After a visit to the nearby 6°N, a craft beer bar that I have requested to be added, my final pub in Aberdeen city centre was the Archibald Simpson. Alas in my 23rd pub of the weekend in Scotland, I finally located a real cider. Never was a pint of Old Rosie more appreciated. This Wetherspoon's is the better of Aberdeen's two branches and has a prominent location in a former bank. Ales were Caledonian Deuchars IPA, Greene King Abbot, Kansas Avenue Red Lonesome Duck, Banks's Maui, Windswept APA & Aurora, Stewart Jack Back & Redcastle Crusader. The Balmoral Chicken with haggis was slightly different from normal 'spoons fare, but acceptable. As can often be the case, this branch of Wetherspoon's didn't have tills that could accept the 50p off CAMRA vouchers, despite the vouchers being valid. I've had this a number of times now. A decent pub to finish my tour of Aberdeen. blue_scrumpy - 4 Jun 2018 20:58 |
Visited twice. Large JDW pub in a former bank, central location. A few decent cask ales on, and quite a few craft bottles. Also off-licence. The usual JDW menu, with unbeatable prices on beer and food. It is quite a trek to the toilets, so it’s a good idea to go before you REALLY have to go. Sigmund - 30 Aug 2017 17:13 |
Certainly the better looking of the two Wetherspoons in Aberdeen. The outside is very grand looking and the inside is no different. The ale selection is okay but I went for a pint of Stella at 3.09 in here (it was a hot day in Aberdeen). Nice interior and the staff seemed okay. Worth a visit as it is a nice building. I've been in several times, but only for breakfast. However there's a clear impression that this is a very good example of the JDW brand. Previous favourable comments about management and staff are well founded. joegreen - 7 Jun 2013 22:58 |
Extremely large corner plot Wetherspoons on the corner of Union St and King St. Named after the Architect of Aberdeen this used to be a bank The interior looks a little tired but its a big old place so maybe its not so easy to maintain. Large range of local and Scottish ales on tap, 12 pumps, of which 2 were coming soon and 3 were Abbot or London Pride. The Hill Climb was a good pint of IPA, all guest ales at £1.99 a pint. Standard Wetherspoons fair, however the service has to be mentioned. There is always a lot written about the staff that work in 'spoons pubs but the staff in this establishment were excellent. Well organised, quick, correct and best of all very polite. The staff alone will bring me back to this pub lezford - 28 Jan 2013 13:10 |
