The Edge, Croydon

I couldn't agree with Mohogey more. The Edge WAS genuinely the best pub/bar in croydon. What made it so great were the people who all (especially the lovely manager and friendly staff) contributed to the laid back, happy atmosphere. I have been drinking there for around two years and had never had a bad night there - the regulars were great, there was never any "trouble" and the music was spot on. On top of this, the Edge had the best in-house parties I've ever been to. In the last few weeks, the Edge has suffered a change of management which I suspect will ultimately cause it's complete demise. God knows, there's already been a big enough deterioration! Gone are the old, chilled out set of staff, who have been replaced by people who admittedly go through the motions but frankly don't seem to care about the place enough to really learn the ropes or recreate the old atmosphere. The music is unrecognisable, the friendly faces are gone (replaced by a hostile set of drinkers) and it now seems to have subscribed one-hundred-perecent to cashing in on the "just another croydon pub" theme. While it's previous innovative and forward thinking manager was the most hands-on I have ever witnessed, the new management appears to very much take the back seat, with little interaction or communication, lending the pub the clinical detachment of a weatherspoons. I will never drink there again, and if you want a good night out, neither will you!
