Traditional small corner pub in the Bedford Place heart of the Southampton Student Triangle. Two rooms. Walk through the front room to the slightly larger back room. Six casks available. Advertises that it does food (pies) on Thursdays and match days, though reviews indicate it does food all week - perhaps I misread the sign, but there were no menus out. New owner took over in April, buying it for £600,000, and saying he doesn't want to change anything, and isn't going to run it himself. Was very quiet on my afternoon visit, but apparently does get busy and loud in the evenings. Pleasant enough place. Very pleasant and welcoming barmaid. I liked it, and can see myself coming back to check out the local beers, though there was something missing that I couldn't quite put my finger on. There was a lack of warmth, character and atmosphere, though that could be because the place was so quiet. Would be worth visiting when it's a bit busier to get a real feel for the place. Excellent Pub, has a traditional English pub feel. the beers are always in good condition and there is a good selection to choose from. Brewdog's Punk IPA has recently been added to this list. Garimoth - 5 Dec 2015 17:30 |
Inn here early last Saturday afternoon and a few others present. This place has a mostly wooden interior with flowers on the tables. Some loud piped music is playing. They have 7 hand pulls 5 for ale and 2 for cider. I had a nice pint of Red Cat Brewery Prowler Pale Ale for £3.30. bjbrummiejohn - 11 Aug 2014 12:50 |
A basic town centre pub with two ciders and six varying real ales, the beer was in good condition, not up to the standard of the Wellington or the Waterloo ( both ten minutes west of here) but well worth a visit. Rather dark and on the small side and a "lived in " look. slerpy - 29 May 2013 14:59 |
Backstreet pub that is fairly handy for the football ground. Although most customers didn't seem to be there for the football. Quick service and meals were being served. The naan and curry looked good value - £1.99 I believe. Beers on were Stonehenge Pigswill, Keystone Bedrock Bitter, Saxon Archer & White Horse Bitter & Dragon Hill. A dark beer wouldn't have gone a miss. The cider was Orchard Pig Explorer and the perry was Gwynt y Ddraig Two Trees. Another recommended establishment to sample in Southampton. blue_scrumpy - 22 Jan 2013 22:48 |
