Nice place. Warm and cosy. My only criticism is it is full of Oil men.

Think the previous comments are accurate. This used to be a really nice welcoming place that has been destroyed. What was once well furnished and inviting has been replaced by 90's style wood tables, conveted oil drums as chairs and wall decorations and coloured pool tables. Scruffy looking and in need of a damn good clean. Likes to show football, but wouldn't dare be contraversal enough to put the sound on in case a single punter is offended - What a scream! Only survives because the it discriminates by offering students cheaper drinks than working folk.

Nice layout and decor despite getting on a bit. Outdoor balcony is very nice in the summer if you are lucky enough to get a chair. Really should think about getting a later lisence I reckon.

Very good place. A little over rated in some quarters, but can't deny it does its job well. Prides itself on its choise of real ales.

Good bar. Had some great times here before and after Aberdeen games. Very welcoming and good juke box too.

nothing special. Wine bar in the loosest sense. There for the office staff around market street, who like to avoid the Schooner and similar places. Happy hours and free tea time snacks a bonus. Staff aren't bad either.

Bit of a metal bar. The crowd and the decor are both unusual. Kind of blackbeard meets motorhead. That said, staff and punters are laid back and friendly to everyone, whether the place is your seen or not. There's no snobbery or prejudice.

Very nice building, but a bit non-entity of a pub. Fills up with the office crowd of an evening, but not as big a draw on the night-out crowds. Food is average and the table staff need a rocket up their monkey house.

In agreement with the comments about this being a nice cosy place in the winter. Its hard to leave if it is snowing outside. Lots of twists and cubby spaces. Nice food aswell. Highly recommended.

The Old School House, Aberdeen
Great big pub, plenty of wooden decor. Its decent enough.

Don't be fooled by the lack of windows, this place has a very nice interior. Check out the ceiling. Huge selection of malts. Good service, nice atmosphere. Pretty much faultless. Ideal place for pit-stop if your crawl stretches from Belmont to Top End of Union street.

Great place. Mix of age groups and generally a good atmosphere. Live music some nights (full bands as opposed to cheezy duets + backing tape). Can take a tad too long to get served sometimes and can be a bit oil mannish.

Looks a bit 90's these days. Not bad and quite friendly, but not a place I'd rush to.
25 May 2006 13:28
Not bad. A bit rough round the edges but decent enough. Choose to show Liverpool games over Man Utd or Arsenal which scores a big plus in my book.

I'm not sure about this place. Can't say I'm a regular. Problem is, there seems to be alot of schemers in there who don't let you enjoy a drink without making sure you know that they are there.

Probably the bar I go to most in aberdeen. Much of the last comment is true. They also have a bad tendancy to advertise one match then show another, even when you call in advance, the staff are unsure which game they will show. That said, its a nice place. the square bar can make space a bit limited. I probably like it becasue most people I know go there.
24 May 2006 15:56
Bouncers aren't the best. If you're on a crawl and want a cheep n cheerful pint/nip, its a good place. There is always something to laugh at. Gets really busy though, particularly as the square bar consumes most the pub.

Its an ok place and I have no problems with it. However, I get bored stupid of middle aged (or prematurely middle aged) oilmen banging on about this place and its real ale. Not a place to meet lasses, but if you want to know the BP's latest well results, there's bound to be one guy showing off and giving away confidential info. Still, I suppose its not the pub's fault.

Looks very bleak from the outside. A stand alone building with a chip shop attached. Inside the decor is shoddy. But this is a pub that survives on footy trade as it is opposite Pittodrie. The staff are friendly and I've had some memorable and gforgetable post-match pints here. Not one for that first date.
24 May 2006 15:20
Although I'm not a student, I frequent this place. Well situated a brief walk from Pittodrie, so handy for lunch and sky sports before going the match. Go early, as they take ages to prepare food. Yellow card system prejudges against non-students!

Liked by yuppy folk. Not a bad place but looking a bit tired and samey as the other nearby bars (Nile, Frankensteins, Filling station). Does early morning breakfasts for those who haven't pulled and see it as their last chance!!

Great prices, nice building. Its a trek to the toilet, but thats not a criticism. No music policy can have a tendancy to spark trouble as everyone can hear other converations. That said, wouldn;t put me off

I was in the office block across the road during Sept 11th. Anyway, this is a great pub which I go into after returning to aberdeen by train following aberdeen fc away games. This place is more than a cut above the other nearby pubs. Prides itself on the service it offers and you are treated as a valued customer ratehr than an inconvenience.

Good place, relaxed and friendly. Ebveryone mixes together. Does rock-on Tommy still get up and do a song?
23 May 2006 17:52
Used to be alot better, but maybe its just that I've got older. Was ahead of its time when it opened but still a great place. Avoids the scouse house rubbish that many neighbouring places play.
23 May 2006 17:39
Cool and trendy. Lots of beautiful people. Might put you off if you think they are all posers (which is not entirely untrue). But I have enjoyed drinking in this place. Well thought out

Great atmosphere. Mix of students and decent locals. Friendly and interesting

The Fly in the Loaf, Liverpool
Been here once. Great place for a chat and a laugh with your mates. Don't go expecting to pull. Staff are very good and the decor makes it an interesting place to be.
23 May 2006 17:33
Scouse House if you're into that. Sterile, brash and unfriendly if you're not wearing Lacoste
23 May 2006 17:31
Quite a small battered place in keeping with the Mexican/Mediterranean feel. GEnerally pretty friendly even when people are very drunk (which tends to be the norm)
23 May 2006 17:28
Used to love this place, but not been for a while. Used to be quite laid back.
23 May 2006 17:26
Great for tourists and students who like their music indy, cheesy or retro. Don't wear your best new white slip-ons though!
23 May 2006 17:25
Could be a laugh if you're in that mood. Full off middle aged men though. Bouncers can be overly aggressive and are in cahoots with some of their mates who are punters; hence a certain bias when there is trouble.
23 May 2006 17:22
i agree with scousefire. This place is famed for being the place where Robbie Fowler got beat up.

Allerton Hall, Liverpool
Fantastic location, diabolical staff and food. Under no circumstances order food - you will be dissappointed. Bar left to be run by under-experienced young staff who haven't a clue and couldn't really care less anyway.
