George Hotel, Hull

The current landlord seems to be running the pub down. Maybe he is leaving. Went in on the weekend ripped seat where i sat so shuffled around. Gone was the London Pride i use to drink here so got a pint of Clarks bitter. Not impressed. Its a top end of the market price wise but dissapointed on my last visit

The Kingston Hotel, Hull

Just started using this pub again since they started selling cask ale again. Nice pint of Cumberland ale. Seems to be hit and miss with customers, sometimes i walk past because it's full other times its okay. Main room and one smaller room sky tv. Worth a visit

Ye Old Blue Bell, Hull

Great Sam Smiths pub. i use it regularly when out round town on a weekend. The lounge area seems to be full of locals that have been going in there since it was built centuries ago. The longish corridor style main area is full of mostly older people. Beer Sam Smiths of course great prices nice kept ale and friendly staff.
I belive there is a games room upstairs or use to be. Got a dart board downstairs. The only downside realy is it's a bit dated now and could do with a lick of paint at least.

Wye Bridge House, Buxton

Typical spoons pub with loads of real ales i opted for October zest [ i think] Was reasonable. Could do with better seating i went to what looked like a family part of the pub at first but i felt like i was back at school with the cheap kitchen tables. Tried to get one of the more comfortable looking tables with bar stools but there were only around a dozen and they were all taken. Ended up on an old couch next to the door.
Could do better with better seating as a start

The Swan, Buxton

Nice pub Tetley s spot on looks popular with the locals
Stayed for several pints

11 Oct 2011 20:29

The Sun Inn, Buxton

Paid a visit on two consecutive nights had Marstons both nights a well kept pint. A multi roomed pub with several rooms off. We sat in the main room low ceiling original beams a real fire but was not on. Seating was a bit uncomfortable unless you could get in the big comfy armchair near the fire.
Did not eat here but several of people were ordering food or had eaten so it must be popular.
Nice ale recomended

Railway Hotel, Buxton

Had a meal on Friday night [7/10/11] It was ok but it's what to expect from processed food pub although the chips were under cooked.
The ale was not bad thou. I sampled greene king IPA.
It's a fairly large pub and it was quite full. It's ok for a quick pint because it's a decent one but i would have second thoughts on the food and probably eat somewhere else
.

The London Road Inn, Buxton

Went in on an early Saturday evening. There was the landlord and two locals. Ordered a Tetley cask and a pint of cider. Tetley came out with an acceptable head on but landlord took it away as i was about to take it and topped it up further. First time i have not had to ask for a top up even thou the head was at an acceptable level. Tetley was spot on too.
Pub looks like it could have been a three roomed pub but now all rooms are knocked through main bar has sky sports a smaller room at the side with a fireplace and a what could have been a snug to the side of the bar also had a tv in it. The pub looked very clean an bright. They also had Cumberland ale.
If i were to visit Buxton again i would definitely pop in again. The Landlord made us feel welcome too

The Sailmakers Arms, Hull

Just had a makeover and for the better it was rather grubby. Had cask black sheep it was quite nice . i use to avoid as i have put it was getting rather grubby but will pop in every now and then because of the makeover and a decent pint. It also serves meals now too.

The Minerva Hotel, Hull

Have been in several times on a Saturday Lunch and i must say the Tetley's was in perfect condition [ i challenge anyone to find a better pint of tetleys anywhere] on each occasion. Not eaten here but the food i have seen looks really good. Not realy full but always has a few drinkers popping in when i have been in.
Very much recomended

The Mill, Hull

beer okay. Tetley cask and black sheep. single roomed pub long and narrow down the side but opens up at the bar. Joseph Rank was born there i believe. The windmill is still in the car park complete with sails. Stopped going in because there is always a terrible smell from the toilets which you can smell if you are stud in the bar this can't be a coincidence as i have been in around 5 or 6 times in the last two years but will not now i've had enough.
Good for sky sports with two big t.v s at the back

The Brook Inn, Cleator

Was staying in the area and popped into this pub. What a great pub it is staff very friendly and helpful esp the barman with the ginger hair and beard. food is very good three cask ales to choose from. Yates T.T Landlords and the third escapes me at the moment. the only complaint i have is all the three casks were a blond beer i would have preferred to try a dark cask ale but non were available. But apart from that it's an excellent little boozer

26 Jul 2011 20:44

The Foxglove, Huddersfield

Good spacious inn with three real ales to choose i had a very good pint of Black Sheep.
Three of us had lunch and we all chose a Sunday roast with either a starter or a pudding for 9.99. Ok it was pub grub and it was average put edible. One person in my party commented it looks like it has had a refit and a change of ownership from their last visit and for the better too. The staff were pleasant too

