Harviestoun Belgian White on draught plus Sierra Nevada Porter, fantastic stuff.

19 Oct 2008 16:00

The Mudlark, London Bridge

Landlord, Pride, Doom Bar and the autumn ale was Everards Equinox. Latter tasted a bit strange, almost like cider. I had decided to give up on it and left it on a shelf while I went to the gents but was surprised that it had been collected. Fits in with the other comments on here.

19 Oct 2008 15:56

The Old Thameside Inn, London Bridge

Pride, Deuchards, Landlord and from the autumn range was Okells Autumn Dawn. Great location by the river, didn't take me too long to get served at about 8pm on a Thursday.

19 Oct 2008 15:51

Williamson's Tavern, Mansion House

Came in here from the Olde Watling and as stated below don't follow the Nicholsons map or you will never find it! Landlord, Pride, Spitfire and two from the autumn ales range - Batemans Falling Leaves and Oakham Inferno. Two separate bars downstairs, more room in the back one.

19 Oct 2008 15:47

Ye Olde Watling, Mansion House

Fairly typical Nicholsons. Downstairs bar with an upstairs restaurant/bar. Pride, Landlord, Black Sheep Bitter, Bombardier, Harveys Sussex Best and Morrissey Fox Blonde. The latter was part of the autumn ales range and was very good.

19 Oct 2008 15:42

The Cambridge, Soho

In here tonight for a quick one after leaving the Astoria. Pride, Landlord, Batemans XXXB, Hen and Coach House Blueberry Classic Bitter. Bottles included Schneider Weisse, Erdinger Dunkel and Fruli. Medium sized room downstairs and a dining area and bar upstairs.

4 Oct 2008 00:15

The New Prince, Surbiton

Visited on Wednesday night. Pride, HSB and Butser, had the latter two and they were in excellent condition. No bottles to speak of. One large room, bar to the right. Pictures of previous Princes of Wales and local scenes on the walls.

OK

4 Oct 2008 00:11

Nelson, Camden

Clean pine bar upstairs with a seating area downstairs and what looked like a smoking area too. No real ale or decent bottles, I had Staropramen rather than the Guinness. Restaurant tables at the rear with sofas and high tables in the front and middle respectively.

28 Sep 2008 17:38

O'Neills, Stansted Airport

In the terminal at Stansted this is the only option, Wetherspoons is airside. O' Neills so no cask ale so had to resort to Guinness. Food came promptly (although burger was pretty ordinary) and they had a member of staff going around taking orders so you didn't have to leave luggage on your seat while you went to the bar. Busy as you would expect.

28 Sep 2008 17:27

Ancient Unicorn, Barnard Castle

Stayed here for two nights due to attending a wedding. Theakstons Black Bull, Richmond Station Ale and Everards Equinox which all seemed to be in reasonable condition. One bar split into two with a pool tabe one side and tables the other. Set out like a restaurant but plenty of room to sit at the bar. Food was excellent, unbelievable choice. You're not likely to find this place by accident unless you are walking the Pennine Way but worth staying here if you get the chance.

28 Sep 2008 17:19

The White Horse, Epsom

Further to my review below I have been informed by the landlord that the reason for not starting the promotion was the lack of a delivery. I understand that it has either started or will do shortly.

As for my comment about the barmaid all I am saying is that a volume control might come in handy! She is indeed lovely and I have absolutely no complaints about service.

24 Sep 2008 21:24

The White Horse, Epsom

Seriously starting to wonder about this place. Headed down tonight as according to a press release they are selling real ale at 2 a pint from now until the end of October. Not tonight they weren't. To be fair not an unreasonable 2.75 for Everards Equinox and Butcombe Gold. For a pub with 6 handpumps it was all they seemed to have on, the Copper Dragon Scotts 1816 was halfway turned so not entirely clear. Add to this the most insufferable barmaid you can find and somewhere that seemed a cert for the next Good Beer Guide is going to start losing votes. Down a mark from me.

22 Sep 2008 23:37

Charlie's Bar, Copenhagen

Came in here during the European Beer Festival. Sat at the bar and had the Tribute HSD and draught Westmalle Dubbel.

Worth a visit and is reasonably central.

21 Sep 2008 12:34

BrewPub Kbenhavn, Copenhagen

Was in Cpenhagen for the European Beer Festival. Found this place via a guide produced by the Danish Beer Enthusiasts.

Large courtyard with tables, the bar is downstairs with another restaurant area.

Lots of their own beers, I had the IPA which was very good. Also Belgian bottles and I saw some Nogne O too.

Worth checking out although it's as ludicrously expensive as you would expect.

21 Sep 2008 12:27

Encore, Southampton

Wetherspoons esque pub next to the Mayflower, or Gaumont as I always think of it. Always worried by pubs with large Sky Sports banners outside but this isn't too bad. Explorer, Pride and 6X were on with Spitfire and Hen turned around. Explorer wasn't brilliant.

Some sort of hen party was in but I had to look twice to work out whether they were real women or a bunch of trannies.

Nearest pub to the station now so only worth it for a quick stop on the way back.

21 Sep 2008 12:21

The Guide Dog, Bevois Valley

Now replaced the keg Honeydew with another cask beer. Also stock bottles of Maredsous.

Fullers ESB & Discovery, 1648 Bee-Head & Triple Champion, Altons Pride, Bowmans Swift One and Irving Type 42.

As good as ever.

21 Sep 2008 12:15

The Coal Hole, Strand

Fairly typical Nicholsons. Ground floor bar had Pride, Harveys Best, Landlord, Thwaites Wainwright and Theakston Grouse Beater. Seating area upstairs and a downstairs bar, confusing as it is signposted as the Ladies. Only Landlord and Pride on downstairs.

19 Sep 2008 23:08

Windmill, Stansted Airport

Pedigree, Abbot, Bombardier and a not great Deuchars. Busy as expected. Not brilliant but the best in the location.

19 Sep 2008 23:05

The Griffin, Camden

Same ownership as Browns in Shoreditch and the same idea. Keg beer pub but you don't go for the beer you go to put a pound in the pint jug and watch young ladies remove their clothes in an artistic fashion.

Good fun.

12 Sep 2008 00:02

Browns, Shoreditch

4/10 as a pub but 9/10 as a place for watching young ladies take their clothes off. Keg beers only. Not a rip off and a fun place to spend an hour before heading to Brick Lane.

11 Sep 2008 23:59

The Queens Head, Kingston Upon Thames

Ordinary and Bombardier plus Davenports Cloud 9. Central bar with plenty of space around it. Also a roomed billed as the snug. Not many in last night so difficult to judge the atmosphere. Ok.

11 Sep 2008 23:54

The Boaters Inn, Kingston Upon Thames

Spacious modernised bar. Twickenham Original and Summer Gold, Adnams Regatta, Black Sheep Bitter and Doom Bar.

Good

11 Sep 2008 23:50

Castle, Farringdon

Normally packed if I come past on a Friday evening. Was here today around lunchtime with 20 minutes to kill so popped in. One of the chain of Mitchell & Butler pubs, foreign beer such as Sierra Nevada, Leffe, Fruli, Apple Bocq, Star etc. Real ales were Pride and GK IPA. Very dark inside, high ceilings. Sign for an upstairs bar.

OK but nothing special.

7 Sep 2008 23:06

The O'Briens, Brentford

A swift couple in here today before the Bees game. Pride, Weltons Export Stout, Twickenham Grandstand and Marstons Pedigree also had keg Honeydew. Lots of bottles including Chimay Blue & Tripel, Duvel, Vedett, Erdinger Weisse & Dunkel and Fullers 1845 and Golden Pride. Small pub, bar in the right hand corner. Clean and tidy, sport showing on small TV. Seemed like a locals pub but perfectly welcoming.

Worth a visit.

6 Sep 2008 20:01

The Wellington, Waterloo

Popped in tonight for a quick one while waiting for a train. Pedigree, Burton Bitter and Jennings Fish King were on, one handpump turned around. Had the Fish King which was well served. Also Hoegaarden and Star and bottles of Old Empire, Sneck Lifter, Cumberland Ale, Pedigree and Leffe. Large pub showing sport, broken down into three areas. Lots of excited chatter, people either going home or meeting up for the evening. Not worth spending the night here but ok for one.

4 Sep 2008 22:02

The Prince of Wales, Wimbledon

Popped in here for a quick half as had 20 minutes waiting for a train. Bad mistake, Old Pec was only just above being taken back. In fact I should have taken it back, left half of it. Other beers were GK IPA, Hen, Spit and Broadside.

3 Sep 2008 01:27

The Betsey Trotwood, Clerkenwell

In here last Wednesday with a friend doing a recce for a function. Shepherd Neame, the Spitfire, Bishop's Finger and Whitstable Bay were on draught, Kent's Best was turned around. Didn't see what bottles they had. Street corner pub, one room bar although with function rooms upstairs and downstairs. It filled up with people waiting for the music. Wouldn't go out of my way for it but there's got to be a lot worse places to see bands.

31 Aug 2008 22:45

Plough at Blackbrook, Blackbrook

Tanglefoot, First Gold and Hall & Woodhouse Sussex, latter was good quality. Pub is in the middle of nowhere, visited at the end of a walk. From the main door there is a larger room to the left and to the right there is a small bar with restaurant tables set out further down some steps. Large beer garden out back.

Was pretty much empty when I got there just before 6pm, a few more came in later. Sounded like it had been busy at lunchtime.

Ok but you have to drive to it.

25 Aug 2008 19:52

Station Inn, Derby

Had to knock to get in on a Saturday morning. Only ale on was the Bass from the jug. Black Sheep Bitter, Deuchars IPA and Caledonian XPA all turned around, even when we came in after the game.

