The Clachan, Soho

It really is quite ironic that the members who really give a shit about this site , either get their posts deleted or membership revoked whilst the garbage that appears on here on a daily basis largely remains on view. Good move guys.

Albion, Thetford

The original TV series of Dads Army was filmed in and around Thetford. They cast and crew made this their watering hole of choice. At the end of each of the nine series , huge drinking sessions took place here. On one occasion Ian Lavender ( Private Pike ) got so drunk he nutted Arnold Ridley ( Private Godfrey ) and fell asleep standing at the bar. Stupid bo

The Grenadier, Belgravia

Supposedly one of the most haunted pubs in Britain. It is said to be haunted by the ghost of a soldier who was beaten to death and thrown down a stairwell after he was found to be cheating at a game of cards. A bit harsh.

Talbot Arms, Dorchester

The Talbot was a breed of dog which existed in the middle ages but became extinct some time ago, it was a white dog and and a type of hound that died out several hundred years ago. Its origin is unclear but it is mentioned by Chaucer and there are suggestions that the breed was introduced to this country by William the Conquerer although this is disputed.

The Hungarian national football team made this their local before and after their 6-3 thrashing of England at Wembley in 1953. Ye Olde Cock Tavern, Fleet Street

Unlike Samuel Pepys (who visited in April 1668 with the actress Mrs Knipp, where he “drank, ate a lobster, and sang, and mighty merry”) I walked in , had a pint , a look around and left unimpressed.

4 May 2017 21:21

The Baroque Period. Derived from the Portuguese barroco, or “oddly shaped pearl,” the term “baroque” has been widely used since the nineteenth century to describe the period in Western European art music from about 1600 to 1750. This is more of a bar than a pub apparantly.

6 Mar 2017 21:02

The Carpenters Arms, Polzeath

Eddy? If I had to ask on two occasions I probably wouldn't have stayed for a third. To be honest though , to my eternal shame I rarely ask for a top up unless they really take the piss. Short measures seem to be the norm now in a lot of pubs.

Great smiley service and a nice laid back atmosphere.

Bob Dickens played his first gig here and Charles Dylan lived in the cellar.

17 Jun 2015 23:22

The Ship, Fitzrovia

Ok little corner pub. Only ale available was Doombar.

Blues music playing and the Vietnamese menu looked good.

Avoid between 5-7 as the obnoxious pay by card work work work tossers invade.

Good service.

17 Jun 2015 23:03

The Crown and Sceptre, Fitzrovia

And the staff are worse.

They serve beer. And fancy stuff.

7 Dec 2014 21:20

The Minerva Hotel, Hull

There is no moderation because no one is in control of this site. The ownership is. . . Let us say, in doubt at this moment. I find it amazing that any company would waste their money advertising on here. As would any member posting any reviews. The best pub review site on the internet just died. RIP BITE.

14 Nov 2014 23:48

The Monks Retreat, Reading

Whisky_diet? Just for that last post? There is no admin here or else you and your other false profiles would have been deleted. You are a cunt sir.

3 Sep 2013 23:49

Sir Michael Balcon, Ealing

Blimey! Not many pubs in these parts for the casual visitor. This one is ok. It's a Spoons and its cheap. Nice outside space. Poor ale selection. Staff indifferent. Ok is the best I can muster try as may.

16 Aug 2013 23:58

18 Jun 2013 23:53

The New Inn, Sutton

Anyone wanna a cheap Rolex? Bridalware?

8 Jun 2013 00:39

The Queen Adelaide, Shepherds Bush

Walked in. Eyes ran. Like being in a BBQ pit. Walked out. Eyes cleared.

7 Jun 2013 01:23

Princess Victoria, Shepherds Bush

Pricey. But really enjoyable visit. Lovely grand Victorian corner pub. Horseshoe shaped bar with separate dining room. Dominated by three impressive skylights. Very decadent feel, with friendly and attentive staff. Four pumps with Doombah , two from Sambrook's and something from Nelsons Brewery? Only bottled cider available on our visit alas. At £5 a bottle. Yikes! Sometimes it's worth it to pay a little more. A treat! Food menu looked scrummy but top end prices. I could feast for £2 down the Uxbridge Road. Will look forward to my next visit. For a drink. Oh. And The Greyhound is open again. Worth checking out.

