I suppose its a fact of tourist life.
This pub is good but in dodgy weather gets packed (May)

A fascinating place it has to be said, this is the pub i want to be in when there is a storm blowing outside.
A very good range of local on tap and strong cider too.
My only complaint is as is the rest of Polperro it can get uncomfortbally crowded and busy as the pub is fairly small.

I can't believe that this great pub in a fabulous setting only gets a rating of around 7. The owners are most welcoming, cheerfully greeting everybody who walks in, dispensing bonhomie to all and sundry. Beerwise I can't fault the place, well kept and served and a great range. This is a cracking pub that deserves its success.

Only visited this pub once on a saturday afternoon but its a gem of a place the people in there were really friendly and the beer was well kept and the food looked really good to.cant wait to go back there soon.

I've been coming to the Blue Peter since i can remember. Coke and crisps have now been replaced by there lovely Cornish Ale. Difficult to rate this pub as my judgement will have been clouded by so many amazing musical, funny and sometimes odd nights. After a recent visit i can confirm that the Peter hasn't lost any of it's charm. The Four Cornish ales, good variety and very tasty. The pub hasn't changed one bit. Still cosy, as nice on a stormy cold night as it is on a calm summer evening. When i was in, it wasn't rammed as it often is, so it was nice to sit in comfort in my favorite window seat. The staff were friendly as were the locals and visitors. There's something about this place which makes people want to chat and make new friends. Still my favorite pub. Not the Blue Peter, The Blue Print.

After the helter-skelter bus ride from Polruan (a must do trip) and a tour of the village and hillside walk, we headed off to the Blue Peter for some beer. There were four ales on tap (probaby more at the weekend and in high season) and I had the excellent Sharp's Own which I rated higher than Doom Bar ! Tribute and a Chillie & Chocolate beer were also available and they also had draught scrumpy cider. You climb up a flight of steps to get to the main bar and there is another room upstairs again. Super views over the harbour. Very traditional interior with nauticalia (is that a real word?) all around make for a very pleasing and cosy atmosphere and with good beer and friendly and chatty staff this was a perfect spot for a couple of ales. We didn't eat in the pub but the fish and chip portions looked ginormous ! Apart from the Crumplehorn ( before the bus back) we didn't try any of the other pubs in the village as this one was good enough for us and I can see why it is so popular. However, we went in November and it was nice and quiet - during the summer months it must be heaving so get there early to get a seat! A must visit pub in Polperro.

Probably has the best selection of different beers than most pubs in this area.
I think there were about six hand-pumps and every one in use.
Although food is available space did seem a problem.
The dining area upstairs is too cramped and not much better in the bar.
I'll just stick with the beer.

One of my favourite pubs anywhere and after walking from Polruan the first two beers barely touched the sides.
Very well kept and selected local ales,friendly and knowledgeable bar staff and an excellent location.

Pub was warm and snug, just what was needed this weekend! St Austall Ruck N Roll, Tribute, Bays Top Sail and Sharps Atlantic, food was excellent although when it filled up in the evening - it REALLY filled up and got slightly stuffy, esp with the real fire on too.
Good pub, recommended...

As well as Doom there was Sharps Own and Bays. Top barman. Talkative locals made us welcome. Just had all that you'd expect from and old Cornish fishing pub. Well done

Completely geared to food, but with that said there was a large selection of real ales available. I had a half of 'Shipwreck' and a half of a local medium scumpy: excellent. The staff were very nice, but they may want to reconsider their choice of background music: non-stop blues is not to everyone's taste.

Can only echo the general gist of previous comments. Cosy, typical Cornish pub offering excelling looking food ( we didn't eat on this occasion ). But the highlight was continual banter between the barman / owner and the punters. Absolutely brilliant. But one thing I will never understand is why do people go into a cracking pub offering several local real ales and order San Miguel (and it happened twice in ten minutes).

Judging just the beer this gets an 8 or 9. Trelawny very nice; Black Prince not as good as expected. Downhill from there though; smelly (cushions need a wash) and could smell the loo; a bit grubby really. Some call this atmosphere. There's no excuse. 6.

Typical cosy Cornish pub, in the pretty harbour at Polperro. Plenty of real ale on tap, but on a quite busy day, only one barman present. Service was made slower when he had to go downstairs to change a barrel leaving several disgruntled customers twiddling their thumbs in wait. Tried the Trelawny which went down well, as I watched the hub bub of the harbour out of the window. Nice pub, good location, slow service. Two out of three is not too bad. I give it a 6.