24 Aug 2008 20:23

The Brunswick Inn, Derby

Brewpub with 6 house beers and eight guests including Shardlow, Burton Bridge, Clarks, Elgoods and Everards (who own the pub). Various rooms and a beer garden out the back. Busy as expected on a match day but service didn't take long.

Brunswick Railway Porter and Black Sabbath were very tasty.

Fantastic.

24 Aug 2008 20:18

The George, Temple

Sharps Atlantic IPA, Pride, Adnams Regatta, Erdinger and Bitburger. Bottles of Leffe too. Long narrow wood panelled pub. Cricket was on TVs.

24 Aug 2008 20:12

The Edgar Wallace, Temple

In here on 22 August. Nethergate Edgars Pale Ale (same as Nethergate IPA according to Ratebeer), Oakham White Dwarf, Bushy's Shuttleworth Snap, Williams Brothers Roisin and Grindleton Ribble Rouser, a couple of pumps not used. Main bar downstairs, looked like there was an upstairs room. Worth a visit.

24 Aug 2008 20:10

The Lord Palmerston, Dartmouth Park

Adnams Broadside and Bitter together with Sharps Doom Bar. Budvar, Bitburger and Edelweiss also on draught. On Thursday when I visited they had a mini cider festivl, Westons Bounds Brand was very nice and they also had Aspalls ciders and Cidre Breton. A gastro style menu with associated prices but no cutlery on tables so you aren't wondering about where you are meant to sit down. Conservatory and beer garden out the back. Nice girls behind the bar.

Good.

24 Aug 2008 20:04

The Dartmouth Arms, Dartmouth Park

Came in on Thurs 21 Aug. Deuchars IPA, Pride and Adnams Bitter. A large selection of bottled ciders and perries, they could really do with a list. Also on draught were Staropramen, Leffe and Hoegaarden and they had bottles of Titanic Stout, maybe others. Two roms either side of a central bar, a bit spit and sawdust and has the feel of a community pub.

24 Aug 2008 19:58

The Princess Louise, Holborn

I think you love or hate Sam Smiths and I love. And they have cask OBB although I went for the bottled Nut Brown Ale which was wonderful. Must visit for the decor although the much vaunted toilets do pong!

20 Aug 2008 00:35

The Shooting Star, Liverpool Street

Fullers - cask Pride, Chiswick, ESB & Discovery with Porter, Golden Pride and 1845 in bottles. Plenty of room inside, Chiswick tasted just about like it should. Better than Dirty Dicks.

20 Aug 2008 00:32

The Magpie, Bishopsgate

Nicholsons, Landlord, Pride, GK IPA and Batemans Thirsty Work. Batemans and Landlord were good. Central bar, reasonably large drinking area and can overspill into the street.

20 Aug 2008 00:29

The Hamilton Hall, Liverpool Street

FFS it's a Wetherspoons it does what it says on the tin. Itchen Valley Godfathers was the only non standard beer in here tonight, ok but I had the last but one from the barrel.

20 Aug 2008 00:26

Woodies, New Malden

I also was at the beer festival and can only comment on the beer and the pub. Has the feel of a sports club bar inside, although I was mostly outside enjoying the festival beers. Inside the regulars are Pride, ESB, Broadside and Ordinary with three rotating guests, often from local breweries. For the festival they had 46 beers on stillage in a tent in front of the pub, all of which were reasonably local.

Definitely worth a visit.

17 Aug 2008 17:20

The Bulls Head, Davenham

This is just a comment with no rating but can only support Chope in thinking that if what he says is true this pub is an absolute disgrace. Only found the review by Googling Davenports Cloud 9 which isn't on Ratebeer, new I suppose. Had it in the White Horse, Epsom and it was fine.

16 Aug 2008 00:19

The Running Horse, Leatherhead

In here for a CAMRA branch meeting tonight. GK IPA, Pride, Landlord, Broadside, Batemans XXXB and Ordinary. Landlord and Adnams were nice, Batemans a little sharp. Disappointing that for six handpumps there was nothing special on offer. Good enough pub, we were at the back of the lounge bar. Public bar the other side with a pool table and fruit machines etc.

14 Aug 2008 00:10

The Bricklayers Arms, Fitzrovia

Really difficult to review Sam Smiths pubs with no cask OBB. The pubs they own are generally wonderful like this one with a small front room, a small room at the back with a dartboard and a dimly lit lounge bar upstairs. The contrast in price between the keg beers at less than 2 and the bottles at around 3.50 is striking too. Had the Pale Ale which was very nice.

Have to say I am pro Sam Smiths although friends of mine really don't like them but surely some cask OBB isn't too much to ask?

12 Aug 2008 23:15

The Marquis of Granby, Fitzrovia

A Nicholsons but not a good one. Pride, Deuchars and Doom Bar. Reverend James was turned around. Bottles of Leffe. Large bar extends into the one room pub not leaving much room. Drinking area outside.

Maybe best to wander down to the Black Horse.

12 Aug 2008 23:09

The George And Dragon, Fitzrovia

A pub near to work that I visit very occasionally. GK IPA, Ruddles County and one clip turned around. Wood panelled, plenty of seating insde and out although only a couple of high chairs at the bar.

12 Aug 2008 23:06

The Tower Tavern, Fitzrovia

A pub near work that I am not sure I had ever visited. Only GK IPA and Morland Original. Also had the keg version of Hen but nothing special on tap or in bottles. One room pub, TV screens showing sport. Food seemed cheap. Have rounded this up to a 6 because of the barmaid, excellent service.

12 Aug 2008 23:02

The Mochyn Du, Cardiff

Came in here out of the rain on Saturday before Saints' visit to Ninian Park. This pub had been described as "fiercely Welsh" so I was expecting some sort of dodgy back street boozer where conversation would stop as you walked in. This actually has the feel of a Harvester, perfectly friendly. Otley O1, Brains bitter and two Vale of Glamorgan beers that we were told are breewed for the pub, Cwrw Haf and Y Mochyn Du. Also had Leffe and Hoegaarden on draught.

Close to the Cayo so worth a visit if you are in the area.

10 Aug 2008 20:46

The Oxo Tower Bar, Southbank

This is the sort of place that is either 0 or 10 depending on whether you are a beer drinker or a bird on a hen do.

Was dragged in here for a last drink on Saturday night. Got a seat at the bar ok but waited ages to get served. Standard cocktails were around 9.00 up to around 12.00 for champagne ones. They had a list of beers which certainly included Schneider Weisse but it was over 5 a throw.

Not sure we could see the river but there were lots of lights. Unlikely to be back unless I am going out with a girl coming here is likely to lead to a shag.

3 Aug 2008 12:51

The Lord Moon Of The Mall, Whitehall

In here yesterday, Saturday lunchtime, and service was quick enough.

A decent selection of real ale: Phoenix Double Gold, White Horse Flibbertigibbet, Butcombe Gold, Cotleigh Blue Jay, Titanic Red Ensign, Batemans Summer Swallow, Old Hooky, Abbot & Pedigree.

Beers I had were in good condition.

3 Aug 2008 12:43

The Bree Louise, Euston

Hadn't been in here for over a month. I had been getting a little bit disappointed with the beer as it wasn't changing much. Last night among the ten available they had three Cottage beers including Wheel Tappers, Wicked Hound and Reservoir Dogs and Moorhouse Black Cat on gravity. Barmaids have certainly improved, I can forgive them interpreting a request for "Pirates Gold" as "Stella" as you get to talk to them for longer. Up a mark for me.

31 Jul 2008 21:01

Flying Horse, Gatwick Airport

New Wetherspoons in airside South Terminal. When I was there on 10 July they had GK IPA nd Abbot and Marstons Pedigree and Old Empire. Spitfire and Bishops Fnger weren't on. Had the Old Empire which was very nice. You know what to expect, pub is decked out with bookshelves but obviously a high turnover polace. Tables didn't seem too strewn with rubbish. Best place for a drink in the area.

28 Jul 2008 00:03

The Cotswold, Cheltenham

Wadworths pub, yesterday they had 6X, Henrys IPA and Horizon. Seemed to be one large bar which opened out onto the street.

OK for a quick pint.

27 Jul 2008 15:20

Adam and Eve, Cheltenham

Quaint old pub in a side street. Some room to sit outside but mostly taken up by a vegetable garden so very pleasant out there. Arkells beers: 2B, 3B and Summer Ale yesterday. Looks like a locals pub but very friendly. Definitely worth a visit.

27 Jul 2008 15:19

The Kemble Brewery Inn, Cheltenham

Very nice back street pub. Yesterday they had Battledown Sunbeam, Cottage Reservoir Dogs, Purity Pure Ubu, Wye Valley HPA and Doom Bar. Attractive small beer garden out the back, sandwiches at 1.50 were a bargain. Great place, will be back if we play Cheltenham again.

27 Jul 2008 15:17

The Exmouth Arms, Euston

Came in for a pint or three last night (actually sat outside among the bright purple and yellow exterior and the masses of flowers). Adnams Bitter, Spitfire and Courage Best, had them all and they were no worse than you would expect. No real reason to come here with the Bree Louise being so close.

24 Jul 2008 21:17

The Crown, Soho

Came in here to get a stamp on the Ale Trail leaflet. Pride, Everards Sunchaser, Old Mill Summer Sunshine, Cains Bitter and also Landlord which was off. Had the Cains which was ok but I'm not sure about Cains beer. Street corner one bar pub, not sure if there was an upstairs.

OK as part of a crawl.

24 Jul 2008 21:13

The Clachan, Soho

Six real ales: Old Mill Summer Sunshine, Landlord, Pride, Thwaites Wainwright & Bomber and Batemans Thirsty Work. Also had Erdinger and bottles of Leffe. Beer quality of those I had didn't seem great but they weren't beers I knew. A large central bar with a raised area at the back. Had a steak pie which was fine.

Overall perfectly acceptable and one of the better Nicholsons.

