The Tynllidiart Arms, Capel Bangor
Agree with everything said, make sure you bring your cheque book with you though, very pricey compared to the rest of Ceredigion/Aberystwyth. Friendly staff.

Didn't get IDed even though I look young, it was a little depressing. Toilets were in Siberia but the food was spot on.
Not the kind of place you would want to hang around for a great length of time, perfect for a crawl, get in and get out.
6 Jan 2007 19:55
Smelt a bit weird, but had a little charisma.
I had the mild too, quite nice. Moved on to other establishments in the town.
6 Jan 2007 19:53
David Attenborough would be proud of the rhino based decor, I thought it was a luxury touch. My pint was indeed horrible and tasty like it had come from a battery farm. Loved the music though and glad to see it on and at a decent volume from early.
Place has potential, no whores in there when I was.
6 Jan 2007 12:39
Not a very "stand out" pub, but worth a visit primarily due to its location near the station. Definite crawl material but not if you are looking for a nicer hostilery. I agree about the banging tunes a little out of place.
6 Jan 2007 12:36
Hasn't seen a refit since 1968. Terrible decor and terrible choice of ales. Friendly service and pretty good juke box. Not my first choice to visit in Reading.
6 Jan 2007 12:33
Agree with all comments. I didn't touch the food but my mate seemed to enjoy his gammon.

The Queens Head, Ashby de la Zouch
This place is a bar come nightclub. I was quite wasted when in the club, but had a reasonable night. Had a bit of "charisma" about the place. Becareful though I had a tendancy of tripping over one patron in particular, you won't miss him!
6 Jan 2007 12:23
I thought the staff were quite friendly here, but didn't order any food. Clientel were a bit hardcore for my liking, but a good list of offers on the board to rival the Fountain in Aberystwyth.
Didn't try the ale, got tempted by a vodka and poor man's red bull.
6 Jan 2007 12:21
Top pub. Excellent food and very friendly service. Spacious as well.
Only downside is that it is in the middle of no where and you would need a taxi or Des Driver to get you home!
6 Jan 2007 12:17
This place is definitely on the turn. Went there mid summer and it was empty, bit busier last time. Good choice of ales but a very tight quiz box.
I hear the food is decent too.
4 Jan 2007 20:04
Went here for a birthday lunch, really good food. Beer was pretty spot on too.
4 Jan 2007 20:00
Excellent pub, although parking can be a bit of an issue. Good ale, very nice pint and very friendly staff. If I had been a student in Leeds this would have been my local. Well if I lived near it.
Loved the decor. llewyln-monkfish bloke would be proud.

The White Hart, Ashby de la Zouch
Came here whilst on a messy crawl around Ashby, recommended in the "Stange Pubs Guide" as it used to be a bear pit, hence the stuffed bear, not Bungle.
Beer was ok.
4 Jan 2007 19:54
Nice place, good beer and good choice. Sleepy little village a bit of the beaten track but definitely worth a visit.
4 Jan 2007 19:51
The Hard Rock Cafe, Nottingham
Good food, nice place, friendly staff.
Downside not the best choice of beer and as I think someone else mentioned its "a little pricey" for Notts.
4 Jan 2007 19:48
Toilets were difficult to find, but yes agree with everyone else, had to have a lager bit too early in the night to sample the vodka.
4 Jan 2007 19:45
Excellent pub.
Cracking location on the Thames, excellent food and good range and choice of ale. Family friendly and houses a quiz machine. One for Quinno to cast his eye over.
4 Jan 2007 19:42
The Queens Head, Bury St Edmunds
Beer wise this place is good, as mentioned in other reviews a good choice and well kept. Downside was the over zealous staff that managed to ID myself and my partner in crime whilst we were both 25 and not looking like kids.
4 Jan 2007 19:38
Ye Olde One Bull, Bury St Edmunds
Not a bad place for a late drink. Tends to be quite busy with excellent music. Always stop in when I'm in Bury.
4 Jan 2007 19:37
Really nice pub on the outskirts of Bury Street Edmunds. Good beer garden for the summer with a nice atmosphere. Small choice of ale but a couple of local brews. Excellent food, good portion sizes and speed of delivery. A must visit in BSE.
4 Jan 2007 19:35
The White Hart and Cellar Bar, Ampthill
I like this place. Good beer, very busy with an extensive outdoor area. Has plenty of character.