Spent 2 very enjoyable afternoons in here on a recent holiday after strolling from Looe.Nice atmosphere,good bar staff and excellent and changing beers,with no Doom Bar in sight.

Visited on last Saturday lunchtime and the place was doing a brisk trade for locals and visitors alike. This is what I would call a real Cornish pub - a bit dark and a bit worn, but lots of beams, well kept beer, good basic food. Somewhere that invites you to take refuge when the weather is bad (like it was that day). Doom Bar was excellent, and the prawns in my baguette were as if they had just come off the boat. Maybe they had.

Great pub, good food (but huge portions!!). Excellent beer and cider on draught; Doom, Yellowhammer, Tribute, Sharpes Special and Thatchers Dry. Very friendly bar and kitchen staff. Well worth a visit.

For cash in Polperro, use the counter at the Post Office (not their ATM, which also charges). The counter is free.

Visited here a few weeks ago whilst on holiday in Corwall. A great pub in a picturesque setting.
The staff were very friendly, (very nice girl behind the bar!).
The beers on were St. Austell Tribute, Sharps Doombar, Otter Ale and Bays Gold. As it was a hot day and I'd done a fair bit of walking I had the Orchard cider. Lovely!
There is an ATM in the pub which charges �1.65. I don't normally use that kind but there doesn't appear to be any cash points in the town, let alone banks!
Nevertheless I'd definately return here!

Decent pint of local ale and unusual local ciders too. Food seems pricey but generous portions. Staff friendly, great location at end of coastal path on way into village.

Landlord and staff are friendly as can be. Had the local cider, brewed just down the road, absolutely gorgeous. Lovely cosy pub, food looked great. Definitely come here if I return to Polperro.

I have been coming to Polperro with my family for the past four years. The Blue Peter is the BEST pub in the village. The atmosphere is great, the staff wonderful, the bands are brilliant and the food is delicious. As soon as we arrive, my kids, 15,13 and 10 are desperate to go there for dinner. Last November, I came to Polperro with my girlfriends and had the best weekend away ever - most of it spent in the Blue Peter! Would definately recommend to anyone - youngsters and old alike. Our family are coming back in August (and hopefully my friend and I before then!) to enjoy the Blue Peter and Polperro again - love it!

We visited this pub last month during our stay in Polperro. The staff and locals were friendly and welcoming, and the beer and food was excellent.The ales, particularly the O'hanlons were in prime condition. Great atmosphere and we will definitely return if we are in that area again.

Best pub in Cornwall but don't tell everyone! It's set on the quayside of this beautiful cornish fishing village, with a view across the harbour through the windows and great view out to sea when you step outside. Inside it's a cosy family run pub serving good beers and fresh fish caught in the harbour, the same fishermen often at the bar in the evening.
We've had some cool holidays here and an evening in the Blue Peter is a must. I recommend the fish stew, then to soak up the relaxing atmosphere, friendly staff and music.

I've always found them very receptive to any comments; we did have a criticism of a meal once (though it's unusual, they're normally excellent)and we received profuse aplogies and weren't charged.

this pub is worth going to for the ambience, atmosphere and friendliness of the staff alone. olde worlde, great music, good beer and the food is supposed to be tops too. if you go to polperro then you must visit this pub.

You'd do better that complain in the Blue - they are known for arguing the odds rather than just putting it right.
I once had a tiny,tiny complaint about the food and after a tirade of explanations and excuses she alluded it was my problem because nobody else had ever explained.
Yeah,that's because they knew better!

We visited this pub at the beginning of this month and I was very disappointed with the treatment I received.
I ordered Gammon, egg and chips which looked very nice when it arrived but on eating it the gammon tasted like fish, which I don�t like at all.
I wouldn�t have said anything to the lady who came to collect our plates as I don�t like to complain but she asked me what was wrong with my meal so I explained.
She then went on to say that there was no way this could be as the gammon is cooked separate and that maybe it was the salt I could taste!!!!
I felt like she was implying that I didn�t know the difference between fish and salt which I took as a personal insult. After this I could not be bothered trying to argue with her as it was supposed to be a nice night out for me and my six friends ( who all enjoyed their food, but were shocked at the ladies attitude!!)
Why someone thought I would like to go for a nice meal after a long coastal walk then pay nearly �10 to not eat something and go hungry just for the sake of complaining is beyond me!!!
Needless to say none of us would visit this pub again, which is a shame, as I wouldn�t have even complained in the first place!!!

