Great Pub... I visited with other Leicester City fans on an away day @ Fulham FC. The pub looked great, but pretty small, so not great when absolutely rammed. We had a few beers in the Wadworth's Kings Head round the corner as well.. Not as atmospheric, but easier to get served and decent beer (6X, IPA etc....) Barrow_Beer_Hunter - 6 Dec 2018 15:06 |
This is a brilliant pub. The young, friendly and energetic staff make you feel welcoem. Sarah, the Manager is gold dust. She is everything landladies of pubs used to be but 40 years younger. Loves to chat, makes you feel welcome and runs a tight ship. This is a no nonsense old school pub, resisting the gastro invasion. The food is brilliant and stunning value. This is tthe kind of pub that we need to make sure survives. Can't believe anybody would leave this boozer harbouring any complaints. It is a great, old school boozer. curleysue - 3 May 2016 22:40 |
My review from nigh on 12 years ago says "A trad family-friendly place with an esoteric food menu, a limited range of Real Ales, and a nautical/river theme to the decorations. Packed when others in the area were half-empty so it must be doing something right." The Eight Bells, I was pleased to see, hasn't changed a lot except that the nautical theme I don't think was as prevalent. Practically next door to a chain hotel so it probably gets the custom from there. Bar staff were nice. I had London Pride which seemed the most authentic choice- the others were a couple of 'Cornish' import beers. The name 'Eight Bells' is supposed to refer to the church nearby but I wonder if it also refers to the pub's being a stop-off point for sailors heading from Portsmouth to London or vice versa. Just a historical point there. rainlight - 12 Jul 2015 08:19 |
Sadly I never had the opportunity to try this highly rated pub as the two bouncers and landlady refused my Dad and I entry giving no plausible reason other than it was booked out for an evening function later on that day. At the time customers were still being served by staff and the pub was about half full, while for the sake of two half pints, they could of easily accommodated us. I was left very disappointed with the customer service. jimmyb1986 - 1 Jan 2015 19:43 |
A fabulous pub, discovered by a rugby club outing to Twickenham staying locally. Good choice of beers - Spitfire, London Pride and Doombar regrettably not in the best of condition, but an extremely welcoming pub - both staff and punters. When we stay in Putney next year for rugby this will be our base. Better quality beer would have got a 9/10 Thewriter - 27 Feb 2014 19:20 |
