I'd forgotten that I'd had the Black Bull Bitter before so I drank it again last Friday lunchtime having been told it had not been brewed since the beginning of the pandemic. My pint wasn't quite as good as the one I'd just had next door at the Black Sheep Brewery but was nevertheless still of a high standard.

Live folk music in the taproom last Thursday meant that we spent most of our evening in Masham here. I stuck to the Black Bull Bitter which I don't recall ever having tried before. As expected, it was in excellent condition. A fine way to end our Masham night out.

Last July I posted complimentary comments about this pub.Well,a lot can change over eight months.
My wife and I visited again on Easter Monday and we received the same warm welcome as last time-the beer was equally good, but the food was absolutely abyssmal!
After nondescript starters my wife had the roast beef and I chose the steak and ale pie.
I suspect that the beef was left from the previous day-it was stone cold, which was not intended I'm sure.
The steak pie was cut from a tray and the crust was burnt black and covered in dried up gravy.
All in all, very disappointing-although we are regular visitors to Masham we will not be returning to The White Bear.

Had lunch here after visiting the excellent bar at Theakston's Visitor Centre.
Inevitably the beer was in perfect condition, but we were surprised by the quality of the food which, for it's price was very good.
The staff were friendly, efficient and helpful, particularly in providing my wife with the recipe for the delicious black pudding hotpot!
We shall certainly visit again when in the area.

Very disappointing visit to The White Bear @ Masham today. Main food was very good, i.e. steak and ale pie, pasta bake and scampi. However, the salad was very poor with one lettuce leaf and one tomato with no dressing and the chips were frozen! The garden peas were dry and hard! Most good country Inns serve proper chips!

The lady who waited on us was miserable and unpleasant and made us feel bad because we asked for tartar sauce as well as tomato ketchup! She made a loud comment about us wanting both On serving the food she did ask the whole table if we wanted any sauces but walked away while we answered-hence the two journeys that seemed to upset her.

At the end of our meal the emergency door in the restaurant area was wide open-we asked for it to be closed because we were freezing due to the ice cold wind tunnel from the door but were told that the outside tables were being brought in! On bringing the tables in the staff decided to rearrange the dining room and at that stage we decided to leave due to the noise of tables being scraped around the room and staff shouting instruction to each other-very unpleasant environment.

We are regulars to The White Bear and hopefully this particular days complaint is a one off! However it has to stay as a one off as any more complaints of this nature will result in us all going elsewhere for lunch!

Also, being Christmas and the weather outside was cold wet and windy we were all surprised that a mulled wine was not offered for sale.