24 Jul 2008 21:06

The Railway Guard, Epsom

Popped in here for a quick couple after the Barley Mow. Stayed open late, was served around 11.30 I think. Landlord, Black Sheep Bitter, Pride and Bomabardier, clip for Spitfire was turned around. Bigger on the inside than it looks, goes back a fair way. Reasonably cheap beer for the area, ok.

9 Jul 2008 13:27

The Barley Mow, Epsom

Fullers pub - Pride, Discovery and ESB last night together with bottles of 1845, London Porter and Honeydew. They had a guest pump, clip for Hampshire King Alfred was turned around though. Several seperate rooms around a main bar. Nice beer garden too. Not bad.

9 Jul 2008 13:25

The Pontefract Castle, Marylebone

Nicholson's with five real ales and Westons Old Rosie. On Friday night they had Pride, Landlord, Tribute, Bitter & Twisted and Highgate Bee Zone. On 4 levels altogether, they keep the top level as a restaurant, seemed determined not to let anyone up there despite there being no one eating. Ludicrously short pints served that they clearly weren't going to do anything about until prompted.

6 Jul 2008 16:40

The Golden Eagle, Bond Street

Have worked in the area for years but only came in here on Friday night on the way to the Pontefract Castle. Small street corner boozer, Pride, Tribute and guest ale Titanic Steerage. Paint work matches the Tribute bar towels which is a nice touch. For the area it seems a down to earth local. Worth a visit.

6 Jul 2008 16:35

The Kings Tun, Kingston Upon Thames

Visited today, a Sunday afternoon. Standard Wetherspoons, large drinking area upstairs. They were having a local beer festival so in addition to the usual suspects they had Pilgrim, Twickenham, W J King and Weltons beers.

29 Jun 2008 21:36

The Tottenham, Soho

Victorian Nicholsons pub. Only 2 beers on out of about 5 pumps, Landlord and Doom Bar. I had a pint of Erdinger. Separate downstairs bar/dining area. Conssidering this is on Oxford Street it's not bad, would have got an extra mark with a full beer range.

25 Jun 2008 14:26

The Betjeman Arms, St Pancras International Station

Came in here to kill time and have to say I was disappointed as I thought it was supposed to be a proper real ale pub. Only Pride, a couple of clips were turned around. Bottles of Duvel and a couple of Meantime beers. Modern and functional, you have to walk through a couple of dining rooms to get to the toilets. I almost ended up in a storage cupboard before finding the door. Currently the Gents/Disabled are shared with the ladies. Quite fun to watch the girls preening in front of the mirror while I gave my hands a quick rinse.

25 Jun 2008 14:23

Ye Olde Windsor Castle, Bookham

Typical family orientated country pub. Chef & Brewer with what looked like a standard menu. Hogs Back TEA and seasonal Summer Ale plus Hen and Courage Best. Star and Leffe also. Summer Ale was nice. Inside all low and wooden beams, large beer garden outside.

23 Jun 2008 00:30

The Royal Oak, West Molesey

On Thursday they had cloudy but drinkable TEA, Hobgoblin and Courage Best. Central bar, screen to watch the football. Looked like there was a beer garden out back.

21 Jun 2008 19:39

The Europa, East Molesey

On Thursday they had Deuchars IPA, Courage Best, Harveys Best, Pride and Abbot. Many seperate rooms, quiz was going on out the back. Chavs gathered around the pool table.

21 Jun 2008 19:37

The Red Lion, Betchworth

Stopped here in the middle of a walk. Pride and GK IPA, Broadside was off. Pride was serviceable. Main bar area is upstairs and opens out onto a large beer garden. You can also have a view of the cricket green. Looked like there might be a function room downstairs. A little odd that the landlady said she didn't serve beer. Landlord asked for 2.70 for the pint and said "is that ok?", not sure if I was meant to haggle!

21 Jun 2008 19:35

The Rugby Tavern, Clerkenwell

In here on Thursday, Spitfire, Master Brew and the seasonal Early Bird. Looked like there was one main room with a function room upstairs. Horseshoe bar, cothooks attached but not many bar stools. Large windows all round and various rugby memorabilia on the walls. Paved drinking area outside.

Pleasant enough.

14 Jun 2008 12:39

The Lord Clyde, Borough

In here last night as part of the BITE regulars meet up. Good old fashioned pub although they were showing the football. Back room had a hatch through to the bar. Beers as listed below, Adnams was ok.

According to the stattos this pub is in the shortest street in London.

14 Jun 2008 12:33

The Falcon, Clapham Junction

A quick one in here on Thursday night while waiting for a train. Nicholson's pub, worth looking in for the impressive decor. Had a walk round the central bar and I could only see 7 beers on: Harvey's Sussex, Black Sheep Bitter, Pride, Ordinary, Bombardier, Spitfire and Everards Tiger. I had the Tiger which was nothing to get excited about. Would come in again if I had a few minutes to kill.

14 Jun 2008 12:18

The Seven Stars, Chancery Lane

Came in here on Friday night and was a bit disappointed following a previous visit. Adnams Bitter and Broadside together with Fullers Chiswick. They put Harvey's Best on later. 3.20 for Chiswick was ridiculous. They have the most pretentious and expensive pub menu I have ever seen.

Nice little pub, don't wan't to complain, but it could be better.

8 Jun 2008 16:19

The Lamb, Surbiton

In here today, welcoming place and some good chat with the landlord and some locals. Hobgoblin and Flowers IPA but hopefully a third handpump on after a forthcoming refit.

1 Jun 2008 21:48

Duke of York, Surbiton

Greene King IPA, Abbot and Hen. Had some good chat with the locals in a brief visit.

1 Jun 2008 21:44

The Victoria, Surbiton

Not a fan of Young's but this was ok. Landlady clearly takes an interest in what she is doing. Ordinary, Special, Bombadier and Directors. Central bar with a drinking area at the front and a couple of rooms at the back.

1 Jun 2008 21:42

The Coronation Hall, Surbiton

Typical Wetherspoons, good range of beer. No complaints about quality. Underrated on here.

1 Jun 2008 21:26

The Surbiton Flyer, Surbiton

Pride, ESB and Chiswick. Had pump clips up for the seasonals. Chiswick was quite acceptable. One bar, high tables and a few sofas.

1 Jun 2008 21:21

St Marks Tavern, Surbiton

Had a swift half of Pride in here whch was ok. Also had Bombardier which wasn't on, Fruli, Star and Erdinger. OK for a quick pint.

1 Jun 2008 21:16

The Pembury Tavern, Hackney

Any weirdos please sign in.

Weirdo 1 here!

1 Jun 2008 21:04

The Bell, Walton On The Hill

Popped in here on a walk from Epsom to Mogador. Shepherd Neame Whitstable Bay, Adnams Regatta, Pride and Ordinary. Central bar with two drinking areas either side. A cluttered appearance, bar billiard table which was nice to see. Pleasant outside too with a few tables.

A bit difficult to find but worth the effort.

1 Jun 2008 00:37

The Northumberland Arms, Fitzrovia

Small one bar pub. Only Jennings Cumberland Ale on last night which wasn't impressive. They have tried to brighten it up from how it was before but lost some atmosphere. Plenty of better pubs around.

31 May 2008 11:29

The Junction Tavern, Kentish Town

Came here for the beer festival on Friday night. Fenland Rabbit Poacher was very nice as were the Acorn Old Moor Porter and the B & T Black Dragon Mild. Had been here before in winter and thought it was a bit cramped, much better with the beer garden out the back.

I think they normally have Sharp's beers and about three ales available. Have eaten in here before and it was good from what I remember although on the expensive side.

Worth a visit.

24 May 2008 20:08

The Plough, Coldharbour

Stopped in here while on a walk to Leith Hill. Ringwood Best, Old Thumper, Boondoggle plus Spitfire and Landlord (went off when I asked for one). Boondoggle was lovely, also had the Biddenden cider which was almost clear and a bit sweet.

Nice bar, funny chairs with short backs. Landlady although maybe a little curt seemed to be dealing with the regulars ok. Leith Hill beers haven't been brewed for 10 months because the brewer has been ill, wish him well.

As I didn't encounter the problems listed by others I have to give this pub an 8.

24 May 2008 19:58

The Lincoln Arms Hotel, Dorking

Had a swift half while waiting for a train. Spitfire and Pride, Spit was a bit murky. Couple of pool tables and a reasonable beer garden.

Just about ok if meting people or waiting for trains but not a place for a session.

24 May 2008 19:48

The Dovetail, Clerkenwell

Visited for a quick one on Thursday night. Large selection of Belgian beers although unspectacular. Pretty much all the Trappists and the main contenders from the various styles. Zot was the best of the draught beers.

Worth a go.

24 May 2008 19:45

The Jerusalem Tavern, Clerkenwell

Had a swift one in here last night, the Cream Stout which was very nice indeed. Other beers on were the Mild, Best and the Golden Ale.

Difficult to criticise a place for being too popular but you couldn't get in the front door at about 7.15. Had to walk up the side alley. Am not totally convinced by all the St Peter's beers, I've had some in here that weren't great, but this has to be worth a visit.

21 May 2008 13:33

The Cricketers, Croydon

Found my way in here because of a long flight delay at Gatwick. Was very lucky as it was also the start of one of their beer weekends. The regular beers are Harvey's Best and Hophead, they also had Arundel Sussex Mild, Dark Star Over The Moon, Tanglefoot and Burton Bridge XL Mild. I had the Sussex Mild which was ok but not great.

