A Saturday in Hartlepool for football with the Causeway being our first port of call. This is lovely multi roomed pub with a nice interior in the Stranton area of town which is a short walk away from the train station.

Original stained glass windows, wooden flooring throughout, separate snug area, pool table, music from the juke box, television’s on silent…..this pub has it all.

Apparently Cameron’s Strongarm is the biggest seller here even though it’s not a Cameron’s pub, so popular it’s on 2 of the 4 hand pumps with Banks Bitter & a real cider on the others.

We stayed for 2 pints before moving on, a tick from the GBG and a very nice pub that’s worth the short walk from town.

Well we weren't planning to visit the Causeway. But with the Fishermans Arms closed, we moved down to the town centre to make this our final pub. And it didn't disappoint. The picture you see above appears to show the pub with a shop next to it. But in fact, both premises are part of the pub, as the bar extends into the neighbouring property. A musician was playing. We retreated to one of the splendid side rooms. One has traditional décor, the other is a little different. There is also a small outdoor area to the rear. This feels like a really good town pub and despite being a Marstons pub, it serves Strongarm from the neighbouring Camerons brewery. Banks's Bitter & Ringwood Boon Doggle accompanied it. Not a bad way to finish our 21 pub crawl of Cumbria & Durham.

"That's what you get up north".
The froth is for the whippet, or to dip our break and dripping in.

Marstons pub serving all the other branded ales such as Camerons, Wychwood, Banks's and Jennings. Ridiculous head on the Strongarm, really deserved a flake, but that's what you get up north. Friendly pub and worth a visit.

Nice local pub. Probably my favourite in the town.
