The Chatterton Arms, Bromley

Staff are welcoming and the punters are very friendly. Quiz night on Thursdays and live entertainment on Friday & Saturday.

Beer is on the pricey side for Bromley - 3.60 for a pint of Stella. They don't serve food but have no objection to you bringing your own stuff in - there's a good local bakery just across the road selling pasties and the like - so it works out quite well.

Heated smoking area to the rear and a huge beer garden.

This is a no frills pub, but it feels very comfortable

The Babbity Bowster, Glasgow

I visited a couple of times in April 2010.

Beers are on the pricey side, but this seems to deter the 'Neds' so that is no bad thing!

Service was friendly and efficient. The landlord is a great character and has some good stories.

Well worth a visit.

The Grasshopper, Parkstone

Since my last review in 2007, I have revisited this pub and things have improved enormously. Attentive staff and tasty food.

7/10

The Moon in the Square, Bournemouth

Huge pub with great potential. Let down by poor staffing levels - service is painfully slow at the weekends.

The Westbourne, Westbourne

This is a 'so-so' pub. I can only recommend it for a few cheeky beers before heading off the the Taj over the road for a curry.

It gets very busy at the weekend and the staff cope well. However, they are not the friendliest of staff. I believe that staff can still be polite/friendly when a pub is rammed instead of curt/rude.

Tables need to be cleaned more regularly.

Not particularly welcoming.

The Avon Causeway Inn, Hurn

Last week, I visited the Avon Causeway for the first time in about 7 or 8 years, mainly because I had forgotten what it was like!

Very pleasantly surprised. The food on the 'normal' menu is of a high standard and reasonably priced. (I would recommend the Thai Fish cakes - they are suberb!).

The Sunday Carvery is good, but I think 8.95 is on the high side.

Staff are friendly and efficient - coping well with the huge family groups that turn up on a Sunday lunchtime.

The Dhow and Anchor, Dubai

This is a horrible little place. Really nothing to recommend it at all.

Save your money and go elsewhere

The Hogshead, Parkstone

This pub is closing shortly... for good! Hooray!!

3 Mar 2008 18:59

The King Charles Inn, Poole

This used to be a great little pub. Sadly, it isn't anymore! Last night (Friday 29th Feb) it was very busy - which is no bad thing - but the clientele? Jesus - it was being in a refugee camp. Full of Pooles undesirables. I will not be returning.

Awful awful awful

The Three Greyhounds, Soho

It's ok for the odd pint or two - nothing special. Wouldn't fancy eating here as is seems pretty dirty and unloved - still, some reviewers here rate the food, so maybe its ok.

The service is friendly enough - and it's never too busy

18 Dec 2007 16:25

The Alice Lisle, Rockford

I think the peacock that used to roam the garden has been retired. In the past, I've seen several kids chasing it trying it around trying to get some tail feathers and it was in a very sorry state the last time I saw it.

Great pub for the summer months. Is absolutely rammed at the weekends. Sells Ringwood ales (lovely). The food is reasonably good too.

12 Dec 2007 13:42

The Curlew, Bournemouth

The quality of the food has dropped since I last reviewed this place (May 2007)

12 Dec 2007 13:36

The Blackfriar, Blackfriars

Nothing has changed since the last time I was here (12 years ago) - and thats a good thing!

Very busy pub after office hours. Serves food until 10pm. They have this 'Nicholsons Pie' thing - never heard of it before, but boy - they are excellent!! Game pie, Mash, veg and a pint or two - unbeatable.

Service is so so.

The Cow, Parkstone

OK SaxAtTheCowPub,

I made a mistake and my earlier comments re. the Morning Advertiser were incorrect. Reading on here that you'd won pub of the year prompted my search for the Morning Advertiser because, frankly, I just couldn't believe it!! I'm not in the licensing trade and I've never heard of the Morning Advertiser.

So, good for you. Your hard work, tears, effort and money have secured a 'pub oscar'.

However, I do stand behind my other comment. I've been once and hated it. The majority of other reviewers on here don't think The Cow is that great either. Do you think you'll be winning the BeerInTheEvening pub of the year with 6.5/10?

So, I would respectfully suggest that instead of getting personal (and besides, my Dads bigger than your Dad) you keep at it and try to improve things.

79 CXR, Charing Cross Road

If its gone midenight and you want to keep drinking, then this might be an option. It's 3 to get in and the place is open till 4am. Thats all I can say to recommend it.

This is a VERY VERY gay pub and not my cup of tea at all. The smell in the toilets defies description!

28 Oct 2007 12:50

The Shakespeare, Victoria

This place is a complete shit-hole. Dirty, smelly. Full of lowlife scum. Barstaff are crap.

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!

28 Oct 2007 12:41

The Victoria, Victoria

Very close to Victoria but manages not to attract the lowlife that other pubs in the area do (See Shakespear).

Deceptively large inside. Patrons are mainly office workers. Reasonably quick service.

28 Oct 2007 12:39

The Victoria Cross, Parkstone

Since my last review, there's been two changes of management.

After the 1st change of management, the pub took a bit of a nose dive. However, the 2nd change (current management) things have improved.

The menu has been overhaulled and generally the quality has improved greatly. The pub is also much busier than it used to be.

The only fly in the ointment is the price increases. 3.10 for a pint of stella is approaching London prices.

28 Oct 2007 12:31

The Stanhope Arms, Kensington

Not a bad pub but can get very busy.