The landlord said he was ready to let me try some of the festival beers, there were 10 out of 12 on gravity and I think the other two were going to be put on the pump. George Wright Pipe Dream was a wonderful golden beer, Howard Town Wren's Nest not as good but got better as it went down. Sarah Hughes Ruby Mild was as flavoursome as ever. The rest of the beers on the list weren't necessarily that unusual (Summer L, JHB, Umbel Magna, Pale Rider but also Orkney Red MacGregor, Burton Bridge Porter etc) but it was a good range. Despite trying the landlord wouldn't take any cash from me for my three halves as I seemed to get designated official taster.

Had the Burma chicken curry which was also very good.

This is a real locals pub but not one where you feel excluded.

Fantastic.

20 May 2008 19:08

The Earl Beatty, Motspur Park

In here tonight for a CAMRA meeting. Bombardier was ok and the Broadside was fine. Spacious pub, pool table in the front bar.

Worthwhile for a pint while waiting for a train.

14 May 2008 00:37

The Salisbury, Leicester Square

Landlord, 6X, Bombardier, Deuchars, Ordinary and Skinners Betty Stogs. Had the Skinners which was very good. Also ate in here and the pie with mash was very tasty and reasonably priced.

Horseshoe main bar with a couple of separate rooms. Lots of wood and mirrors. Bouncer on the door.

Worth a visit.

11 May 2008 00:42

The Harp, Covent Garden

Today apart from the usual three there was Spitfire, Deuchars IPA and Titanic Captain Smiths which was very nice if a bit heavy for a warm afternoon.

11 May 2008 00:35

The Eagle, Hoxton

Up and down the City Road...

Well I popped in here last night to find another of the M & B pubs which have a few real ales, a range of foreign beer and various sized tables, chairs and sofas. Beer garden out the back

Brains Reverend James, Pride, Deuchars IPA and Westons cider. Sierra Nevada on draught too. Took a while to get served although on a sunny evening after work that's to be expected.

Worth a stop on the way to the Wenlock.

9 May 2008 18:26

The Green Dragon, Croydon

Visited today with members of Croydon Real Ale Preservation Society (read the acronym). Dark Star Mild For May, Everards Sunchaser, Spitfire, Brains Milkwood all on draught and Hogs Back A Over T on stillage. Also had a barrel of Brooklands Star Gold but it wasn't on.

Mild was a little cold but the A Over T was scrumptious.

Good pub, good beer, worth a visit.

7 May 2008 00:44

The Abinger Arms, Abinger Hammer

Fairly compact lounge bar with a separate dining area. Had Youngs Ordinary and Black Sheep Bitter which was ok. Unremarkable but nothing bad about it.

5 May 2008 19:07

The Compasses Inn, Gomshall

Pleaeant country pub by a stream, very nice to sit out on a warm day like today. Superb ranger of Surrey Hills: Ranmore, Gilt Complex, Shere Drop and Hammr Mild. I had the Gilt Complex which was lovely.

Close to the station although there is an infrequent service.

Recommended

5 May 2008 19:05

The White Horse, Epsom

Moorhouse Premier, Bath Barnstormer, Coach House Cheshire Gold and Bishop's Finger tonight. Had the first three which were all very good. On last visit they only had one ale which was a bit disappointing but if they keep up to this standard then I will be in here lots. Up a mark based on tonight.

2 May 2008 00:42

The Waggon and Horses, Surbiton

Visited for a CAMRA meeting yesterday. Ordinary , Special, Bombardier and Deuchars. I was driving so just had a bottle of the Chocolate Stout.

A spacious pub, room upstairs and a separate meeting room it looked like downstairs.

Nice enough for a Youngs pub.

30 Apr 2008 13:41

The Famous 3 Kings (F3K), West Kensington

Went in last night for the WBA v Saints game. Pride and Brains SA Gold were supposedly available but I'm not sure the Pride was ever on. The Brains ran out towards the end of the evening and they still wouldn't turn the pump clips around.

Had a steak sandwich which was ok but nothing special.

Worth a visit if there is a game you want to see that is clashing with another match. On a Saturday night when I'd visited before they were charging to get in but don't know if they still do.

29 Apr 2008 13:27

The Brew Wharf, London Bridge

I can't really agree with the reviews slagging this place off. There is nothing that wrong with it apart from it being so horrendously expensive. The Brew Wharf is much more of a restaurant than a pub anyway. I had the Brew Wharf Blonde which I grew to like and at 3.40 a pint I should hope so. A decent range of Belgian and other foreign beers but just a few examples of what they charge: Rochefort 8 6.00, Duvel 5.00, Boon Kriek 6.50, Schneider Weisse 5.90, large bottles of Meantime IPA/Porter 12.50.

Totally ludicrous especially with the Rake nearby which is not quite so ridiculous. The Brew Wharf needs separate ratings for those who are loaded and those who aren't!

27 Apr 2008 00:03

The Wheatsheaf, Borough

Made the effort to get in here for the first time. Ordinary, Special, Directors, Bombardier and my choice the Deuchars which was nice enough. Also Erdinger and Staropramen on tap and Youngs London Ale and Chocolate Stout in bottles. Two areas either side of a central bar. Not great but perfectly acceptable.

26 Apr 2008 23:52

The Greenwich Union, Greenwich

After walking from the Thames Barrier to Greenwich and a quick pie and mash from the food market, 2.50 very good value, I dropped in for a quick one at the Greenwich Union. Adanams Bitter and a raft of Meantime beers including Helles, Kolner, London Pale Ale (assume it's the ordinary pale ale), London Stout, Wheat, Raspberry and something labelled "Special" whch might have just have been a spare tap. Also a list of 30 or so bootled beers, some Meantime but some unusual ones including Rodenbach Grand Cru as well as the normal Belgians.

Sunny day so I headed into the beer garden with a pint of the stout which was very tasty although at 3.40 a little pricy. Touristy place, as is to be expected on a Sunday afternoon, all wood and generally clean.

Definitely worth a visit and I will hope to be back.

20 Apr 2008 20:37

The Royal Oak, Borough

Finished here on Saturday on the way back from Charlton. Had the Mild, Pale Ale and Porter which were all ok. They also had Best and Armada. Not entirely convinced by the Harvey's beers. Rabbit casserole was very nice.

13 Apr 2008 21:30

The Prince Albert (Rose's), Woolwich

Came in before and after the Charlton game on Saturday. 6 handpumps although only three were on at any one time. There seemed to be a lot of Fuller's material around the place but no Fuller's beer. When we got there they had Cottage Wheel Tappers, Coach House St George's and Millstone Vale Mill. Beers were replaced by Oxforshire Marshmellow and Hampshire Tale of the Dragon.

A few bottles but not as good a range as is suggested by the GBG. Hot steak baguettes were good value at 2.50.

If you are an away supporter visiting the Valley well worth considering coming to this friendly pub to avoid the crowds. There was a minor ruck going on when we got back after the game, dispute over a darts match I think!

13 Apr 2008 21:20

The Southwark Tavern, London Bridge

M & B pub, the sort with foreign beer on tap and a small range of real ale. In this case we had Harvey's Best, Black Sheep Bitter and Pride. Also had Old Rosie, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Franziskaner on draught. We turned up about 11.30 on Saturday, busy as you would expect being next to Borough market and with a pre football crowd. Service wasn't quick. Overall not bad and worth a visit.

13 Apr 2008 20:43

Quinn's, Camden

Visited again last night and there was no real ale on! They usually have four.

Started drinking Rochefort 8 at about 6.30 which was a bad move...

12 Apr 2008 10:06

Old Plough, Stoke D'Abernon

Came in here for a CAMRA meeting last Thursday. Landlord had gor Surrey Hills Ranmore in especially and they also had Hepworth Prospect, Hogs Back HBB, Harveys Best and Twickenham Naked Ladies. I had the first three which were all ok, particularly the Ranmore and the other two I was told were excellent.

Landlord even gave us some free bacon rolls.

Excellent.

7 Apr 2008 18:36

The Angel of the South, Southampton

Not my normal pub in Southampton but ended up here after the game yesterday. Only one real ale, Courage Best. They were doing a Saints based quiz and handing out some free drinks, had a couple of Mickey Finns.

AC/DC was playing loud and there was a really good atmosphere.

Not bad

6 Apr 2008 13:48

Corporation, Canton

No real ale despite advertising itself as a GK pub. Only Ruddles Best and John Smiths and the Ruddles wasn't on!

Avoid

31 Mar 2008 22:44

The Westgate, Cardiff

Came here on the way back to the station from Ninian Park. Brains only: Dark, Bitter, SA and Bread of Heaven. Tasted ok but maybe a little cold.

OK for watching the football.

31 Mar 2008 14:07

The Cayo Arms Hotel, Cardiff

Continued from below, it really would help if we could edit reviews.

Not sure what happened there! Back to the review.

...Chwarae Teg. Started with the Wild Mule which was on the turn although I think it probably does have a bit of an odd taste, very fruity. Rest of the beers I tried were fine.

Apart from a few locals it was mostly us in there.

Food ok, had a Mexican burger which was fine.

A change from the usual Brains pubs.

31 Mar 2008 13:59

The Cayo Arms Hotel, Cardiff

Visited on Saturday as Saints were playing Cardiff. Pedigree, Banks's Original, Roosters Outlaw Wild Mule, Thwaites Double Century and Tomos Watkins OSB and

31 Mar 2008 13:54

The South Western, St Denys

Great pub with a wide selection of ales. Summer Lightning, Deuchars, Harveys Best, Atlantic IPA, Loddon Rin Tin Tin, Tower Spring Equinox, Stonehenge Sign of Spring and Ventnor Golden Bitter. Also had a Westons cider.

Bare wood rustic look, seems like a friendly local. Used to come in here over 20 years ago when it was called Nellies Nob, I think the sign is still around.

Beer festival coming up in May.

28 Mar 2008 21:42

Bar Malden, New Malden

Marstons beers: Pedigree, Sun Bright, Burton Bitter and Sneck Lifter. Had all apart from the Burton and they were all good. Sneck Lifter very nice.

