Decent Fullers pub thats wasted in Slough. Think its fair to say Sloughs never been the greatest place for boozers, I went on a recent pub crawl to bring back some old memories having gone to school in nearby Langley.
Jesus whats happened?,nearly every pub has shut or has been built on, a few years back Slough was getting, dare I say it quite lively, bars /pubs springing up everywhere now its a desolate wasteland for drinkers, you can almost see the tumbleweed blowing down the high street.
Chicagos, Yates, The Floral, Goose, Pied Horse all gone to name but a few and I could go on and on, I know they`re not everyones cup of tea but at least you could get a drink.
Dont Poles drink in pubs??

Proper quirky old pub, not many of these places left anymore, unfortunately
9 Jun 2011 17:51
I much prefer old spit and sawdust places but even I had to draw the line with this place. Went there a few years back and it was packed, typical Irish pub now its probably as grim a pub as i`ve been to. The place was dead ,I was the only person in it, think who ever owns it needs to spend a few bob tarting the place up, I dont want to offend anyone but it really is a bit of a khazi in its present state.

Popped in recently for the first in time in about 10 years and was shocked, what was once a tiny little room sized pub had been massively extended. Have to say i really enjoyed my visit, very friendly chatty bloke behind the bar and a load of characters supping away which was good to see as it was as a tuesday lunchtime. Definitely recommend this pub and will go again

Sorry you cant read the reviews, they`ve been deleted, funnily enough the suspect pro comments still remain, funny that
8 Jul 2010 09:37
Was once a regular in the pre -refurb Ostrich, now find it too upsetting to even go in there. Always read the reviews avidly and I think its been blatantly obvious that the horrendous refurb had been an absolute disaster ,and to say its been universally unpopular is an understatement.
There was no consultation from the new owners, straight in they came and brutally stripped centuries of character almost overnight and they actually believe its better, what an absolute joke. LOOK AT THE REVIEWS
This is the third oldest pub in England,a listed building, one of the last traditional coaching inns to boot, how on earth did English Heritage allow this to happen??... very very sad
8 Jul 2010 09:24
Visited a few weeks ago, first time there in about ten years. Very welcoming pub, nice atmosphere and great free grub on the bar, must visit more often
4 Feb 2010 21:34
Traditional pub ,always good on Fulham match days. Great for the riverside pub crawl. The staff are friendly and its nice to see a proper pub still hanging in there, long may it continue
4 Feb 2010 21:16
Visited recently and seen its up for sale, shame, replace the fireplace spruce it up a bit and im sure it could be a great little pub again. Heard rumours that people are eyeing it up to convert it into a house, how many more pubs are going to bite the dust?, crying shame if it happens
11 Oct 2009 20:08
Totally agree with previous comment, absolute khazi, i thought i was in Warsaw, was served by a girl who barely spoke English and had two or three naughty looking Polish skinheads looking me up and down like i had two heads, i doubt i`ll ever go in there again.
11 Oct 2009 19:57
Very decent little boozer, one of the best pubs in the area although i can safely say that if there is a place in Britain that has shittier pubs than nearby Hayes, i have yet to find it.
10 Oct 2009 22:29
Please disregard the comments below, i have just realised i`ve left a comment about the wrong pub (idiot), i was refering to the pub/restaurant called the Mote right next to the beach in the village.
The Crows Nest was infact the friendliest pub in Port Isaac by a million miles, the landlord and staff were very helpful and the view was brilliant. Its a bit more down to earth than a lot of places around there.
9 Oct 2009 09:55
Either i walked into a completely different pub or im guessing this place has changed beyond recognition from the previous comments. My wife and i recently spent our honeymoon in Port Isaac, beautiful little place. Was looking forward to checking out the pubs, had visions of lobster pots and salty old sea dogs belting out sea shantys, well nothing could be further from the truth. The place had some sort of north african theme going on???, it was like walking into some poncey bar down the Kings Road which figures because i presume half the village is probably owned by well off London types.
Bit sad really because most of the tourists visit to see this lovely little Cornish fishing village, im sure they would want to see a pub thats authentically Cornish as opposed to some some pretentious gastro/pub?? that could be anywhere?.. or perhaps im wrong.
