If you climb Jacobs Ladder steps to get to the pub you will need a pint or two to recover! A surprisingly big pub with two bars and a food area + an open fire. Could do with a lick of paint and the chef's apron had clearly not seen the inside of a washing machine for several days, if not weeks.

Seems to be very much focused on a student clientele with just the one ale on draught at time of visit, (Doombar), also very quiet, probably reflecting the fact that all the students have gone home for Christmas.

I have been to Jacob's Ladder before and found it a reasonable experience. The area is decent and the atmosphere is too... tonight, I had a different experience entirely. I had been invited to a friends birthday party, but I did not know most of the people there. This was fine, but at the end of the night, when I was the last person to leave, I was approached by a member of staff who expected me to clean up after the others. Glass had been smashed. Others had done it, but I had no knowledge of it whatsoever. My problem was not that he had told me to sweep up the mess. My problem was that he did not ask me about it first. There are ways of doing things. If he had said to me: "there is a lot of glass beneath the table you were sat at. Do you know anything about it?" I would have been okay. Instead, he shoved a dustpan and broom in my face and told me to sweep. This does not make good customer service for me. I did sweep the mess up, because I did not want a fuss, but I will not go there again. Cleaning up after other people is not my idea of a good night out.

Went to an enjoyable little Jazz/Acoustic guitar gig here recently. Friendly atmosphere, mainly students, but there's nothing wrong with students. I think I was one once! Beer was fine, no charge for entry to the music.
