Not really my kind of place at all. Went in here and felt decidedly old! To say this place is expensive would be an understatement. Some beers on the chalk board were £4.50 a pint - I nearly died! Thankfully I recall the real ales were a little cheaper. The smell of fresh coffee and limes at the bar should probably have been enough of a warning sign that this place wasn't really for me. Considering this place is a "student bar" I can't understand the ridiculous prices they're charging. £4.50 for a 4% real ale is quite outlandish by anyone's standards. Okay they offer discount for CAMRA members (which I am) but even still! Place itself is quirky enough with a hippy feel. Two floors with two staircases on either side. Extensive Belgian bottle range but yet again very expensive. realalerules1983 - 26 Jun 2013 10:55 |
Modern bar popular with young people and students and very conveniently located next to Oxford Road station. It was the best of 3 places we visited in Manchester last night. 4 ales are now on. Yesterday, they were Magic Rock Dark Arts, Thornbridge Warp, Buxton Wild Boar & Oakham Multi Head. There were also 2 ciders and a perry - Thistly Cross Original & Rum Cask & Hecks Perry. The bottled selection was also impressive. This bar is definitely worth a try. It's not a traditional pub. But it does sell some interesting wares. blue_scrumpy - 31 Dec 2012 21:04 |
The 2 ales on are good northern style beers at reasonable for manchester prices (2.50-3) with discounts for card carrying CAMRA members anonymous - 30 Sep 2011 18:42 |
Well it was in the beer guide, so I gave it a try. I was quite surprised on a Saturday lunchtime to see the pub full of people drinking tea and eating full English breakfasts. Anyhow there were two ales on offer, the first one ran out before the glass was full, so I had the other. It was ok. fromedrinker - 10 Feb 2009 22:23 |