5 Nov 2006 13:57
I was very impressed with the toilet that comes out of the ground in the square opposite this place. Standard O'Neills really.
5 Nov 2006 13:51
Mid week visit whilst on my way elsewhere. Wasn't too busy friendly staff and comfy seating. Menu looked quite tasty and quite affordable for the student population of Reading.
5 Nov 2006 13:48
Thoroughly enjoyed my pint of Double Dragon, friendly bar staff and quite spacious with three different rooms.
5 Nov 2006 13:46
I was very impressed with this place, if I lived it Reading I would make it my local. Good range, friendly staff wide range of pub accessories like games machines and TV screens. Got all the bases covered.
5 Nov 2006 13:44
Pretty small. Staff and patrons were friendly enough but quite expensive.
5 Nov 2006 13:41
Pretty bog standard pub, but something about it cheered me up. Friendly locals and a good ale or two. Some bizzare man hole in the gents toilets.
5 Nov 2006 13:37
Been here on a couple of occassions, always have a good time. Not the best choice of ale so I tend to stick to lager. Late night licence small dancefloor.
5 Nov 2006 13:36
I can never find the toilets in this place. Very popular especially in the summer when punters spill onto the street.
5 Nov 2006 13:32
Excellent local pub. Nice place to chill out on a Sunday after a heavy night, and always worth a visit on a nightout too. Is very popular at night and always very busy, so get in early to avoid having to shoe horn yourself to the bar.
5 Nov 2006 13:31
Always busy, one of the most popular pubs in town. Excellent beer garden and the place has the facilities to show two sports matches at once.
Toilets are outside and always busy also, expect to queue.
5 Nov 2006 13:28
Nice interior and friendly staff. Not the place to go if you are an away football supporter, I got told to shut up before I got beaten up.
Couple of good quality real ales.
5 Nov 2006 13:25
I really didn't like the atmosphere in this place, but I can't explain why. Tasty food with prompt service.
5 Nov 2006 13:23
Big and spacious place, with plenty of staff so quite rarely have to queue. Excellent range of real ales, but due to its proximity to the train station is quite expensive. Can be quite boisterous most weekends with football or rugby fixtures in the city.
A good meeting point, before moving on.
5 Nov 2006 13:21
I thoroughly recommend a feed and an accompanying ale at this place. Would love to go again and experience more of the exotic menu, no Chicken+Mush and Beef+Onion, guarenteed the likes of Wild Boar, Pigeon and Peach.
Small selection of ale, but very tasty. Very friendly staff at competative prices.
5 Nov 2006 13:18
Poor pub. If you want a generic night out, with generically dressed people then come here. No USP and no character in my eyes.
5 Nov 2006 13:14
The RISC Global Cafe and Bar, Reading
The lead singer from Orson seems to work here. Fairly pleasent kind of place, not really my kind of place. Worth a visit but nothing to write home about.
5 Nov 2006 13:13
Standard chain nightclub. Can't remember much about my visit although the toilets were a fair hike away, and up or down some stairs, I think.
Didn't touch the pumped beer had a bottle of my favourite Mexican lager.
5 Nov 2006 13:10
Nice little place, I found the owner very friendly. There are better places in Reading, but definitely worth a visit when on a crawl.
5 Nov 2006 13:08
Went in here quite early in the evening, not overly busy. Looks to have plenty of character and a quaint beer garden out the back.
5 Nov 2006 13:07
The Pitcher and Piano, Reading
Nice placement near the train station and pretty plush inside. Reading is quite expensive for a night out and this place takes the biscuit.
Lack of ale meant I had to have a bottle of some South American lager.
5 Nov 2006 13:05
The worst sign posted gents in the whole of Reading. Horrible internal colour scheme and not the most spacious. Wouldn't recommend it.
5 Nov 2006 00:29
Excellent bar staff, friendly clieontel. Original interior a little bit on the smokey side. Very spacious.
5 Nov 2006 00:27
Pretty average Spoons.
Beware if you are an Orange mobile phone user you won't get signal here, which can be annoying when other friends are attempting to join you.
5 Nov 2006 00:24
Mardy goat behind the bar whose face would turn the beer sour. A little bit of a hike out of the city centre but well worth it for the beer, not for service with a smile.
5 Nov 2006 00:21
For some reason I fell over the wall whilst appraoching these premises, which are located near a busy dual carrigeway.
Pretty standard pub, big supporter of the local football team.
