The Albert, St James's

I last went here some time ago wasnt ackowledged by the bar staff and rated it at 4. Giving it a second chance I was served and the barman was friendly, beer was fairly priced for area. The food looks fair at best, far better to be had less than 1/2 mile walk away upgraded it it to a 6...

The Bank of Friendship, Highbury

Still doing a good job though prices have increased somewhat 3.60 for a beer seems like the average for area on matchdays, not so sure I would pay that all the time though.

26 Apr 2011 15:07

The Union Rooms, Newcastle

Superior Spoons because of its large rambling high ceilings feels like you are having a house warming party in a bank, food ok etc

As for Wetherspoons you generally get a 6 or 7 no more so have given this one an 8 because it is better than the usual gloomy spoons and clientele are ok which is often a let down for Wetherspoons pubs. ( ie cheap drink, cheap food & cheap people )

26 Apr 2011 15:04

Tilleys Bar, Newcastle

As visiting Arsenal fans found this ok busy as you'd expect being a matchday but generally ok.

26 Apr 2011 15:01

The Kings Ford, Chingford

I went in there expecting the usual W'spoons type place and was not surprised even ate the uaual food and could have been anywhere in the country but in a Wspoons, it was gloomy and at 47 was the youngest in there...

26 Apr 2011 14:54

Bar Suede, Carlisle

Ok for a drink but couldnt spend an evening in there, cant remember anything of positive note really erm clean??

26 Apr 2011 14:45

The Royal Oak Inn, Scotby

Decent pub especially if staying at nearby hotels meaning you don't have to brave Carlisle centre. Pleasant pub overall .

26 Apr 2011 14:41

The Griffin, Carlisle

A large central pub very convenient for train station and does serve a couple of real ales namely "Jennings" which is fairly priced.

The clientele are a mixed bag of duffle coated loners and geriatrics that drag the place down a bit, if the clientele were not so inbred then would have given it a 7.

26 Apr 2011 14:38

The Shrimp, Morecambe

Grew up in nearby Westgate in 60,s was a rough old den then, however popped in a few times in early 80's imagine its ok still going with a 7! lol

18 Nov 2009 17:29

The Water Witch, Lancaster

Great place in summer bit bleak in winter used to enjoy the random canal trips on a Sunday evening at 1030pm after last orders were called, happy days!

18 Nov 2009 17:27

The Brown Cow, Lancaster

The Ring O'Bells, Lancaster

Yes lived in Lancaster around 83-88 was ok may well have to revisit recall it was ok had bit of character...

18 Nov 2009 17:24

The Spinners Arms, Cummersdale

Not been here for 20 odd years will give it a 6 though!

18 Nov 2009 17:17

The Bridge End Inn, Bridge End

Quiet pub and best visited in summer where you can sit outside, pleasant but dull bit like Dalston itself!

18 Nov 2009 17:16

St Nicholas Arms, Carlisle

St Nick has always been a quite good pub, nothing speacial just an honest friendly boozer! The only thing that isnt friendly is the gruff Wolverhampton who serves behind the bar ( in 25 yers dont think I have seen him smile yet) it's almost worth going in for a laugh to see his cutomer service skills in full swing! Cheap food, football shown, beer fine!
Barman " yup"
Customer " can I have 2 bitters please?"
Barman "pints" no expression!
Customer "er pes please"
Barman " 5 pund!" holding out grubby hand
Customer " can I have some salted peanuts too?"
Barman "tuts" " 5 pund 40!"

18 Nov 2009 13:47

The Pedestrian Arms, Carlisle

Ok working pub, not great but ok ages since my last visit.

18 Nov 2009 13:41

The Kings Head Inn, Carlisle

This pub hasnt changed in 25 years I ve known it, floorboard creaks just right of centre of bar area. Could be a lot better to be honest on the outside a vintage pub real beams, historic past etc and once inside there a couple of students sipping their "one hour" cokes and a drunk argiung with himself whilst clutching 2 pounds of pork sausages from Cranstons butchers a few doors down! Nice to visit for one or two but like I said, " Katherine Jenkins" on the outsie and more "Jordan" inside!

18 Nov 2009 13:38

The Joiners Arms, Carlisle

Good old fashioned working mens pub ok!

