'man_of_kent' sounds rather bitter, perhaps because the pub has now converted to a student venue and thus sells cheap lager, plays loud music and probably features fewer guest ales. If you're a student from the area it's worth the odd pint.

The Rising Sun, Tottenham Court Road
Passable pub, probably better at lunchtime when it's not too busy, serves quite good food, but it basically lacks character or anything to really recommend it above anywhere else.

The Jack Horner, Tottenham Court Road
Perfectly nice Fuller's pub, did a very good cheeseburger when I went and pretty good value for the area.

Nice atmosphere, quite large comfortable interior and a big well-furnished garden. Good drinks selection and the house vodka is Russian Standard which certainly bodes well. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

Did a very good bangers and mash. Nice ambiance, friendly locals, near to the centre and not too expensive. Also has a coffin for a table. I rate that.

Now called Remedy, it's much nicer than when it was Bar XS but it seems to have lost some of its character. Seems to be a much higher percentage of students there than previously, but the food is very good now so I'll take that.

Nicer than your average Wetherspoon, but at the end of the day it remains a Wetherspoon.

Very good some nights, very bad other nights. Pick wisely.

Surely the best pub in the whole of Wimbledon, now that the Dog and Fox has gone No Smoking and pretends to be Finch's and the Rose and Crown still charges about 50p more for any drink and isn't worth it in the slightest..?
17 Jan 2007 23:06
Not much space, especially with the footy on, but alright for a swift one. Not as cheap as it me be, though...

The Hole In The Wall, Waterloo
The only good place in Waterloo. Not saying much, but it's nice for a quiet pint if you're in the neighbourhood. When I say 'quiet' I mean without loud music. It is under a rather busy railway bridge so it's not actually very quiet, but who am I to complain?
11 Jan 2007 22:46
It's not as bad as most Spoonses... That's about all I can say in its defense. Probably best to avoid.

The Hand and Raquet, Wimbledon
Pretty boring, it sells alcohol and isn't in the village. Apart from that there is little to recommend it. Go to the Alex next door.

The Dog and Fox, Wimbledon Village
Rubbish. No smoking, over-21's only, ruined the interior, charging 10 entry on Christmas Eve (didn't even bother to check New Year's)...
A crime has been committed in our midst.

The Rose and Crown, Wimbledon Village
Distinctly average. A run of the mill Young's pub that feels it can justify massively inflated drinks prices purely because of its location. Nice enough though, if you don't mind the "villagers" packing it out. Probably not so much now it's gone over-21's, though.

The Brewery Tap, Wimbledon Village
Probably the best pub in the village. That's a difficult achievement. The cheapest pints around, but still requiring a mortgage. If you can afford it and don't mind being surrounded by public school kids all Friday and Saturday nights then it's alright.

The King Of Denmark, West Wimbledon
A proper local pub, with cheaper drinks than most village pubs and a much nicer atmosphere. Unfortunately it's closing down soon, so hurry for a final pint.

The Kingston Mill, Kingston Upon Thames
Cheap drinks for the area so full of students. Surprising? I think not. Students don't mind a below-par atmosphere and unnecessarily loud music if there are cheaper drinks on offer; if you find this irritating then maybe this isn't the place for you...
2 Jan 2007 17:17
Fair place, but expensive. Decent cocktails, though. I'd say hit happy hour if you want to drink a lot without a mortgage.
20 Dec 2006 12:03
Good fun bar, and not too expensive. Always fun to crash parties on the first floor as well.
10 Dec 2006 02:48
Doormen are indeed a joke, having refused various people I know on a number of ocassions but once inside it's nice. And they serve Desperados, which is always a bonus. 2 cocktails as well.
10 Dec 2006 02:45
Friendly landlord and staff and good service. Nice place and a wide variety of generally nice customers. What moer do you want?
10 Dec 2006 02:42
They serve Desperados. Need I say more? Late license if you go see random gigs downstairs. From time to time there's actually someone good on!
10 Dec 2006 02:41
Nicer earlier in the evening when you don't have to pay to get in and there aren't too many sweaty, drunk students there. Drinks a bit pricey though.
4 Nov 2006 11:59
Nice enough, bit far too pricey for what it is and where it is. Not really worth it, especially with the length of time it takes to serve anyone.
4 Nov 2006 11:57
Fun place with a nice atmosphere and nice decor, but the drinks are a bit expensive for your average student to come here too regularly unfortunately.
9 Oct 2006 16:17
Good cheap drinks and quite cheap food, and you can get a student discount card for only a quid, so it's all good. Handy for students wanting a bit of a pick-me-up between lectures.
9 Oct 2006 16:15
Far too expensive for the studenty area, but very nice for a quiet pint if you don't mind splashing out, and good food, too.
9 Oct 2006 16:09
Expensive except for happy hour, but then that's to be expected. Good fun place, apart from that, loud music and lots of cool, friendly people.
6 Sep 2006 16:18
Nipped into this place before catching a train and I thought it was great. Maybe a little smelly, but awesome decorations and not too expensive booze. Result.
26 May 2006 18:45
I quite agree with "sidjtu", except that it doesn't always have sport on; sometimes one is treated to loud and crappy pop music at a volume which makes it just that bit more difficult to make oneself heard, especially after factoring in the babbling plebeians

The Swan Tavern, West Wimbledon
Great pub, good food, friendly staff, nice beer garden and has a weekly quiz night. One of my friends got lamped there a while back, but that can happen in the best of places. Highly reccomended.

The Robert Peel, Kingston Upon Thames
I can't help you about beer or type of cups, but the N77 goes right past the pub and that can take you to Kingston or Wimbledon and plenty of other places further afield. It's also pretty near Norbiton station where you can get trains to Richmond.

I think that 'terfysgwr' is being somewhat harsh here. Yes, it's expensive, but it's a Young's pub in Wimbledon so that's hardly a surprise is it? It is no more expensive than most other similar pubs in the area.
15 Feb 2006 20:52
Bar staff not great, even at 3 in the afternoon, but the decor more than makes up for it. Lovely booths and wooden panelling and all that sort of stuff. Even old school tiled urinals.
18 Jan 2006 22:41
Don't see what all the fuss is about. The "trendy" atmosphere extends to the decore and no further. Seats comfortable, if a little sparse, and bar staff very friendly. Excellent in the summer on the river front of an evening.

The Kings Tun, Kingston Upon Thames
Worse even than the average 'spoons. Complete pit. Cheap, though. I'd reccomend the Coronation Hall in Surbiton if you're looking for a much nicer 'spoons. Still not that great though.

Bishop Out Of Residence, Kingston Upon Thames
Music a little loud on Saturdays sometimes, but otherwise a nice Young's pub. Recently refurbished so it's all nice inside and I recently rented the upstairs room for a party and I was excellent. Highly reccomended to non-chavs.

Horrible place, rubbish bar staff too.