Well, after a gap of some 10 years since i last visited the Blue Peter, we approached with a slight air of uneasiness as some of the comments on here did not fill me with glee..
Nothing to worry about. What a pub. Absolutely fantastic and made to feel so welcome on a particularly busy sunny Sunday in August. We popped in at lunch for a couple of liveners and then spent the evening in there with our dog.
Great ale served in one of the best pubs in the country and the best pub in the village by a country mile (and that is from an impartial non-local).
I just wish it was not so far from my house..

wherever we stay in cornwall,i always make a point of calling in for a swift pint or three,the beer is kept well,and the food is great(the chips were hand cut and cooked to order,no oven fried here!)the service is great too

I found the outside to be disappointing....the steel huts and portable toilets outside rather spoil the approach! But the atmosphere inside the bar was tremendous - characterful and welcoming. Very friendly staff - including welcoming the dog with treats - and good beer, I liked it a lot even though the views of the harbour were restricted. Would certainly re-visit.

Thankfully, there are quite a few comments left by people who are not in the clutches (and EX employ) of a desperate publican in the village and have left some true and descriptive comments on one of the best pubs in Polperro. The staff always seem welcoming, the beer is kept to perfection and the atmosphere is just how a pub should be.
Bearing in mind that this site is open to the entire planet, can we please stop slating this wonderful village and the pubs in it? Itreally does no good what-so-ever.

First time in this pub on 10th May. Great beer and the food looked and smelt delicious. Regret eating elsewhere before we went! Quite friendly but did resent a 'local' who had followed me in being served over my shoulder as if I wasn't there.No matter will definitely go back.

I am very surprised to read of these detrimental reviews. I have always found the staff and management of the BP to be charming and friendly, the beer excellent and the food top drawer. However, as with most towns and villages, Polperro does suffer with a rowdy set, usually congregating outside the Noughts & Crosses, causing grief to residents and holidaymakers alike. Polperro is a small village, lucky to have so many good pubs. I hope a rowdy element doesn't spoil it.

Staff have always been very nice when I visit. Maybe you have been asked to leave cos you are a drunken pain in the ass. If you are thrown out of a great pub like this then you are a social misfit

Well well...in a sense I agree with you on this one eddiew. The site is not really for having a pop at staff.
Athough I do agree that if a host is less than friendly it should be allowed to be said. Having said that, I visit the Blue at least 2-3 times a year and have done for over 15years. Sometimes I have left barely able to stand up as the music and the beer has been that good, others I have found less enjoyable simply because it is a very 'foody' pub now and in doing that it has lost some of its character.
Sadly pubs need to do all they can to survive now and a good cellar, good food and a pleasant welcome are all I would ask for. These 3 things have recently always been available aplenty at the Blue and I find the landlord and landlady polite but very very busy.
In losing that 'time to chat' maybe they seem less welcoming?
But poisonous! In my opinion there is no place for that type of comment on here.

I read these last few comments with interest and would say that since Terry left some seven years ago the place has not been the same which is what you get for people without heart. Last time I was there I was ejected for no good reason, six years back, work it out yourselves folks!!

This has always been a lovely pub, it's just a shame about the people who run it..... The landlady seems to have a habit of being 'poisonous' at every opportunity, and this was again proved when a good friend of mine went there for a drink last week! They were kicked out for not a lot, but that seems to be the pattern! The beers have always been well-kept, but I think it's time someone else was given the chance to run it!

The reviews have this superb pub bang to rights, my mate lives in Polperro and the temptation to stay at his in the summer is too strong, he writes for a living so I usually go to the Peter on my jack of a lunchtime whilst he scribbles.They give away Blue peter badges ! The seagulls here have a bloody good aim!

Pretty as a picture, staff always welcoming - and they do a fantastic homemade mulled wine close to Christmas. Great well kept beers and real cider. Also dog friendly, couldn't ask more! Well be back for annual trip number six this December!