18 Nov 2009 13:30

The Griffin, Carlisle

Reasonably priced central pub, avoid on match days if possible as its nearest pub to the train station. Ok but nothing special!

18 Nov 2009 13:29

Cafe Sol, Carlisle

Not a pub as such but trendy continental style all rounder pleasant enough, nice area , coffee good! Live music now and again!

18 Nov 2009 13:27

The Boardroom, Carlisle

Ok pub in historical area, one time hells angels pub many years ago! Nice area and away from yobs & chavettes throwing up over each other down beautiful Botchergate!

18 Nov 2009 13:25

The William IV, Leyton

Very good pub overall been in several times they do food which I havent sampled but looks fine, think they have Thai food there now! Real ales, good pre match for watching Leyton Orient actually, friendly enough too!

18 Nov 2009 13:23

The Drum, Walthamstow

Probably my favourite Spooner pub, small for spoons therefore you feel as if you are somewhere different to be honest ok not bad, good value etc!

18 Nov 2009 13:20

The Bootlaces, Walthamstow

Ok little boozer nothing special better than the Bakers Arms locally on par with th Drum oposite. Oirsh through and through!

18 Nov 2009 13:18

The Iron Duke, Victoria station

Station pub , if you need a drink and desparate fair enough! You need to crack a combination safe to use the loo though better pubs a short walk accross the road try the "Stage Door" pub.

poor !

18 Nov 2009 13:15

Harrods Bar, Knightsbridge

Expensive but ok for people watching that's it, amusing to see people with more money than sense buying their organic vegetables then lugging them around in a designer carried bag. Lots of empty headed women doing the "Mwwwahhh" kiss and saying Daaarllling a lot!

18 Nov 2009 13:13

The Sportsman Inn, Carlisle

This is on par with the nearby Howard Arms has the food advantage though, very pleasant Chris H is a fan of this place too! Real fire, friendly service too!

16 Nov 2009 17:27

The Howard Arms, Carlisle

One of Carlisle's better pubs, honest decent what you see is what you get! Quirky set up never changed much in 25 yrs apart from the staff rotation worth a visit!

16 Nov 2009 17:25

The Border Rambler, Carlisle

Bit basic used to be the Albion years ago was well rough then, has improved somewhat but think its now slipping back to its former. The only thing that's kept it going really is the location smack bang in the middle of all the carnage "down Botch" no thrills apart from the headbutt, loud music average beer & prices.

16 Nov 2009 17:23

Willow Walk, Victoria

Has a funny smell usually I think it's the unwashed punters who discuss the world in there all day every day to be honest. If you must enter, its a spoons but not a good one at all.

16 Nov 2009 17:19

The Feathers, St James's

Pride in here still 2.50 there are other ales too, wouldnt really eat in here ( better places far cheaper locally ) Recommend for a beer & quiet drink though! Has a good selection of Malt ( Oban ) very good!

16 Nov 2009 17:16

The Drayton Arms, Highbury

Pub for football fans, away fan friendly, crowded on match days ok but would nt go in there any other time, basic facilities catering for 300 fans!

16 Nov 2009 17:13

The Dog and Duck, Walthamstow

Agreed think this place was going downhill epecially as the Dog track has gone this pub was going to the dogs! ( sorry) However, this pub is fighting back with a simple menu, disco for the over something's and a general tidy up. Giving it a 7 however need to visit again in near future.

16 Nov 2009 17:11

The Cock Tavern, Walthamstow

Warsaw comes to Walthamstow in this once fine east end market pub. Now its all silver high heels and oud euro pomp music, lary drunks and the odd bust up. It's never been posh but a shame when a real jellied eels of a rubba dubba dub is given this overhaul. If you must go in try daytime you might hear the voices of distant eastender market traders and banter! Can you watch my stall mate, now it's watch your wallet!

16 Nov 2009 17:08

The Castle, Walthamstow

Not really a pub just somewhere where young teachers and semi professionals gather without much drive, then they go to the Nags Head as well, boring another pub bites the dust.

16 Nov 2009 17:02

The Sheepwalk, Leytonstone

Bit of a dive, that has music, some real desparate people frequent though, won't be rushing back, has it lost its licence yet?