7 Jun 2013 01:08

The Moon on the Hill, Sutton

Dragon. You are a terrible bore and I hate that I have to reply to you. Unfortunately BITE admin doesn't exist or you would have been deleted an age ago. Your childish comments are worse than the bridalware/ Rolex rubbish that has been appearing. Nobody wants to hear you. Nobody cares what you say. Your a bully and a coward. Now stop clogging up this site and run along.

The Case Is Altered, Eastcote

4 Jun 2013 23:52

Gravesend Boat, Gravesend

Been a member of this site for 9 years. It is now, sadly , a joke. No moderation. No admin. No anything. Other pub sites must be having a right old laugh.

2 Jun 2013 14:58

The British Queen, Shepherds Bush

I clocked this pub in a Saturday afternoon and thought I'd pay a visit in the evening. On the pretext of taking my mates dog for a walk I attempted to squeeze by the smokers at the door. " No fucking dogs allowed in here pal" was the most welcoming words I'd ever heard. I doffed my cap and ran.

1 Jun 2013 00:26

The Olive Tree, Jacobs Well

My point is, although the site is called Beer in the Evening, as the blurb says, it is also about eating and socialising . Some people go to the pub to drink. Some to eat. Some to get pissed. Some to merely socialise. Some to read even. It's not all about ale. There are many reasons to visit a pub , and those who visit are entitled to post a review. This does not necasseraly have to include listing all the beers on offer and their condition.

The Moon on the Hill, Sutton

Him? I was convinced Dragon was a woman. A bitter and twisted woman.

30 May 2013 18:12

Prince Arthur, Euston

Hehe. We had Sunday lunch here on the 19th May. Roast beef , and the veg ? Carrots and courgettes. Well, I think it was beef. So bad it was funny. Had a train to catch so couldn't be arsed to complain. Strangely would go back though. 3 - 4 ales on, cant recall what they were as I had an Aspalls . Best option in the vicinty methinks But not to eat.

28 May 2013 00:00

The Tower Tavern, Fitzrovia

That's one more than you figgy.

26 May 2013 19:31

The Greyhound, Shepherds Bush

Sorry. Brown tiled. My spell checker is colourblind

26 May 2013 19:03

The Greyhound, Shepherds Bush

Not bad. Nice Victorian corner pub. Lovely green tiled exterior, and quirky inside with lots of old electrical devices and a Vespa scooter on show. Very comfortable with a laid back relaxing atmosphere. Only one hand pump offering Greyhound something. Our pint of Guinness and a bottle of Kopparberg came to £7.50. Reasonable. Guinness was good. Lovely sun trap out back. As mentioned before, the majority of the clientel seemed to be from the hostel above. But as these were mostly blonde, female and friendly, this was no hardship. Sound.

Lonely Bully Society?

17 May 2013 19:39

The Charles Dickens, Southwark

I agree with your general sentiments , but on my visits I have found this a sound and solid boozer.

12 May 2013 00:36

'Round midnight Jazz & Blues Bar, Islington

The King William IV, Mickleham

Yawn.

30 Sep 2012 18:05

Bar @ TCR, london

Come on then Frank. Give us a question! .

30 Aug 2012 21:40

The Glass Works, Angel, Islington

Right. Ok. It's a Wetherspoons. It's in a shopping centre. It doesnt have a great choice of ales. And it should be shite. But it's not bad. Its really not . Three visits in 5 days Big windows , friendly staff , quick service and the best Spoons grub I've had. Fair choice of ciders available during their festival. Particularly Hogans and a Sandfords ginger cider among others.
Only visited in the afternoon so not sure how the night pans out. Didn't once hear anyone swear. Or sing. Good.

14 Jul 2012 00:55

The Shakespeare, Victoria

That's sarcastic.

12 Jul 2012 09:28

The Temple Bar, Walworth

Now a Poundland. And the Beaten Path across the road is now the Buy and Buy supermarket. Tsk.

10 Jul 2012 14:13

The Pen and Wig, Nuneaton

I drank here when this was an Ansells pub. Remember the squirrel motif? Awfull beer ! Now Reflex .An 80s retro fun pikey scrap pit.