5 Nov 2006 00:19
A decent little place, with a ban on mobile phones inside. Lots of real ales to choose from, not a massive amount of seating.
5 Nov 2006 00:18
Enjoyable pub, although last time I was there someone did let off a smoke bomb inside the premises, meaning I couldn't actually see my friends on the same table.
Good juke box and a high quality of ale. A definite to visit.
5 Nov 2006 00:16
Great location near the station and served Websters Green Label, one of my favourite beers, bit more expensive than in Manchester though.
Patrons are of varying demographics, but pleasent enough. Good looking staff.
5 Nov 2006 00:14
I entered and exited this place so drunk my eyes were rocking back in my skull. Don't remember much apart from a celtic influence, were Clannad playing? probably not.
5 Nov 2006 00:11
Not my favourite part of town. Lager drinking suburbian NIMBYS and chav's frequent the centre.
Bar itself was OK, reasonable service and charasmatic interior.
5 Nov 2006 00:09
Reasonable food, a good stop for refuelling during a pub crawl. Quite empty for a Weatherspoons on both of my visits.
5 Nov 2006 00:07
Two small rooms, vintage space invaders game. Couple of real ales, good central location.
5 Nov 2006 00:06
Live music with a midget on the mic, don't be put off with its proximity to the town hall.
Couple of real ales, relaxed atmosphere its a winner!
5 Nov 2006 00:03
This is the place to be in London. I have had a range of drunken escapades here, so much so that the bouncers know me by sight.
Cheap drink, not the best quality and rammed with ladies, as there is a nursing college around the corner. Bank Holidays and Saturday nights both floors will be open and the place will be rocking.
On quieter nights they issue free food, its not Masterchef style but soaks up the alcohol. Although on one occassion I did pay for said free food.
5 Nov 2006 00:01
One of the best pubs in Berkshire. Excellent location over looking the canal, with an extensive beer garden, very busy in the summer.
Good range of ale, slightly expensive but this is Berkshire. Food in general is OK, but one of my friends did have a dodgy steak there once.
A very friendly quiz machine that likes to pay out big, especially on Bullseye.
4 Nov 2006 23:57
Rough as a badgers backside, not often you see a swarm of midges in a pub. Punters seemed not entirely pleased to see us.
4 Nov 2006 23:54
The Wortley Almshouses, Peterborough
Sam Smith's place, really good atmosphere and very cheap prices. Lager drinkers beware however you will be made to drink out of some sort of champagne flute.
Toilets are also a little suspect, there was a hole in the floor there the other week, and have been known to have the ladies out of order.
4 Nov 2006 23:51
Top rating this place. Loads of big screens for watching football and cricket, usually busy for both. Good beer's not a massive choice and if i was being picky usually served a little cold.
Really high quality food, with a regularly updated menu. The quality of the staff has reduced since I first start drinking there four years ago.
Good placement in the city centre very close to my office for extended Brian Clough style lunches.
4 Nov 2006 23:48
The Palmerston Arms, Peterborough
Another pub in some one's front room, but friendly staff and excellent ale. A little bit out of the way from the city centre.
4 Nov 2006 23:45
Good honest pub, good range of beers with a slight fenland influence.
4 Nov 2006 23:43
Tried to get in here, got as far as the bar until I realised one of my friends had been turned away for not wearing slabs. He wasn't wearing trainers either, so I wouldn't bother wasting my money in here again.
4 Nov 2006 23:42
The Drapers Arms, Peterborough
One of the best in town. Good service and non-smoking.
Quite difficult to get a seat as it is always busy, prime location near the all you can eat Chinese Buffet, just keep off the J2Os.
4 Nov 2006 23:40
Pretty rough patrons, but usually friendly. Always busy and quite cheap prices.
The biggest collection of gamblers/quiz machines I have seen in England. Very spacious plenty of seats and the food is OK too.
4 Nov 2006 23:38
The Coalheavers Arms, Peterborough
Only been a couple of times, got laughed at when ordering a red bull once after a hellish drive home.
Friendly staff and clientel. A bit like having a pint in your front room at home. It has character.
4 Nov 2006 23:36
One of my favourite Peterboro bars. Is actually a boat with the pub downstairs and another oriental food emporium on the top deck near the crows nest.
Good range of local real ales, quite expensive though. Massive beer garden, ideal for summer drinking, and very close to the excellent Metropolis Lounge nightclub.