28 Oct 2007 12:27

The Cow, Parkstone

True, this pub did win Pub of the Year - but it's the Morning Advertiser Pub of the year award - which makes it pretty meaningless.

It's like having the TV Quick award for Best Neurosurgeon!

I've been here once and hated it.

4 Oct 2007 13:50

The Antelope, Poole

Its been a few years since I was in here. The bar area has been re-fitted and there's a large beer garden out the back.

Staff are very friendly and efficient. The food menu looks interesting but I haven't eaten here - yet.

Recommended.

15 Jul 2007 17:05

Hooters, Nottingham

Good venue for watching football, and, coupled with table service from some very attractive ladies, makes for a reasonable night out.

26 May 2007 14:08

The Curlew, Bournemouth

Great pub to take the family to for lunch or dinner. Service is excellent and the food is tasty and well priced. Recommended!

26 May 2007 14:03

The Walkabout Inn, Nottingham

Good place to go and watch the footie with your mates. Gets very busy. Food is cheap and there's a reason for that - its rubbish!

26 May 2007 13:59

The Nottingham Knight, Ruddington

The two for one meal deals are good value and the service is reasonably quick. Has a beer garden that runs along 2 sides of the building, so if you fancy breathing in the fumes from the traffic on the dual carriageway then this could be the place for you.

19 Apr 2007 12:32

The Three Crowns, Ruddington

Good selection of bottled beers and the Thai food is wonderful! Service is friendly and efficient.

19 Apr 2007 12:26

The Tiger Inn, Haxby

This is a great little traditional pub right in the Centre of Haxby. Good range of beers. Friendly staff.

3 Mar 2007 09:42

The Willow Tree Inn, Basford

Very brightly lit and theres a sterile/safe feeling to the place.

I was here on 26th Feb and there were only 4 other people in the bar area, and two of them were barmaids!

Non smoking pub.

I won't be going back. Boring

28 Feb 2007 16:54

The Grasshopper, Parkstone

I don't usually review pubs twice, but I had the misfortune of having to visit this dump again on Sunday 18th February.

Nothing has changed. What is advertised as 'Poole's Best Carvery' must conrtravene several trading standards and ASA regulations.

Small plates (not the big plates pictured on their ads), luke warm tasteless food, delays with a child food order, and staff that just don't care.

You know things are bad when staff don't ask 'how was your meal' They already know it's bad.

Avoid. Vote with your wallet and go elsewhere.

19 Feb 2007 10:49

The Bricklayers Arms, Poole

A pleasant pub just across the road from the Bermuda Triangle. They have a good sized beer garden round the back.

No matter how busy it gets (usually when people have popped in for a pre Kyps gig sharpner), bar staff cope well and you never have to wait that long to get served.

12 Feb 2007 13:50

The Sloop, Parkstone

Despite being next to a main road and very near to the college, this pub is never very busy.

The standard of service is variable. The landlord is friendly enough, but the whole thing is let down by some of the female barstaff employed there.

I think these girls are the ones who work in department stores during the day, you know the ones who stand behind a till chattering to themselves leaving you waiting to be served?

I was last in the pub on Friday 02 Feb 2007, and I am in no rush to go back.

5 Feb 2007 12:33

The Rose of England, Nottingham

Awful. Dirty. Smelly. Looks interesting from the outside. Possibly Nottingham's most decorative toilet.

11 Jan 2007 09:24

The Peacock, Nottingham

This is a gem of a pub in an area of Nottingham where most of the pubs are pretty scummy!

Bar Staff are friendly and efficient. The food menu looks interesting, but I have never been in there whilst they are serving, so I can't comment on the quality of the food.

Music is provided via a random selection of tracks from a 300 CD library and it's a damn fine selection.

Cosy & traditional.

11 Jan 2007 09:22

The Bermuda Triangle, Parkstone

Great pub and bar staff. Walls and ceilings are plastered with all kinds of nautical crap, but don't let that put you off - it isn't really a theme pub.

Good mixed clientelle (18 ->80). Can get very busy.

8 Jan 2007 08:04

Le Bateau Bistro, Parkstone

Poncey and overrated. The Bar staff in here seem to forget the reason they have been employed i.e. to provide a decent service to customers.

Great premises, just a shame it is let down by crap staff.

8 Jan 2007 08:00

The Victoria Cross, Parkstone

This pub has improved beyond belief, mainly due to the new landlord (Alex) and his wife. Reasonably priced food (large portions) and all the scum that used to go here have been barred. Plenty of seating and kids are allowed in with parent before 6pm as long as you are eating there (my kids love the VC house burgers). They also do curry nights, steak nights and some very good 'two meals for the price of one' deals.

Very popular quiz on Thursday evenings and live but somewhat 'cheesy' entertainment on Fridays/Saturdays.

Friendly bar staff.

This is a basic no frills pub, but it is safe (recent award proves this) and welcomming.

1 Nov 2006 10:48

The Hogshead, Parkstone

This place used to be a department store (Co-Op if I remember rightly) before being converted into a Hogshead. The Hogshead closed and after some refurbishment (circa 2003/2004) it reopened as 'The Parkstone'.

I used to go to this pub regularly, but over the last few years, it has gone down hill and I've stopped going there. All the regular troublemakers who used to go to the VC and have now been barred from there, now go to the Parkstone.

In the afternoon it's full of chavey unmarried 16 year old mothers and and their snotty offspring along with a scattering of pensioners. In the evening, it's full of people you wouldn't piss on if they were on fire. Avoid his pub.