9 Oct 2009 09:44
blue_scrumpy absolute dive????, dont know what sort of establishments you normally frequent ? but absolute dive its definitely not, not everyones cup of tea granted and if you want a pint of warm real ale dont go, if you like decent music then thats another story.

The Bricklayers Arms, Brentford
Met a few Brentford pals before the Wycombe game and was shocked to see this place had been turned into flats, in the old days it was were all the Brentford nutters drank. Looked a bit forlorn now
16 Mar 2009 21:18
Love this place, still find it quite strange that one of my favourite pubs is in Slough of all places, not somewhere you associate with good pubs.
I dont get there that often but when i do the staff are always friendly as are the locals and the paddy landord is an absolute diamond.
13 Mar 2009 21:37
ladyday you`ll be happy to hear its now closed. I`m a little confused, yes the pub attracted a few herberts in the past but I know Gordon and Jules the ex custodians well and im telling you theres no way on earth he would allow half the crap you claim happened there. This guy turned around some of the worst pubs in Liverpool and the East End and he just wouldnt tolerate it.
I cant deny the clientelle could be a bit dodgy but it was a working mens pub, always was unfortunately its gone, i doubt it`ll re-open, no passing trade, no music license etc, just another pub gone like loads of other
13 Mar 2009 21:09
In reply to Tombsie you might not be sad mate but a lot of others will. Drank down there for years and it wasn`t just a good pub it was a great pub. It was different and not just another generic town centre chav magnet. Unfortunately i`ve been told its going downhill quickly, it was the best music pub around, although it didnt have an ideal lay out. Totally agree about the oik factor though, that was one of the reasons i dont go there too much nowadays
6 Feb 2009 21:03
Now gone, completely flattened, it was there one minute and literally gone the next. Ok the Ram wasn`t the classiest place and wont be missed by too many people but i personally still find it very sad as another local boozer bites the dust. I think in 25 years people are going to ask what were pubs? because the way things are going there isn`t going to be any left.
25 Nov 2008 16:37
Absolutely spot on CaptainMorgan, though i must warn you to expect your review (and this) to be removed, as were the overwhelming majority of negative comments regarding that diabolical refurb. Ancient historic coaching inn transformed into an ikea showroom!!, beggars belief
2 Jun 2008 21:18
Thought I`d pop in and take a look on friday, heard loads about the dodgy refurb. The place was practically empty, this at 8.30 on a friday night. There seemed to be a distinct lack of younger people in there, perhaps that was the reason for the revamp. I must admit I quite liked the old Vine, drank there on and off for many years, not sure as to why the change of image, it was very popular as a sports type bar, now just seems to be another ponced up local pub .
17 Feb 2008 15:08
The Famous 3 Kings (F3K), West Kensington
Great place for watching sport, saw Fulham lose another away game at Boro. There seems to be little bars and alcoves showing different games everywhere. Ony gripe is I dont think I could afford to spend a night there, bog standard bottled beers are 3.50, bloody scandalous
10 Feb 2008 16:11
Martin Shaw are you for real?, you really do come across as being a total prick. You swan around pubs in predominantly working class areas making quite offensive comments about the locals you encounter. What are you expecting?, a roaring fire perhaps?, or maybe a load of braying rahs talking about hiking in the Cotswolds. Its Uxbridge and Hillingdon mate, not Henley on Thames. The Prince is a nice earthy local pub, nothing more, nothing less and as for harbouring known drug dealers, you really are talking out of your backside
8 Feb 2008 16:06
According to its Myspace site the Treaty leasehold is up for sale. Have to say I`m absolutely gutted, Dave the landlord has achieved legendary status following on from Debbie. The Treaty is the best music pub for miles and the only genuine alternative establishment in a sea of chavdom. You only have to visit on weekends to see how popular the pub is. My only hope is Dave sells it on to a like minded person or we lose a local institution, it would break my heart to see the pub go "normal".
25 Jul 2007 18:39
The Old Suffolk Punch, Hammersmith
I use the pub occasionaly before Fulham games and the previous comments surprise me. If the landlady is the maori looking lady then shes always struck me as being pretty friendly and pleasant. Apologies if I`m getting people mixed up
24 May 2007 18:01
Visited recently for the first time in about eight years and was completely gobsmacked, what was once a great riverside traditional pub now is a completely souless tarted up rah magnet.
