Sister pub to the Hand and Heart, this is a great pub with several Real Ales and excellent menu. one to take the wife or mother but also good for a stop off on a pub crawl around the Castle area.

Great little boozer. Usual Castle Rock Fayre plus guests. One of only 2 bar billiards tables in Nottingham. the sort of place to wile away an afternoon.

Warm friendly welcome to all here. London Pride and Harvest Pale in good condition when I visited. With New Brewdog pub and Broadway close by it makes Broad street a worthwhille walk.
13 Apr 2012 14:38
Now the Major Oak it has become a cracking pub with great choice of Ale and friendly efficient staff.
13 Apr 2012 14:28
Always a good Choice of well kept Ales. Bottled beer range also excellent. And to top it all the Gents loo is right next to the bar to save valuable drinking time.
13 Apr 2012 14:10
Walked out without a drink last week as Barmaid served 2 females out of turn and when challenged argued about it instead of apologising. It's always a shame when an otherwise great place is let down by poor service. dropping my rating by 2

Visited for first time last week and will definately go again. Very well kept Wadworths Ales and friendly service. Lovely little Pub.
13 Apr 2012 13:43
Very Disappointed. I visited on Tuesday at 2 30 hoping to have a spot of lunch before driving back to Nottingham only to be told they stopped cooking. I was shocked that they would turn custom away on Easter Tuesday. Will not be visiting again.
13 Apr 2012 13:39
Always enjoy a visit to the Wykeham. Not tried the food yet but the Beer is constantly good and pleased to see some Non Fullers beers on offer.
13 Apr 2012 13:32
I didn't Eat here but my first visit was a very pleasant surprise. The Ale was excellant and derseves it's place in this years GBG. The Old Vine is definately a must on a Winchester pub Crawl.

The Slug and Lettuce, Winchester
I feel the need to defend this place. I had lunch here last Tuesday and the food and Beer was up to the good standard of any of it's chain I have tried. The Veggie lasagne is wonderful.
13 Apr 2012 13:21
Very friendly Staff let down sadly by the limited choice of Ales and high prices. The Pool table really doesnt fit. Perhaps they ought to replace it with a Bar Billiards table. And get some none GK beers
13 Apr 2012 13:17
Went in for the first time last week and really liked it. Sadly there was only GK Ales on offer so went for the Thatchers Cider from a barrel on the bar which was excellent. Barmaid was very welcoming and friendly. Will definately visit again.
13 Apr 2012 13:11
Revisited The Albion last week and was impressed by the Improvements. Was clean, comfortable and friendly and what's more important the Ale was good and a nice selection of Whisky. Yes a littlle exppensive but everywhere is in Winchester.
13 Apr 2012 13:07
Good Traditional 2 roomed Pub with good choice of Ale. Table service in Lounge.

The Rose of England, Nottingham
Great City centre pub with good choice of well kept Ales. Cheap good quality Sunday roasts. Occasional Beer Festivals and has made it into 2012 Good Beer Guide for 1st time.
15 Feb 2012 12:06
Discovered this place on Saturday and has instantly become IMO the best Pub in Winchester. Ale was excellent especially the "I can't believe it's not Bitter" well deserving of it's Award. Mind your head on the way to the delightful Beer Garden. I love it 10 out of 10

What a cracking boozer. proper ale drinkers pub with friendly knowledgable staff. tried all 4 ales on offer that day and all were excellent though I would have prefered it if a dark beer was on offer. but will try to return in the autumn to try those. The IPA was particularly good.

This pub has upped the anti. from now on this is the village pub that all others are measured against. from the initial veiw of the outside to the lovely different rooms inside including the fabulous bar with all the beer and real cider straight from the cask. then outside to the quirky covered decking area with bookcases and rustically furnished garden, I was completely blown away by this pub.10 out of 10 and I will be trying to buy it just as soon as I win the lottery.
8 Aug 2011 18:40
Selection of Beer obviously improved. I selected the Itchen valley Winchester ale which was very nice and the decor and funiture gave a feeling of oppulence. definately one for the grown ups.

The Horse and Groom, Alresford
Nice place with friendly staff. Would say this is the pub for the younger drinkers in Alresford, Choice of Ale limited but London Pride was in good condition and would definately visit again.

The Globe on the Lake, Alresford
"CaptainDave" I think I can safely say they have sorted it out. What a fabulous pub this is. Location and beer garden is absoloutely Idyllic and the Ales and service was that good on the saturday I visited whilst out walking that we went back on the Sunday with my family for lunch and the quality of the food and service did not disappoint. I would recommend this place to anyone. Definately the pick of the Pubs in Alresford.
8 Aug 2011 11:43
Friendly service and well kept Ales When I visited. but nothing special but didn't eat so can't comment on that,
8 Aug 2011 11:35
Great Pub in a great location, although the choice of Ale was limited to 3 Wadsworths The Farmers Glory was outstanding. Staff and Clientelle were very welcoming and I will not hesitate in visiting again next time I'm in the area.
8 Aug 2011 11:27
Building is lovely from the outside but all over the place inside with a ridiculous trek to get to the very nice beer garden. Female member of staff tried to over charge us and was quite rude when corrected. Distinct lack of knowledge of thier over priced Ales and didn't know what CAMRA was! The ales were average Greene King fare. Things must have changed since "oddbod" visited.
8 Aug 2011 11:18
I was Most impressed with the friendly staff and excellent ale. I had the First Gold and Fursty Ferret and both were in very good condition. I would definately Visit again next time I'm in the area. Was dissapointed it didn't open til 12 on a saturday as waiting to have a beer there put us behind on our day walking the Itchen valley
8 Aug 2011 10:35
I must disagree with last comment. The Dragon is definately above average and they always have a selection of Adnams including the best kept Broadside in the City. Beer garden is great. good eclectic mix of music too.