30 Jun 2012 00:27

Browns Cafe Bar, Coventry

Whilst totally agreeing with all the recent posts about this shithole I last visited about 5 years or so ago, let us not forget that they have employed an aggressive and unashamedly transparent racist door policy for years. I have witnessed this. And also let us not forget this is not the only bar / pub that has a non uniform policy. Shame on them all.

28 Jun 2012 00:04

The Old Shades, Whitehall

I always get this place mixed up with the Market Porter. Can't imagine why.

18 Jun 2012 19:49

The Coach and Horses, Whitstable

Too true landormick . Let's keep humour and satire where it belongs ! .

13 Jun 2012 00:10

The Priory, Littlemore

Ok guys. Knock it off. We get the message.

12 Jun 2012 19:27

The Somerstown Coffee House, Euston

Worst meal I've never paid for. They have got so much wrong. Dirty plates. Dirty cutlery. Dirty tables. Candle wax covering top of pepper pot. No light in ladies toilet. No toilet roll in gents. Food cooked to order? I don't think so. Over priced " British Tapas". Warmed up roast spuds. Soggy and inedible. I could go on. Beer was ok. Service average. Was looking forward to my visit after looking at their website. A pub with aspirations that really need to up their ante. Quite shocking really.

29 Apr 2012 18:18

Running Horses, Erith

A Daily Telegraph Reader?. Oh . Must be an accurate and unbiased view then.

5 Apr 2012 21:47

Junction Inn, Oldham

Landlord has been suspended by owners Samuel Smith's for serving full pints. They say they have lost over 10 grand of stock because of the landlords insistence of " topping up pints " Good bit of Customer Relations there Sam!.

29 Jan 2012 12:05

The River Bar, Tower Bridge

We were very much looking forward to our first visit to The Draft House after hearing so many positive comments. I quite liked the old River Bar. You knew what to expect. Good solid boozer in the tourist trap that is Tower Bridge. First impressions were very good. Nice ambiance. Candles, gentle hum of conversation, not too busy. We made our way to the bar to find we were the only customers waiting to be served. Great!. The lone barman at the other end of the bar seemed to be very busy doing something under the counter. Mrs. Tuna thought he was slicing lemons. It looked to me that he may have been applying nail varnish or maybe buttering his fingers. Whatever he was doing was VERY VERY important , because not once did he look our way. After a minute or so we soon tired of our guessing game and waited to be served. Now im a patient man, but I thought I would give him another 20 seconds. That may not seem a lot. . . but i ask you to count to 20 now. Its a long time to stand there being ignored. Then!. . He glanced our way!. And continued to butter his fingers. It was only when we started to walk out that he acknowledged our existence. What a shame. Maybe they think that location is everything and they can just sit and wait for punters to file in.As they undoubtedly will. We wont be though. Nul points.

15 Jan 2012 18:19

The Guzzling Goose, Ashton Under Lyne

Ok guys. Knock it off. We get the message.

8 Jan 2012 17:49

The Coach and Horses, Whitstable

Or most amusing?.........

28 Dec 2011 13:23

The Letchford Arms, Hatch End

Closed following a raid by 60 police officers. Allegations of drug dealing, brawling and being really naughty. Local Chief Supt. said " It was a poor and disorderly house, a blight on the community".

26 Dec 2011 17:46

Walkers of St James, St James

You sacked all the old staff?.

18 Nov 2011 21:33

The Fire Station, Waterloo

Not my cup of tea. Maybe OK for a meet up venue, but a bit bland and cavernous for a session. Pricey as well.

8 Nov 2011 19:18

The Beehive, Welwyn Garden City

Do you lot think we are daft?. Take your false postings and and stick them up your carvery.

8 Nov 2011 18:31

The Exhibition, Over

Ha ha!. Busted!

18 Oct 2011 19:15

The George and Dragon, West Haddlesey

Oh please!. Six positive reviews in six days?. Haven't visited, but your cheating!. Stop it!.

9 Oct 2011 23:05

Azzurro, Waterloo

This is not a pub or bar.I only saw bottles at the bar area .But the food was very good.

14 Sep 2011 00:21

Pink and Lily, Princes Risborough

Slight whiff of desperation here methinks. It may well be a nice gaff with lower dining area but please let us have some reviews from people who have posted more than once on BITE. Sorry. Just a small gripe of mine.

