Pleasant traditional pub in a city where cafe bars are prevalent. Nothing special but worth a visit. hollybush33 - 11 Nov 2019 16:35 |
This place was dead on an early Friday evening and the selection of beers was pretty poor tbh. It lacked any kind of atmosphere or vibe. The bar lady with the bleached hair needs a lesson in customer service too. littledrummerboy - 26 Feb 2018 15:45 |
Pub number 5 for me was the King's Head back in the town centre. It is situated in a nice street within the main shopping area. With all the shops closed, the pub still had plenty of punters and was the best pub I'd visited thus far. Ales were Yates's Golden Ale & Bitter, Arbor Oz Bomb & Ilkley Fireside Porter. Unusually for Carlisle pubs, it also had a cider - Rosie's Pig. I later found that the pub has just started offering a CAMRA discount. But it wasn't offered to this CAMRA member. Neverthless, the interior has plenty of character with plenty of old beams. There's no mobile phone reception - probably a good thing. Not the best pub in Carlisle. But it's up there. blue_scrumpy - 2 Feb 2016 21:11 |
Still being refurbished. More ales than Howard though. ArhurPint - 12 Oct 2014 11:47 |
Hadn't read previous reviews but was pleased to find this pub yesterday with its good selection of ales. Eden's Ruswarp, Yates Bitter, Anarchy's Quiet Riot and Tiny Rebel's Full Nelson were on sale yesterday as well as Gwynt y Ddraig Fiery Fox and Farmhouse Scrumpy and bottled Old Mout cider. We sat outside in the enclosed courtyard rather than the wooden beamed pub. Service was slightly sullen, I will blame the hot weather....... paul_d102 - 26 Jul 2014 19:55 |