4 Nov 2006 23:34
I'm not a massive fan of this place. Is a very popular city centre pub, with a massive choice of real ales and European bubbles. For some reason serves Thai food.
4 Nov 2006 23:32
Had my Christmas meal with work here one year, excellent. Was only drinking soft beverages after a heavy night before.
Was the start of an infamous night out for me in PBoro.
4 Nov 2006 22:41
Excellent food and friendly staff. Used to visit this place when I was a student at the local Uni. Good atmosphere.
4 Nov 2006 22:32
Not the most friendly of places, but a nice pint of beer and plenty of room to sit down.
4 Nov 2006 22:28
Top pub. Rural location, wide selection of grumble in the toilets and George the dog keeping everyone in check. A genial landlord that serves a good pint.
4 Nov 2006 22:27
Best food in town, had many Scampi and Chips expeditions here. Friendly good natured staff and a nice pint of bitter.
4 Nov 2006 22:26
This is the smallest pub in Britain official. I would wager it is the smokiest as well.
Mummified cat and other random articles hanging from the ceiling.
4 Nov 2006 22:24
The Greyhound, Bury St Edmunds
Friendly staff, nice pub on the way into town. High standard of disabled toilets.
4 Nov 2006 22:21
Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, Nottingham
Very touristy, good range of ale though. One of the places you have to say you have visited.
4 Nov 2006 22:20
Brilliant, excellent venue. Good quality fast food when gigging. I saw Keane here a few years ago and they were immense, met Tom afterwards. Not sure if he was quite Priory bound then.
4 Nov 2006 22:19
The Pit and Pendulum, Nottingham
Excellent pub, but don't get caught out like I did by the toilets, they are hidden.
Good range of beer and the multi levels adds a new dimension.
4 Nov 2006 22:16
The Goose on the Square, Nottingham
Pretty Standard from the Goose chain. Reasonable food and prices. High probability of being accosted by some toothless simpleton.
4 Nov 2006 22:13
Good pint and good selection. Located in the city centre sqaure.
4 Nov 2006 22:12
The Weston Vaults, Aberystwyth
Found at the bottom of the hill at the corner of the one way system. Worth a visit but wouldn't stay long.
4 Nov 2006 22:11
A favourite with the ladies due to its jelly baby vodka. I favourite for the chaps for serving beer in two pint glasses. Quite a simple little place, yet always busy and another place you have to visit when in Aber.
4 Nov 2006 22:09
Not the best place in town, unless you are looking for accommodation on graduation night.
4 Nov 2006 22:07
The Glengower Hotel, Aberystwyth
This place used to be the heart and soul of the local student population. Had more instances of cash back here than the local supermarket. Spent a couple of New Years Eve's here and they rocked.
Excellent music, good spacious dancefloor and they gave away free T-Shirts. Top Banana in my book.
Pity that they got rid of their late licence and has turned into a bit of blue rinse pub. Excellent food though.
4 Nov 2006 22:06
The Vale of Rheidol, Aberystwyth
Bit of a weird layout, only been in once or twice and both times I was very drunk so don't remember much.
4 Nov 2006 22:03
Excellent pub, takes a bit of finding chance are you will only find it if lost or looking for the fire station.
Everytime I have been in there has been offers on, good Brains ale. The landlord of the place is the most genial host in Aber.
4 Nov 2006 22:02
The Coopers Hotel (Y Cwps), Aberystwyth
Only been here a handful of times, quite nice friendly pub.
4 Nov 2006 22:00
Outside gents lures me in everytime. Good range of ale and some of the best bar staff in Aber. Used to hold a Sunday night quiz not sure whether this still goes on.
Bit small, but a good quality Aber boozer.
4 Nov 2006 21:59
Cheap and in close proximity to the curry house Shilam, cancel chefs leave.
Good selection of real ales and a quiz machine has me hooked everytime.
4 Nov 2006 21:57
This place has had more guises than Geri Halliwell. Nice pub, formerly the home of 99p triple vodkas that lead to many a night of rack and ruin.
4 Nov 2006 21:56
The Cambrian Hotel, Aberystwyth
Cocktail central for Aberystwyth. Only real reason to go in. Be warned on Halloween 2005 it was the scene of a hit and run egging incident.
Pretty expensive, but nice interior.
4 Nov 2006 21:55
The first place in Aberystwyth to house Absinthe, at 3 a shot a bargain. Not sure if it still has it.
