Very nice village pub serving good beer. Normally has 3 Thwaites ales on handpull of which Thwaites Nutty Black was superb on my last visit. I think they do food but I haven't eaten there as yet.
The bus stop for the 555 Lakeslink bus service is just outside the door.

Hotel with public bar attached. Serves good home cooked food and good beer. Usually has 2 well kept real ales on.
Nearest railway station is Haworth on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway which is about a 10 minute walk.

Devonshire Arms, Burton-Upon-Trent
Went into the Devenshire today for the first time in about 2 years.
To lass behind the bar informed me that they'd stoped serving food about 12 months ago which is a real shame. Some of the seat coverings were looking a little tired bit this didn't detracked from the fine pint BB Porter that I had.

Avoid!!!!
3.40 for a pint of Speckled Hen!!!!!!!
Daylight robbery!!!!!!!!!!!

Beer and food was good but as per usual with Spoons it could have done with another couple of staff behind the bar.

Went in on Sunday & the roast beef was very good, the pint of Lancaster Black was spot on.

Yes that's the end. A friend of mine has seen them carrying out some of the fixtures & fittings.
Another one of Kendal's classic pubs bites the dust.
The Cock & Dolphin R.I.P.

The Sheaf now has very well kept Hawkshead Bitter on now as well as the mediocre Taylors Landlord. The food is still very good as usuall.

Whoop Hall Hotel, Kirkby Lonsdale
I was there just before Christmas on do with mates from work.
Good food served from carvery so you could get as much as you wanted and a good pint of Black Sheep. Green King IPA was also on.
It's not somewhere I would go for a sech but is a good place to go for a meal to book for a party etc.

The Fox and Hounds, Starbotton
I must have been in on a good day because the beer & the food was alright but I did think the food was a bit expensive for what it was.
13 Oct 2009 02:38
A couple of reasonably kept ales on but was busy & noisy with the football being shown on the big screen.
13 Oct 2009 02:31
Good selection of well kept ales. I like the heated outside seating area!!!!
13 Oct 2009 02:28
Good pub with well kept beer. The food is very good but the menu is more like a restaurant rather than traditional pub grub
13 Oct 2009 02:23
Nice little pub. The beer is quite good considering its on an air pressure system rather than hand pull.
13 Oct 2009 02:13
Not a bad pub, beer was reasonable. Food was alright but there was only the Sunday Roasts available when I was in because we were told the Chef had gone sick.
Apart from the volume on the TV was a bit loud for my liking all in all not bad.
13 Oct 2009 02:09
It's aright but no real ale. It's not somewhere I would go out of my way to go to.
2 Jun 2009 11:35
I was back in the other night and things seemed to back to normal and the beer quite good. Probably just a temporary blip.

I was last in November when I was staying at the Premier Inn The George In the Tree up the road.
This is a real locals pub with open fire, friendly people and good ale. The pint of Adnams Broadside was excellent. This place comes fully recommended.

I was in again last night (Easter Monday) as part of a large party. I have to take my hat off to the excellent staff for accommodating us as they had other bookings, one of which was another large party. It was as busy as I've ever seen it but they seemed to cope with everybody.

I'm quite regularly in the Castle and I think the beer is not being as well kept as it use to be.
Also I feel that its starting to loose its friendly atmosphere.
14 Apr 2009 18:45
Nice little pub and excellent beer. Well worth it if you can cope with the walk up Beastbanks!!!!!
26 Feb 2009 16:06
Good pub and good beer but I wasnt that impressed with the food. The meat in the steak pie was a bit leathery.
7 Jan 2009 09:31
Its good to see another pub in the centre of town serving good real ale and also a pub that has a bit of a different selection of ales to the ones you usually see o

Not bad for a Spoons which unusually had sufficient bar staff to cope with demand. Food was of reasonable quality. Not a bad selection of reasonability good ale. The one thing which lets this place down is the Atmospheric Lighting because in certain places you can barely see what you are doing.