Modern type of pub, nothing too special but decent enough for a pint and convenient for the station. Bus gets you to Worcester Park station in 7 minutes so also good for those like me in the Epsom direction.

28 Mar 2008 00:19

The Black Horse, Fitzrovia

Nicholson's pub so some decent real ale including London Pride, Landlord and the monthly guest Hyde's Jekyll's Gold which was ok but nothing special. They had a board up where you could vote for the monthly guest.

Long narrow downstairs bar area, looked like there was an upstairs room although it is one of those places where it is described as a function/dining room so you are not sure if it is always open.

27 Mar 2008 18:32

The Horse and Groom, Great Portland Street

Came in here for a quick one last night. No OBB in cask, I had a bottle of Oatmeal Stout which was on the expensive side at around 3.50. Nice pub though, various rooms around the central bar including one with a dartboard and an upstairs bar too.

Will give it a 6 which is exceptional for pub with no cask ale.

27 Mar 2008 18:27

The Earl Beatty, Motspur Park

Food menu shows it is trying to be a Wetherspoons but without the beer. All they had was a very average Bombardier although there is one other pump and I'm sure they've had more than one on before. Useful enough if you are waiting for a train as it is a minute to the platforms but I wouldn't want to spend more than 20 minutes here.

24 Mar 2008 20:33

The Sovereigns, Woking

Stopped here on the way to Kingfield Stadium. A few Salisbury fans were in so it was busy at the bar but not too long a wait. Excellent beer choice with Kelham Island Pale Rider, Highgate Irish Whiskey Ale, Cairngorm Nessie's Monster Mash, Deuchards, HSB nd the ubiquitous GK IPA. Had the first three and they were all very good.

Very roomy, looks like you would be unlucky not to get a seat. No real pub character, clearly aiming at food, but can't knock it for the beer.

24 Mar 2008 20:29

The Herbert Wells, Woking

Standard Wetherspoons that you would find anywhere else in the country. Hogs Back Spring Ale, Burton Bridge Sovereign Gold, Elgoods Old Wagg, Wickwar Severn Bore with Directors and GK IPA and Abbot. The Elgoods was nice and my BLT was fine too.

24 Mar 2008 20:23

The Giddy Bridge, Southampton

Standard Wetherspoons. Ringwood beers plus Pedigree, Abbot and some more Itchen Valley/Hampshire Brewery beers.

Old Thumper was nice enough tonight.

23 Mar 2008 00:16

Inn 1888, Marylebone

Clean and tidy and uncluttered with tables. Only GK IPA and Abbot. Thai food, had a red curry which was ok. I think there is an upstairs function room.

21 Mar 2008 19:58

The Green Man, Great Portland Street

They had six real ale pumps showing today and they said that only two were on.

When will pubs learn to turn the clips around!

19 Mar 2008 18:01

The Brewery Inn, Ashtead

One beer of note being Moorhouses Pride of Pendle. Others were Deuchars, Pride, GK IPA and Youngs Ordinary. Cleaned up since I was last in here many years ago.

19 Mar 2008 00:51

The Woodman, Ashtead

In here tonight on a CAMRA crawl. One of us walked out due to the slow service. 6 ales but nothing exciting, GK IPA, Abbot, Spit, Pride, Bomba and Broadside. Irritating that they had a list of Ember Inns guests which all looked good but nothing was on.

One up from a Wetherspoons basically.

19 Mar 2008 00:47

Washington, Blackpool

Greene King pub, only had Abbot and IPA. Basically a Wetherspoons without the beer.

16 Mar 2008 22:35

Albert, Blackpool

Visited on 8 March as Saints were in Blackpool. Just moved up from the Wetherspoons to watch the football on a large screen. No real ale so had to resort to Newcastle Brown. Looked like it was just one main bar area which also contained a pool table. Staff pleasant enough and ok for the hour or so we were there.

16 Mar 2008 22:33

Nelson's Retreat, Old Street

Used to visit here a lot but last night was the first time for ages. Only saw GK IPA on. Long bar area with a pool table at the left hand end.

Bizarrely enough we used to meet in here before going to the Wenlock for the Thursday quiz. Didn't take too long to realise we may as well cut out this place.

16 Mar 2008 16:14

Zigfrid, Hoxton

There was a queue for the ground floor, not sure if it was a restaurant, but we went straight into the downstairs bar. No real ale, only thing remotely worth drinking was Staropramen.

More of a club than a pub anyway with loud music playing. Bearable for what it is.

16 Mar 2008 16:11

The Hole in the Wall, Hull

Came in out of the fog yesterday. Pool room out back and reasonable room in a slighyly shabby front bar. On the board they had Summer Lightning, Tetley, Roosters Yankee and Old Mill Mild but only the last two were on.

Handy for a pint on the way from the ground to the station but nothing special.

16 Mar 2008 16:07

The Wellington Inn, Hull

Brilliant pub. 6 real ales yesterday: Ossett IPA and Silver Fox, Leeds Midnight Bell, Abbeydale Absolution, Tetley and one they came on just as we were leaving. Draft Maredsous 8, Erdinger, St Louis Kriek and a Czech beer Bernard. Over 70 bottled Belgians together with German and US beer.

Was quiet when we got in at about 12.30 on Saturday afternoon, filled up with football supporters home and away.

A must visit.

16 Mar 2008 13:18

The Berrylands, Berrylands

Visited on Monday night. They had special, Bombardier and Batemans Hooker although the Bombardier was off fairly quickly. Wasn't sure of the quality of the Batemans at first but it ot better. Special was ok. Evidently they sometimes have four beers on.

Nice enough pub, fairly spacious. Bands play here.

12 Mar 2008 13:34

The Notter Bridge Inn, Saltash

Don't really understand why you could't have kept dry by either sitting in the pub or the car?

9 Mar 2008 21:07

The Auctioneer, Blackpool

Absolutely bog standard Wetherspoons so you will know whether you will like it. Quite a reasonable beer range assuming all he pumps were working: Hawkshead Lakeland Gold, Vale VPA, Tom Wood Old Timer, Moorhouses Pendle Witch's Brew, Abbot, Pedgree and Old Hooky.

9 Mar 2008 15:15

The Pump and Truncheon, Blackpool

A lot of scaffolding in front of the pub but certainly open. Only four ales on; Spitfire and Boddingtons (cask)together with Thwaites Orginal and Phoenix Spotland Gold. The Phoenix was a very hoppy lovely beer. They did have a couple lined up to come on: Fuzzy Duck Thumb Ducker and Hyde's Jekyll's Gold.

We were in just after 11am so it was very quiet. Barman was happy to chat.

Worth a visit and very close to Central Pier.

9 Mar 2008 15:09

Churchills Bar, Blackpool

Something of a throwback, you could imagine that this place hasn't changed since the Sixties. Ordinary beer, Bombardier, Spitfire, Hen and Batemans XXXB none of which was great. Entertainment was so bad it was good with Frankie and Friends, a short bloke in a bowler hat accompanied by an accordion, and "Female Impersonator" Jo-Anna Dawes. Locals were friendly and we had the sort of evening where you are not sure whether it was brilliant or cringeworthy.

9 Mar 2008 15:00

The Old Vic, Preston

Stopped for a couple of pints while changing trains on the way to Blackpool. Theakstons Best, Directors, Deuchars, Pedigree and two Moorhouse beers, Blonde Witch and Pride of Pendel. Tried the latter two and they were both in good form.

Plenty of room and a very pleasant pub to spend some time, I even enjoyed the eighties music.

9 Mar 2008 14:47

Brave New World, Surbiton

Came in here for a CAMRA committee meeting tonight. Only Doom Bar on but it was perfectly acceptable. They had a pump for Atlantic IPA but it was turned around. Fairly spacious and a reasonable place for a pint. Attractive barmaids.

6 Mar 2008 00:01

Delirium Cafe, Brussels

Obviously a great selection of beer but when I asked for the main menu they said there were only three copies and I would have to hunt around. Managed to borrow one from a couple at the bar but you feel obliged to leaf through it fairly quickly so I didn't get a true feel for they have available. They have more copies of a more limited menu.

Upstairs area was fairly quiet, downstairs noisier but I got a seat at the bar and met some interesting people.

You have to visit just to say you've been here. Don't mis the Jannekin Pis just a little further up the alley on the right set in the wall behind some iron gates.

3 Mar 2008 18:32

De Garre, Bruges

Went in here on my first trip to Bruges and was lucky enough to visit on our trip at the weekend. Worth the effort to seek out, just off Markt. Don't be put off by the sign for "Cookies". Atmospheric rickety old place. Had the Garre Tripel (only just found out it is 11.5%, no wonder I had a headache the next morning) and a Hercule Stout. Tables are all very close together so you are likely to get talking to other drinkers if you want.

Must visit.

3 Mar 2008 18:20

't Brugs Beertje, Bruges

Fabulous bar, we always end up here every night on our trips to Bruges. Friendly helpful staff, brilliant range of beer. You will always end up talking to someone in here. Open until at least 2am normally although I don't think I've ever left because it's been closing. Normally have 5 0r 6 beers en vat, certainly had Zot, Hommelbier and t' Smisje Dubbel IPA on Saturday night.

Essential visit

3 Mar 2008 18:03

Honest Lawyer, Scunthorpe

Had a beer or three in here before and after Saints played the Iron. Friendly pub, had a good chat with the reglars about why it had dropped out of the GBG - they don't like the local CAMRA!

8 real ales: Daleside bitter, Kelham Island Scrumtious, Black Dog Schooner, Landlord, Salopian Hop Twister, Ashover Poets Tipple, Bradfield Blonde and Beartown Bearskinful. All that I had were in reasonable condition although a shade on the cold side.

I did't eat in here but the food they were bringing out looked excellent, genuinely home cooked it seemed and reasonably priced.

