The Calthorpe Arms, Holborn

Nice to sit outside on a sunny day - felt at home immediately.
I will be back!

The Coach and Horses, Covent Garden

With the ratings I expected something a bit better than average!
The beer was good but not a great choice.
It's small and certainly is more of a pub than most around but did not have anything to make me go back out of my way!

The Old Bell, Fleet Street

I was bit disappointed in the Bell - beer was OK but not great and it all felt a bit ordinary. Maybe just an off day (me or the pub) - will resolve to go back and give it another chance!

The George, London Bridge

I think this pubs lives on its reputation or just its age.Perhaps for some that is enough but I found it pretentious, crowded and noisy. the service was poor and the ale indifferent. The building promises so much that is just not delivered - from outside it looks great. The clientele were a mixed bunch but too many hooray henry's with more money than sense and tourists mixing with "real" Londoners.
I am sorry but with a little bit of work to create an atmosphere and better service this could be fantastic. For now I will find somewhere with better beer nearby.

The Swan, Bank

Particularly good in summer but outside yesterday with an excellent pint of Pride. How does the Landlord manage to keep smiling when it is that busy?
Haven't tried the sandwiches yet!

Ship, Monument

Great range of Ales - Hounddog was my choice last night and a fine pint it was!
A l;ittle crowded but on a balmy spring evening it was Ok outside.
Definitely worth a trip - an oasis in the city!
One word of caution - barmaid was not the most fluent English speaker but she did her best!

The Walrus and Carpenter, Monument

Great beer - good range of real ales. Asked if I wanted jug or straight glass - its the little things that make a pub! Will definitely go back again

Red Lion, Monument

Great location and appearance but poor beer - fortunately quiet on Monday evening

27 Mar 2007 09:54

The Princess of Prussia, Tower Hill

Nothing special to look at, decor average inside. But good beer - well kept selction of Shepherd Neame beers, attentive bar staff. Didn't try the food but looked Ok
Worth a visit

The Half Moon, Stepney Green

Front bar often full of drunks but bright airy back bar and seating outside with a bit of atmosphere. Excellent range of Ales at Good prices (Wetherspoons get somethings right!)but seem to run out regularly. Bar staff can be a bit slow and unhelpful. Stands out in an area not renown for good pubs.

19 Sep 2006 09:44

The Artillery Arms, Old Street

Good Fullers but nothing special. Better than a lot in the area though. If you're passing call in but don't go out of your way!

19 Sep 2006 09:35

The Lamb, Bloomsbury

Glad to see this pub has kept its character over the years - first found it after an exam nearby many years ago. Excellent place to recover with good beer good company and good service

18 Jul 2006 13:10

The Jerusalem Tavern, Clerkenwell

A great pub. Good atmosphere with excellent choice of St Peters Ales. Helpful staff. When it goes no smoking it will be as near to paradise as you get!

11 Feb 2006 11:36

Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, Fleet Street

With it's history and all that you would expect a little more. So for me a bit disappointing. Beers OK, Food is OK but neither anything special. Great nooks and crannies and with a group of you a great place but lacks a bit of real pub atmosphere. Nevertheless a must-visit pub for all visitors to london

The Seven Stars, Chancery Lane

Great pub if there is room or it's warm outside! Good beer well kept.

22 Nov 2005 16:30

The Nags Head, Little Hadham

Good food but not really a drinkers pub! Excellent food at the weekend if you book.

22 Nov 2005 16:25

Good food served efficiently in a pub with character. In the summer garden is excellent

22 Nov 2005 15:01

The Star, Standon

Just changed hands with new menu. Little smokey round the bar but food still excellent and beer still well kept

The Star, Standon

Good village local with friendly staff and talkative locals. Food good and served efficiently - I think the walkers were unlucky. Worth a visit for the ale alone! Never left unsatisfied!

19 Oct 2005 11:08

The Old Doctor Butler's Head, Moorgate

Excellent watering hole with good selection of Shepherd Neame Ales. Bit frightening when 20 dark-suited clones walked in but good atmosphere if you ignore pasma screen. Foreign barmaid served short measure every time but filled up my glass with only a quiet groan on 4th occasion - didn't she get the message!

19 Oct 2005 09:47

The Nags Head, Wellpond Green

Now tried it out - Walls a bit bare but food excellent (smaller menu than before but good quality) Great comfy chairs and tables made of huge whisky bottles. Fair choice of Adnams Ales kept well

4 Oct 2005 16:57

The Feathers Inn, Wadesmill

Great carvery with great food. Lacks atmosphere as a pub though the beer is good. Have to be in early if you don't book on Sunday but never failed yet!

23 Sep 2005 17:05

The Nags Head, Wellpond Green

Now called the "Kick and Dickey" - yet to try it out but Three Tuns was great so look forward to a meal there soon!

23 Sep 2005 16:58

The Phoenix, City Of London

Not a bad pub but a bit pricey. Great not to have smoke all around! And seemed a happy place to me

17 May 2005 16:30

The Arbitrager, Bank

Nothing special - had one pint and left. Maybe I was in at a bad time and didn't try the downstairs bar but there are better pubs nearby!

17 May 2005 16:27

Old Nick, Holborn

Friendly pub with good beer (and full measures today!) Nice atmosphere and not too busy. Prompt service and well kept real ale. Will definitely go back again

9 May 2005 11:43

The Cock and Woolpack, City Of London

Average pub - beer nothing to write home about and a bit smokey when I visited. Many worse pubs around - at least it is a proper pub with atmosphere!

19 Apr 2005 11:43

The Counting House, Bank

Great environment for a beer and good fullers erved well by friendly staff. Just an oasis in the City that should never be missed!

19 Apr 2005 11:40

The Pack Horse, South Brent

Good Ale, Great banter on Saturday night here! The food looks good but not tried it yet. A good watering hole

29 Mar 2005 15:53

The Jerusalem Tavern, Clerkenwell

Old converted clockmakers shop serving St Peters Ale including an Organic Ale. Tiny Bar but well worth a visit

1 Feb 2005 13:20

The Hand and Shears, Barbican

Excellent beers but get's a bit crowded

1 Feb 2005 13:17

The Sekforde Arms, Clerkenwell

Good Youngs Pub
with reasonable food

1 Feb 2005 13:15

The Nags Head, Wellpond Green

Very friendly "local" pub. Good beer served by cheery staff. Excellent food both in the dining room and at the bar - especially like the curry

14 Dec 2004 13:37

The Railway Tavern, Chelmsford

Good beer but small and smokey

14 Dec 2004 10:09

The Rose and Crown, Writtle

Good selection of real ales at reasonable prices. Good food and good atmosphere. Don't miss the summer beer festival

14 Dec 2004 10:07

The Duck Inn, Writtle

Good beer but not cheap. Excellent food all home cooked - biggest pastry top to the steak pie I have ever seen. Not bad garden for the summer

14 Dec 2004 10:05

Ye Old Mitre, Holborn

Hard to find but well worth the trouble. Hidden away down a narrow alley this is one of the best pubs I have found in the area. Good beer served efficiently through a serving hatch - you can just imagine porter being served in the 16 century throught the same hatch. A must for visitors to London. And a present from Santa wioth a mince pie as well on 30th November 2004