George in the Tree, Balsall Common
This place is not great by any means!!!
They had 2 real ales on; Pedigree and Banks. We were told on the Friday night that they had run out and were not going to get a delivery until Monday. The following night they were back on!! We only found out about this after we had order pints of Tetleys!!! I was not happy, Tetleys - yuck!!
Another thing which went down like a brick parachute when we found out was that the bar and the Restaurant have different menus!!!!
The one in the bar is far better! Its cheaper as well!!!!! The restaurant menu is expensive for what you get which is the same quality of food as served in the bar. I would say that the general quality of the food is just below Weatherspoons standard.
The George in the Tree is tied onto the Premier Inn next door and is used to serve breakfast to the hotel guests. The organisation of the breakfast service is slow and poor with wrong orders being regularly brought out and on top of that the breakfasts arent that good anyway.

I echo the Mintyboom but the only criticism I have is I wish they would change the Timothy Taylors, its the only beer on hand pull and it doesnt travel well. Other than that a welcoming and friendly pub with excellent home cooked food.
Excellent!!!!
Well worth a visit.
13 Sep 2008 16:46
Dont forget the bald abusive old man sat near the bar!!!!
13 Sep 2008 16:31
The best place in Kendal town centre for real ale!
Well worth a visit!
10 Sep 2008 19:47
If you want cheap beer (dont expect any real ale) its the place to go but other than that its Awful!!!
Having said that the Last Orders does serve a purpose! With its prices being just that little bit cheaper it keeps most of the undesirables out of Weatherspoons next door!
10 Sep 2008 19:31
I detest this place No real ale, thumping loud music, low ceilings (It was awful before the smoking ban came in) and one of the most expensive pints in Kendal!
Awful!
10 Sep 2008 18:39
I havent been in yet but The Cock & Dolphin has now reopened.
10 Sep 2008 18:31
Nice big comfortable leather benches and chairs and a good selection of very good beer.
Well worth a visit.

The Great Western, Wolverhampton
Very strange indeed!!!
I went in on Sunday in between changing trains and the pub its self hasnt changed but I didnt recognise the staff behind the bar. I couldnt fault the beer which was as good as ever but no food except butties in this glass fronted fridge and titbits on the bar. As I wanted a proper cooked meal I was not pleased!
2 Jul 2008 06:47
A great pub with fantastic views across the bay serving very good beer. Mostly St Austell brews which I couldnt fault a very nice pint indeed. Well worth a visit.

Devonshire Arms, Burton-Upon-Trent
Went in on Saturday, excellent beer from the Burton Bridge Brewery but I was very disappointed they werent serving food that Saturday lunchtime. Quite a few people walked in and walked straight out once they found out there was no food on! The lass behind the bar was very pleasant and apologetic. Ive eaten there before and food was very good.