Love this place, great Ale staff always attentive. Hate to pass without going in.

The Coach and Horses, Nottingham
Change of management and redecorated recently makes it a lot nicer and still has lively atmosphere.
22 Jul 2011 19:42
Food and Ale excellent. Love the quirkily furnished back room with its little nooks and crannies
22 Jul 2011 19:39
worst Pint of Pedigree I have ever tasted and Barmaid said they had had complaints all night and changed it for a half decent German Wheat beer it left me wondering why they hadn't took the Pedigree off instead of hoping the Oiks wouldn't notice.
22 Jul 2011 19:31
Cafe Bar Contemporary, Nottingham
Found it a bit soul less and too much like a Canteen for me and couldn't relax.
Making quality of Food and Drinks irrelevant.
22 Jul 2011 19:23
Closed.no Open no closed wait a minute no open again. surely someone can make a go of it. If the new owners stop trying to attract the "Shameless/Jeremy Kyle Crowd" then it may become a good pub again. Ideally situated to get shop staff for lunch or early doors or students or Mansfield road crawlers but sadly attracts none of these.
22 Jul 2011 19:14
The Bentinck Hotel, Nottingham
With it's location right next to the Railway Station this place should be a goldmine but instead its a hole! No real ale crap service and don't think its been cleaned since the age of steam.
22 Jul 2011 19:05
Jinky11 obviously not been for a while. King Billy now a completely different place. Beer and atmosphere brilliant. Just a shame it's a bit out the way. Still good to link up with the Moot, The Nottingham Castle and Bunkers Hill if you don't mind walking
22 Jul 2011 17:22
The Royal Children, Nottingham
Cosy Pub with decent selection of Ales, well worth a visit
22 Jul 2011 16:22
The Navigation Inn, Nottingham
Re-opened ages ago Now a qualityu real ale pub with good menu. serves as Magpie Brewery tap. Done a really good job of the decor but does seem to lack a little atmosphere.
22 Jul 2011 16:16
Nice clean pub, good food and Ales but its real atraction is the Best Selection of excellent Rums in Nottingham if not the Midlands, and not overly expensive either.
21 Jul 2011 17:04
Supposedly upgraded quality and selection of Beer but when I went in the other week the Ale was so warm I suggeted the cooler in cellar must be on the blink and the Barmaid just shrugged and asked if I wanted John Smiths instead. Needless to say I'm not in a hurry to go back any time soon.
21 Jul 2011 16:43
Cracking little pub. could do with serving some bar food if only Cobs or Pies.
21 Jul 2011 16:36
Now up and running. They've done a great job on the refurb and the Ales are excellent as you'd expect when looked after Joe, The former cellerman of the Crown Inn at beeston. Last years East Midland Pub of the year. The Organ Grinder or The OG as it's becoming known may well be a contender for next year.
21 Jul 2011 16:32
lovely decor but Ridiculously over priced even for a P+P
18 Aug 2010 16:15
I Take great pride in being threatened to be thrown out of The Angel for Laughing too loud. Too loud for the Angel ?????
17 Aug 2010 22:57
Not quite sure what planet modrinkin is on, yes it is a bit expensive but the Ale is excellent, how can you ever use the phrase "cracking pint of John Smiths" and expect to be taken seriuosly???

The Rose of England, Nottingham
The Rose is improving all the time, They even had Old Peculier on last week and are talking about increasing their choice of Malt whiskies. The monday night quiz is great fun and even though some of the regulars do seem a bit strange this only adds to the appeal. In my opinion this is what a traditional corner pub should be,

The Rose of England, Nottingham
Simon the Landlord has turned this place around and is now a must on the Mansfield road pub crawl. Good ale and good service.

The Salutation Inn, Nottingham
Great Beer, Great Music Great atmosphere and they've even done the bogs up what more could you ask for.
8 May 2008 11:04
The Lincolnshire Poacher, Nottingham
Best Pub in Nottingham Range of beer and whisky is outstanding I cannot find a fault worth mentioning other than I have to walk uphill to get there.
8 May 2008 10:55
Personally I've never had bad service or a bad pint in here but the fixtures and fittings are a bit grotty but that doesn't effect the enjoment as its a place to drop in not stop in
8 May 2008 10:50
This place is terrible but i still love going in. it is dirty, expensive, lousy beer, the toilets should be napalmed and the staff fumigated but it still has something that draws me in and i'm not even a big fan of punk.
8 May 2008 10:43
Always a good pint of Bombadier available and staff always friendly
8 May 2008 10:35
The Bell is having a serious refurb at the moment.just the one small sidebar open. Hopefully Greene King will allow it to become the pub it once was. that is the best real ale pub in the city centre but knowing greene king I doubt it
8 May 2008 10:33
Fabulous little oasis, great beer and ambience another must visit pub!
8 May 2008 10:08
Lovely quirky place with ok selection of beer but staff a bit of a let down. the 2 on when I visited couldn't raise a smile and when asked if they gave CAMRA discount they didn't know what Camra was which is a little strange for a real ale pub to say the least. with a few changes this could be the perfect pub
8 May 2008 10:05
Absolutely love this place and will visit it everytime i come to York.
8 May 2008 09:56
"It's a Scream pub what do you expect?" does not excuse bad service and a lousy choice of beer, and had to wait almost an hour for a cold plate of sloppy mash and solid sausages.A rather unpleasant experience all round.
8 May 2008 09:51
another lovely quirky little pub, good beer not quite as nice as the Slipper next door
8 May 2008 09:45
Popped in for one on 3rd May. excellant beer, friendly staff and nice atmosphere.
8 May 2008 09:43
Speakeasy, Nottingham
Now Spanky Van Dykes. Still aimed at students but does sell real ale.
