A new bar/restaurant has arisen incorporating this bar. Its address is 87-91 High Street, and is called the "Red Hot" Restaurant and bar. The old Litten Tree sign still hangs outside.

Tried to call on 9th February. Notice on door said "Gone Fishing". Does, however appear to be in course of refurbishment, so better luck next time.
10 Feb 2015 12:01
Yet another one closed in order to be converted into a supermarket. For a time was apparently renamed the TRUNDLE TREE.

A very welcoming hostelry. Came in for a quick beer in passing, and ended up stopping for much longer, also having a nice snack. Buses pass the front door every 10 minutes, although you will want to miss a good few once you have come in. Paul and Justine are really nice people. Will certainly come back next time I'm in the area.

The Shoulder Of Mutton, Lichfield
Understand that it has been refurbished recently and is now renamed "The Owl".
2 Oct 2014 13:42
Very glad to see that it has reopened. Went in for a quick beer a couple of days ago. It has been nicely refurbished and is run by very keen people.

Visited on 1st August, and found that I was the first customer since new landlords had taken over today. Most welcoming. Give this hostelry your support.
1 Aug 2014 23:23
Changed its name from "Red Lion", but is now an Indian restaurant.
6 Jul 2014 16:40
Tried to call in at 2.10 this afternoon. Closed despite supposedly being open from mid-day to 2.30. Annoying.
20 Jun 2014 21:48
Closed since 2010. Proposed for conversion to residential use.
26 Apr 2014 15:22
Although predominantly a restaurant, is a pub with interesting railway pictures, old timetables etc. About 2 kms from Widmerpool Village
22 Mar 2014 14:14
Sad to say, went into this friendly pub on 28 February, and found that today was its last day of trading. Kitchen has now moved to the Oddfellows Arms on Bolton Road.
2 Mar 2014 09:25
This pub is NOT closed. Unfortunately does not serve real ale
2 Mar 2014 09:23
Good beer, and a warm welcome from the young landlady who has recently taken over. Would have liked to stay longer.
23 Jan 2014 10:36
Popped in on 16 March. This is the best pub I've visited so far this year. The young lady behind the bar has positively ordered me to come back. Look forward to doing so next time I'm in the area.

"Open all day" according to the sign outside, and their website. Called 1215 one Wednesday. Not a sign of life.
22 Jan 2013 10:46
Has been reopened as the "Stables". Open daily from 12 to 3pm, and 5 until 11.
22 Jan 2013 10:42
Is due to become an Indian restaurant, "opening shortly" according to a banner on the front.
26 Apr 2012 23:39
Local publicity indicated that it had closed. Although up for let, it was open today under new management. It has been pleasantly refurbished, and real ale will hopefully be available before long. Give this pub your support, as it is the only one in the village at present.

The Curlew, South Woodham Ferrers
Went past on 4/4/12. Is closed at present, but hopefully only temporarily.
5 Apr 2012 10:59
Postcode should be DH3 3BE. Chester le Street is in County Durham, about 100 miles north of Doncaster.
24 Jan 2012 20:53
This has now become an Indian Restaurant "The India Lounge". You can still have a drink there, however. Kingfisher and Cobra are lagers on tap.

I am surprised that no reviews have been posted before now. This is a pub that has everything - a wide selection of real ales covering a wide range of tastes (about 6 when I visited), good value bar snacks, a marvellously friendly welcome, and spotless toilets (well we all have to go). It is about 15 minutes walk from Ripley Town Centre, down a quiet street, but I'm very glad to have found this pub. Another great gem on my widespread travels.

I dropped in today for a quick beer, and found it a really lovely pub. I had a delicious local brew, and the welcome was friendly. I liked some of the sayings on the wooden beams ("My wife thinks I'm ugly when I'm drunk, but she looks pretty horrible to me when I'm sober"). I would certainly go back there again if I were in the area. This is a good old fashioned pub with stone floors, good beer and a marvellous atmosphere.

Good beer and lots of conversation are the keynotes here. This is the local that has the lot.
24 Jul 2011 20:48
The Seven Stars Inn, Greengates
Is boarded up, and presumably has been since the murder of the landlord a couple of years ago.
31 May 2011 12:24
I cannot really add any more to the many well deserved accolades this pub has received. There will shortly be a 5 day beer festival, with 130 real ales on tap. The walk from Wrenbury Station can be a little hair raising, but there is a two-hourly bus during the day, between Nantwich and Whitchurch which passes the door, and one arrives 10 minutes before opening time. The pub has everything you could wish for. Wish I could have stopped a lot longer.
19 Feb 2011 16:27
Has been closed for some time. At present, its future is uncertain.
11 Feb 2011 23:43
Unfortunately is another pub that advertises its opening hours but does not keep to them. Tried to call on 4 February at 1400hrs, but not a sign of life, although supposedly being open from 1200 to 1430.
4 Feb 2011 17:04
Came by on Friday 5/11/10. Despite being advertised as open all day, was totally closed at 1530. One of many I have tried to visit that do not stick to their posted opening hours.

