Sadly the ale is served bright, but it is still well kept. There is also a good range of Continental beers available.

As always, a wide variety of ales on offer. This is one of the few JDW pubs that I always go out of my way to visit when galavanting around the country.

Sadly not selling Ale, but The Melbourne is still worth a visit. Polite staff & good service go a long way.
12 Dec 2009 23:08
Good pint of Pedigree. Sadly there are only 3 ale pumps in this bar. As Marstons now own Jennings, maybe they will start to do a better range of ales in their pubs.
10 Dec 2009 20:45
As always, an exellent pint of Bass(straight from the jug). This is one of the few pubs in Derby that still sreve Bass.
10 Dec 2009 20:41
A good ale house with up to 5 ales available. Skinners "Ginger Tosser" was one of the more interesting ales. Beware of The Dog!!!! If He does not know you, he will bark & growl at you from behind the bar.

Good ale, good food. If you drink malt whisky tell them if you want ice in it. If you don't, you'll get ice.

Typical Lloyds no.1 at a weekend. Unless you go into the pub in the early evening, it can take quite a while to get served owing to people flapping their gums at the bar instead of moving away to let others in. The ale was in tip-top condition though & the staff were helpful.

This pub was recommended to me by the staff in The Cider Press. They had 6 ales on including Bays. Well worth a visit.

I decided to use this pub instead of dining in the hotel. The menu is well put together & the food is brilliant. There were 2 ales available, Tim Taylors Landlord & Black Sheep. Well worth that walk up a steep hill from the Holiday Inn. Even some of the passengers form on my tour coach ate here!!

Very good to see that Yates are now doing Real Ale. The ale is cheaper than the opposition(JDW)and is served well. Long may it continue to inject some competition for good ale back into the town.
15 Jul 2008 23:41
The Three Horseshoes Inn, Great Parndon
A 1st class ale house with a landlord that wants to improve it even further. Old Speckled Hen is perfect.

The Christmas ales are not served too cold & very well kept. Youngs Christmas ale is particlarly good. Thank God Gemma is back from Braintree to sort out the mess left by the previous clowns!!