Mr Foley's Cask Ale House, Leeds
This place was much better when it was OKells.
The beer is still as good but the food isnt. The menu has gone all fancy (what happened to the huge chunky chip butties?). I was last in a few months ago and the only thing that I found appealing on the menu was burger & chips which wasnt bad but could have been better.
28 May 2008 20:46
Just going on the merits of the two Hawkshead ales that are usually on its worth a visit but it has no atmosphere and awful tables & chairs. The decor is very white, bright & clinical with the odd plant here & there.
The two Hawksheads that are on are excellent. The Castle round the corner has a Hawkshead on from time to time.
28 May 2008 19:21
Its been closed and boarded up now for about 3 to 4 months or so now (if not longer). It was closed supposedly for refurbishment after the last landlord jacked in (who took over from a landlord who had the Cock for several years previously) but there has been no sign of anything been happening. Its a shame really because it was a nice little pub and I was a regular at lunchtimes when I was at the college up the road. When it was open it served one or two good real ales but I have to say I never tried the food. Hopefully it will reopen soon.
28 May 2008 18:50
No it isnt time to stop!
Its alright but its not a Quality pub & YES I do go else where and certainly not to Barrow!!!!!! As for toilets I take it youre referring to the Last Orders next door!! Another quality pub, NOT!
As for the beer which isnt usually too bad, I recently went in had a pint of Jennings Sneck Lifter. It was foul!!!!!
The staff them selves arent a problem they are all usually very pleasant. The problem is the small number of staff they have on when the place is busy. You can be stood in the scrum at the bar for ages waiting to be served. And as for being busy; its only busy because people usually meet up there before going elsewhere and because its cheap, besides the small area around the bar doesnt help matters.
17 May 2008 11:57
The Old Joint Stock, Birmingham
Always very busy but it was never a scrum.
The Fullers Chiswick was a nice pint. I didnt have a problem with the staff but they looked miserable.
10 May 2008 20:36
Usual textbook Weatherspoons. The beer was ok, the place was scruffy and the tables needed a good wiping down. I dont think any of them will do any harm, but there seems to be lots dodgy and weird characters in there.
10 May 2008 20:28
It's alright but it was full of football fans who a bit rowdy at the time I was there.
Reasonable selection of real ales on and a good place to wait between trains, Ive seen worse.
10 May 2008 20:14
This I have to say is one of the best pubs I've visited in Carlisle. Friendly staff, a very good pint of Yates bitter and the food is excellent. I had steak & ale pie which was about 5.25 and it was beautiful!
Well worth a visit.
10 May 2008 19:59
Its one of the better spoons have been to, not too busy and every one seemed well behaved. The beer was above average spoons quality and the food was also above spoons average quality as well. Service was fairly quick but as per usual for a Weatherspoons they could have done with a couple more serving behind the bar.
2 Apr 2008 00:52
Excellent small pub, serves excellent ale. Full range of Taylors on plus a couple of guest ales on as well. Its about the best pint of Taylors Ive ever had.
Good friendly atmosphere and just down the road from Keighley Railway Station.
Its a must if youre visiting Keighley.
26 Mar 2008 02:46
One of the better Spoons Ive been to. The food was of usual spoons standard, the beer was of usual spoons standard as well (slightly flat). The staff were pleasant.
On the whole not bad.
26 Mar 2008 02:24
The restoration work has been carried out very well and the partitions that have been added have been very nicely made and in keeping with the original style of the place. But I can see problems when it gets very busy or trying to meet up with a friend with all the little cubby holes people can hide in.
But on the whole a job well done.
The quality of the beer is still consistently good as ever.
26 Mar 2008 01:50
Very good pub, one of these nice pubs off the beaten track thats not crowded, you can relax on one of the sofas with pint.
With a wide selection of 8 real ales on I could have spent all day in there going through them all.
Most definitely worth a visit.
26 Mar 2008 01:23
Very nice pub with open fire and friendly staff. Also has a good sized dinning room as well serving very good food (The steak & ale pie and the hot chocolate fudge cake come fully recommended).
Had a good selection of about 5 well kept real ales on.
The Maypole is right next to the busy A65 but noise of traffic is minimal but easy to find & well worth a pit stop if youre passing.
26 Mar 2008 01:05
Not a bad pub. A huge range of ales that are from small micro breweries, many of which I haven't seen before.
I didn't think they served a really bad pint but its one of these pubs that don't have sparkle's on the hand pumps which is probably why the beer can be a little flat.
5 Jan 2008 22:15
The Great Western, Wolverhampton
Top pub and Top pint. The food was very good. Nothing fancy, good tasty home cooked food at fair price. 10 min walk from the railway station.
Well worth a visit.
5 Jan 2008 21:56
The White Lion, Hampton in Arden
Nice little pub with good ale. The food served in the bar was very good but 8.95 for fish & chips I thought was a little steep but it was very good never the less.
Birmingham International is not the nearest railway station to the White Lion.
The White Lion is only 10 min walk from Hampton-in-Arden station, one stop to the south of Birmingham International served by the local service every half an hour.
5 Jan 2008 21:51
I absolutely agree with the previous comment, its awful and its usually full of alcopop swilling teenagers!
28 Nov 2007 01:20
Not a bad pub for a Wetherspoons. The food was above average Wetherspoons quality. Not a great number of real ales on compared to the number of pumps, usual Wetherspoons selection: Pedigree, Abbot etc.....
11 Oct 2007 00:48
Great pub, Its an old building with very interesting decor, no plastic! I am great fan of the confessionals but they always seem to be full and the beer is very good.
I know peoples tastes are different but Sam Smiths beer is very consistent in quality unlike some others!
20 Aug 2007 22:59
Its all right to have quiet drink at lunchtime/afternoon but it gets very busy at night. It can be like a scrum down stairs at the bar after 19:00!!
The food wasnt too bad when it first opened but it has really gone down hill of late. But all in all its a textbook Wetherspoons, not enough bar staff and its route march to the bogs.
6 Aug 2007 23:41
A very nice pub with friendly staff and well kept ale. Excellent!!

The Crossways Inn, Gretna
Called in on the way home and was disappointed to find no handpumps, no food on & the public bar side of place was very noisy. Also there were 'to let' signs outside and It looks like it's being run down a bit at the moment.
