The Albion, Winchester

I popped in for a pint recently - looking quite decent since re-opening. I wasn't impressed by the barman who looked at me then went to another customer at the end of the bar - I'd clearly been waiting a while as had looked around a few moments before, but I guess he wanted to impress the woman at the other end of the bar... prat

The Staghunters Inn, Lynton

Visited one warm, slow lunch time. Welcoming, attractive pub, pretty setting along a quiet lane.

The Albion, Winchester

It is a pity as the Albion used to be a rather decent pub. The drinks range genrally looks good, but there is a chavvy aspect to it. I don't like the freeview TV/radio either, just adds to the low rent feel - the horrible commercial radio blaring does not suit a small pub.

25 Feb 2011 15:51

Royal Oak, Winchester

Popped in after work recently so it was pretty quiet and lifeless for around 5.15. I've not been here for a few years. Service was ok but a bit brusque I felt. A bottle of Crabbies cost 4.05! Crazy (this is in November 2010).
The Black Boy, Hyde Tavern, The Eclipse, Wykeham Arms and others are all easily better pubs.

12 Nov 2010 12:10

The King Alfred, Southampton

Pub and music venue for punk/independent bands. Also, popular with football fans before Southampton matches (it's near the city centre). Decent little place.

4 Aug 2010 11:17

The Intrepid Fox, St Giles

I do like this pub, dark n dingy, loud music. The overly 'cool' attitude of some of the bar staff isn't really necessary, but they do look pretty good

4 Aug 2010 11:12

The Willow Tree, Winchester

The pub is ok, but being Greene King the drinks choice is limited. It saving grace is the garden. Very pleasant with the River Itchen going past on two sides.

3 Jun 2010 12:52

Strongroom, Shoreditch

Nice pub, music venue and it sells good quality vegetarian food. Not a lot of ales but it does have a decent range of continental lagers and Belgian beer, quite a few available in bottles rather than on tap. Friendly atmosphere and not as expensive as some places in this part of London.

2 Jun 2010 14:08

The Meadfoot Inn, Torquay

Newly refurbished pub by the looks of it, lots of film posters/memorabilia around. Not much in the way of ales but plenty of other drinks. Friendly welcome. It is also a gay pub.

2 Jun 2010 14:03

The Blue Anchor, Brixham

I made a brief visit to the Blue Anchor - good pub, friendly welcome and atmosphere.

2 Jun 2010 13:57

Hamptons Deli and Bar, Southampton

I know this more as a music venue, and seems pretty good for that

2 Jun 2010 13:55

The Warren House Inn, Postbridge

Comfortable, welcoming pub, excellent location and good range of drinks.

13 Apr 2010 15:39

The Albion, Winchester

There's always several guest ales available. Usually a bright, welcoming pub in my experience. It did seem to lose it for a bit , late 2009/early 2010 or thereabouts re. some of the previous posts but hopefully things much more like they should be from now on.

12 Mar 2010 16:22

The Beggers Roost Inn, Barbrook

Visited one lunch time (September 09) whlie on a long walk. I forget what I had to drink, one of the local brews, but it was good. Pleasant pub with a welcoming landlord

3 Mar 2010 10:05

The Bent Brief, Southampton

The drinks are ok, it is a bit dirty and careworn. It does, however, seem quite friendly. Regular free gigs by bands and singers

23 Feb 2010 12:48

The Eldon Arms, Southsea

Dropped in one afternoon when it was quiet. Bar man/landlord very friendly chap. Reasonably range of beer and comfortable decor.

5 Feb 2010 14:50

The Barrels Alehouse, Berwick upon Tweed

I stayed in Berwick for a week late last summer. This was the pub I went to most. Nice little place with character, welcoming and a good choice of ales. Two small bars upstairs and their is another area available downstairs but I don't know if that is opened for gigs only or when the pub's busy.

5 Feb 2010 14:45

The Dolphin, St Denys

Alas, the Dolphin has closed again.

5 Feb 2010 13:54

Lamorna Wink, Penzance

Made a brief visit here in early January 2010 around lunch time. It had a very welcoming feeling, lots of images and objects on the walls. The old dear behind the bar seemed friendly enough towards us. Would like to visit again for a few drinks in the evening to get a proper feel.

13 Jan 2010 15:34

The Cutty Sark, Marazion

This was the first time we had been here and it turned out to be fairly decent. The front part is essentially a restaurant but the rear area near the bar feels much more like a pub. Atmosphere was good and they had Sharpe's ales on. Much better than that St Awful's, err, St Austell's stuff.