10 Jul 2011 21:53

The Victoria, Newcastle Under Lyme

Poped in for a meal and a pint whilw in the area with the Wife as it use to be her local 20 odd years ago. Had a pint of Victoria bitter which was very good the meal scampie and chips was not to bad but we have had better.
The pub itself was quite well decorated with a beer garden to the rear. It has a large car park so no problem there too. It also has a carvery at one end of the pub which on a hot day was not doing much business for a roast. on the whole it looks like a nice boozer

3 Jul 2011 22:28

City Arms, Wells

Went in for a quick pint at lunch time with the other half and two kids. I had a pint of Penny's pride kids had a coke each and wife Ashtons press cider. A decent pint as was the cider. But a tad expensive at 11.odd think it was and 33p
looked a nice relaxing pub with several ales on offer. If i visit Wells again i would call back in but not for to many due to the prices

4 Jun 2011 22:57

Riverside Inn and Restaurant, Cheddar

Went in for a family meal twice this week. Food on both occasions was good so was the various cask ales on offer/ ciders Staff friendly too. would recommend

The Postgate Inn, Egton Bridge

Just got back from a two night stay at this Inn. Although the stay was relaxing the bed was comfortable the rooms were basic but clean. Food was a tad on the expensive side as was the beer but the food was very good the beer was a decent pint too.
On the down side. On the two nights b&b we stayed we ordered a table for an evening meal first night for 19.30 and we was waiting 50 minutes before we were showed to our table and after we finished our starter waited 30 more minutes for our main to arrive. The second night we thoiught lightening could'nt strike twice alas it did and waited 50 minutes again for our table but on the plus point only 20 minutes befor our second course arrived.

A word of warning when booking for b&b.It states on their web site a twin double with en suite is 69 per night we were charged 75 per night when i queried this i was told it was 69 for 3 or more nights only but we only stayed two so it's 75 even though when i booked by phone and asked the price i was told 69.
After a lovely stay in the moors this was spoilt by the service and the surprised bill come the end of our stay

The Birch Hall Inn, Beck Hole

This must be among the most unusual pubs i have been in. Stumbled upon it quite by accident on a walk from Gothland back to our b&b in Egton bridge. You enter into a tiny bar where i thought was just a serving hatch was actually the bar. Ordered a pint of Copper Dragon and a cheese sarnie. It was a nice day so i headed off to the beer garden as the bar was full with around 8 people in.
The garden is very good too with a river flowing through it.
Any way the beer went down very well the sandwich was thick crusty bread and very reasonable at i think 2.80.
Would definitely visit this unusual pub again but it would be very hard to find as it is tucked away and one would need an ordnance survey map to find Beck Hole.
Wish i could have had several pints here but did not have time.

9 Aug 2010 21:01

The Queen Catherine, Osmotherley

Only had time for one pint which was Tetley cask and was very nice. I was quite surprised there was only one cask ale on offer.
Only a handfull of drinkers on this Sunday afternoon but if i had the time and was not driving i would liked to have had more.

26 Jul 2010 20:00

Burton Arms, Driffield

Had an evening meal here twice as we stayed at the near by camp site.
We were made to feel welcome on both nights.
Food was good and i would recomend. Although it is very slightly higher price wise to other good pub foods but that was the only downturn.

Children are welcom but only till 2100hrs

23 Jul 2010 13:12

Green Dragon, Beverley

A warm welcome is what we got on this weekday around lunch time. And as expected there were only around half a dozen people in at the time but as the pub is so long there was not a problem finding a seat and there were plenty to choose from.
There were i think seven real ales and as i could not make my mind up the bar man pulled me a few samples while he got my Wife's cider.[First time i have not had to ask if i could taste one or two]After all i opted for Tetley cask but could have had any of the other two i had sampled as they were refreshing enough.
The Tetley was just at the right temperature and held it's head down the glass.
I had Cumberland sausage with mash and parsnips the Wife had a plough mans and both were very nice.
It's a pub one could stay in all night with the range of different drinks on offer and the friendly bar staff. Very recommended

14 Jul 2010 18:56

The Crown Inn, Oxford

easy to miss as has been mentioned. A couple of cask ales which are nice food very cheap had to liquid lunches first a chicken curry and a pint for 4.99 next day fish and chips think it was 6.95. Friendly staff regulars kept themselves to themselves. Would go again

9 May 2010 20:47

The Four Candles, Oxford

Large selection of cask. As the name suggests it's taken from the famous two Ronnie's sketch with a frame in the pub of a folk handle some o's and four candles with various pictures of the two Ronnie's.

Beer was good clientele hmmm but a nice pub overall. Made me smile.

9 May 2010 20:40

The White Hart, Wolvercote

Popped in on a Friday night for a meal as the sign outside said it served food ordred a pint and asked what food they had . Chicken curry beef curry or pizzas was the answer no menu nothing.

Definatly a locals pub some looked like they had just left work and come in for a drink even though it was gone eight on a Friday night.

Supped up and went into the red lion across the road. for a good meal and friendly staff.