6 Sep 2011 00:05

The Red Lion, Leytonstone

Don't hold your breath Number.6.

5 Sep 2011 23:49

The Railway, Finsbury Park

OMG . . . Stop this.

4 Sep 2011 19:30

The Orchard, Quedgeley

Completely destroyed by fire. Like their food by the sounds of it.

26 Aug 2011 18:44

The Ball and Wicket, Heath End

Thank God for that!

19 Aug 2011 13:27

The Doric Arch, Euston

First ( long overdue ) visit since the Fullers takeover. No
Visible changes, but just felt different. Like visiting my Nans house after she died and my aunt moved in. Same but different. Couple of suits at the bar and a few punters watching the cricket .Just like at the Doric .. Flat , just like the Tim Taylors Landlord I was served . Oh. And the smell of urine prevaded the whole place. By the time I made my way to ground floor I was almost gagging. I Hope I visited on a off day. Gutted

5 Aug 2011 00:01

The Pride of Kent, Staplehurst

bubbysue? You are a legend.

4 Aug 2011 21:45

The Old Thatch, Stapehill

mattl85. If you could just squeeze one more false review in within the next 10 minutes then this would be a new record for BITE. Well done.

4 Aug 2011 12:45

Pink and Lily, Princes Risborough

Sigh . . . . . .

31 Jul 2011 23:28

Pink and Lily, Princes Risborough

Last three posts by three new members who have all registered in the last three days. And only posted about this pub. Great pub or what! I've never been there but want to spend the rest of my life there. Thanks guys.

24 Jul 2011 23:08

The Courtyard, Nuneaton

Now the India Red restaurant.

18 Jul 2011 00:09

The Boot Inn, Nuneaton

Another Nuneaton pub closed. Rumour has it that it will be demolished to make way for canalside apartments. Tsk

17 Jul 2011 23:56

Case is Altered, Old Redding

Fishy Vishy?

8 Jul 2011 13:30

The Yorkshire Grey, Fitzrovia

Not a great fan of Sam Smith pubs, but I liked this one. One long narrow room downstairs and another room upstairs. BBC radio paraphanalia adorn the walls. Friendly attentive staff. Cant abide SS bitter , and although not normally a lager drinker the pure brewed lager went down a treat. Nice.

7 Feb 2010 18:34

Yates's Wine Lodge, Nuneaton

Closed, never to reopen. Smoking ban cited as the main reason. No loss. The place was a dive.

28 Mar 2008 13:04

Hawkins Meeting House, Plymouth

Has been renamed The Hawkins Meeting House to honour the 16th Century trader John Hawkins. The fact that he was an infamous slave trader seems to have been lost on the new owners. The Racial Equality Council is based across the road. How very sensitive.

27 Mar 2008 13:32

The Bear and Staff, Leicester Square

Not too busy early Saturday evening. The place had the feel of a friendly local. Surprised given its location. Quick, efficient service and an excellent pint of T.T.Landlord. Most enjoyable.

20 Feb 2008 13:16

The Glass Works, Angel, Islington

The only good reason to visit this place was the gorgeous Samantha. Alas she is moving on. So so shall I and many others. Sighhhhhhhhh...........

14 Nov 2007 13:09

Pig & Bell, Rugeley

Dr. William Palmer , the infamous 19th century poisoner once lived next door to this pub. It is claimed that the old Staffordshire drinking expression, "What's your poison?" asked when
offering to buy someone a drink, originated from Palmer. It is said that when there were
rumours flying around about him having poisoned people he would use the
phrase as a joke at his own expense in the Bell. He was hanged in 1856. Interesting eh?

8 Nov 2007 13:28

The Courtyard, Nuneaton

Currently closed. Again.

12 Sep 2007 13:14

Turners Old Star, Wapping

Not a bad little back street boozer. One L shaped room with pool table and dart board. Friendly staff and regulars. Decent pind of Pride. Outside seating area with......wait for it.....trampoline!.Oh joy!......

6 Sep 2007 13:17

The Bold Forester, Mansfield

Good username though!

