Hidden gem of Croydon. lovely little pub. atmosphere as soon as you walk in was amazing. we visited on a friday night with live music playing. great atmosphere. the staff were quick to serve us and very friendly. the land lady Laura was lovely very chatty. sofas were far too comfortable as we found we didnt want to leave!!! pub was very clean. the two large bars were perfect for being served promptly. i had never realised the pub had a beer garden, what a suprise!! it was perfect. clean, tidy and the music was also being played through outdoor speakers. shame they dont do food as it would be perfect for a sunday afternoon pit stop after the shops. nevermind alcohol it is !!!

pub is under new management whom have some really good ideas about changing the pub and boosting sales. they talked alot about making the pub into a music venue which would be pretty awesome as the pubs character definitely sways that way. the live music they currently have on is original, daring and varied. they have several regular sets during the weekend with two DJs who play alternating weekends. the crowd of regulars are pretty much the same old guys. new bar staff who are very friendly and polite. new beers on draught. they even stock Kozel on tap. large variety of wines. the only down side to this great pub is the lack of food, but unfortantley due to its neighbours along the restaurant quarter its never gonna be a place for food. all in all still my favourite pub in Croydon.

i havent visited this place in donkeys years and have to say from what i have heard and read i realy was suprised. i believe the edge is now under new managment and has a new food menu to boot. i tried the food on my lvisit to the pub last week and was delighted with how fresh it was, the portion size was good and the price reasonable. the beer tasted the best it has in years and the new bar staff seemed genuinley happy to be serving the public. although the pub seemed quite im pretty sure with the ideas the managment have for the pub, trade will indeed pick up. the jukebox was playing a variety of music and the patio garden was clean. i believe that the edge may be back on track after many years, and would definitley recomend a trip down there. the only downfall to this hidden beauty is the lack of parking, but what can you expect given its location.

A new update with a new management in place - the old management used to be a couple which while never had any problems with always looked to me like they had no enthusiasm to be running the pub, and looked like they'd prefer to be elsewhere
Looks like the walls have had a lick of paint. And an ale pump has appeared. Only had an afternoon visit but I like the potential of this pub - on a busy cross junction wheather your inside or in the garden its a good feeling to have a pint and watch the world go by. With them reportedly making an effort inthe evenings it is a place that deserves to win.

This pub is now under new management. It now has very friendly and lively bar staff and a decent selection of drinks. Currently the only hot food available is sausages in baps, but if this is popular other options are likely to become available. The back garden area is spacious. There is a Juke Box which costs 50p for 1 track, 1 for 3 tracks or 2 for 11 tracks. Additionally there are two electronic gaming machines. Toilets are clean and well maintained. The new management are looking to bring in regular events for Friday nights and Weekends (tonight they have Karaoke witha free shot for your first performance). Not the cheapest place in the area (around about 3.20 a pint), but the atmousphere is chilled and relaxed. There is Sky TV.

I have to agree with the reviewer below. This pub seems to be getting less and less enjoyable on each subsequent visit
Also would help if the guy who runs it actually looked a bit more like he enjoyed doing so... doesnt exactly feel welcoming
On a good visit in here it feels like a small house party is occuring but doesnt have that good feel alot these days

A shadow of its former self, I'm afraid. I paid a long-overdue return visit on Thursday evening, and found a pub containing a small number of unfriendly lager drinkers wearing the latest in tracksuit designer wear. The whole experience was just miserable. I'll try again in 10 years' time.

Yawny.

Decent crowd still in here who respect The Clash but have yet to embrace KC & The Sunshine Band.

Nice Guinness, friendly staff and a good if pricey jukebox.

Better than most alternatives locally. Alphonso likes it in here as well. I agree with Alphonso.

I had the misfortune to eat in this pub last week. It was a Friday lunchtime and despite the fact that there were only about half a dozen other customers, it took half an hour for the "food" to arrive. It was only a cheeseburger for Gawd's sake.

Anyway, my main complaint - the food was absolutely atrocious, easily the worst pub meal I have had anywhere, ever. The burger was ridiculously overcooked - burned to a crisp and you could have used it to repair a punctured tractor tyre. The tomato in the bun was sopping wet and the bun itself was more like some sort of building material than food - it was rock hard. The serviette would have tasted better.

I should have sent it back, but I didn't have another half hour. I was bloody angry though.

Hard to think of a better pub in Croydon. You can think of ones with a more imaginative range at the bar but the Edge gets it right in friendly service, a good atmosphere and an absorbing jukebox.