I used to fish on the rocks whilst camping at nearby Talland Bay and visit the Blue Peter.
I was really into the scrumpy cider here and can just about recall very pleasant wanders back to get my rod after 6 or 7 pints in the Blue Peter.
Yes,its a wonderful place.
Great beer and staff compliment a relaxed atmosphere.A usually half-cut Landlord who loved 40's Trad Jazz has alas been replaced by a more staight guy. Very busy in summer months particularly around meal times.Never ate there.I was always too busy getting greased on cider.
Would've got crabs from off the dock if i had of been hungry.(Not hard in Cornwall in Summer)
If I could have been anywhere on 9/11 it would have been wrecked on scrumpy in the Blue Peter....so its a good job I was!
I will go there again if i have to crawl.

Visited here last week whilst in the area on holiday - based on the entry in the GBG. Nice interior downstairs but limited view of the sea and we were right in the window. See the Rashleigh Inn at Polkerris for a better setting. But still very nice food - very attractively served ;<).
Beer was really good - had some Otter and some O'Hanlons Yellow Hammer. Both in tip-top condition. This place was really popular despite it being out of season - there was quite a lot of coming and going. God only knows what it is like in the high season. Definitely worth a visit - the bus will take you back to Looe for trains on to wherever.

well enjoyed top pint of tribute, my dad knew a few of the blokes in here so we stayed for a couple. everyone friendly and staff very polite. A lot more like what I expect a cornish pub to be like. rate a good 8 for the "pubiness" of the place

Had a week in Polperro recently, and pleased to see that the Peter is still on top form. It is also good to see that Sharp's beers no longer dominate here, and a good range of Skinner's and St Austell beers were on offer. A great pub.

The atmosphere, the beer, the food, the couple who run run (The Steadmans), all the other staff, the village it's situated in....well they're all excellent.

Stayed in a cottage a few yards from the Blue Peter. Great beer, friendly professional staff, good home made food, dogs welcome, friendly locals - everything we needed. The best pub

We went here as it was the first pub after the Polruan to Polperro walk. What a welcome site after a long walk and running out of water. This was the pub I wanted to find anyway so a spot of luck that it was the first one we came to. Six hand pumps with St Austell Tribute, Polperro Pride, Otter Ale, Royal Oak, Adnams Regatta and Cornish Orchards Draught Cider available on our visit. The Polperro Pride I had was very good and I was informed by the landlord that it is a mix from St Austell. I believe it is the only pub in Polperro in site of the sea. The floor upstairs takes you to the rear beer garden/smoking area and steps to the quay.

This is our favourite Cornish pub. Clean, good food, yeah for sure its not the cheapest it is but very good quality. Excellent choice of beers and Steve the landlord is always welcoming.

a nice pub with a good atmosphere and location.only thing that i found a bit dissapointing was the prices, as it seemed a bit expensive. But still worth a visit as the food is good and the staff are welcoming. (Handy hint- if going in to see music or watch sport, get there early if you want a seat!)

Good food, good beer, a victim of its own success and very busy in season, The trouble is that in the evenings you often cant get a seat as full of eaters. friendly bar staff, hard working landlord/lady. good music if you can get a seat whcih is rare. Upstairs is dull and drab.

Trying to be something they can't be.
Used to be an excellent pub for lunch and a few beers but now are tring to be something like a gastro pub. The have completely failed. They should have just done the lunch menu in the evening. Very dissapointing

Every time we stay in the area we look forward to dropping in for a friendly drink. The beer is good the location is perfect nestled into the rocks and next the the harbour.
The food has always been great, Loving the flannel hash and sunday roasts.
It can get packed, with trippers quickly filling the small bar and upstairs food area.
Its dog friendly and in the winter has a lovely roaring fire to dry beside.

In my opinion definately the most fantastic pub i have ever been in. We have visited Polperro twice now and the second time we stayed in onother pub but drank in The Blue Peter and nowhere else! The bar staff are extremely friendly and helpful and Rob remembered us from our first visit which was 10 months ago! A lovely lovely place to sit and have a drink and a natter!! Love the place!

Great place to drink and for its atmosphere. Friendly staff and landlord. Can be hard work if you are over 6'6" but a few of the real ales will soon have you on your knees and enable you to miss the low ceilings. All year round pub well supported by locals. Great fun with live music. If you want posh nosh and plenty of room better to look elsewhere, but if you're looking for a decent pint, friendly folk and to have a good fun time, then there is no better place in the area, if not in the whole of Cornwall. If you're friendly, you are made more than welcome, and if you're not friendly better not come to Cornwall, as the locals will make sure you don't stay long, and more power to them! You can also just sit quietly and people watch, and there's plenty of interesting people to watch! It's great to know that pubs such as this still exist, not exactly PC, but never offensive. If you enjoy a decent pint but don't enjoy a visit here, then you are probably an extremely unhappy person. I make an effort to visit whenever down that way. I'm not a regular or known personally by the landlord or staff, but I am always made welcome, as is everyone I know or see in the pub, in particular by the landlord who has a humour that 'outsiders' might not immediately appreciate, but who is as genuine as they come. Long may they reign and keep this place as it is - a great place for a pint, friendly banter and an enjoyable time.