Not too far from the station and well worth a visit.

27 Feb 2008 00:55

The Euston Flyer, Euston

Just realised I gave this a rating without a review or else it's been deleted. Was in here over Christmas and they had both London Porter and Old Winter Ale on draught, Porter was very nice. Limited selection of foreign beer too.

Worth a look.

25 Feb 2008 18:07

The Myddleton Arms, Islington

Only GK IPA and no decent bottles. Reasonable as a pub otherwise, small front bar with room the other side.

No reason to make a visit.

24 Feb 2008 22:57

The Berkeley Hotel, Scunthorpe

Had a quick pint of OBB in here after Saints played the Iron. Very cheap, only something like 1.29. Plenty of space in the main bar and another large drinking area. Sam Smith's so you know what to expect beer wise.

24 Feb 2008 22:07

The Plough, Doncaster

Nice little pub just out of the shopping centre. Barnsley Bitter was excellent, Bass ok too. Nothing to get really excited about but simply a down to earth, friendly local.

Worth a visit.

24 Feb 2008 22:03

The Masons Arms, Fitzrovia

Change of ownership from Monday and a change of beer. GK IPA, Spitfire and ESB which was well served.

Something of a srreal exprience last night as the "hands on" landlord decided we were going to listen to Singalonga Max. Pack Up Your Troubles In Your Old Kit Bag and It's A Long Way To Tipperary evoked the spirit of the Blitz and by the end of the evening most of the punters probably lived through it.

Will be interesting to see what sort of crowd this is going to attract, particularly in the evenings.

23 Feb 2008 07:44

The Albert Arms, Esher

Mark for this place is being dragged down by some old ratings.

In here on Wednesday and 8 real ales were on, I tried the Surrey Hills Shere Drop and Albury Ruby, Crouch Vale Amarillo and the Waylands Addled Ale. All very nice particularly the Albury. They also had Twickenham Original and Naked Ladies, Pride and Brewers Gold.

A must visit if you are in the area, worth making a trip for if not.

23 Feb 2008 07:38

The Mad Bishop and Bear, Paddington

OK this has the air of a Wetherspoonns and the draft beer I had (Swing Low and Chiswick) wasn't served particularly well. Full range of draft Fullers but what sets this apart is the bottled range. Just about every Fullers I've heard of including Golden Pride, Old Winter Ale, 1845, London Porter and as a special treat 2005 Vintage Ale and Anniversary Ale. Surprised this is in GBG but worth making the effort to go up the escalators. Lucky to find it if you don't know it's there.

16 Feb 2008 22:34

The Wellington, Horfield

In here today before the Saints debacle at Bristol Rovers. Was meant to be home fans only but we got in for a quick couple before the game. Maybe not seen at its best because it was rammed and we had to dring from plastic glasses. 4 Bath Ales were on: Gem, Spa, Wild Hare and Festivity. Had the first two which were ok. Intereting layout with two or three rooms off the main bar.

16 Feb 2008 22:28

Knights Templar, Bristol

Average Wetherspoons, on today were Archers Six Hop, Pedigree, Cottage Buzzard, Burton Bridge Sovereign Gold, Abbot and Wickwar Mr Perretts. The two I had were ok, if a little cold.

16 Feb 2008 22:24

The White Horse, Epsom

Strangely this is my nearest pub and I hadn't been in here for something like 10 years. After reading good reviews I thought it was worth a visit and there was no disappointment. OSH which I assume is the regular and three rugby themed ales: Caledonian Try'd and Tested, Bateman's Hooker and Brains Bread of Heaven. Also Leffe and Hoegaarden and bottles of Belle Vue Kriek. Clan and spacious with promises of a beer festival in May. Only minor gripe is that it is a little too "nice".

Glad to have rediscovered it.

15 Feb 2008 00:13

The Willoughby Arms, Kingston Upon Thames

Here tonight for the Kingston and North Leatherhead CAMRA AGM. Lovely proper pub compared to the Canbury which I had just left. 5 real ales being Marstons Sweet Chariot, Twickenham Strong & Dark and Scrum down, Brakspear and Pride. Landlord offered us Shere Drop from the cellar too.

Recommended.

14 Feb 2008 00:39

The Canbury Arms, Kingston Upon Thames

Ended up in here by mistake on the way to the Willoughby. Fair enough, 5 real ales which were Harvey's Sussex, Landlord, HSB, Scrum Down and Doom Bar. Had the HSB for the first time in its Fullers incarnation which was very nice. They had some quiz on which meant the place was particularly full of "okay yars". More bottles of wine sold than at a Jilly Goulden fan club convention. Quite clearly aimed at food but still with 5 good real ales can't knock it too much.

14 Feb 2008 00:33

The Carpenters Arms, Marble Arch

Fabulous pub and deservedly in GBG. Tonight they had Harvey's Sussex, Broadside, Archers Fat Belly Boozer, Skinners Figgy Brew, Cottage Jack At The Movies and Stonehenge Pigswill.

Proper pub with proper beer. Highly recommended.

11 Feb 2008 23:12

The Boot, St Pancras

No real ale but if you looked hard enough there was Wychwood Circlemaster, Hen and Newcastle in bottles, albeit a little too warm. Pleasant enough and interesting Sunderland memorabilia on the walls. Dartboard was too low.

9 Feb 2008 00:43

The Lion, Croydon

Don't let a down at heel shabby appearance put you off. Yesterday they had Master Brew and three Hepworth beers: Sussex, Iron Horse and Old Ale. Kent's Best and Spitfire were on the board but not available. They also had a few bottles including Owd Rodger. The TV we were watching the rugby on wasn't tuned in properly but this is well worth a visit. Shame that on a Saturday night there were so few punters.

3 Feb 2008 13:49

The Railway Telegraph, Thornton Heath

Youngs pub but feels like a Wetherspoons in the large back bar. OK, I was in before football yesterday which would explain the plastic glasses but only Ordinary was available. Just about ok for a pre match pint and at least it wasn't a fight to get served but not really very good.

3 Feb 2008 13:42

The Claret Free House, Addiscombe

Excellent place, right next to Addiscombe tram stop.

Palmers Best, Spitfire, Dark Star Porter & Hophead and Hogs Back HBB & Hop Garden Gold. Most normal strengthe beer is 2.30 - 2.40 and even the Porter at 5.5% was only 2.50. They have a board with a comprehensive list of what's coming up, around 20 or so including beers from Westerham, Cottage, Cairngorm and Nethergate.

Friendly atmosphere, thoroughly recommended.

3 Feb 2008 13:37

The Assembly Rooms, Epsom

Had a swift half here while waiting for a train. Bog standard Wetherspoons but nice to see a range of Hogs Back: HBB, Hop Garden Gold and Winter Ale. Also had Pedigree and GK IPA & Abbot.

3 Feb 2008 13:32

The Argyll Arms, Oxford Circus

Wandered down here for a pint or two after a meal tonight. In the National Inventory (I think) so worth coming down just for a look around. Tonight they had Black Sheep, Landlord, Pride, Abbot, Spitfire and Everards Tiger so a reasonable if unexciting range. Busy but we still found somewhere to sit. For such a central London pub this is as good as you could expect. As we were waiting for people to catch up before we went in we did get to look at a nice selection of young ladies in short skirts too.

2 Feb 2008 01:25

The Waterloo Arms, Freemantle

Excellent Hop Back pub, full range and they also had the Special, Downton Forest King and Ringwood Forty Niner. Very cheap, only 2.05 for GFB, Entire Stout was lovely.

Recommended.

27 Jan 2008 23:20

Dirty Dick's, Bishopsgate

Let's face it, Young's beer isn't very good. If Fullers had this it would be worth visiting more than once.

26 Jan 2008 01:31

The Gunmakers, Marylebone

GK IPA, Hen, Bombardier and Spitfire. Nice enough place for a lunchtime drink, can get busy.

26 Jan 2008 01:29

The Chandos, Trafalgar Square

Have been here before but tonight was the first time I realised there was an upstairs bar. Bog standard Sam Smiths but that's no bad thing. Taddy Porter was lovely. Worth a visit.

25 Jan 2008 00:19

The Harp, Covent Garden

6 real ales tonight but nothing unusual: Landlord, Sussex, Spitfire, Black Sheep, Eden and Hobgoblin. Nice little pub but not as good for beer as I was expecting.

25 Jan 2008 00:16

The Bar at tcr, Tottenham Court Road

No real ale and only Hen and Kasteel Cru in bottles that I could see. Clean, antiseptic, ok for a lunchtime drink but nothing more.

25 Jan 2008 00:13

The Dickens Tavern, Paddington

Swift pint in here after a trip to Plymouth. When we got in all the real ales were off, had to wait for Bombardier. Two or three others should have been on but only standard stuff. Nothing to recommend it.

20 Jan 2008 01:06

Pennycomequick Hotel, Plymouth

Popped in here for a quick one on the way back to the tation. Unsurprisingly it was busy after the game. Only Tribute was on. OK place as a stopgap but you're not going to spend any time in here.

20 Jan 2008 01:03

Navy Inn, The Barbican

Came in here before the Saints game today. Had Tribute which was nice, also available were 6X, GK IPA (off) and one other. Pool only 70p now. Lots of military related photos on the walls.

Reasonable for a pre match pint.

20 Jan 2008 01:01

The Smugglers Tavern, Warren Street

Used to come here fairly often but today was the first time since the refit. They've cleaned it up and it looks shiny. Only Pride was on, looked like they had Bombardier normally. OK for a lunchtime drink but wouldn't want a session in here.