The Case is Altered, Five Ways
A good walk from the nearest public transport, but it makes the beer go down all the better. I found the pub to be a truly relaxing country hostelry, with no music. Turn off your mobile phone before you go in, or it's a 1 fine if it rings. Contrary to a previous review, I found it welcoming, and the beer was beautiful. An ideal place for a quiet session.
17 Jul 2010 15:29
About 15 minutes stroll from the nearest bus stop. I found it to be a pleasant pub with interesting beers, plus it was, for the time ofyear, quite busy (9/2/10). My only regret was that I had to go after a short time: wish I had been able to stay longer.
14 Feb 2010 21:08
A delightfully snug pub in the village centre. It is a Sam Smith's, so a pint will leave you with change out of 2. Small rooms and a lot of ormaments give a truly cosy atmosphere. Bus service is about 2 hourly during the day, so it's a great place for a relaxing visit at any time.
18 Sep 2009 21:59
In March 2009, was closed and for sale. Hopefully, this is only temporary.
13 Mar 2009 22:25
Was formerly the "Victoria". Now serves a good range of Ossett Brewery ales. Good welcome.
25 Oct 2008 15:06
The pub is about 10 minutes walk down Horbury Road (there is a bus service going to the bottom). Well worth seeking out. I very much enjoyed my visit.

The Five Mile House, Duntisbourne Abbots
Tucked off the east side of the A417 about 4 miles north of Cirencester, on the Gloucester-Cirencester bus route. A warm welcome, three real ales (at the time of my visit), and a mouthwatering menu make this pub the gem of the area.
23 Aug 2008 17:03
This must be Rugby's best pub. 9 real ales (some or all served directly from the barrel) plus a real cider, apart from all the other draught and bottled beers spoil you for choice. Also, a warm welcome and a great atmosphere make this the pub you will want to have a good, long, relaxing stay.

The Kings Head (Low House), Laxfield
This pub must have been one that put "Good" into the phrase "Good Old Days". As soon as you enter, you are transported into a long bygone era, when life was much simpler and people more content. This is before you even order your beer. Divided into little rooms, having high-backed chairs and real fires are just the start. Photographs on the walls and old artefacts on shelves and windowsills add to the wonderful country pub atmosphere. There is no bar, and beer is served by gravity from barrels in a back room. A good selection of draught (I had a beautiful pint of Adnam's Old Ale) and bottled beers, charmingly served, at the right temperature, all add to the feel-good factor. The bus service to the nearest railhead, Halesworth, is not frequent, but the times allow you to have two and a half hours on a lunchtime visit.
17 Feb 2008 19:15
Unfortunately closed several years ago and is now a private residence.
28 Nov 2007 16:35
Tucked away, just south off the Thornton Road, about 10 minutes walk from the Town Hall. Well worth finding with a good selection of real ales, bar snacks and a warm welcome. Unfortunately, only had time for 1 pint. Can understand why people travel from far and wide to make a bee-line for this pub.
24 Nov 2007 10:48
A warm welcome plus 3 real ales (Greene King IPA, Black Sheep, and Timothy Taylor Landlord), make this a very pleasant watering hole. Opens all day, well worth a visit
12 May 2007 16:55
A gem of a pub, well off the beaten track (the nearest bus route is about 2 miles away). A good stopping off point on a cross-country walk. Well worth finding with at least 3 real ales which are changed frequently, and a warm welcome. Also has a restaurant.
28 Apr 2007 22:15
Dropped in one Saturday lunchtime. A selection of West Berkshire Brewery beers, and a welcoming atmosphere make this a pub well worth seeking out. The bus service through the village is not particularly frequent, but where better a place to go while waiting?
11 Oct 2006 11:05
Further to the entry of 31 May, the current landlady was NOT involved in the incident of assault mentioned, but this was a previous incumbent. Since Nikki took over, the pub has been cleaned up considerably, and I find that it is a good place to visit. Comments signed "Anonymous" are probably not worth it anyway.
