I wrote about this pub again but some clown reported me for telling the truth. Please people visit this pub so you know how bad it is, but be prepared if you write a second review it will get reported as they don't like the truth. I may help this pub brew it's own beer and buy some homebrew called Geordie from Wilkinson.
Excellent pub, nothing wrong with the beers I had, in fact I thought they were very good value. Good range of customers and all seemed happy. Cheery staff and more interesting food than most. A bit frayed at the edges but I prefer that to a pubco makeover.
This guy should bottle this crap beer and use it as toilet cleaner. Thought I'd give this place a chance but!!! It's as most people say,CRAP!!! Gave my pint back and told them to get the experts in.
Really grubby pub, not surprised to see that there's no Food Hygiene Certificate on display! Can't comment on the food as I didn't risk trying it. The only draught beer available is from there own home brew and it is abysmal. Comet appears to be a regular brew and it must be one of the worst examples of a light beer I have ever tasted, very thin, tasteless apart from a weird antiseptic background taste, I couldn't manage to finish even a half pint! All in all a pub worth avoiding. The place seems to be frequented by under 18's, hippies and people with no taste, like a reviewer who seemed to think they sold beer from lots of different breweries, what a clown. As for the price, you can get a pint in Wetherspoons for the same, but there's a big difference, the beer in Wetherspoons is top quality.
Visited last month and had a good Stout, curry and pleasant banter with lovely Glossop folk. A wonderful pub, irrespective of Beer Guide listing or lical politics. The beer shop nearby is great too.
Quite enjoy going here food is good tastes like authentic Indian curry to me!! I like the cider as well I am not a beer drinker so cannot comment on the quality of the beer. The bar staff are friendly and the place looks cosy and its atmosphere on the whole is fairly easy going i like the fact there is not a big telly vision set like some places have and you can get on and have a chat. I like the Irish night on Monday night. All in all if you fancy a nice bit of veggie nosh and a relaxing dring this is the place to go!
I'm independent and not a real ale drinker and just do lager/cider so please do not accuse me of having a vendetta. My friends who drink real ale said it was possibly the worst beer they have tasted and forced little old me to try, well to be quite frank I couldde where they were coming from. Was this beer made from all the peelings from the vegetables that you use to make the food? On a brighter note my cider was ok.
Called-in here this evening and enjoyed a pint of Sunset - a full-bodied, ruby red ale. Also enjoyed a pint of the pale Blondie. Both soaked-up by the ever-good chcik pea and spinach curry with fried rice. As usual service was efficient and friendly. 10/10.

The posting credited 'wobbIybob - 18 Oct 2013 12:20' is NOT from me and is obviously an attempt to mislead visitors to this site. If in doubt click on the name and you discover a solitary rating, click on mine and there are 299 ratings. What motivates someone to attempt such a deception? Maybe a vendetta?

Report from Glossop Pub Crawl on 03.05.2014: had the Porter (4.3%) and Imperial Stout (5.8%) - both of which were very good. The Mexican Bean Chilli was also very nice too. Nice pub with a nice vibe.
had the winter ale in the globe last night the beer was fabulous, great winter tasting beer at a great low price,i also had some of the food on offer, spicy mushrooms, rice and a portion of spicy spiral fries, the food I thought was great and inventive.can"t wait to go back to this pub again.
I was back in Glossop this week but forgot to visit the Globe as it had dropped out the beer guide. For the record, I wrote a very positive review 2 years ago, I didn't write the apparent disparaging one a year ago - someone has posted with a similar user nam, apparently a feature of this pubs BITE profile. Will definitely return now.
Well maybe it's because the positive comments are by well know reviewers who have posted on hundreds of pubs, but the negative ones are one-hit wonders or Glossop-only.
Not only that, but someone's trying to mislead readers that well-known posters have changed their minds, by using accounts in hard-to-spot similar names.
There may be some truth in the knocks, but the above's pretty stupid whatever.
I agree with Peter, the beer is abysmal here, just because a lot of people agree why should that amount to a vendetta???
There really are some idiots out there!
