Old Crown Inn, Stourport On Severn
Surely as its a Wetherspoons everyone knows what to expect? Decent selection of beers and well kept. The slow service is usually due to punters ordering food and not being able to decide on salad or peas!!!! Either that or having a coffee , which takes ages to pour and put sprinkles on!
Much better than the Kidderminster Witherspoons (thats not hard though) , and full of brummie caravaners in the summer.

Good news...ANOTHER new landlord( lady?) and the good choice of well-kept beer pegged at �2 a pint!....now need to ditch the annoying disco on a saturday and allow the old regulars to filter back ( March 2010)

The King and Castle, Kidderminster
Lovely bathams (totally agree) and the Wyre Piddle bitter is great too. A good choice of guests beers and regularly changed too. Quiet in the week, although gets busy if theres a evening match at the local Kidderminster Harriers!

Deffo the best Witherspoons in the area, although as expected on a weekend it can take a while to be served. Good choice of guest beers, food is normal fare but good for the price.
Valentines Day offer 2010 was �14-99 for two steak meals and a bottle of Harveys wine....bargain!!

Nice beer, but is so popular these days can get very congested inside on the weekends! Try the beer festival in the spring, when its warm enough to use the beer garden.

very nicely decorated and kept, a nice selection of beers too. Theres a jazz/blues night upstairs ( I think) on selected nights....a nice change to the low cost Witherspoons up the road!

Oh dear oh dear.....would it be too much to ask the new landlord to get in a choice of beers? (i.e. other than one....usually Hobgoblin)
The crowded studenty nights of 12 months ago are well and truly over as all the regulars have obviously found other haunts......not sure of the music nights as I can't afford to drink there at �2-85 a pint !

AGAIN under new management ( Feb 2010) who really seem to be clueless; A deafening R&B disco in the back room on a Saturday precludes anyone sitting in there, and no-one is dancing anyway !! Will they not learn the music seekers stay down the other end of the town on a weekend?
Add the surly bar staff and when the jukebox is on its constantly turned down when the music isnt deemed 'appropriate'.
Oh, there is normally just TWO guest beers on....!!

Now ( Oct 2009) back open with new management, somehow hasn't recaptured the varied clientele and atmosphere. Quiet on Friday, although the mooted rock disco might liven things up.

A typical village pub in a lovely rural setting -and is there a bigger beer garden in Worcestershire?
Great -if pricey- guest beers on offer, and the barmaid on a thursday lunchtime is gorgous!!

The Mare and Colt, Summerfield
Very average pub fare food-wise, the beer is typically over priced but service was not bad.
Its hard to see what customer group this type of out-of-town pub/resturant is now trying to attract; I suspect they don't know either.
It was a much better venue when the kids playground was in use, they had weekend barbeques and bonfire night parties, and quiz nights were put on.

The Golden Lion, Kidderminster
One of the last of the great little back street pubs where in days gone by you could drink mild beer without taking out a mortgage, the most exotic food on offer was crisps and nuts, and you watch the wizened regulars in the corner argue over the crib board!
These days the beer is still fine, and despite the cramped bar is enjoyable enough for a few pints.
Enjoy while you can, because thanks to short-sighted breweries, tescos off licences and overbearing bouncers people would rather stop at home and these great places will soon be gone!!

Loom and Shuttle, Kidderminster
After yet another change of manager and the criticisms are still the same; Ok for a quick lunch time bite but its decidedly average fare, and although the bitter is banks, its not kept that well and the service is just too slow when youve only got half and hour or so.
The place is simply dead at night, due to its location out of town.

The Harriers Arms, Kidderminster
very busy on a match day, yet somehow the fast and efficient bar staff manage to serve you through a heaving mass of football fans without a wait of more than 5 minutes!! ( maybe they ought to give the 'baby' bar staff in Witherspoons some training??)
Great guest beers, and a decent place to watch football on the TV during the week.
Music on a Saturday night.

Awesome jukebox ( where else can you play the epic 'Stargazer' by Rainbow on heavy rotation?)
Ignore the frankly grotty decor and the smell in the gents and its not a bad boozer. usually variety of tasteless lagers but the beer is good and plenty of guests on tap, although it is quite pricey. Two pool tables, a large beer garden, and plenty of TVs for the footie.
There was talk of live bands but nothings happened in 2008 at least.

A perfect pub to go to on a weekend if you're depressed or lacking in self-esteem; one look around the clientele in here and you'll soon start feeling superior to everyone!! Kareoke is the name of the game here (almost every night of the week), and if you can avoid the endless tuneless renditions of 'I will survive' for longer than it takes to neck a pint your a better man than me.
Serves Banks bitter and mild, but don't expect a full pint measure.

Ye Olde Seven Stars, Kidderminster
Kiddrminster's oldest pub, typical olde worlde, clean maintained and ideally placed - and yet poorly patronised; I just don't get it. Maybe its the rather polite, middle-class atmosphere, as when the pub was a grubby, cheap-and-cheerful watering hole for the Goths and Rockers a few years ago, it was heaving!!
The beer is (again) typical for the town centre and highly priced (even if they do have Enville on tap!)

The hordes of teenagers of yesteryear have all gone...thankfully. But the place is now essentially a restaurant more than a pub, with the usual pub-grub fare on offer. Nothing special, but nothing too horrible either- except the drink prices. Busy at lunchtimes.
Nice to sit outside in summer next to the canal and watch the narrow boats go by.

I've frequented quite a few Witherspoons over the years, and yet the Penny Black is without doubt the worst! It had more atmosphere when it was a draper's shop!!
They advertise their own 'beer festivals', yet I've found during the festival they seem limited to just two or three guest beers in addition to the usual fare.
Low prices are their obvious forte, and at almost 50% cheaper than all others in the town you can't ignore the place.
Like all other town centre pubs in Kiddy on a weekend they employ two 'doormen', yet recently seemed to have bucked the trend and ditched all the security; I don't think anyone has noticed!

Best to go Friday nights (instead of Saturdays) when it's not too crowded, and the 2 'doormen' don't grandstand by making punters queue for ages outside when there's obviously loads of room inside.
Frequent the pub a few weekends in a row and you'll soon realise the disco is always the same and thus very predictable; the DJ probably only has the one minidisc!! If the weathers okay you can easily avoid the music out in the garden with the smokers.
The beer is relatively expensive, with no variation in choice and often poorly kept (far too cold). Food however during the day is very good.

A favourite for college students in term-time, so plenty of pretty young ladies around!! Its one of the few live music venues in the town, although the bands vary widely in quality. Although the choice of guest beers usually extends to at least 3, the quality (like the music) is often very variable, from good to totally undrinkable. The prices are very high too, presumably to pay for the bands.