I regularly visit here when I return to Aber as it is always full at the weekend. Got a couple of dance floors always spinning some monster tracks. Beer is pretty standard nightclub fare, couple of TVs in the front to keep up with current affairs.
4 Nov 2006 21:53
Good choice of beer and mild, very spacious and very attractive, friendly bar staff. Famous for its weekly quiz.
Got an upstairs section with pool table. I never visited this place enough.
4 Nov 2006 21:51
I remember seeing Robert Pires break his ankle on TV here. Anyway very tight gents toilets, tighter than a shower I once had in Nuremburg.
Good food, friendly staff and good beer. Great central location, a must visit in Aberystwyth.
4 Nov 2006 21:49
I hate this place, reminds me a bit of a wine bar. Always busy full of lager drinkers and law students.
Food is the only saving grace with this place, and the selection of newspapers for the patrons viewing pleasure.
4 Nov 2006 21:47
Spent many a night whiling away the hours here. Two floors, keep em peeled for the steep steps though. Not the best selection of beer in town but cheap prices and chatty staff. Tends to be empty during the week yet full to the rafters at the weekend.
Plenty of comedy graffetti in the bogs.
4 Nov 2006 21:45
The Inn on the Pier, Aberystwyth
I spent more time in this place than I ever did in the library whilst studying for my degree. The home of football and fast food. I think the majority of my student debt was created by this place and the nightclub next door.
Friendly staff, always got some cheeky offers and deals on. Be warned usually busy.
4 Nov 2006 21:43
Good ale, spacious seating and always full to brimming on reclaim the streets night.
4 Nov 2006 21:41
This place has really gone down hill. Brady's was a trimuph and one of my favourite watering holes in town. You were more often than not accosted by a drunk local who wanted to share their news with you. Was a good venue for the football and a bottle of bubbles was only 1. Too posh and expensive for my liking.
4 Nov 2006 21:36
I agree that the standard of bar maid here is the highest in town and has been for last few years. Only ever ventured in a few times, but had a good time always.
4 Nov 2006 21:33
Local live music on a Friday this place is always buzzing. Friendly staff and a nice pint of Mild. Got a good jukebox and the potential for a game of darts. Little bit out of the way, one for the dedicated drinkers.
4 Nov 2006 21:31
Not one of my favourite pubs in town, but does have the unique selling point of board games. Is the only place in town that I have been stood outside waiting for it to open, and on a Sunday. Has some good beers and an excellent beer garden for summer drinking.
4 Nov 2006 21:29
The Ship and Castle, Aberystwyth
Another good Sunday lunch venue, and one of the best real ale pubs in the town. Toilets are a bit cramped.
4 Nov 2006 21:27
Great little boozer, very friendly staff. Bit of a gamble sometimes busy, sometimes empty. A good stop off when on a crawl around the centre.
4 Nov 2006 21:26
Excellent value Sunday lunch here for the students amongst you. Got a dancefloor out the back and usually plays more specialist music. Excellent gambler selections with a wide range of interest games. Not the best selection of beer.
4 Nov 2006 21:24
As mentioned this used to be a place of God, not any more is in a den of inequity. Good atmosphere, usally full and thorough door staff when it comes to IDs. Nothing special beer wise but usually worth a visit when in Aber.
4 Nov 2006 21:20
The Rutland Arms, Woolsthorpe By Belvoir
Excellent pub by the side of Grantham Canal. My grandad used to take me here when I was a nipper and I can remember when goats grased in the field on the other side. Excellent food and good ales, in the summer tends to get a lot of campers staying in the vicinity.
4 Nov 2006 21:17
Quite small and compact, but very good food. A good selection of gamblers for the moth boys.
4 Nov 2006 21:14
The scene of many a drunken night, including my mates 21st where he caused a disturbance on one of the pool tables. Shows the football and usually very busy, good location in regard to a kebab house. Lacks a bit of atmosphere and tends to appeal to the younger generation.
4 Nov 2006 21:13
This place has a central location and quite cheap for the town. Good choice of real ale and plenty of comfy sofas. Toilets are upstairs and a country mile away when you are sufficiently bladdered.
4 Nov 2006 21:11
The Red Lion, Egham
Footy quizzer gone, gutted I won my popperdom money on that before hitting the local curry house.
Very smokey place, reasonable choice, not bad.
6 Jan 2007 20:01