Why should anyone think there is a "vendetta" against this pub just because it has lots of really bad reviews? The reviews are a very accurate reflection of the abysmal quality of the beer brewed on the premises in this pub.
I was at the CAMRA branch meeting in February of this year when around 30 of us unanimously voted to excude this pub from the 2014 Good Beer Guide because of consistent bad quality of the beer.
Reading other comments, I cannot help thinking there is a certain vendetta against this pub!!

Makes me wonder too. The latest under your "name" is in fact a one-hit, with an upper-case "I" in place of the "L" so I assume it's not really you.
Perhaps you could confirm that.
Tried here again, must have been luck on my previous visit, food was still good but the draft beer was completely undrinkable, really awful.
Worst beer I have ever tasted, and I tried 3 of them and left them all. Toilets are dirty and smelly, best avoiding.
Just received the CAMRA 2014 Good Beer Guide, this place has, deservedly, been kicked out.
Unbelievable to read some of the reviews here! Anyone who thinks the beer brewed in this place is remotely acceptable should stick to drinking pasteurised keg lager. It really is a disgrace to describe this stuff as real ale, one of the descriptions below really sums up the taste, awful. At the last count Glossop has at least 7 pubs serving excellent real ale, this pub isn't one of them, stay well clear.

Returned here with some friends for a bite to eat and a drink. As usual there was a friendly welcome and efficient service. Tried three different cask ales: all were good, although one was not to the taste of one of our little party. The food was excellent and superb value: three starters, three mains and three sides for £20.20!
I have been here several times before and the experience has also been excellent. Reading other comments, I cannot help thinking there is a certain vendetta against this pub!!!
I really wanted to like this pub because of its brewery but as most people have said the beer is very poor. I had the blonde beer which tasted like a mixture of fairy liquid and pipe cleaner. I thought it might just be my drink but my missus had the darker beer and it had a similar kind of taste. I don't leave many beers but I left this. I don't want to slag anyone off but I feel the landlord needs to take on board some of these comments.
Been popping in here for the last 6 months or so to sample the beer (I've been a member of CAMRA for 11 years). The beer has not improved, in fact on some visits it really is undrinkable, at best it's a very bad attempt at brewing real ale, I've never come across a brewery that churns out such low quality beer. On my last visit I noticed they had been selling some Howard Town beer, unfortunately they had just sold out. The pub itself is pretty nice and traditional so it would be a big improvement if they started selling some good beer from other breweries rather than persisting in their hopeless attempt at brewing beer!
Agree with most of the comments below, really unwelcoming pub and Landlady. Modern parent veggie clientele. Very poor quality greasy, unhealthy veggie only food, can't be bothered to cater for non veggies. Beer brewed on site is disgraceful, tastes like it's got disinfectant in it. Only good point is it's closed all day on Tuesdays.
Miserable pub with an arrogant landlady and a landlord who doesn't seem to know what planet he's on. Probably explains why his home brew is crap. Don't waste your hard earned here.
Can't add much to previous comments, not only is the pub one of those weird "Vegan" only places, "don't mention meat" but the beer is undrinkable.
This pub is a Real Ale Nightmare. Probably some of the worst beer I have ever tasted, brewed in the pub I believe.
Visited with 3 friends and sampled the Amber, Blondie, Malt Ale and Toby Porter. We all agreed they were pretty much undrinkable with a sort of raw wheat taste to them. The only exception was the Porter which was just about drinkable, though hardly a fine example of this type of brew. Out of 4 pints, the 3 of us finished the Porter and left the rest, unlikely to be wasting our money here in the future.
I've tried this pub a few times over the years and the beer has never got any better. Very thin tasteless, with a very peculiar background taste, quite unpleasant. A few years ago they used to do "beer swaps" with other breweries which added to the variety, all that stopped some time ago because none of the other breweries wanted the beer brewed here, even if it was virtually free. A local Beer Festival made the mistake of putting some of this stuff on, at the end of the Festival they were completly sold out of beer, except for the beer from the Globe and ended up pouring three quarters of a barrel down the drain! The pub wouldn't be too bad if they just stopped trying to brew their own beer and bought some in from proper microbreweries.