6 May 2007 12:53
The Hope and Anchor, Islington
Nice unponcified pub with a cracking jukebox with a refreshing lack of RnB tripe on it.The last time I came here was after Fulham getting mullered at Highbury a few years back, and me being equally mullered didnt get to appreciate it. This time it was first pub on the list , it still has that musicy alternative vibe.
30 Apr 2007 21:17
I feel a bit of an idiot telling my mates about this pub I visited on holiday that was centuries old only to find out it was built in 1959.
30 Apr 2007 21:02
Excellent guirky little pub, loads of wood panelling and little alcoves hiding around every corner . Completely out of place in Reading town centre
27 Apr 2007 12:34
The Watering Hole, Perranporth
Great sandlocked bar in a pretty little Cornish village, visited recently and would love to go in the height of summer, ice cold beer ,miles of sand and watching the waves rolling in,who needs Bondi ? happy days.
27 Apr 2007 12:30
Similar tale to the other posters, drove past many times and never ventured in until last night.I was on my way back from Wimbledon so it was nice to find an attractive pub with a traditional feel and I will definitely visit again
27 Apr 2007 12:24
Visited on sunday 1st april to see mates band the Veenex play a shambolic set( no fault of their own, I hasten to add)The place was absolutely rammed and unbelievably there were six bands booked which probably explains the crush, god knows what time the last one came on.There was a big problem with the PA which made for an interesting night. Little word of advice to the piss taking indie sterotypes near the jukebox, it had nothing to do with the band chaps
4 Apr 2007 13:37
superb Paul Daniels lookalike seving behind the bar which is amazing considering he lives in Wargrave
13 Mar 2007 19:40
lovely old pub, proof that going gastro doesn`t mean you have to rip the character out of a pub
13 Mar 2007 19:36
The best music pub for miles around. Drank there for years , even played for the football team in the early nineties. It was about this time when it started to get the music buzz. The guys from Freakscene, the indie disco which originally played at Hillingdon cricket club decamped to the Swan and Bottle then the on to the Treaty. I haven`t been there much now for a while but still get there now and then and will definitely be there saturday for mates band the Veenex.Only criticism is its heaving down there most weekends but I suppose its down to being the only pub in Uxbridge where you`ll hear good music, keep up the good work Dave, I would hate to see the Treaty change
13 Mar 2007 15:27
I dont mind the the occasional pint in the Hut but turned up with my brother at 10.10 on a tuesday night and was amazed to find no admittance after 10 . Four other blokes also tried to get in and were turned away. This surely has to be some kind of wind up, it was a tuesday night the pubs off the beaten track and I dont think you get much bother there. Could understand if it was friday or saturday but a tuesday??
1 Mar 2007 21:52
The Hope and Anchor, Hammersmith
Unpretentious back street boozer, a bit tatty but thats part of its charm, one of the few old style pubs left in the area, hope it stays that way
4 Feb 2007 12:31
Went in for the first time prior to the Fulham v Newcastle game, cant believe I`ve never been in here before. A proper pub with great musical heritage, hope it stays that way because you never know when a gastro refurb is about to strike. Will definitely use before Fulham games and look forward to seeing my mates band the Vee nex play there on Feb 27th.
4 Feb 2007 12:25
Another victim of the poncey Fulham makeover, looked like Del and Rodney were let loose with that battleship grey paint again.
20 Jan 2007 21:06
Haven`t been for a while but can see how people love it and others hate it. Its a little overwhelming if you go in sober but if you`ve had a few you can have a brilliant night. The toilets are appalling and without sounding like an angry whinging pom it is annoying having some aussie stereotype barging into you, but hey,, when in Rome .Find it kind of amusing people moaning about an aussie pub in the worlds most cosmopolitan city
18 Jan 2007 20:12
The Bricklayers Arms, Shoreditch
My girlfriend and I had to leave because some braying female fashion victims upstairs were getting right up my nose with their ultra loud/irritating okay yah twaddle. They wouldn`t have been seen dead there ten years ago
2 Dec 2006 19:27
Went in before the Pompey v Fulham game and really liked it. As an away fan finding a decent pub where you dont get any bother in Portsmouth can be quite tricky Nice old buiding with a maritime feel which is not surprising seeing where its situated, will definitely head for there next season providing Fulham dont get relegated.
