The Maypole certainly deserves its high BITE rating. OK, it is not perfect by any means, but the beer, the food and the staff are all excellent. Three hand pulls were available – Black Sheep, Copper Dragon Bitter and J.W.Lees Bitter. I did not try the Black Sheep but my pints of the other two were tip top. The food was pretty good too. The steak and ale pie with homemade chips and mushy peas was yummy. steve2905 - 21 Sep 2015 03:35 |
Was open when I passed by recently. Didn't have chance to call in though. RealAleRobUK - 17 Feb 2015 15:22 |
Closed today, there was a notice on the door which I did not bother to read. Perhaps a temporary closure? RealAleRobUK - 18 Nov 2014 19:24 |
I first visited, and reviewed this pub in November 2010, and after completing my second successful completion of the Three Peaks, I tried it again, however this time, things were not so good. The pub is the same, however matters were let down in both food and beer. Whilst the pub still offers a good selection of real ale, my choice of Moorhouses Pride of Pendle was cloudy and tasted off, perhaps this was a one off but still not pleasant. I ordered their Pie, which was okay, however to expect a fully grown adult to be satisfied with just four new potatoes and a small amount of veg is asking a little too much. I recall my last visit included ample food, so something has changed here, I left the pub hungry, and not particularly impressed. SouthYorkshireman - 19 Apr 2014 17:40 |
We booked and stayed at the Maypole arriving Thursday 21 and departing Saturday 23 June 2012 with our choice entirely based on the reviews below this proved a very wise move indeed as this is an absolute gem of a pub - excellent ale, excellent food, extremely friendly locals and a very warm welcome from the staff who really couldnt do enough for us. Sadly our attempt at the 3 Peaks was thwarted by extraordinarily inclement weather (I couldve sworn I saw the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse galloping over the summit of Ingleborough but I digress), nevertheless this proved an ideal venue to dry out on the outside and get suitably damp on the inside we look forward to returning for a rematch. tim_eyles - 27 Jun 2012 14:56 |
