Very pleasant looking pub both inside and out in suburban rural location. Decent clientele. Large lawned beer garden to front, cricket green to the left. Last visit 4 pumps serving Vale Brill, Rebellion, one other I can't remember the name of and the dreaded doom bar (c/o Coors mega brewery Tadcaster). Small selection of bottled UK and foreign beers. freeman - 17 May 2015 15:22 |
The Case is Altered is also an excellent early comedy by Ben Jonson. First published in 1609, the play presents a range of problems for scholars attempting to understand its place in Jonson's canon of works. Maybe he had just read it and got confused. Tuna - 4 Jun 2013 23:52 |
Apart from this one and the one mentioned in the previous post, there is also the one mentioned in Harrow Weald (Old Redding and also one in Wealdstone. The name is a corruption of "Casa Alter" or "Old House" which is Spanish, although why pubs were named in Spanish in the first place beats me. Any ideas? cellarbuoy - 4 Jun 2013 22:15 |
Blue Scrumpy has indeed got the wrong pub, but it's an understandable mistake: from his description he went to The Case Is Altered in Harrow Weald. Not far away, and how many pubs of this name are there? Martinl - 4 Jun 2013 21:33 |
Lovely pub with a lovely garden. There were 4 ales on today, and at £3.35 a pint, a lot cheaper than my locals on Harrow on the Hill. I was here last August, and there were also 4 ales on then, so like BeerGutt, I think that blue scrumpy has got the wrong pub. None of the awful beers/lagers that he mentions were on sale here when I was visiting, and the pub is exactly what a country pub should be, and nothing like an Indian restaurant.