26 Nov 2006 19:51
not a bad Irish bar, its a bigger version of Currans in Hayes. Its a bit bland inside but has quite a friendly atmosphere, reckon band nights there could be really lively
26 Nov 2006 19:31
I have to wholeheartedly agree with dougieboard. I went in on friday 24th with my girlfriend. I`ve passed it loads of times and never been in so was keen to see what it was like because its a really nice looking old buiding with a lot of character. As soon as we walked in we got the stares from a load of pissed up youg herberts, one in particular was effin and blinding so loud you could hear him in the street.I have to say I was really surprised as to how moody the pub was with loads of chavvy donuts given the place a real edgy feel. The place was rundown and the tables were filthy which is a shame because it could be a great pub, I see the leasehold is for sale maybe someone will come in and sort this place out
26 Nov 2006 19:25
The Blue Peter, Bloubergstrand
Went here nearly two years ago during Englands victorious cricket tour of South Africa. Its one of the best places in SA for sundowners, there is a beer garden that overlooks one of the best views imaginable, miles of white sand and the majestic Table Mountain in the distance towering over the beautiful city of Cape Town, there`s also a great view of Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned. The pub itself is nothing spectacular to look at but it has two floors, the upper deck has an restuarant and bar while the lower deck has a light airy bar with tv screens and bar food. The strange thing was when we walked in Fulham v Crystal Palace was live on the screens, as mad Fulham fans my mate and I couldnt believe it, we both laughed and got stuck into ice cold bottles of Windhoek watching Fulham beat Palace in freezing cold London while we watched in this magnificent setting.
20 Nov 2006 21:20
Surprised no-ones posted anything about this pub but Gordon from the Turks Head has taken over,a top bloke and excellent landlord so I expect this place to be buzzing soon.
12 Nov 2006 19:22
I`m really surprised no-ones really got hold of this pub and spent some money on it because its got tons of potential. Its a nice building and could be real good proper pub ( not a bar) Went there in the summer and never realised it had a dusty unused basement bar overlooking the riverside garden, it could be great place for summer gigs, only problem might be the residents moaning about the noise
12 Nov 2006 19:08
Absolutely amazing looking pub, it looks ancient and is a bit like the tardis inside, there are little alcoves and doors leading off everywhere. If this pub was in London it would be ripe for a poncey plastic re-furb so lets hope no suit gets any ideas because old places like this are becoming a thing of the past
24 Oct 2006 19:26
Agree with Oldsod, went in there on a monday night and it was packed, everywhere else in the town was practically deserted .Young sort of studenty crowd in there.
24 Oct 2006 19:20
lovely old 15th century pub and very quiet when we went in there I think everyone in the town was in the standard
24 Oct 2006 19:16
Chanced across this bar with my girlfriend before going to see the Woman in black. I stood at the bar for about five minutes while a barmaid cleaned glasses, I was the only person at the bar waiting, she glanced at me but never made no attempt to acknowledge my prescence, I started to get a little pissed off ,I gave the money to my girlfriend while I went to the toilet when I came back she said a barman rudely beckoned her over and then served her.I know serving people in busy pubs is hard work, I know ,I`ve done it but there has to be some sort of customer service training, too many barstaff in London haven`t got a clue, if serving people in busy pubs pisses you off, get another job
15 Oct 2006 11:00
I used to work with an old fella who worked in the old wharf warehouses in Wapping many years ago, he told me there was once 30 pubs on and around the high street and they all were packed with dockers . I visited Wapping for the first time today and was surprised to find the strangest London High Street I`ve ever visited, there were no shops just old warehouses that had been turned into homes for the well heeled, it was a little eerie and very quiet. Found this pub though and absolutely loved it, it was a relic from them old days and one of the few links to the past, a long narrow bar and a small terrace/garden overlooking the river, a classic London pub I just hope it never gets the poncey makeover that is sweeping across London pubs like wildfire
3 Aug 2006 21:47
Wasn`t complaining, just stating a fact, glad you liked it though but its totally different to the pub I remembered and as the cliche goes ,its all about opinions.