18 Jan 2008 21:47

The Rake, London Bridge

Is this place expensive? You pay less for a bottle of exceptional beer than you would for a glass of very average wine in any pub in London. Bar staff are knowledgeable and helpful and very friendly. OK only two real ales, Ballards Wassail and Twickenham Naked Ladies tonight but with SNPA, Maisels Weisse, Cantillon Geuze and an unknown 8% beer who cares. Bottled range is excellent, anywhere with Rochefort 6, 8 and 10 can't be faulted. Told Simon and Cat I could only give this a 9 because of the lack of real ale but thinking about it can only be a 10. Hope to be back here soon.

18 Jan 2008 01:18

The Bridge House, Tower Bridge

Ignore the negative reviews I liked this place. The Bitter, Broadside, Explorer (very nice) and Tally Ho (toffee notes incredible). Also Meantime Pale Ale (better than than bottled version) and Helles. A wheat on draught too. Food good value for what I had.

Recommended.

18 Jan 2008 01:09

East India Arms, Fenchurch Street

Good old fashioned pub but only a full range of Shep, which to be honest is only average beer. Lucky to be in GBG.

18 Jan 2008 01:04

The Old Forge, Otterbourne

Strikes you as being more of a restaurant than a pub. Timothy Taylor Landlord and Ringwood Best were available, the latter was ok. Light and airy place with a ranch style decor.

Preobably only worth it if the food is any good.

13 Jan 2008 14:24

The Black Boy, Winchester

Doesn't open until 12 so had to wait outside for a few minutes. Very old rambling interior, lots of different rooms branching off a central bar. While I was there the stuffed donkey was returned from a photo shoot.

Summer Lightning, Flowerpots bitter and Ringwood Best as constants. Two others rotating which were Bowman Wallops Wood and Hampshire Penny Black.

Landlady and (attractive) barmaid were very friendly as were the locals. Sort of pub you would like to be in your street.

A must visit.

13 Jan 2008 14:18

The Wykeham Arms, Winchester

Quirky pub, lots of rooms off a main bar. Got there at about 11.30 am yesterday and from the outside I wasn't sure it was open. Dark and candlelit inside, schooldesks are a little awkward to sit at.

Assume this is ex Gales; HSB, Butser, Pride and Chiswick were on. Pint of Butser was nice enough.

Worth seeking out.

13 Jan 2008 14:10

The Leopard, Doncaster

Dashed over on Saturday from Bansley for a quick pint or two. Managed a Glentworth Midwinter Gem and a Tom Wood Christmas Cheers, the Gem was a lovely hoppy ale. In a way I was surprised it was in he Good Beer Guide, even more down at heel than the Wenlock, but the beer was ok.

31 Dec 2007 00:50

The Prince Regent, Marylebone

Very similar to a couple of other Mitchell & Butler pubs close by. A range of foreign beers on tap, three real ales and a cider on handpump and assorted chairs and sofas. Had the Kuppers Kolsch which I hadn't seen before.

Not the worst and may well be back.

27 Dec 2007 22:15

The Fat Cat, Colchester

Visited on Boxing Day before Saints played Colchester. Unfortunately I was driving which was a real shame considring the beer on offer, 4 on handpump and 12 in the tap room according to the board.

I had the Fat Cat Best which was lovely and a half of the Fat Cat Honey which was very nice too. Small but worthwhile list of foreign beer, shame that with Colchester moving ground I am unlikely to come here again.

Top marks.

27 Dec 2007 22:09

Swan and Rushes, Leicester

Glad this one has just been added, as it's in GBG not sure why it wasn't before.

Anyway, came in here on Sat 1 December after seeing Saints at Leicester. Only a flying visit as we were going back to the station but it seemed excellent. 6 or more ales on draught, I had JHB, and a super selection of foreign beer.

Top marks, hope I get spend more time in here.

11 Dec 2007 18:15

Sloanes, Leicester

I like this place, came in for my second visit on Saturday following Saints. Lots of good beer, the Potbelly Beijing Black was excellent, and the barmaid was very pleasant.

Will be back.

2 Dec 2007 21:43

Barley Mow, Leicester

Came in here on Saturday as we were up for the Saints game. A full range of Evereards was available together with the seasonal Sleighbell. Nice little pub near the station.

Recommended.

2 Dec 2007 21:40

The Castle, Holborn

Visited on Friday night. Small bar downstais which was packed when we got in at about 6.45. Realised there was a room and small bar upstairs where there was more space. Seven or eight beers on, Jarrow Rivet Catcher was excellent. I suspect Youngs Ordinary and Nethergate Red Car Bitter (don't know if it's a rebadge or specially brewed) will be the only regulars. All beers less than 4.2% I believe. Erdinger on draught.

A must visit.

2 Dec 2007 13:19

The Golden Lion Hotel, Ipswich

Rushed in here last night as my train was delayed and only left me about 20 minutes to sink a couple of pints before the game. Had a Hampshire Brewery Lionheart and a Naylor's Pinnacle. Both very enjoyable, particularly the Lionheart. Not a typical Wetherspoons, a lot more pub like and I wouldn't put you off.

28 Nov 2007 21:40

The Cricketers, Southampton

Have visited here a few times, latest was yesterday evening. Three real ales on, each time I've been in they have been different. Last night there were a couple from Isle of Purbeck and Smiles Best.

I like this place and the barmaids are a bonus, although I haven't seen the really good one recently.

25 Nov 2007 12:18

The Kings Arms, Clerkenwell

We use this for our home darts matches. GK IPA, Broadside and Landlord were available on Thursday, only had the last two which were in good condition. Was pretty busy in here, good atmosphere.

25 Nov 2007 12:13

The Calthorpe Arms, Holborn

Pleasant and friendly no-frills pub serving the full range of Youngs. Worth a visit but as it's only Youngs which isn't my beer of choice would only do a couple in here.

25 Nov 2007 12:10

The Griffin, Brentford

Had a pre match Pride on Saturday and very nice it was too. Always tastes at its best in here. Pride is the only cask beer available but they had ESB and Honeydew in bottles.

Always packed in here before games and despite only having one beer it's thoroughly recommended.

19 Nov 2007 22:29

The Hope, Tottenham Court Road

Reasonable little pub, don't know about the upstairs. Pride, 6X and Adnams Bitter were available. Packed on a Friday night so had to go outside. A decent alternative to the Jack Horner for a pre Astoria pint.

19 Nov 2007 22:25

The Robert Peel, Kingston Upon Thames

Came here on Saturday to see Twelfth Night, excellent. Not sure I would come here as a pub, only Adnams The Bitter on and a bit of a dive.

As a music venue it's fine though.

19 Nov 2007 22:23

The Penderel's Oak, Holborn

Had a pint of Saltaire Chocolate Stout in here, very nice. It was coming to the end of the festival and while they had 7 or 8 on not sure any were the festival beers. Basically a bog standrad Wetherspoons and busy as it was a Friday night.

17 Nov 2007 23:47

The Earl of Camden, Camden

Watched the Arsenal game in here last night. Supposedly had Deuchars, Bombardier and Pride but only the latter was on. Unforgivably they didn't turn the pump clips around all night. Bar staff left something to be desired too, had no clue what I was on about when I was asking for Deuchars or Erdinger (which again they didn't have despite it being on the menu).

On the whole not the worst place to watch football and maybe it was an off night but can only rate on how it was.

13 Nov 2007 20:00

The Oxford, Kentish Town

Cami in here Friday before a gig at the Forum. They had Doom Bar, Deuchars and Harvey's Sussex Best. The Sussex was fine. Fairly busy and quite lively, probably the closest decent pub to the Forum.

11 Nov 2007 14:02

The Bankers Draft, Sheffield

Had a quick one in here yesterday on the way back to the station, a very tasty pint of Jaipur IPA. Had another 8 or 9 on, not all festival beers. Seemed ok to me.

11 Nov 2007 13:58

The Fat Cat, Sheffield

Visited yesterday after the Kelham Island Tavern.

Can't really add too much, a great range of beer and an interesting layout to the place. I had beers from the Hornbeam, Beartown and Derby breweries.

11 Nov 2007 13:53

The Kelham Island Tavern, Sheffield

Visited yesterday on a trip to Sheff Wed. Excellent pub, excellent beer - I had Acorn Tangerine Dream and a Red Rock Humber Down Mild out of a choice of 8 or so. Also had Warsteiner on draught together with a wheat beer.

11 Nov 2007 13:48

Moon On The Hill, Harrow

Visited here on Sunday to try a few beers in the JDW festival. Managed 5 or so and all the beer seemed in good order, a couple changing while we were there. Tables were a bit messy when we turned up around 7pm but they were cleared eventually. A small Wetherspoons and a perfectly acceptable place to drink.

8 Nov 2007 23:29

The Masque Haunt, Old Street

Came here to tick off another GBG pub. A few negative reviews on here but I decide on beer and this place had 9 on tonight and only Pedigree out of the usual real ales. Had a perfectly acceptable pint of Springhead Goodrich Castle, they had some beers from the forthcoming festival. OK it's a standard Wetherspoons but how many pubs in town have 9 real ales? Got to be worth an 8.

1 Nov 2007 01:05

The Royal Star, Hoxton

Only come here to play pool and occasionally darts for London Saints. Only real ale is a reasonable pint of Pride. Sport on screens. Perfectly reasonable pub but let's face it, it's only 5 minutes to the Wenlock.

1 Nov 2007 00:57

The Ship and Shovell, Charing Cross

Came in here while waiting for a train at Charing Cross. Had the K & B Sussex and a Fursty Ferret. Tanglefoot and First Gold were also on. Not sure about Badger beers, used to really like them but they have definitely got a taste of their own and I wouldn't want to drink them all night. Perfectly acceptable pub.

28 Oct 2007 11:47

The Cove, Covent Garden

Gave this place a go yesterday while killing time in London. Was happy enough to find it as the address didn't make sense, just look out for the West Country pasty shop.

4 ales on while I was thee, 2 Skinners and 2 St Austell. Had he Proper Job and an Ice Blonde whih were both ok. Wasn't too packed as it was Saturday afternoon and the service was fine.