Probably the worst pub in Glossop! Poor 1970's vegetarian only food, undrinkable home brew, generally run down. Oh, and if you do venture in, best to give the toilets a miss.
Came here Monday to give the beer a try. Agree with the comments below. The home brew stuff is really awful. Must be losing (lost) real ale drinkers, assume it just attracts veggies.
Please don't let some of the comments below entice you into this pub. The food I can't comment on, but the beer I can; it really is awful! Virtually every pub in Glossop offers real ale much better than in here. The place itself wouldn't be too bad if they just bought in some good real ale to serve rather than the amateur home brew they make themselves. I don't usually do reviews etc., but some of the comments here must be from people without taste buds.
Visiting friends in Glossop over Christmas and New Year so ended up on a pub crawl. This place was by far far the worst pub we visited. The home brewed beer must be made with the cheapest of ingredients, it was absolutely disgusting, thin and still had the disinfectant taste I remember from my visit a year ago. Anyone who drinks this rubbish may as well be drinking dish water!
Visited The Globe last night (29/12/2012). We found the beer to be rather fine and had several pints of Toby Porter and Amber. Unfortunately, the first pint of Toby Porter had to be changed as it had not been pulled through, but this was done without any issue and with due apology from the barman. Apart from this, all the beers were great! The vegetarian food was tasty and good value for money - the Veg Curry and Spicy Mushrooms were tried and enjoyed. The pub has a nice vibe and was the busiest of the night.
Cheap food! Cheap beer! Crap quality! What a dump!
I'm not a vegetarian, but a friend told me the food was good here. It's not! It's cheap as is the beer but neither are good. I tried the Chickpea & Spinach Curry, nothing like Indian veggie stuff I've had in the past. This was very oily, in a sauce probably out of a can and had never seen fresh spinach. Over seasoned, as was the greasy rice pretty hopeless attempt at a veggie curry. The beer was even worse, thin, tasteless, no malty body or characteristic hop taste a disgrace to call it "real ale" I suspect, like the curry it was made out of a can, really awful.
Just a general comment regarding BITE. Why have they stopped the comments from being uploaded on the home page - even on the live stream?
Not been in here since July of last year, recently passing through Glossop so I thought I'd pay a visit. Didn't try the food but the beer has really gone downhill since my visit last year. In fact I would go as far as to say it is undrinkable, not good at all. May give it a go in another year or so!
I've been tracking down micro breweries on my travels so I thought I'd try this place as I understand they brew their own beer. What a disappointment! I don't really know how they have the cheek to sell this stuff, it's certainly beyond me. Very thin tasteless beers, except for a disgusting smokey, disinfectant after taste. The porter was the only dark beer on and was just as bad. An absolutely disgraceful excuse for beer. Unbelievable considering they have their own brewery. Steer well clear.
Tried here again, no change really, didn't try the food but the beer, as usual, was disgusting crap. Landlady as obnoxious as ever and the Landlord on another planet. What a joke. Avoid!
Still the worst beer of any pub in Glossop, in fact I don't think I've tasted worse anywhere. This pathetic attempt to brew beer on the premises actually brings "real ale" into disrepute! Even John Smiths Smooth tastes better than this, and that really IS saying something. The beer here is complete rubbish.
Saw this pub had been included in the CAMRA 2013 Beer Guide, so thought I would give the place another go. Shouldn't have bothered! The Landlords home brewed beer is disgusting, foul tasting an absolute disgrace. How a respectable organization like CAMRA can include this place in the guide is beyond belief. Absolute crap!
Sounds like a sensible idea. Alternatively why dont you contact the moderators of BITE?
Already changed my password, but it hasn't worked. The post to realalerules1983 is not from me it's from him/her, sad individual.
Thanks for that realalerules1983. Am still mystified but changing my password may do the trick. Whoever is going on using my name should really be deleted from here as they are being very underhand. Shame on him/her.