21 May 2006 15:23
Would occasionaly go there before football, gutted to see another traditional pub assimilated into ponceville, resistance is futile, or so it seems
18 May 2006 20:48
popped in there for the first time on friday and thought it was ok. Mate told me it was chav free but despite having an awesome jukebox it was playing constant RnB bollocks. Strange sort of crowd in there, few alt kids mixed in with trendies and boyz from the hood wannabes, nice burger though
14 May 2006 12:36
Its like a country pub 3 miles from the West End went in there with a Chelsea mate recently and was a little jealous that this pub couldn`t be transported a mile nearer Craven Cottage because its wasted on that lot, only joking lads , seriously, its a lovely pub
3 May 2006 19:41
Will definitely pop down there at some stage, the only other decent music pup in the whole area is the Treaty in Uxbridge so it`ll make a change to go somewhere else.
3 May 2006 19:27
Recommended to me by a mate well into his music so I was a little disappointed when I popped in there for the first time on sunday. Thought it might have a bit more of an alternative feel but it came across as being a bit poncey. To be fair I was only there briefly so theres probably more to it than meets the eye, apparently Hard-Fi drink in there as well
2 May 2006 19:16
Really surprised to see the Brook becoming a bit of an indie music pub . I haven`t been there for a few years but in the old days it could get a bit lively if you know what I mean
2 May 2006 18:50
Ullage you sum up perfectly what I feel is happening to our old watering holes. In years to come when all traditional pubs are just a distant memory some bright sparks gonna come up with an idea of a traditional London theme pub.
29 Apr 2006 21:33
Went there last night and it was like the old treaty, blinding sounds from the Arctic Monkeys to the Pixies, still pretty packed though but not as bad as it has been mainly thanks to non admittance after 12 which has stopped hordes of people turning up at all hours
29 Apr 2006 12:30
The Hope and Anchor, Islington
I think we literally fell in here once after seeing Fulham get stuffed at the Arse. I was pretty drunk but I remembered a pub which had good music and an alternative feel to it and looking at the photo I`m pretty sure its the one.As a huge Smiths and Pixies loving no- mark (whats a no-mark?)I will definitely return soon and hopefully I`ll remember a bit more this time.
27 Apr 2006 21:05
The Old Suffolk Punch, Hammersmith
Back in the day this was where the old man and his mates would meet for a pre match drink before subjecting themselves to 90 minutes of frustration at the Cottage. In those days it was the Rifle then the Golden Gloves when the Mancini brothers owned it, that was when I first went in there, it was full of boxing memorabilia and London character now its just another tarted up place that could be anywhere. The staff are friendly enough and the grub isn`t too bad , if thats what you want in a pub. It would be nice for breweries to try and retain some sort of character when they give pubs a makeover and dont just assume that everybody likes faceless poncey conversions
27 Apr 2006 20:03
went in after the Ashes test and couldn`t believe how much it has changed. Another traditional London boozer poncified out of all recognition. In years to come when all pubs are like this someones gonna come up with an idea of a London theme pub and change em back
21 Apr 2006 22:39
went in there recently for the first time in ages and it was ok. Pretty sure it once had one of those wooden makeovers now its seems like its gone traditional again. There is a great view of the Wembley stadium arch down the hill as well
15 Apr 2006 11:42
The Coningham Arms, Shepherds Bush
used this pub during Fulhams two year stay at Loftus Road. Its a proper football pub like the kind we used to have in pre- yuppie Fulham, its also a big Irish bar and the paddies know how to serve customers in packed bars unlike the charmless antipodeans who seem to serve in 98% of London pubs, all in all I quite miss this pub
13 Apr 2006 20:51
this used to be a regular haunt for myself and some of the chaps after Fulham games a few years back especially when the weather was nice, so I was a little disappointed when I went in there recently for the first time in about 6 years. The pub used to have a blinding jukebox and there was a crowd of indie student types who used to go there who seem to have been replaced by a bunch of okey yah merchants, also its had the Crabtree and Star and Garter treatment , now just another yuppie pub
12 Apr 2006 21:56
Totally agree with misty`s review. Went there for the first time recently and waited increduously as people who had sat down 25mins after we had ordered were served before us. When I asked if there was any chance we might get our food this week I got a shitty look, when it finally arrived there was no apology . Shame because the food was quite nice