8 Jan 2010 15:25

Leaping Salmon, Berwick upon Tweed

From the outside this pub looks pretty, though inside it is quite bland. The barman when I was there was pleasant but the place seemed to lack soul. The sits next to the river, and the bridge nearby looks attractive in the evening when the lights come on, but the tables are next to the road - Golden Square. Neither a square or golden in anyway.
The Barrels Alehouse nearby is comfortably the best pub in Berwick.

9 Oct 2009 14:47

The Hairy Lemon, Alnwick

The pub looks attractive, bar person was polite but the drinks selection pretty woeful. Aimed at a certain clientele

8 Oct 2009 12:41

The Ship Inn, Holy Island of Lindisfarne

Nice pub, some decent ales and a friendly welcome.

8 Oct 2009 12:28

Crown and Anchor Inn, Holy Island of Lindisfarne

Beautifully located pub, friendly barman. Looks like they have a few ales though only one when I was there.

8 Oct 2009 12:27

Horse and Farrier Inn, Threlkeld

Stopped off here after only getting part way to the top of Blencathra (the weather was closing in). Had a Jennings beer, forget which one, and that was good. Attractive pub, seemed welcoming.
I didn't get the chance to visit the Salutation. Next time.

2 Apr 2009 16:17

Packhorse Inn, Keswick

This pub is actually open.

1 Apr 2009 12:26

Abbey Inn, Buckfast

Very pretty setting and worth the diversion for a drink or a bite to eat. I'm not a fan of St Austell's Brewery but the guest ale they had on was quite decent,

7 Oct 2008 16:41

The Kings Arms Hotel, Buckfastleigh

Pleasant pub in the middle of the village, almost opposite the Valiant Soldier (a pub museum).

7 Oct 2008 16:38

The Well House, Exeter

Well appointed and friendly pub. They had Skinner's ales on when we visited, a definite bonus.

25 Sep 2008 15:55

The Old Fire House, Exeter

I liked this place. Welcoming feel with an abundance of candles on tables (perhaps too many!). The drinks were good and the atmosphere was vibrant.

25 Sep 2008 15:53

The Galleon Inn, Fowey

We wandered about Fowey trying to find a pub that wasn't St Austell's brewery owned. Doesn't look much from the outside but is attractive inside with some ales available. Well appointed position.

25 Sep 2008 15:51

The Bay Horse Inn, Totnes

This pub is worth a visit, decent beer, friendly atmosphere. There was a beer festival on when I was here in September 08, and the night before the were lots of black clad Morris types in the garden.

25 Sep 2008 15:44

The Albert Inn, Totnes

Visited this pub a couple of times recently. Welcoming place. It is also a brewhouse, I think. Worth the walk over into Bridgetown.

25 Sep 2008 15:41

Elm Tree, Cambridge

A friendly pub with lots of ales and Belgium beers available, amongst others. Worth seeking out.

8 Sep 2008 12:44

Seven Stars, Cambridge

Pretty basic pub. Usual Greene King drinks available but no guest real ale. Seemed quite friendly though the landlord could do with being more welcoming.

8 Sep 2008 12:25

Bridge, Shawford

After a walk of several miles along the Itchen Way I stopped off here for a couple of pints of T.E.A. Friendly welcome and decent beer.
Being late afternoon in the week the place was fairly quiet so I can't comment on it's ambience when bustling with customers. I'll save that for next time.

2 Sep 2008 12:55

Bat and Ball, Broad Half Penny Down

A very pleasant pub, opposite Broad Half Penny Down Cricket Club. Lots of cricket memorobilia inside. Well worth a visit.

31 Aug 2008 14:40

Three Tuns, Penryn

I've not been here in the evening, only on a couple of lunchtime visits, but it was pretty dead of both those occasions.

27 Aug 2008 14:18

North Walls, Winchester

This one has closed down

27 Aug 2008 14:05

The Three Tuns, Romsey

Only visit this pub on occasion visits to Romsey, but has usually been quite pleasant and still seems to be (I've not eaten here so cannot comment on the quality of the food).

14 Jul 2008 12:47

The Old Quay Inn, Truro

Pretty pub, good beer and welcome. Good views, too.

26 Apr 2008 12:38

Chainlocker and Shipwrights, Falmouth

Why has this pub been listed twice?