@glossopowl I've had a think about this, and the only possible explanation is that you are on a shared computer. You must be logging on either at work or in a library, where others can use your pc, or that the pc remembers usernames and passwords etc.
Spinach and Chickpea curry wasn't made with fresh spinach, tasted and looked like Popeye style tinned. Also tasted a bit stale, rubbish. Home brewed beer bloody disgusting, foul taste, yuk. Overall the place is gruby, a bit smelly and well worth avoiding. Won't be visiting again.
@realalerules1983, you are right, I don't know how he's taken my identity. He is NOT Frank Wood, the man's a sad individual.
@glossopowl When registering your username it comes up if someone else already has that username. This makes me think it's highly unlikely that someone has the same username.
This is pathetic, someone else is now perpetrating to be me! I did not post the comment below!!!
I have been on this site since 2002 but on 30.8.12, some sad disgruntled person set up an account perpetrating to be me and made a comment that I have no wish to be associated with on this page. Constructive comments I am all for, criticisms too but setting up as someone else is pathetic. I agree that the Globe beers are not as they were when High Peak Branch selected the pub (not myself-a branch meeting of some 20+ people of which I am one). I am glosopowl on here and always have been. Shame on you if you aren't man enough to come on here as yourself instead of pinching someone elses identity. Frank Wood (glossopowl)
Not been here since last February and was persuaded to go in at the weekend with a friend. Thought I'd let my mate sample the beer, I tried the cider which was OK. Beer just as bad, if not worse than before, he didn't finish his half, needless to say unlikely to visit again until they can offer some decent beer, really bad!
Enjoyed a pint (Amber Light) and a delicious spinach and chickpea curry with fried rice for just 4.80 today. Later enjoyed the top-notch Toby Porter at 1.80 a pint. Superb. This friendly pub is always worth a visit. 10/10.
I pop into this traditional pub for the bottled Budvar which make a refreshing change from real ale. I'd given up long ago on the draught beer here because of the poor quality, but on my last visit I noticed they did a "keg" lager, so I thought I'd give it a try. Shouldn't have bothered it was absolutely disgusting, it really comes to something when I could actually say it would be more pleasant to drink Carlsberg or Fosters rather than this stuff. I have to agree with one of the comments below, whoever is trying to brew the beer here in need of some serious training in the art of brewing, at the moment he's doing a great job of turning away real ale drinkers from the pub. I only call in for the Budvar, which is not too easy to find and their beer garden is very pleasant, buts that's about it.
Got my 2013 Good Beer Guide last week and was rather surprised to see the Globe had been included. I've popped in to try the beer a few times over the last year and their hand pulled beer has always been terrible. Went in over the weekend and still just as bad, so I was pleased to see CAMRA have admitted on this site that the inclusion of The Globe was an oversight, well done, it always take a bit of bottle to admit you've got things wrong.
I thought this pub should have been included in the 2013 Good Beer Guide back in January of this year, however, since then the beer brewed here has been of consistently very poor quality, nowhere near to the standard expected by CAMRA. Unfortunately due to to an oversight the local branch, High Peak Camra, of which I'm a member have include the pub in the guide. I can only apologise on behalf of High Peak branch for this inclusion, and would like to stress to anyone visiting this pub that the beer brewed on the premises falls well short of the quality CAMRA, both locally and Nationally, expect.
This place is really impressive when you walk in, exactly what you expect a traditional British pub to be like. Two fairly big rooms with a sort of snug in the middle, nice beer garden with coloured sails as a canopy, only problem is that it's also the smoking area. As we weren't eating I wasn't bothered by the fact that it's Vegetarian only, I was more interested to sample the beer that is brewed on the premises. I've been to quite a few pubs around the country that have their own microbreweries and have always been impressed to taste some really characteristic local brews. Unfortunately that cannot be said about the beer here. I don't thing I've ever tasted such bad so called real ale. The three light beers I tasted were all identical, looked great after being pulled, but had little taste and no body, lacking in hops for a light beer and all had a sort of germolene aftertaste, could only manage a couple of mouthfuls of each one. Then I tried Toby Porter which was on, very dark and tasted initially OK, not the best porter I have tasted, but not too bad, but then, oh dear, the same germolene after taste started to creep through. What a shame, when somewhere like this could be one of the best real ale pubs in the area. I suggested whoever is responsible for attempting to brew this beer seriously needs to go on a professional brewing course.