3 Apr 2006 17:08
Interested to read some of the bollocks below. Yes its a locals pub and a little tatty but there are a lot of good people in there. As for being rough I`ve never seen a proper fight in there ,oh yeah, I must apologise for being a second rate tenant from a council
25 Mar 2006 00:11
went there for the first time since the extensions and refurb and was surprised to see it packed, in the old days it was a very quiet pub. The burger was awesome
24 Mar 2006 23:55
Went on a bit of crawl with mates a few years back and stumbled across this place. I must say I really liked it, quite fancied the barmaid too, think her old man owned it. Went back about a year later and was a bit gutted to see she weren`t there. but Wendy Richard was ,playing crib with some old biddies
24 Mar 2006 20:33
stumbled across this pub a couple of years back, it reminded me of those pubs you get in Ireland that have greengrocers and bike repair shops in them, very quirky
23 Mar 2006 21:17
The Eight Bells, Putney Bridge
Great old London pub, was a regular haunt in the pre Al Fayed days, now the old bill designate it as an away fans pub
23 Mar 2006 21:14
had some good nights here, can never get used to pissed up aussies pushing past you though, we say excuse me in England
22 Mar 2006 22:30
one of the best pubs in London, once saw a seriously pissed Jimmy White in there, which was good
22 Mar 2006 22:21
my dad and his mates have drunk there for forty years, he`s a Fulham FC yob?. It was people like him who kept the pub going in the days before the rahs and the office bods turned up when the area suddenly became fashionable. Much preferred the old Crabtree with its traditional Thames side feel, not too keen on pubs with sofas and poxy plants or surly antipodean barstaff
22 Mar 2006 22:16
Remember seeing one of the worst pub fights ever there in the eighties, been back a few times since and its a nice traditional pub
22 Mar 2006 21:08
Myself and a few mates went in there last year, loved the jukebox. I initially thought the Landlord was a bit miserable but I couldn`t have been more wrong. We went to buy a big round but he had already payed for them, it was a real top gesture, and something I`ve never had before from a bloke you`ve just met. Haven`t been to Slough much since but will always pop in there when in town
22 Mar 2006 21:02
I like the Met, you get a studenty type crowd in there, no aggro, in complete contrast to that chav magnet across the road
22 Mar 2006 20:40
Haven`t been in there for three years but we used to go in there occasionaly before watching Fulham. Mates dad had been drinking in there for years, will go again soon and hopefully its been tarted up a bit because it was a bit grotty
22 Mar 2006 13:08
Stayed there recently and it was briliant. Ancient and friendly and the rooms were good as well, proper Cornish pub
22 Mar 2006 13:01
proper old pub with loads of history, it caters for the older crowd and its a good place for a quiet beer
21 Mar 2006 22:30
If you like your music this is the best pub for miles around. It has a real alternative feel, death metal nights or indie, plus some good live stuff it caters for the crowd who thinks RnB and chart music is shit. The only downside is ,it gets ridiculously packed especially now it stays open til 4. This in turn has attracted a few herberts who wouldn`t have drunk there before, and the new guy seems happy to cram as many bodies in there as possible which has pissed off a few of the old school
21 Mar 2006 22:19
Amused to read the 2004 review by some character called Ian Painter calling Fulham fans moronic , well I dont know about that. Great tradional back street London boozer, packed for Fulham home games and one of the few pubs in the area that hasn`t been yuppified out of all recognition into the sort of poncey hole that Mr Painter obviously prefers
21 Mar 2006 21:42
Drank in there occasionanlly before football and despite being the closest pub to Craven Cottage not very football friendly, or it wasn`t when we had had some 17stone Afrikaaner telling we couldn`t come in last year. Took a South Afican girl I was going out with in there and she quite loked it though
21 Mar 2006 21:32
The Red Lion Hotel, Hillingdon
Still find it hard to go in here after what they did to this place. It was totally gutted and hundreds of years of history erased, oh well no preservation only progress
21 Mar 2006 21:19
The Ostrich Inn, Colnbrook
Just found out the pub I used to love and spent many a happy night in is up for sale. I have never wanted to win the lottery so much in my life. I`m just hoping whoever buys it restores it back to the traditional, ancient, coaching inn reeking with character myself and a lot of disgruntled regulars miss so much.
I`ve set foot once in there in eight years due to one of the ponciest unsympathetic refurbs I`ve ever had the misfortune to witness..
