This place is really impressive when you walk in, exactly what you expect a traditional British pub to be like. Two fairly big rooms with a sort of snug in the middle, nice beer garden with coloured sails as a canopy, only problem is that it's also the smoking area. As we weren't eating I wasn't bothered by the fact that it's Vegetarian only, I was more interested to sample the beer that is brewed on the premises. I've been to quite a few pubs around the country that have their own microbreweries and have always been impressed to taste some really characteristic local brews. Unfortunately that cannot be said about the beer here. I don't thing I've ever tasted such bad so called real ale. The three light beers I tasted were all identical, looked great after being pulled, but had little taste and no body, lacking in hops for a light beer and all had a sort of germolene aftertaste, could only manage a couple of mouthfuls of each one. Then I tried Toby Porter which was on, very dark and tasted initially OK, not the best porter I have tasted, but not too bad, but then, oh dear, the same germolene after taste started to creep through. What a shame, when somewhere like this could be one of the best real ale pubs in the area. I suggested whoever is responsible for attempting to brew this beer seriously needs to go on a professional brewing course.