Realalerules1983 - You simpleton! My review said JonCressy at the start, not sure where your confusion has arisen from!
Mrwetwet. I made them last comments (realalerules1983) not jon cressy! Lol I was simply aiming my comments @JonCressy
JonCressy - Im not sure what your point is to be honest. Your first review said the food was veggie rubbish, your second said it was quite good.
Nobody on here is treating you like the Antichrist, but expecting pork and lamb in a veggie pub is plaint daft!
That said, the landlord is a bit of a loon! I havnt met the landlady so cant comment.
@JonCressy I agree with Mrwetwet. The globe prides itself on being a vegan pub. You wouldn't expect to find beer in a temperance bar would you?
MrWetWet, and your point is what exactly? The veggie food here may be quite good, what really pisses me off is as soon as I mentioned meat I'm treated like the Antichrist. This never happens to vegetarians who visit non veggie restaurants, they are usually well accommodated for and looked after. The attitude of the Landlady is a disgrace.
JonCressy, what are you on?! The Globe is an excellant vegan pub, and serves tasty meals and ales. I understand if you dont like vegi versions, but dont complain when a vegan pub doesnt sell meat!
Went here at the weekend. Ended up up having an argument because I tried to point out that "sausages" were usually made of pork and "Hot Pot" is a traditional Lancashire dish made from neck of lamb and potatoes. i.e. not the veggie rubbish they do in this pub. Not surprisingly we quickly left, leaving our beer that was virtually undrinkable and tasted like it had disinfectant in it. In summary, the Landlady is a stupid, arrogant nasty piece of work (a bitch) and the Landlord doesn't seem to know what day of the week it is. Steer well clear!
The big attraction of this place should be the onsite vegan brewery. The Imperial Stout looks superb and the first mouthfull matches. By half way down the pint there is an odd after taste over powering all other flavours. Blondie is thin, little malt or hop flavour and the same funny aftertaste. This pub is still worth a visit, it has a great atmosphere and the very cheap (and tasty) vegan menu, but what should be the pubs jewel in the crown, the beer, is a big let down.
Not good, very poor beer and limited range of food. Draught cider was OK.
Visited Sunday lunch. Probably the worst beer I have tasted in quite some time, weird after taste, lacking in body and taste, really terrible.
I went on Sat 14th April 2012, had a couple of pints of Blondie and it was loveley and only 1.80, basic good very cheap vegitarian food, great band on upstairs, a fabulous pub, nice staff, great beer and VERY cheap
After reading some of the reviews , I had to try the beer brewed in this pub. I have to agree with the previous comments. Not only does each of the beers brewed in the pub have a terrible metallic, antiseptic after taste making them virtually undrinkable, but the brews themselves are not balanced in terms of malt and hops like good light beers should be. All in all a very poor attempt at brewing beer. A shame really as the pub itself is very traditional, although the Gents toilet is pretty unpleasant.
Horrible beer and smelly gents toilet, can't really say much more.
Visiting friends in Derbyshire who are vegetarians, and they suggested this pub to visit on Saturday evening. Very pleasant traditional pub and excellent good value food, unfortunately let down by the beer that the landlord brews on the premises. The first pint I ordered looked and, initially, tasted OK, but quickly gave way to an unpleasant taste. The bar staff were happy to change it for a different one, but this also had the similar after taste. Decided to settle for the bottled larger which was fine. In retrospect I should have noticed that, whilst the pub was very busy, the majority of customers were not drinking the pub brewed beer.
"Charles" comments are extremely misleading. He has his own agenda for the comments he makes, which are not fair to the licensees and the efforts they put in. Testament to them, the beers sell very well and the pub is always busy, probably one of the busiest in the town. The beer is NOT generally as he says. I go in there regularly and have had an occasional beer that is not right, but they will always offer to change it for another brand. In the past 6 months the beers have been of good quality.