Until I hear differ I would sooner go the W'spoons futher up the rd.

16 Nov 2009 16:57

The Dukes Head, Walthamstow

Fantastic live music at weekends it can be a little daunting if the locals stare (they dont bite, only when hungry) It's a big pub therefore feels a little empty at times landlord has improved this pub, credit to him. Certainly could improve the service a little, its fairly slick but the odd cheers mate, thanks would be nice. Potential to do better but has improved a lot in last 2 years!

16 Nov 2009 16:54

College Arms, Walthamstow

No real ale, ok clean, some weekend entertainment, hard core of locals and professionals from council offices and college nearby. A real ale or 2 would push this to a 8 perhaps alas a 7 it is.

16 Nov 2009 16:48

The Bank of Friendship, Highbury

Ok pub been a few times last time I was there a clueless barmaid but pretty barmaid served me a cloudy pint of real ale, problem was soon rectified with a smile from the more knowledgable head barman I presume. Outside seating area, packed on matchdays but a pleasant Gooner oasis nevertheless.

16 Nov 2009 16:44

The Woodbine, Highbury

Nice real ale, busy matchdays far more civilised than some nearby. Comfy leather settee too, ok all rounder for Gooners like me who enjoy a drop of real beer!

16 Nov 2009 16:41

The William Rufus, Carlisle

No character of course but caters for the smashed 19 yr old girls in mobs and solitary preditor types hunting his chavettes. Ok for football I think ok earlier in evening I suppose not what I would call a pub, however it does serve beer & ales! 7 by day 6 by night!

16 Nov 2009 16:23

The Cumberland Inn, Carlisle

One of my old haunts has nt changed much in last 25 years the stuffed buffalo's head has gone the lingering pungent aroma of stale tobacco a distant memory. Great old building seems to have lost its way in last few years not a real ale pub by any means ok rough n ready, still gets lively though.

16 Nov 2009 16:19

The Drovers Rest Inn, Monkhill

ok little pub used to visit this place 20 years ago so someone who has been lately will be able to update review its probably got lights a working till and alsorts now.

16 Nov 2009 15:51

The Crown, Carlisle

Poor think its on its way out, 15 yrs ago was no better than a 6 really.

16 Nov 2009 15:50

The Corby Bridge Inn, Great Corby

Used to drink here years ago landlord was Dick, mmm was ok.

16 Nov 2009 15:48

Cranemakers, Carlisle

Pleasant and homely pub, some real ale and luches look value for money. Football friendly crowd oh yea and there is a friendly dog, not bad effort. Just far enough from town to deter the trouble makers that blight centralCarlisle.

16 Nov 2009 15:47

Wetherspoons, Victoria Station

Cheap and your in a busy station mmm there is another turning right outside the station however if trapped by travel plans will do.

W'spoons after all, cheap ding ding menu and toilets checked on the hour with a little person with an illedgible squiggle depite there being a big steaming Richard the 3rd lurking in the depths in trap3. You can perhaps buy a chewable toothbrush or register online in the loo for some American gambling poker site, I mean who does that in a pub toilet? I'll clean my minging mouth, register with online Poker maybe apply for a post here too?

16 Nov 2009 15:43

The The Old Monk Exchange, Westminster

Ok not too bad, food & real ales, clean etc great for office lunching types but not the sort of place you would go for a long session really.

16 Nov 2009 15:36

The Royal Standard, Portsmouth

Got character, enjoy a few in here no thrills basics!

16 Nov 2009 15:34

16 Nov 2009 15:33

The Registry, Portsmouth

Ok for sudents not a place for grown ups!

16 Nov 2009 15:32

Painters Arms, Portsmouth

Rough, plain, if you must go in have one then leave far better places nearby!

16 Nov 2009 15:30

The Old Customs House, Portsmouth

Purpose built mock up with corporate after taste, clean & pleasant enough but boring! Head to old Portsmouth for the real thing!

16 Nov 2009 15:29

The Lady Hamilton, Portsmouth

Mmmm bit of a dive no soul shame for a historical pub!

