Clean and well kept and curiously not overly "sporty" for a pub called the Sportsman. Food seemed popular. Friendly staff. Not a fire cracker. It wants to be more than it currently is, but certainly worth a visit. Nice location. Lancaster Blonde was acceptable but a bit cold. ulverstoned - 25 Mar 2011 19:46 |
Cosy bar tucked away behind the shops. Very crowded on the Saturday lunchtime I visited, mostly eaters rather than drinkers. Staff very friendly but the Jennings Cumberland was only so-so. Pop in for a swifty if you don't mind standing. Yellerbelly - 3 Oct 2010 07:13 |
This is on par with the nearby Howard Arms has the food advantage though, very pleasant Chris H is a fan of this place too! Real fire, friendly service too! steviewonder - 16 Nov 2009 17:27 |
On hols, Sunday afternoon with one of the party demanding a Sunday Roast we chanced upon the Sportsman and decided to give it a go. We were not disappointed - this is a cosy bar with polite and friendly staff. The Sunday lunch was excellent, and no skimping on the servings. We all left pleasantly full. As an added bonus the sign proclaims they serve food up until 5pm on a Sunday, which makes a pleasant change to many. precinct13 - 29 Apr 2009 13:40 |
Often in the real ale guides but there aren't any pumps so I'm not sure why! Nice cosy pub though, with a good reputation for food. Would be better with ale though! Carlurmston - 5 Jun 2007 14:11 |