The new kitchen is obviously a great success for them, as food is now available lunchtime and evenings and it's even better than before.

Some interesting comments! I am well overdue a stay in Polperro, I must take up the Crumplehorn's offer sent to me recently. As for the Peter; I would say it is my favourite pub in Polperro. I have always found the staff, locals and tourists very friendly. As for Sharp's, I agree with biggles, give me Skinners anyday! I will hasten back!

Just returned from New Year in Polperro and during the week we were there I think we must have eaten at the Blue Peter about 4 or 5 times as it was so good! Locals were very friendly as were the bar staff - who really couldn't have been more helpful.
The beer was excellent - Tribute on every night, plus 3 or 4 other assorted well kept cask ales - like a little mini beer fest!
My only regret was that there wasn't a massive amount of fresh fish on the menu, which I assume was because the boats weren't going out. Still managed to have some of the finest fresh squid I've ever had though.
Keep up the good work. We'll be back!

Sharp's have been "selling their beer up the road" for ages, nothing new there. Probably he's been recently selling beers that are more popular, I've never been a huge fan of Sharp's, I'm more likely to drink Skinners, which is usually available there.
Personally, I've always found the landlord - and all his family - very pleasant do deal with.

Biker, you make a very good point. Some brewers are greedy. but then so is taking a well-loved (see prvious comments) beer out because you can get other beer more cheaply. Surely the landlord should let the customers decide not just select beer at the bargin basement prices

Nice location but landlord is unpleasant. Rumour has it that they have taken Sharp's out because Sharp's is now selling it's beer up the road and wont sell it cheap enough to him.

Good beer in fine surroundings. Bar staff did what they were there to do and so did I. Keep it up.

I am totaly gobsmacked reading what other people have written about this magnificent pub. It is quiet simply one of the best i have ever had the pleasure to visit, and i have been in plenty. It is pleasantly run , serves GREAT food and BEER, and has some blinding live music. Anyone sad enough to moan about the range of beers is just that SAD , and ought to get out more. I have been lucky enough to visit it every time i have been to Polperro and it is always welcoming. I particularly like a pint of Doom Bar , where i come from its all brakespears and believe me that can get very insipid and boring. Anyone ( normal ) visiting the Blue Peter can be assured of a pleasant time , and i am glad i have had the chance to sing its praises .
PS try the Hicks rum its mindblowing!!!!!

I am pleased to see that the owners are taking these comments seriously. I feel optomistic that the Peter is still the pub that it was. I note the comments on Sharp's beers; if three beers are on tap, I hope two of them aren't Sharp's! (Sorry, this is only my opinion!) There is no point in saying that out of 133 beers available, 6 are Sharp's, if 3 or more are always 'on'. However, it is your pub, you are entitled to stock what you like! ;-)
I'm not particularly against Sharp's beers, but IMHO there are other wonderful beers in Cornwall too.
I really look forward to my next visit. A painting of the Peter is hung in my house, so I *am* a fan! :-)

We would like to respond to some of the comments recently made regarding The Blue Peter Inn. Our selection of real ales includes 133 different beers, six of which are Sharps. In quieter times quality is more important than quantity, hence we only sell 3 ales at these times - frequently including 3 different breweries and strengths - of exceptional quality to maintain our standard as real ale drinkers would appreciate. As demand increases so does our ability to supply a more extensive range of quality ale.
Regarding our staff we endeavour to create a warm welcome and friendly atmosphere at all times. If we have failed in this then we appoligies. Where there are any criticsisms it is in our interest to receive them at the time so that we can deal with them immediately. We hope that in reading our thoughts you will see that we take your comments seriously and look forward to seeing you again.

