Best spot on the Gallowgate for a pre-match pint (although that doesn't say a great deal as there are some serious hovels in the vicinity). Recommended.

Good effort at an Irish bar (they usually make an absolute balls of it). Worth a visit if that's your kind of thing.

Fine city centre pub - atmospheric with friendly staff.

One of the best Celtic pubs in Glasgow. If you actively dislike Celtic this isn't the place for you, although that should be pretty obvious.

Identikit soulless faux Irish chain bar that's best avoided, unless identikit soulless faux Irish chain bars are your thing. They're not mine.

Love the idea behind the place and try to call in when I'm in town. Pleasant spot inside with friendly staff and some interesting artefacts on the walls, although I think they could make more of their USP: Up the Workers!

Great looking pub that gets a good crowd and serves a good selection of interesting beer (which isn't especially common in Liverpool). Let down by the barman who served us who was persistently rude over the few hours we were there. Ignore him though, as we did, and its a grand place.

The makings of a decent pub, although the owner is a tool who is obviously trying to cultivate a contrarian character for himself but just comes across as rude, and to women in particular.

A much better pub than the reviews here suggest. Cosy atmosphere and lively at the weekends.

Titanic have done a good job on this place, after it passed through a couple of landlords in quick succession who couldn't make a go of it. They've gutted it and started again, which was needed. Fine selection of beer and nice environment.

Pretty soulless Wetherspoonesque pub that's about to out Wetherspooned by the Wetherspoons opening down the road. Not the place for me, but busiest pub in the town so must be doing something right.

Cracking traditional pub tucked away down a side-street, run by a really friendly landlord. Real community feel to the pub and decent, reasonably-priced food. If they made their own chips they'd get an extra point.

Pleasant spot and gets a decent crowd. Staff could do with cheering up a bit though.

The Sun Hotel and Bar, Lancaster
Excellent pub, ales well kept, the barman's name was Colin.

Smashing pub -landlord is a gent, atmosphere superb.
Well worth a visit.

The Marble Beer House, Chorlton cum Hardy
"Its good, but its not right"
Good pub, but not up to its collyhurst incarnation which out-does it in terms of beer and atmosphere.
Well worth a visit tho.

The Rat and Ratchet, Huddersfield
Cracking pub - tried most of the guest beers and they were all excellent.
Lamdlord's missus (I think?!) caught the eye.

I found this bar on a cruising website and wasn't sure just how gay it would be until I walked in the front door, but sweet suffering ball bags let me tell ya, if I rimmed one man that night, I rimmed a hunner.
Great stuff.

Exuberently homosexual bar!
When we were there we met all sorts of militant queens who'd obviously got a taste for bumming while in sing sing, which made for a splendid night out.
25 Nov 2008 23:40
I hadn't actually realised that this was a gay bar when I first walked through the door, but the demeanour and dress of the customers quickly put me straight.
I wasn't especially into the things that went on out back, but each to their own.

Any pub with an address that begins "unit 3..." should set alarm bells ringing.
Standard printworks fare - comodified, fake drinking experience.

Trof Northern Quarter, Manchester
Wouldn't be for most people on here but I like it. Handy place to take the burd.

Sinclairs Oyster Bar, Manchester
Good pub let down by the knuckle-dragging bouncers they inexplicably employ to keep their overwhelmingly good-natured customers in check.
Won't be back.

Mr Thomas' Chop House, Manchester
Good spot for a quick couple of pints but too small for a longer session. Irish barman was excellent craic.
29 Sep 2008 18:59
Great pub - fascinating interior, friendly staff (especially the big lump of an Irish guy who looks like he'd be handy for keeping order, but without any attitude whatsoever)
Not a real ale afficionado by any means but I had a go anyway. A fine way to pass an afternoon.

Excellent pub. Superb range of beers, best atmosphere in town and a good crowd who're up for a party. Best pub in town imo.

The Beech Inn, Chorlton cum Hardy
Called into watch football and was treated to some brain donor bottling what appeared to be his mate, in front of kids FFS!
Not been back, nor likely to. Was sound until that point though!

Had a similar experience to the review below. Was in on a Sunday night after Utd had played Liverpool and came as close as I'd like to to getting beaten up by some of their fans who probably aren't so keen on the prawn sandwiches.

Excellent, proper pub. Good mix of people, good bar staff, cracking atmosphere. Best pub in Didsbury.

A pretty dire place (mis)managed when I used to drink there by a horrible wee scouser with a Napoleon complex. Has the potential to be a decent place, but that'll need a change of management.

Decent pub - good mix of people, beer is fine and on the cheap side, and as said before it's dead handy for the station and a country mile ahead of the soulless franchises you have to work with there.

The Royal Oak Hotel, Chorlton cum Hardy
A bit of a kip really, and likely to lead to depression if you hung around long enough. Has the potential to be a decent alternative to the standard Chorlton template, but is too rough to carry it off.

The Priests Retreat, Prestwich
Good place to watch Celtic. Was friendly enough when I was in, though obv not the classiest spot in town.
21 Oct 2007 21:48
A bit crap really. Handy for watching sport in town, but overpriced and the atmosphere suffers from hamming up the Oirishness of the place. These places work when they're just run as a good pub first and foremost, with Irish sport and music tagged-on. Sticking assorted tat on the walls isn't necessary.
21 Oct 2007 20:20
This place can't still be open! Like the other poster, I drive past it and shudder. I've got a kinda morbid fascination with it though and if it's still on the go (looks like it was abandoned years ago), I'll put on a crash helmet and give it a go.

Sloans, 62 Argyll Arcade
Great pub - good beer, atmosphere and food.
