This is an Ember Inns establishment that was busy due to an event on the nearby common. As usual, it follows the identikit design of the chain's pubs. Ember Pale Ale was accompanied by London Pride, Tribute & Ghost Ship. There were plenty of families and quite a few diners. A little disappointing. blue_scrumpy - 8 Jun 2019 20:17 |
Up until recently good but Landlady left having increased trade and beer choice dramatically. Rapid downhill travel due to recent atrocious management. jeffdaff - 18 Oct 2014 14:51 |
Have been using this pub and restraurant for many years and until recently have rated it as very good. However, it has good down in recent months. The two for £10 meals are pretty meagre and not good. Yesterday, we asked the barman to turn the music down. It was early afternoon and very few customers in. He was very obliging but the manageress told him to turn it up again although she knew we had asked otherwise. Plus points are beer ok, although not cheap and staff alwyas friendly. Overall, a good pub but on the slide. surrey_sailor - 7 May 2013 22:52 |
Recently called in for a pint and a bite to eat mid afternoon. Ok pint of London Pride, would have had the forty-niner but I was driving. Staff friendly enough, and I was offered a try before you buy sample of a real ale, We had two good value meals for 8. Only complaint was that they took a while to arrive, not sure why as the pub was pretty much empty. Barman talked a load of nonsense about real ales. All very clean. I have use the Woodman 2 or 3 times a month for the past 5 years, during th day and in the evening, and have never encountered anything but pleasant and helpful staff. Range of beers is probably more than average, and kept well. I have had the occasional "end of barrel" opint but always changed willingly and without fuss. Food and drinks are good value. My only complaint is that sometimes the food is a bit slow in arriving. If anyone has doubts about this pub, just look at the trade it does throughout the day and evening. surrey_sailor - 18 Sep 2010 22:15 |