16 Nov 2009 15:25

The Invincible, Portsmouth

Ok nothing special, handy for dockyard. Think it was friendly enough think they have some coins superglued to the bar so somewhere there has a sense of humour.

16 Nov 2009 15:23

The Blue Anchor, Portsmouth

Ok nothing special, cheapish if I remember rightly.

16 Nov 2009 15:20

The Albany, Portsmouth

Proper dive full of smelly little skint matelots used to be better as the MF in my day at least there used to be some atmosphere then in the 80's!

Dont bother with this one!

16 Nov 2009 15:19

The The Old Monk Exchange, Westminster

16 Nov 2009 15:14

The Westminster, Westminster

Toursisty souless clean & with side order of pricey! Crisps are a 1!

16 Nov 2009 15:14

16 Nov 2009 15:06

The Silver Cross, Whitehall

Toursisty souless clean & corperate bland with side order of pricey!

16 Nov 2009 15:04

The Old Shades, Whitehall

Ok some real ale s, food expensive & touristy expensive bangers & mash type, clean & friendly enough.

16 Nov 2009 15:02

The Jugged Hare, Pimlico

Ok strong real ales, clean & tidy nothing speacial.

16 Nov 2009 14:59

The Greencoat Boy, Victoria

Ok clean & tidy used by local professionals nothing exciting but better than some of the more touristy tatty pubs in SW1.

My mate Shaun B used to salivate over the lipstick lesbians that used to regularily French kiss outside!

16 Nov 2009 14:55

The Colonies, Westminster

Ok clean & tidy used by local professionals nothing exciting but better than some of the more touristy tatty pubs in SW1.

16 Nov 2009 14:53

The Constitution, Pimlico

Decent enough pub in snooty area, the meal deal is great value, real ale, clean and friendly enough. You get the odd lost tourist however generally services locals and working public nearby, ok to good.

16 Nov 2009 14:51

The Cask and Glass, Victoria

Great little watering hole thats what it is, tiny but a little gem, real ale!

16 Nov 2009 14:45

The Barley Mow, Westminster

Nothing special, clean ok but lacks any character whatsoever

16 Nov 2009 14:43

The Albert, St James's

Walked in waited and waited, barstaff didnt ackowledge, full of miserable tourists eating their over priced London fare, didnt bother with a drink and left.

16 Nov 2009 14:36

The Abbey, Westminster

Comforatble, food, clean you go here with mixed company I suppose does a selection of real ales though!

16 Nov 2009 14:34

The Crown and Cushion, Waterloo

Not inviting outside, however once inside you step back around 40 years apart from the live streaming of the horses. Proper old fashioned, dark drinking den for the Irish and working men. There is Thai food served upstairs too!

So if you like a masculine pub set in 1959 that has an Oriental twist then this is the pub for you! I think Shaun B will like it though!

16 Nov 2009 14:31

The Cardinal, Victoria

Pleasant enough no thrills, great for conversation & cheaper drinks.

16 Nov 2009 14:25

The Speaker, Westminster

Friendly real ale pub with almost village style feel in relaxed rustic atmosphere in Westminster. We enjoy the sarcastic banter and quick fire innuendos with "Dennis the menace" behind the bar, not forgetting the charming Dublin diamond and her "huge door-stoppers" by that I mean her simple tasty sandwhiches!! The beauty of this pub is its pure simplicity and takes you back to about 1969 only downside are 2009 prices but you never know?

Enjoy!

2 Jul 2009 16:27

The Castle, Walthamstow

This so called pub is like some sort of waiting room, poor service no characters. No atmosphere at all chilled sums it up erm chilly with frosty people behind the bar. Service is slow and as if you are a pain of some kind... I think the secret is to ask for a tub of overpriced olives to go with your drink, saying that go to another pub like the Nags Head it really is dreadfull.

20 Dec 2007 22:12

The Nags Head, Walthamstow

This so called pub is a beacon of dull mediocrity for its semi professional punters. They are like olive eating chav's really mostly in debt sipping Belgian beer on tatty table-cloths,"mange tout Rodney". Children are allowed in but made to feel most unwelcome along with their parents.

27 Nov 2007 21:51

The Flower Pot, Walthamstow

Great friendly boozer, great music, no trouble just good beer and genuine people.