26 Apr 2008 12:34

The Red Lion, Falmouth

Lots of nooks and crannies in this pretty village pub. Usually a decent range of ales.

27 Feb 2008 13:02

The Boathouse, Falmouth

Attractive pub, unusually shaped rooms, balconies with a wonderful view over Carrick Roads. Some good beer when I was there.

27 Feb 2008 12:58

The Old Ale House, Truro

Came in here sometime in September with friends. The food was pretty decent and quite a good range of ales though not outstanding in terms of flavour. Decor is good, too

17 Oct 2007 13:50

Jacobs Ladder, Falmouth

This pub is now open again

4 Sep 2007 17:01

Fire Engine Inn, Marazion

Popped in here late one afternoon. Enjoyed a pint in the garden, seemded like a friendly place. Splendid views of St Michael's Mount and out to sea.

30 Jul 2007 16:03

The Nelson, Farnham

Popped in here recently. Attractive pub, though the layout emphasises its restaurant aspect. Had a decent pint of HBB (I think). Staffed seemed friendly. There's a very small outside area at the rear

18 Jun 2007 13:23

The White Horse, Droxford

Pleasant pub, friendly welcome. I've been here a couple of times before and it's been the same. The only downside being that there was only Greene King beer available, no guest ale (at least on this occasion). Watch out for the well in the gents (it has a thick glass cover)!

13 Jun 2007 11:24

The Oddfellows Arms, Falmouth

Pleasant little pub tucked away just up the hill from the town centre

6 Mar 2007 18:09

The Yacht Inn, Penzance

Been here once, quite late and it was busy. Seemed a good welcoming place with views out into the bay. Had a decent selection of drinks.

6 Mar 2007 18:01

The Victory Inn, St Mawes

I've been here a few times in the day on visits to Cornwall, seems very pleasant. I've had a few decent pints of Doom Bar here aswell.

6 Mar 2007 17:57

The Front Bar, Falmouth

Have only been here on Monday evenings when the Cornish music and dancing is on. They have a tasty lager called Atlantic, I usually drink ales, but I like this. Good atmosphere

5 Feb 2007 13:47

The Shipwright Arms, Helford Village

Sits next to the Helford River with great views, the pub is old, pretty and quite small with thatched roofing and white-washed walls with seating next to the river and creek. The ferry's nearby with its own system for hailing a lift. Good beer and food

26 Jan 2007 12:20

Ferryboat Inn, Helford Passage

Stopped off here a couple of times - it seems quite a decent pub in a lovely setting. The Shipwright Arms on the otherside of the river is, I'd say, a better pub

26 Jan 2007 12:08

The Pandora Inn, Restronguet

Beautifully situated and, indeed, beautiful pub. We had a good walke around the headland prior to visiting and sat out on the jetty. Though it's a St Austell's Brewery pub, not my favourite, the HSD was good. My friends also enjoyed the food

26 Jan 2007 12:04

The Seven Stars, Falmouth

Very good little spit n sawdust stlyle pub, friendly with good beer

26 Jan 2007 11:55

The Seaview Inn, Falmouth

Pleasant pub with very good views over Falmouth and out to Carrick Roads. I've not drank much there but it was fine on my last visit

26 Jan 2007 11:53

The Prince of Wales, Falmouth

Been here once to listen to a local musician. It was probably not the best night to be there as it was a bit quiet, but it seems like a reasonable pub

26 Jan 2007 11:50

The Grapes Inn, Falmouth

Nicely situated pub, friendly atmosphere the times I've been there. The beer is ok

26 Jan 2007 11:47

The Peat Spade, Longstock

I made a brief visit to the Peat & Spade. It has recently refurbished and looks pretty good; appears to be an emphasis on food given the number of dining tables. Had a decent pint of forty-niner.
Set in the pretty village of Longstock.

29 Aug 2006 12:55

Mailmans Arms, Lyndhurst

From the outside this place looks very welcoming, old style beams, flowers, tourists taking snaps of it. Greene King range of beer but a pity about the decor - dull wood panelling and leather chairs/sofas. Not what I expected from the outside. Nonetheless a decent pub.

24 Aug 2006 15:52

Royal Oak, Fritham

Good pub with plenty of ales available. Small bar but large garden. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the New Forest.

24 Aug 2006 15:49

The Square and Compass, Worth Matravers

This is a very pleasant pub. Stopped off after a walk and enjoyed a refreshing pint views out to sea. A pub with character (and a museum).