These comments are very pertinent. When you are at the top, it is hard to stay there - there is also only one other way to go; downhill!
If the Blue Peter is on a downward slide, let's hope it can be reversed. My only (minor) criticism on my visits, is the limited beer range (mainly Sharp's). Whilst agreeing that they are popular, a wider choice of breweries (Skinner's, for example) would be welcomed. I wonder if they have borrowed extensively from Sharp's, and are therefore somewhat 'tied'?
Polperro is blessed with many pubs, all excellent. A great place to stay.
An earlier reviewer asked, "Why drink 6X in Polperro?" Probably the same people who drink Doom Bar in Salisbury! :-)

Was looking foward to visiting this pub and as the comments suggest the beer is great but the main problem I had was one of the vertically challenged bar staff was consistantly rude to us. Demanding that we shut the door (when it wasnt us that left it open), not saying thankyou, looking fed up when we approached the bar as he had to get off his backside to serve us. If it wasnt for this i would have given it a good review but I think it deserves a 2 only - go to the crumplehorn instead as the beer is just as good and the staff are very friendly.

This is the best pub in the country without doubt It is best visited in winter when not packed with tourists the food is brill especially the red flannell hash the landlord steve is great as are the local horse racing tipsters always to be found in the corner can't wait to go back this year 10++++

Excellent quality beers mainly Sharp's with probably the best pint of Doombar (why people go to Cornwall and drink Wadworth 6X is beyond me!?).

What a super pub in a typical fishing village! Lots of dark wood and atmosphere. Climb the steep stairs and you can see into the kitchen and sit at a table level with the window overlooking the harbour. Fantastic fresh homemade crabcakes and perfectly cooked vegetables. The staff are friendly and the beer excellent. What more coould you ask of a pub?

this is my favorite pub ever.i will be going down to polperro next friday 21oct05. should be in the 'bluey'as the locals know it about 6pm for my first pint of the week of DOOMBAR by sharps. a truely lovely pint that goes down a little bit too easily!!this pub as far as i know dates back to the 17th century and you really can sit in here just yards from the crashing waves and imagine the smugglers discussing their latest booty.good food lunchtimes but not in the evening.wobble along to the three pilchards for your grub, just about 20yards away.weekends they often have a singer with guitar who is very good.recomend staying in one of the many cottages right in the village. we've tried a few and they are all nice.this time we'll be in seawinds, right on the harbour edge with it's own balcony where you can sit and crab with the kids whilr enjoying a bottle of wine with the wife.lovely !!

Just come home from my second week in Polperro this year and The Blue Peter has been my regular evening haunt.
Friendly relaxing ambiance, friendly service, good music (not too intrusive and thankfully not latest chart fodder!), superb lunchtime food (great menu; but no food in evenings - not necessarily a bad thing), and of course great beer with Doom a regular and ever changing guest ales.
Best pub in Cornwall?? Well, certainly my favourite!

Just had another few days in the village. Still a great pub, but suffers through its own excellence! Very busy all day, with little hope of finding a table. Good to see Theakston's Old Peculier on draught.

Agree with everything posted, but just a small correction... the proprietors are Steve and Caroline. Not sure who Richard might be, but Kate is lovely!

this is quite simply my very favourite pub in the world. kate the barmaid and richard the proprietor are extremely and welcoming. they even remember you if you ahven't visited for months on end. the luchtime grub is excellent but make sure you go in with a healthy appetite as the portions are generous.
unlike a previous post i love Sharps Doom Bar and have been "doomed" on many visits. even hired a cottage for a week opposite side of the harbour so i could see the pub when i woke up! (compass cottage if you want to give it a try - very romantic and only sleeps two - no good for bigamists!).
the pub itself is what you would expect a smugglers haunt to be and"tall paul" the barman's photos exhibited on the wall are excellent (got two hanging in my lounge)
so if you visit cornwall and don't seek out the blue peter(and compass cottage) you will not have a totally fulfilled existence. Mine's a pint of Doom !

Just had another week in Polperro. This is still the best pub here (and they're all pretty good!)Excellent quality beers (2005 Good Beer Guide entry)though at the start of the week mainly Sharp's (what do people see in Doom Bar?!) by the end a much better selection. Loved Heligan Honey. Superb.

There are not sufficient superlatives to describe this wonderful pub. We bought two pints of real ale, sat and quaffed about a third of them quite happily when the landlord came and took them back, saying that they did not look right. He changed the barrel and gave us fresh pints, apologized for our original pints, and said that beer is too expensive not to be served at it�s best. Truly remarkable! You can get a boat from Looe to Polpero which is a great way to make the journey and the pub is just a few steps from the quayside.