Went back again one evening for a chilli. Food is excellent and very cheap as usual. However the beer was a big let down still with revolting after taste. It's out of the good beer guide which is only right, as entries are supposed to be consistent in their good beer which this place is most cetainly not. I can only hope they improve as they are losing business because of it.
Just thought I'd give this place one more try and the beer is still awful with its antiseptic aftertaste. Also why do vegan restaurants like this insist on selling veggie sausages, hot pot etc. which are utterly revolting. I've eaten superb vegetarian meals in India and had to remind myself there was no meat in it. The variety of vegetarian dishes here is limited and unimaginative as is the poor quality home brewed beer.
Awful beer brewed on the premises, ever since he began brewing it has consistently had a disgusting antiseptic after taste. Glad to learn it won't be in the 2012 CAMRA Good Beer Guide. Avoid like the plague.
Reminding me a bit of Sheffield's Fat Cat, a wonderful pub in every respect - good locally-brewed beer, lovely food, really friendly staff, interesting and characterful multi-roomed pub, and incredibly cheap. Wish I lived in Glossop (for lots of reasons).
Spent a great evening in The Globe last night (09/07/2011). This pub is just outstanding. The home cooked veggy grub is well recommended; I had the spicy mushrooms & rice, which was just superb. The Globe beers are ace too! I had several pints of Amber and Toby Porter, both of which were delicious. Good value too, as a round for a party of eight came to a few pence over fourteen pounds. All in all just a great place, just wish it was my local.
What a great place! Beer is VERY cheap; I paid less for a pint and a half than I pay for a pint in my local. Food is VERY cheap; About 18 for some starters and 4 main courses. They only had their own beers on which is fine but they had a wide range and several interesting looking ciders, not my thing though. I tried 4 different beers and two were not to my liking but I enjoyed the other two. Maybe more use of the sparkler needed as they were all a bit flat. Possibly just my tastes though and nothing to be said against their brewing skills. I love micro brewerys so the more the merrier for me. I do love my meat but have to say the food was very tasty and much better than I was expecting. The place is great too, plenty of character and probably characters if you stayed long enough and very young but efficient and friendly staff. A very mixed crowd and not stuffy in the way some veggie places can be. Im sure many vegans would not approve of a veggie steak dish on the menu but if its well cooked why not? Ill be going back without a doubt as this is a great place but it has just one problem; they need to put the prices up, its all worth a good deal more!
Very much agreed Bigman3! The curry is awesome! Although I am a meat eater I love the food served here. It's just a pity that I live on the other side of manchester so my visits are very limited.
Superb pub..
Retains how a good pub should be..
Excellent cask beer, real ales and ciders are on offer. The most expensive being 2 !!! I had a pint of Bridport Cider for 1.70 and it was strong and refreshing at 6%,Hereford orchard is available for the less brave.
This is strictly a vegan pub,but dont let this put you off if your a meat eater. The dishes are excellent, and the curry is to die for..
All in all,a great pub with great prices. What isnt to like?
As a devoted carnivore I was amazed how nice the vegan food here is very filling and very cheap.
The beer is nearly all brewed in house as they don't seem to do much beer swapping anymore.
I've been very disappointed lately in the beer I don't know whats going on with it quite a few of them seem to leave a fairly nasty after taste. Left after just a couple of pints last time as it just wasn't nice. Landlord need to go and get some tips from the Howard town brewery guys as they are fantastic at it.
I would like to go here more often than I do. Even though I'm not a veggie I love the home cooked meals served in here. Excellent value for money along with their own brewery, plus a real cider handpump.
Interesting decor, excellent food, home-brewed beer, friendly staff and customers: What's not to like?!
A very good pub on the same grade as the Black Horse hotel in Preston or the Queens Head in Stockport. The staff are friendly and the place does a good selection of ciders and also keeps the posh wine drinkers happy, cannot fault it.