24 Aug 2006 15:43

The White Lion, Soberton

Attractive old pub next to St. Peter's Church. Two small bars, restaurant and beer garden with a pretty view. There's a handful of ales available.
Also, lurking around are a couple of friendly Old English sheep dogs. There's a stable next to the pub but I don't know if that belongs next door, but it adds to the ambience. The Meon Valley Trail is nearby for walkers and cyclists.

3 May 2006 14:57

Ship Inn, Owslebury

Attractive old style pub with a beer and outside bar. Some good ales available

19 Apr 2006 15:00

19 Apr 2006 14:40

The Waterloo Arms, Freemantle

Pleasant pub, local feel about it. Some good ales available

19 Apr 2006 14:25

The Hop Leaf, Reading

Nice, comfortable pub with a good range of ales available.

19 Apr 2006 14:15

The Hampshire Bowman, Dundridge

Came across this pub by accident while out riding. Large beer garden, old style barrels behind the bar, friendly and good beer.

19 Apr 2006 14:10

The Allied Arms, Reading

decent little pub with low ceilings and beer garden. some good beer, too

19 Apr 2006 14:08

The Black Boy, Winchester

This pub has a very warm and welcoming feel to it. Have always enjoyed my visits to here, pleasant decor and ales. The garden is also good with lots of greenary all around. About 10 minutes walk from the city centre.

15 Nov 2005 18:07

The South Western, St Denys

Nice pub, next to St Denys railway station and near to The Dolphin, another good pub. Good range of ales and has the occasional beer festival. Relaxing and friendly.

15 Nov 2005 18:03

The Wine Vaults, Southsea

Been here a few times and have always enjoyed it. Has decent food and a range of ales. Also, handy for a curry as there a quite a few restaurants nearby.

15 Nov 2005 17:59

The Still and West, Portsmouth

Excellent views across the harbour and to the Spinaker Tower, and ferries sailing very close. I have only been here in the day for a few drinks and have always enjoyed it. Quite a bit to see nearby as it is in Old Portsmouth and just along from Southsea.

15 Nov 2005 17:57

The Red Lion, Southampton

Lovely old style pub with rickety flooring on the upper floor as I seem to remember. It's a bit like walking into a medieval banqueting hall. I haven't been here for quite a while but seem to remember there wasn't a great choice in ale, but still worth going to.

15 Nov 2005 17:42

The Hobbit, Southampton

This is a pretty good pub, different levels/floors, similar with the garden. A pub to have a laugh in. I've not had any bother with the staff.

15 Nov 2005 17:37

The Dungeon, Southampton

I haven't been here in a while. Essentially a pub to drink and listen to goth and punk music. Dark, dingy but a friendly enough place.

15 Nov 2005 17:33

Duke of Wellington, Southampton

I've only been to the Wellington a few times. No problems for me, reasonable beer and the staff seemed friendly. The Wellington is a half timbered building situated near the remains of Southampton's medieval city wall, Tudor House etc.

15 Nov 2005 17:29

The Platform Tavern, Southampton

Yes, this is a very good pub. Friendly, comfortable, slightly unusual decor, regualar live free music. Pleasant location facing Town Quay.

15 Nov 2005 17:24

The Dolphin, St Denys

Excellent pub next to St Denys railway station. Serves food and has a selection of real ales with regular guest ones. There's live music during the week of a roots/blues/folk variety. Friendly pub, comfortable and there's a beer garden. Probably my favourite one in Southampton, and nearest!

15 Nov 2005 17:20

The Star and Garter, Falmouth

This is a very pleasant pub. Decent beer/real ales. It has live music on some nights, but I'm not sure which. When it's busy it has a good atmosphere otherwise a nice quiet place for a pint or two; then there's the view across the harbour and Carrick Roads, which is outstanding, as the pub sits on top of a hill and lots of windows. There's a free to use telescope aswell. Well worth a visit.

15 Nov 2005 17:15

Jacobs Ladder, Falmouth

I like this pub, lots of regular free music, relaxed, friendly atmosphere. It could do with some better beer and though I like the shambolic look of it, it could be improved - those glass swing doors, for example, really don't work. It's probably not the best idea to walk down Jacob's Ladder stairway after a few, hard and steep!

15 Nov 2005 17:00

The Chainlocker and Shipwrights, Falmouth

I've been to the Chainlocker quite a few times on my recent visits to Falmouth. A really good pub, great location next to the harbour, good beer and food; good decor, too.
