The Star appears to be a firm locals' pub. Everybody seemed to know one another and I appeared to be the only outsider. The language was choice, even in the lounge. The bar looked packed late on a Sunday afternoon. 4 ales were on - Greene King Abbot & IPA, Timothy Taylor Landlord & Crouch Vale Yakima Gold.

After three fairly average pints in Bishops Stortford we dropped into this historic pub opposite the church on the way home. I had by far the best pint of the evening in here - a Side Pocket for a Toad from the Tring brewery. My mate had one of the other three real ales on offer and he agreed his pint was also the best of the evening. Fairly quiet on a Saturday evening with about a dozen drinkers, but a nice atmosphere. Friendly barman and the menu looked good. Definitely worth a visit.

This Greene King pub is what i would class as a local friendly pub, very cosy with a very homely feeling. The selection of beers were good although on this occasion i stuck to some non alcoholic drinks. The Landlady and her family made us all feel very welcome and the locals were extremely friendy. Not a hint of the "your not from around here" mentality that you can get in some other pubs. The food wasnt sampled but i did notice they did what looked like a nice sunday lunch so will be sampling that in the not too distant future. They have plans for an upgrade to the smaller serving area to the left of the main entrance and once thats complete this pub will be even more appealing.

Definitely a pub to visit when in this delightful area of East Hertfordshire.

It has been a few years since I last came here. The friendly "old girl" has been replaced by a younger model, it's a shame the friendliness wasn't passed on. A couple of locals propping up the bar seemed to take all of her attention.
The menu mainly consisted of fish dishes. Food was ok - but I did hear the "ping" of a microwave. In most pubs a few minutes after receiving your food they ask you if everything is alright - don't expect that here.
I doubt if I'll return, especially as it is a Greene King pub. (Same three tasteless beers in every one of them.) Next time I will try the "Bell" just down the road. No I won't - that's bloody Greene King as well.

nice drinkers pub, but food terrible- especially sunday roast. Poor veg selection, frozen yorkshires and rude cook (someone who can use a microwave does not qualify as a chef..) One to miss.