Not much to add to reviews here. Good place though it does seem to want to link up with WOMAD and is a magnet for some very up-their-own-arse middle-class Lefty types
Beers brewed in-house, are interesting. Comet & Blondie are my usual favourites. Staff are great as are Ron & Diane the licencees. Guest beers are usually limited to 'beer swops' these days.
See snakeskin on youtube (bassmanphil3)
All round a superb pub. Serves the excellent value Globe ales - starting from just 1.40 for a pint of Globe Light. The food is interesting, very tasty and great value for money - e.g. spinach and chick pea curry with rice for 2.90. The pub itself has three main rooms and a spacious beer garden. A really friendly place, a must visit and definitely a 10/10 rating.
Still excellent! Great beers & great food at low prices. Slightly larger choice of food since last visit. Friendly staff and good atmosphere.
Can't recommend this place enough. A really friendly relaxed atmosphere and home brewed beer at very low prices. I popped in on a Wendesday evening and the place was very busy, unlike the other venues I visited on the same night. No surprise really, try a visit and see for yourself.
Fantastic!! House beers superb and excellent value. Food is amazing and again really cheap. Top that with friendly staff and a great atmosphere.
The Globe is great pub that brews its own (excellent) beers on the premises. Each beer has its own character, but the Porter is especially recommended. The pub itself is in the traditional, classic style like taking a step back in time!! The veggy food is cheap and very good. Located via a five-minute walk from the town centre, but the exercise will be well worth it! A gem.
A nice traditional pub with excellent real ales brewed on site. Well worth a visit.
Excellent brewed on site ales, along with regular guests. Good spicy veggie food at very good prices.
Excellent micro-brewery pub producing a good range of beers from light hoppy beers to dark stouts. Beers available are mainly from the Globe, plus one or two guests usually available, including Thatchers real Cider on handpump. As well as the attraction of the beers the Globe has a small menu of home cooked vegi & vegan meals where you can get a starter and main dish for less than a fiver! Have eaten here many times recently and it's always been great. Upstairs there's a music venue and sometimes there's live acoustic music downstairs. Comfortable friendly pub inside with an outdoor garden area at the back. Beware though! Check opening times if travelling as it doesn't open until teatime in the week and is shut on Tuesdays.
An excellent pub, with good varied beer choice. A must visit pub.
Situated 200m before the town centre and run by a couple of ageing hippies, this is the place to go if you fancy a night out with a difference. Live music fans will love the upstairs function room, which in no way interferes with the 3 well presented (and quiet) downstairs rooms that offer lots of character. Whilst a few of their in-house Globe Brewery ales can be somewhat hit & miss, they also serve up a variety of guest beers from JW Lees, Kelham Island, Abbeydale and Pictish so theres plenty to tickle the palette. The basic vegetarian menu is an absolute MUST and is without doubt the best value food in town.
What a smashing community pub. Visited on a Wednesday evening when a quiz was in full flow in a packed pub. On the evening I called almost all the 5 or 6 beers were from their own brewery and the weakest at 3.3% which I tried was full of flavour. So calling again is a definite must to sample some of their others

Opened their own micro brewery in the rear buildings in Summer 2006. Often however, now at the expense of the beers from other micros, with usually 4 Globe beers and 2 guests, often Howardtown, Abbeydale or Kelham Island. The veggie food is still very nice & the price is good.

Easily the best pub in Glossop. Excellent selection of beer (inc. bottled ales) with emphasis on local micro breweries, wide range of live music, traditional interior, great atmosphere, superb landlord and lady. If only there were more pubs like this one.

This one is worth going out of your way to Glossop for - or finishing a long walk off the moors at.
Exemplery selection of real ales, wines and spirits. Fantastic live music venue attracting some big names, smaller names and good talents. Very cheap veggie food, and free hot pot on quiz night. Plus many impromptu jamming sessions from the people who bring their fiddle out for a pint.
Very very friendly - leave your League Of Gentleman (it was filmed in this area) at the door. Although they do sell T Shirts for a laugh.
Lovely pub - may it never see the light of modernism.
