Greeted with a notice saying we are full for dinner when entering pub at 4:30pm.
There were only a handful of people in both bars but they'd spread themselves across the tables which didn't say 'reserved'.
The very unwelcoming landlord told us we could sit in another room used for restaurant which soulless and like the landlord, miserable.
Much better pubs in Shoreham so give this a miss.

Comment: The Harveys was wonderful as was the Doombar and the garden very nice with great views. The locals were really welcoming and the staff were the same. What a shame this gem is so far from home.

What a fantastic pub, surrounded by beautiful Kent countryside. We had a pint of Doom Bar & a pint of Harveys Best (both kept very well). Did not eat food, but what was coming out of the kitchen looked lovely.

New Management team all very friendly.
Noticed that the pub is now open all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
My only problem (and it's the same in all Shoreham pubs) is the limited choice of Ales and Ciders.
Not much change on the decor front, The small snug bar is a bit cleaner and brighter.

I was fortunate enough to visit the Crown this weekend and find that it was the first full day under new management. Upon walking in you could feel that it had been given some TLC with a small but tasteful redecoration and had a real family atmosphere. I had a wonderful pint of Harvey's in the public bar which had a real "Lad's feel" with dartboard and a strong alliance to the great Seve Ballesteros with a wonderful picture of him above the bar. After walking 3 miles with my wife we decided that the smell of the Sunday roast was too good to resist so we had to indulge and thank god we did. There are too many chain pubs these days where the emphasis is to churn out an average plate of food, but here at The Crown you could tell that real effort had been put into it. Home made Yorkshire puddings, tender Pork and wonderfully fluffy roast potatoes, it was one of the nicest meals I ever endured in a pub. I would not hesitate to come back to this pub again, and I'm already looking forward to this Sunday.

Stopped off at end of walk and was pleased to find pub open late in afternoon during week, and the Harveys was excellent. Went back in evening on Friday for fish night (to avoid eternal damnation - according to landlord !) and can thoroughly recommend the food.

Visit this pub on a fairly regular basis now.Always made welcome by both the staff and regulars. The beer is always in excellent condition which for me is top requirement but also the food is reasonably priced and very good. Well worh a visit.

I've visited this pub a couple of times with my wife whilst on one of our regular-ish wanders around Shoreham, and I've found it to be curiously alluring. I say curiously, because both times we've been it's been extremely quiet inside with only a handful of punters chatting quietly amongst themselves (probably due to the mid-week evening lull), which can be quite disconcerting to the casual out-of-towner, but for some reason I've always felt at ease and comfy here.
Both visits have bestowed me with excellent ale, from memory I think I had Westerham's William Wilberforce Freedom Ale on the first visit and a Westerham's SPA on my second, both spot on pints. The bar is inexpensive and the staff friendly. I haven't yet eaten here but when I do I shall comment further. Up to this point though, good stuff.

Excellent, cosy, friendly pub, with a huge beautiful real fire. Best pub in Shoreham by a distance.
Well summed up by this comment by Bromley5:
"Lovely pub, always has a nice atmosphere with a good mix of regulars and walkers."
The old boy behind the bar with the traditional shirt and tie, is an absolute gent and very friendly.
Top marks from me.

Lovely pub, always has a nice atmosphere with a good mix of regulars and walkers. Theres three real ales on at all times, three bars, and two open fires. Quirky landlord who looks after his customers, good food at keen prices, no fuss. The only proper country pub in the village that is consistently good. This is where you want to finish your walk, I really recommend!

What a great unspoilt pub. The Crown does not pretend to be something its not, its a basic cosy country pub seperated into three bars with open fires and an old fashioned till. The beer range is good with GK IPA with regular guests, one always from the local Westerham Brewey. Last week when I visited it was Adnams Broadside and Westerham God's Wollop. Food is simple but hot and tasty at a resonable price, generous portions, cooked to order. Landlord is a right character usually manning the bar with great efficiency with a huge mug of tea in hand, your always made to feel valued, seems to be the only pub in Shoreham where you see the management! One small piece of advice the front bar is a bit bleak, best keep to the rear two bars as these give a much better feel of the place.

The Crown manages to maintain a traditional feel. Nothing fancy...no music or games machines and one of the best Sunday lunches you can get anywhere! Friendly service. A good mix of friendly locals and other regulars who've been visiting for years. Could improve selection of beers though......

OK for a one off visit, garden is nice in the summer. Food quite basic and same as all the other pubs in village. It is very quiet in here, bit like a library. Very clicky as well, landlord is quite regimental.

I eat and drink there often. Excellent meals. Polite welcoming service and good beer, only pity is there is not a bit more choice of ales. Lots of character. The best I have found of Shoreham's four pubs.

Hardly a review of The Crown, moredave. if you gave some indication of the reasons for your low rating it would be of more value to other readers, I don't get to Shoreham a lot, but next time I'm there I'll make a point of visiting The Crown so that i can post a review which actually says something about the pub.

Recently carried out a nice long walk around Shoreham and stopped off in each of its four pubs how they are all still open is beyond me. I have mixed feelings about these pubs by far the worst was The Brewers, Then The Crown followed closely by the Kings Arms and By far the best was Ye Olde George Inne. As this was the nicest pub we decided to have our lunch here. Very pleasant atmosphere very welcoming and good food I had the Steak and ale pie and my wife had fishcakes and salad. The ales were very good Harveys was in very good condition I would whole heartedly recommend the George for lunch or dinner.