14 Aug 2007 11:48

The Arch, Manchester

Man hurt in shooting at city pub
A 25-year-old man has undergone emergency surgery after a shooting in Greater Manchester.
The 25-year-old man, who was wounded in his leg and stomach, was targeted in the Arch Bar on Stretford Road in Hulme just before 1700 BST.

Police patrols have been stepped up in the area.

6 Aug 2007 10:35

Alibi, City Of London

A police officer is one of three men who have been charged with the murder of a man at a City of London bar.
Lee Cook, 21, from Essex, died after he was hit at least three times at the Alibi Bar while out with friends.

City of London officer Adam Lowe, 26, of Sawbridgeworth, Herts, and two men from Essex are due before magistrates.

27 Jul 2007 10:40

The Fox and Goose Hotel, Lancaster

Four posting in 13 minutes?...Something strange methinks.

23 Jul 2007 09:35

The Barn, Tunbridge Wells

Have you not heard The Arctic Monkeys?

17 Jul 2007 10:36

The Old Shades, Whitehall

It's The Market Porter.

18 Jun 2007 13:08

The Courtyard, Nuneaton

I may have been a bit harsh with my previous comments. New owner seems to be making an effort. Marstons Pedigree and Spitfire now on offer at 1.60 a pint before 6pm. Acoustic evenings and other entertainment on most evenings. Sunday lunch at 4.90,as yet untried. A pub thats on the up.

15 Jun 2007 12:58

The Lofty Turtle, East Sheen

Some singing waitress bird that works here sang for George Clooney blah blah blah

1 Jun 2007 12:49

The Temple Bar, Walworth

Friendly?....Had so many stares walking into this place I thought I may have suddenly become horribly disfigured. Not so. Just a pub that dosent welcome strangers and has a palpable sense of hostility and menace. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

14 Mar 2007 13:33

Monaghan's Bar, Walworth

Now sells carpets.

14 Mar 2007 13:10

The George Eliot Hotel, Nuneaton

I hate the George because the music is shite and there is a crap atmosphere.

12 Mar 2007 13:31

Graziers Arms, Nuneaton

Alas, another Nuneaton pub bites the dust. Now closed never to re-open. This after the recent demise of The Oddfellows Arms, The King William IV and The Arbury Tavern. This is a worrying trend being played out across the country. Shame.

6 Mar 2007 13:16

Pommelers Rest, Tower Bridge

Seems to have gone down hill a bit lately. Guest beers usually uninspired or unavailable. Still an above average Spoons though. Not that that's difficult to achieve. Smoke free too.

13 Feb 2007 13:20

The Trinity, Borough

Now called The Trinity. Didnt call in because of my earlier bad experience.

13 Feb 2007 13:00

The Brew Wharf, London Bridge

Large, cold and depressing. A couple of people in the bar area, and a smattering of people dining. The Brew Wharf bitter was a fine pint, but its the sort of place that makes you want to drink as quickly as possible so as to escape. 2.95 for a side order of mushy peas?.....Nah

12 Feb 2007 13:17

The Courtyard, Nuneaton

Now Silks. 4 owners in 19 months. Is the place cursed. Or just crap.

13 Dec 2006 13:45

The Courtyard, Nuneaton

Ooops!....hang on!......has changed hands again.

13 Dec 2006 13:44

The Courtyard, Nuneaton

Re-opened as Cain's.

13 Dec 2006 13:43

The Courtyard, Nuneaton

This up and coming hot-spot for music lovers appears to be closed. Again

31 May 2006 13:12

Pitcher & Piano, Nottingham

This pub somehow reminds me of a church. Must just be me. Oh well.

3 Apr 2006 13:11

The Rockingham Arms, Elephant and Castle

5.15 on a Sunday afternoon......very busy. VERY scary!

16 Nov 2005 13:34

The Courtyard, Nuneaton

Vast improvement over the last couple of weeks. It has closed.

16 May 2005 13:03

The Cock Inn, Sibson

Visited this pub just before noon on a weekday. First thing we were asked at the bar was wether we were eating!....Its a sodding pub is'int it?....All the tables were set for lunch....felt guilty for having just having a pint...not a bad one at that. Maybe they should just give up the pretence of calling the place a pub and call it what it really is.....a restaraunt that sells beer.