9 May 2010 20:12

Plough, Wolvercote

went to this pub on 8th May in the evening. Service with a smile [not] had a pint of Hardy Hanson's bitter which i did not enjoy. Was going to order an evening meal but felt uncomfortable so decided not to. The prices were a bit dear for pub food too.

It's an old pub with old furniture and a full wall covered with old books in the restaurant area.

Can say i would give it a miss if I'm ever in the area again

9 May 2010 20:04

Jacobs Inn, Oxford

Went to this pub twice in two days. Had an evening meal both nights were meals were very good with good helpings.

A nice pint of ringwood bitter there were also Hobgoblin and another cask ale but i think it was Brakspear. But the Ringwood was very well kept so stayed on that.

The toilets were very clean and too.

9 May 2010 19:50

Nags Head, Mickleover

Did not have any food but had a nice pint of pedigree. A large pub looks to have been decorated recently to a good standard. It looked very popular with diners and there was a good mixture from the young to the older generation went in on a Friday and Saturday nights and on both nights buisness was booming

26 Oct 2009 21:45

The Vine Inn, Mickleover

Visited on Friday 23rd Oct at night. My first thoughts was how strange this pub was. I was in what i would have called the main room or lounge but this pub had around 3 other small rooms off each of the corridors and a outside terraced area covered outside i presume for the smokers this was full of younger people around the 20 something mark and there was also a flat screen tv hung up outside. Any way the room i was in was what i would call regulars all the seating was around the walls of the room very unusual as no one was stood in the room but seated facing each other. The locals were friendly and so was the staff i think it was 3 real ale beers to choose from which were served perfectly and the ale was well kept just at the right temp.I was going to go in the next night but it was a complete opposite the Friday when every one was seated this time i gave it a miss as it looked at bursting point

26 Oct 2009 21:38

Masons Arms, Mickleover

Stopped in Mickleover over the weekend of 23rd Oct 09.

Me and my Wife visited this pub twice the first time on the Friday evening. The pub was well populated but not bursting at the seems the choice of real ales was good with 4 to choose from i had a ruddles the wife her usual cider which both went down well.

We visited again on the Saturday this time early well around 1900hrs as on the Friday it was gone 2200hrs. We had a meal a starter and a main course soup for me prawn cocktail the wife and we both had fish and chips main only came to 19.odd for a starter and main for two which i might add defeated us both as we could not finish the main as it was a very generous offering.

All the staff were very pleasant as well as the regulars in this well run pub.Well worth a visit

26 Oct 2009 21:25

Plough Inn, Sipson

Went in this pub on Saturday 22nd Aug. Nice hand pulledd pint of London pride. It's a small pub but has a great beer garden large plenty of tables and flowers around the garden in hanging baskets.

It has a small menue but i did not eat at the pub but there were plenty of people who were.

All in all it's worth a visit

25 Aug 2009 21:21

The Three Magpies, Heathrow

Went in on Staurday 22nd and Sunday 23rd had a meal and a few drinks on Saturday beer was nice so was the cider pepsi for the children. Food was reasonably priced and plenty of it. Bar staff are polite. The pub could do with a bit of a face lift although it is clean it is old.

On Sunday went in for a few drinks again friendly bar staff and nice ale.

I don't often visit London but if i do again would definatly visit this pub for a meal and a pint agian

25 Aug 2009 21:16

George Hotel, Hull

Beer kept in great condition. Food is good too.

The post by oldboots about the clientele i think he/she must have visited in the lunch time as the pub is situated near all the solicitors offices, it's a different scenario in the evening when some of the tables a removed and the pub is made wider for standing customers.

I do believe free wi-fi is available too

7 Jul 2009 21:58

The Swordsman Inn, Stamford Bridge

Had a pint and some food. beer was not bad but the food was quite poor to say the least. Had chips peas carrots and fish. Chips were rubbery peas and carrots tasteless. The other half wanted the same as me which was ordered only for the barmaid to come back and say we have not got another fish and chips so my o.h chose something else and the barmaid said we need another pound off you because your second choice is a pound more.

Don't think we will revisit this pub again

6 Jul 2009 16:19

Marleys, Hull

went in on a hot Saturday afternoon, was impressed with the smart decor. The only down side of this was that out side was a sign for cask ales. What a let down when one goes in and finds only one cask ale what was out as the label on the pump was turned towards the bar staff. Maybe will venture again but if there are still no cask it will be my last vist

26 Jun 2009 21:48

The Bay Horse, Hull

Also visited as a stranger on a Saturday afternoon. Several locals in the bar all chatting to the bar man /landlord? ordered xb pulled lovely with a small head on seemed to go flat quite quick but tasted ok. Would viit again. It was friendly enough

14 Jun 2009 21:00

The Punch Hotel, Hull

Decent pub last visited on a Saturday night and surprisingly it had around 4 people in. An average pint of Marstons.

The decor inside has been recently done and to a high standard.

Busy at lunch times. the food is good.

Well worth a visit