Good if you want to watch some entertainment in Covent Garden but you will still be asked for cash!

28 Oct 2007 11:39

Red Lion, Sheffield

Had a quick one in here on the way back to the station after Saints v Blades. Seemed good enough and a decent selection of real ales including Bradfield beers.

27 Oct 2007 01:50

The Wenlock Arms, Hoxton

Have been here many times, especially for Thursday quiz with the Fat Controller.

Visited tonight for te beer festival and excellent as always. OK if you are being picky you could say it is a shabby back street boozer. But if not you could say it is just about the best pub in London. If you are a real ale drinker get here ASAP.

27 Oct 2007 01:41

The Coronation, Bedminster

Visited tonight before Saints played Bristol City. Pretty much a full range of Hop Back beers: GFB, Crop Circle, Odyssey, Summer Lightning and I believe a seasonal - Thunderstorm. Entire Stout and Taiphoon in bottles with at least one from Downton. Lovely back street local. Food was pizzas for a fiver each which were excellent.

Thoroughly recommended, only problem was I was driving so only two halves before the game.

25 Oct 2007 01:04

Ye Old Mitre, Holborn

Have been here a few times now. Took some people in last night who couldn't understand how anyone would find it. Friday night and very busy, ended up squeezed in upstairs. Adnams Bitter and Broadside, Deuchars and the guest was Phoenix Arizona. Will definitely be back.

20 Oct 2007 12:21

The Cittie of Yorke, Holborn

I like popping in here occasionally. Worth a visit just to look at the place. Obviously can't get a top rating because of the beer range but everyone should go here at least once.

20 Oct 2007 12:14

The Jack Horner, Tottenham Court Road

Was in here last night, second pub of a mini crawl. Main range of Fullers on I was told, I didn't go to the bar to check. Pint of Discovery was perfectly acceptable. Good pub for Central London and useful meeting place before gigs at the Astoria.

20 Oct 2007 12:10

The Stags Head, Fitzrovia

A pub fairly near work I hadn't been in before. Hogs Back TEA and Pride were on, nothing else of note worth drinking. This was just after the Russia v England game and the sound was at ear splitting volume. From a short stay an average pub but the TEA was nice to see.

17 Oct 2007 22:12

The Hole In The Wall, Waterloo

Popped in tonight to pass some time during train delays at Waterloo. GK IPA and Abbot, Youngs Ordinary, Hogs Back TEA, Sharp's Doom Bar and Adnams Bitter of which I partook of a reasonable pint. Previous times they have had one or two Twickenham beers but two pumps off tonight. Real ales together with Paulaner Original Munchener and Weisse, Star and Leffe (blonde I assume) make this a place well worth a visit. Revels in its grottiness!

Wellesley, Waterloo

Probably the best place on the station if you want real ale although you are better off going to the Hole In The Wall. Normally Pride and Young's and maybe another. I expect it has improved since the smoking ban.

The Reef Bar, Waterloo

Does what it says on the tin. At least they have Pride on normally. Best is to sit on the balcony so you can see your train come up. Although I did once manage to miss two trains by leaving too late until I went down to the platform. OK, can't rate this place too highly but it will always have a special place for me after I somehow managed to take a young hottie I had directed to the right line at Warren Street in here for a glass of wine. Spent a very pleasant 20 minutes observing parts of her pert young body.

Bonapartes, Waterloo

This is not a pub! It is a bar. No real ale and no bottles worth drinking. Just about good enough for a rushed drink after work but nothing more.

17 Oct 2007 21:29

The Crown, Islington

Shocked to see this place rated so low! Dropped in for a quick one after seeing Kate Walsh at the Union Chapel. Chiswick, Pride, ESB and a very tasty Mr Harry on draught and Discovery and Golden Pride in bottles. The latter at a ridiculously cheap 2.25 or so according to the price list written up. Not sure I can believe it when they had Paulaner Weisse listed at 4.50. OK maybe it's overpriced and the food list looked noncy but certainly worth a trip for the beer and architecture.

The Compton Arms, Islington

Visited here on 16 October prior to seeing top acoustic artiste Kate Walsh at the Union Chapel. Very nice little pub serving Tom Wood's County Bomber in addition to Ridley's (aka GK) Old Bob and the usual two GK beers.

Food in the evening two and recommended if you are in the area.

The Blackfriar, Blackfriars

Stopped in here for one last night on the way back to Blackfriars station. They normally have 3 or 4 on, usual stuff with the odd unusual one. Last night I tried the Bateman's Valiant which was OK. I noticed that they had Weston's Perry on too.

Nothing special for beer but you will always get some real ale.

The Old Bank of England, Fleet Street

Popped in tonight to tick it off in the 2008 GBG. Had a pint of Chiswick which was ok but nothing on the ones I had in the Andover Arms when Saints played QPR. I quite like this place, roomy and high ceilinged. Beer standard Fullers, was hoping for a seasonal. Worth a visit.

9 Oct 2007 00:28

The City Retreat, Holborn

Visited here tonight playing darts for London Saints (lost 9 - 2). Ordinary, Special and Bombardier on, nothing to write home about. Average pub, take it or leave it.

Coach and Horses, Fleet Street

Play pool and darts here with London Saints. Normally only either GK IPA or Abbot, sometimes both if you are "lucky". Only real reason to visit is for the visually impressive barmaids.

7 Oct 2007 22:05

The Green Man, Great Portland Street

This pub is fairly local to work. Have 5 handpumps but rarely all on. A couple of times recently they only had GK IPA. Usual suspects of Bombardier, 6X, Pride etc. Black Sheep Bitter too. Reasonable without being spectacular, normally find staff are ok.

Quinn's, Camden

Have been here a couple of times now, latest was on Friday night 5 October. Both times they have had two guest ales that I hadn't tried before. Was a little upsetting on the first occasion to ask for a pint of 1648 and get a 1664! Not 100% convinced of real ale quality. The main thing of course is the foreign beer and have had success in getting a lager drinker to try something decent. Gave him a Westmalle Tripel the first time and he liked it so much he asked for it the next time. Somehow ended up with a Dubbel but he liked that too. Haven't experienced any rudeness from the staff, in fact the person I assume is Quinn jnr was helpful in trying to sort out tables for us when we were in a large group.

Worth a visit and I suspect we will be back, hopefully before too long.

The Doric Arch, Euston

Haven't been here very recently but seeing as I am rounding up some reviews I will do this one. Apart from the Fullers they often have Hophead, usually Batemans Mild, Summer Lightning and Castle Rock Harvest Pale. Either this or Bree Louise are the places to go if you are killing time at Euston. I like this place. Food ok too.

7 Oct 2007 21:10

The Bree Louise, Euston

Have been here a few times now, latest was 27 September. Usually at least five beers on the go, often Adnams and Sharp's. Normally find something I haven't had before. Food good too. Recommended.

The Crown and Anchor, Euston

Visited here on 4 October. I believe it has been refitted since I was last here. Looks like they have followed the example of the Albany in Great Portland Street as far as te beer goes. Black Sheep Better and GK IPA on draught together with one of the Weston's ciders. Some foreign beers including Star, Erdinger, Budvar Dark and Apple Bocq. They seemed to have a problem with full measures and worrying when an admittedly inexperienced barman tried to put ice cubes in my Chimay Red. Not bad, could do a lot worse.

7 Oct 2007 21:01

Mabel's Tavern, Euston

Came here after a visit to Sheffield with London Saints. Nice little pub but I'm just not sre about the Shephern Neame beers. Had the Late Red and Master Brew and neither set the world alight. To be fair I'd already had about 7 pints and had been to the Devonshire Cat so maybe not a good time to rate it. Worth a visit though.

7 Oct 2007 20:54

The Devonshire Cat, Sheffield

Visited here with London Saints on 29 September. Walked in and it was like an Aladdin's Cave of beer. Had the Jaipur IPA which was superb and three ohers. Nice to see a beer list on the table, fantastic range of foreign beer and on draught too. Food excellent too. Coming from London can't fault the prices. Minor gripe is the Wetherspoons feel to the place but based on the beer this place is top class.

7 Oct 2007 20:51

The Masons Arms, Fitzrovia

Pub closest to work and have drunk a lot in here. Landlord was always exceptional, other ales were Ordinary and Pedigree. Only problem is that the last two times they had no ale on at all! Thai food worth sampling. If the Landlord is on then stay, otherwise a walk to the Bree Louise/Doric Arch is recommended.

25 Sep 2007 21:37

The Albany, Great Portland Street

This place is close to work for me. Probably the best of the very local pubs, good draught foreign beers - including Liefmans Frambozen, Franziskaner and Scneider Weisse, Paulaner Original Munchen and dark Budvar. A couple of real ales usually on too. Reasonable atmosphere, main drawback is the price. Worth a visit.

25 Sep 2007 21:33

The Pembury Tavern, Hackney

Good Beer Guide had arrived and so had the latest edition of What's Brewing which said that this place had been nominated for cider pub of the year. Trekked up and was blown away by the beer range, absolutely fantastic. Tried 4 of the Milton beers and also a half of cider and all top quality.

Only negatives are that from the outside it's easy to miss as it doesn't really look like a pub. Also as I walked in I thought I was back at school as it has a hall feel to it. Only 20 or so people in there on a Saturday night which is a crying shame although good for ordering. Was my by myself but got talking to others at the bar and will definitely be going back, probably for the beer fest in November.

As I rate pubs on ale this really can't be faulted.

25 Sep 2007 21:05

The Guide Dog, Bevois Valley

I would nominate the Guide Dog asmy local despite living in Epsom! Brilliant range of well kept beer, only regular is ESB with 6 constantly changing. Rare not to pick up something new. Very friendly, all you could want in a "drinkers" pub.