A pub that deserves to do well. A mate of mine called Alphonso thinks they should add "Runaway Train" to the jukebox but he wants the moon on a stick.

The Edge has had its up and downs over the years but now back to its best. Good beers, nice bar staff, good jukebox but most importantly nice atmosphere and you do not get many drunken idiots who maybe more suited to drinking in other bars. Great comfy seats and never find it to busy so usually find a seat.

I popped in here recently, and was glad to see this pub is back on track. Good Friday will mark the 20th anniversary of my first visit; in 1987 it was the Blacksmiths Arms, a name that can still provoke misty-eyed nostalgia for many true Croydonians (and gate-crashers like me). The pub went through a dodgy phase in the late 90s, but thankfully that was short-lived.

Well worth the good reviews this place has generated..

Ive been in here for quiet afternoon sessions and eve packed ones. Both have been charming and enjoyable.

The jukebox is digital and offers what seems fantastic choices. The cold beer goes down a treat.

On a re-visit, this pub is worth commending because of the excellent jukebox in there. And decent Guinness.

Certainly one of the better pubs in the local area.

The best pub in Croydon and worth a walk from the centre of croydon.

A good jukebox which I do welcome in a good bar.

The staff are friendly and a good choice of beers are avilable.

Comy sofas which are most welcome and helps make a night out very relaxing.

Worth a visit.

Not a bad little hostelry to drop by in. Standard cast-list of veverages at the bar (the ubiquitous usual suspects) but worth a visit all the same.

One of the better run pubs in cheery Croydon.

Good little pub. Isn't overwhelmingly popular, thus avoids getting too packed out (other than on a Saturday). Good 80's/90's Indie/Rock music, friendly clientele - never a Chav to be seen in this place. Sofa's are a nice touch. Better than the Skylark, although more pricey.

I will be taking over this pub at the end of june and i promise to get it back to what it use to be. I'm a great believer in being hands on and wont be taking a back seat. I promise that all my staff will be friendly and helpful.

I couldn't agree with Mohogey more. The Edge WAS genuinely the best pub/bar in croydon. What made it so great were the people who all (especially the lovely manager and friendly staff) contributed to the laid back, happy atmosphere. I have been drinking there for around two years and had never had a bad night there - the regulars were great, there was never any "trouble" and the music was spot on. On top of this, the Edge had the best in-house parties I've ever been to. In the last few weeks, the Edge has suffered a change of management which I suspect will ultimately cause it's complete demise. God knows, there's already been a big enough deterioration! Gone are the old, chilled out set of staff, who have been replaced by people who admittedly go through the motions but frankly don't seem to care about the place enough to really learn the ropes or recreate the old atmosphere. The music is unrecognisable, the friendly faces are gone (replaced by a hostile set of drinkers) and it now seems to have subscribed one-hundred-perecent to cashing in on the "just another croydon pub" theme. While it's previous innovative and forward thinking manager was the most hands-on I have ever witnessed, the new management appears to very much take the back seat, with little interaction or communication, lending the pub the clinical detachment of a weatherspoons. I will never drink there again, and if you want a good night out, neither will you!

This used to be the best pub in Croydon. USED to be. The thing about it was the Manager. He had personality, and he employed pleasant staff with personality and good taste in music. The music was chosen by random members of the team and was always top notch. The beer was good. Needless to say this pub attracted the right sort of crowd, resulting in a chilled out atmosphere, friendly people laughing all the time and enjoying the fine food and drink and games. Then, seemingly overnight, a new manager appeared. He is very rude. All the staff left. The new staff, who don't seem to know what they are doing, or communicate with the public, do their best, but you get the feeling they don't enjoy their jobs. The music is now just awful. All the games have gone. And all of the regular crowd have gone. Last time I was there, the only people in there were the unpleaseant people who were barred under the old management. It's amazing how such a once great pub has become so unwelcoming, and even threatening. And the beer doesn't taste right either. I suspect the pipes aren't being cleaned to often. A real shame.

Generally nice atmosphere and good music but a bit pricey - for us students the Skylark just down the road is a more economical alternative!

We went one sunday especially for the karaoke which was run by a guy called jack or something we were there all night and did not even get one song when we complained we were told "Tough Luck"

therefore will not be going back

I used to frequent this pub with my ex girlfriend and we loved the chilled out vibe and friendly barstaff, so much different to some of the other pubs you find in Croydon, top notch!