18 Feb 2005 13:12

The Doric Arch, Euston

Cant count the number of times ive walked by this place on my visits to London. Eventually paid a visit at the weekend. Great pub!......great beer!. Friendly service. Will make it my first call on future visits. And to think I used to use that shite-hole The Brittania!

10 Aug 2004 13:04

The Cittie of Yorke, Holborn

Jeez!....What a stunning place to have a pint. Almost like drinking in a cathedral.Very quiet when I visited on Saturday afternoon. Shall visit again.

9 Aug 2004 13:28

The Wellington, Waterloo

Graet big barn of a place.. lots of after school teachers setting a good example and getting pissed. Awful beer, music so loud your ears bleed, and slightly menacing atmosphere. Shite.

5 Jul 2004 13:30

The Argyll Arms, Oxford Circus

Nice pub with beautifull interior. Nice screens and mirrors and stunning bar-back. Friendly efficient staff and a great pint of Tim Taylors.....Because of its prime location gets very busy though.....Is the upstairs area for drinking or dining only?..even the staff seem unsure. Other than that though, well worth a visit.

5 Jul 2004 13:19

The Anchor, Southwark

What a dreadful place!. Im not from London. Is this two buildings merged into one?....A totally soul-less hole, devoid of any redeeming features. Couldnt care less staff, crap beer, and probably the ugliest pub I have ever seen. Inside and out. Why on earth do people drink here when there are countless better pubs less than 10 minutes walk away. Shocking.

29 Jun 2004 13:21

The Beehive, Walworth

Bit of a Jekyll and Hyde pub. Called in two weeks ago and was impressed by the friendy atmosphere, polite staff and a good pint of Wadsworth 6X. Called again at the weekend and the atmosphere was anything but friendly. The beer was drinkable ( just ) and I was made to feel guilty for pointing out that I had been charged for 2 pints instead of one and a half. I was enventually refunded by the surly barman without an apology or kiss my arse. With just a bit of effort this place could be a good little pub in the otherwise barren wastes of Walworth. Shame.

22 Jun 2004 13:19

The Royal Oak, Borough

A superb pub in every department. Good hearty reasonably priced food. Excellent beer by Harvey's.The Armada was particulary fine. Friendly locals. No music or distractions needed. A landlord who is genuinely interested in his customers, his beer and pubs in general. This was our first visit, and he could not have made us feel more welcome if we had been regulars, even finding the time to sit with us and have a chat. He even GAVE me a book on pub interiors. Great barmaid as well!....The place has an almost magnetic quality.....What started off as short visit turned into a seven pint session......Although I live 120 miles away I shall visit The Oak at every available oppertunity.........10/10.
One minor quibble?......Please open at weekends Frank !

4 Jun 2004 13:12

Doggetts Coat and Badge, Southwark

Absolute shit-hole. Staff were ok, beer was shite. Dirty tables, disgusting toilets. If your idea of fun is standing in other peoples piss as you go to the loo, this is the pub for you.

3 Jun 2004 13:37

Felix Holt, Nuneaton

Where else can you hear drunken people singing at 12.30 in the afternoon but in a Wetherspoons pub?...Seems to be frequented by people on day release from care homes. Having said that, at just 1.29 for a decent pint of Spitfire, I may as well join them.

10 May 2004 13:03

The Globe, London Bridge

When is this place open?..On my last 2 visits to London its been closed. On a Friday and a Sunday!

23 Apr 2004 12:53

The Old Thameside Inn, London Bridge

Bad points. Crap service.Rude staff.Full of drunken loud Americans.Shite beer......Good points. Nice views from the terrace. But then again Christ had good views of Jerusalem as he was Crucified.

23 Apr 2004 12:50

The Wheatsheaf, Borough

What a little gem of a pub!...Attractive old building with a saloon and public bar.No pretentions, just friendly atmosphere, good service and superb pint of Youngs Special. How a pub should be.

21 Apr 2004 13:17

The Trinity, Borough

My first port of call on a Borough pub crawl!........Pool hall come fast food joint masquarading as a pub. On my visit barman was taking food orders while another man ( landlord? ) stood behind the bar with arms folded looking on with disdain. Perhaps it was beneath him to serve punters. Below average IPA. Bad start to crawl! 2/10
