Dorking is a pretty miserable place. If you go to Dorking station this is the first pub to come across, an average pub, not bad overall with a couple of good real ales. It is probably the best pub in dorking but its still not amazing.

We were first impressed by this place a while ago when the Olympics cycle race passed by and they were dispensing hot food from a stall outside. That day we couldn't stop but wanted to go back and sample the pub properly which we did this weekend. It's a rambling place; has shades of maybe once being a Railway/Station hotel in a former life and indeed still does accommodation. Although rambling we felt at home and it has a nice atmosphere. Just 2 ales were on, Hobgoblin and Shere Drop. We both had the latter and it was in excellent condition. Given that the other places in Dorking don't seem to suit us for one reason or another we may need go no further than the approach to the railway station in future.

For BarrySW19's attention. He is quite right we do do a good drop of Sheer Drop along with many other local ales which we like to support and have recently been awarded Cask Marque Accreditation in June.

Perhaps BarrySW19 was unaware Euro 2012 was on, hence our patriotic flags in support of England! NOT as any affiliation with the EDL. I suppose we could always fly the united colours of Benetton, Barry would probably find that far more politically correct.

Quite frankly I have never been more underwhelmed with such a short sighted, blinkered rating regarding our pub, it's atmosphere and it's happy clientle ....so run along Barry, Tony Blair is looking for a new PC spin doctor!

We would encourage people to make up their own minds as many of these 'reviews' are outdated as we are now under new management and the pub totally refurbished. If you do visit and you find something is wrong then please let us know at the time and we will do the best we can to rectify it so your time spent here is as enjoyable as possible, the New Management.

Unfortunately a bit of a dive. Full of England flags (you wonder which corner the EDL recruiting office might be hiding in). Lots of football and lads drinking Jaegermeister and Red Bull.

Shame, because it's also the closest pub to the Surrey Hills brewery and did do a good pint of Shere Drop but it's not going to make the Good Beer Guide any time soon.

I was really hoping this pub would rise above it's 'next to the station and bound to be mediocre' tag. I'd like to say it did, but i'd be lying. Different TV's and music conflicting with each other, chavvy, and just not comfortable or homely. Sure it's been given a lick of paint but really it just feels like one of those 'passing trade' places. On the plus side, the pool tables are in good nick. The jukebox is the most convoluted i've ever come across, but then it also has more music on it than is in most peoples' entire collection. Bar staff nice enough, just a mediocre pub unlikley to ever rise above its position.
