Greeted with a notice saying we are full for dinner when entering pub at 4:30pm. There were only a handful of people in both bars but they'd spread themselves across the tables which didn't say 'reserved'. The very unwelcoming landlord told us we could sit in another room used for restaurant which soulless and like the landlord, miserable. Much better pubs in Shoreham so give this a miss. The locals were really welcoming and the staff were the same. What a shame this gem is so far from home. Thirstyworker - 18 Jun 2012 18:52 |
What a fantastic pub, surrounded by beautiful Kent countryside. We had a pint of Doom Bar & a pint of Harveys Best (both kept very well). Did not eat food, but what was coming out of the kitchen looked lovely. caterhambloke - 15 Jun 2012 16:33 |
New Management team all very friendly. Noticed that the pub is now open all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday. My only problem (and it's the same in all Shoreham pubs) is the limited choice of Ales and Ciders. Not much change on the decor front, The small snug bar is a bit cleaner and brighter. I was fortunate enough to visit the Crown this weekend and find that it was the first full day under new management. Upon walking in you could feel that it had been given some TLC with a small but tasteful redecoration and had a real family atmosphere. I had a wonderful pint of Harvey's in the public bar which had a real "Lad's feel" with dartboard and a strong alliance to the great Seve Ballesteros with a wonderful picture of him above the bar. After walking 3 miles with my wife we decided that the smell of the Sunday roast was too good to resist so we had to indulge and thank god we did. There are too many chain pubs these days where the emphasis is to churn out an average plate of food, but here at The Crown you could tell that real effort had been put into it. Home made Yorkshire puddings, tender Pork and wonderfully fluffy roast potatoes, it was one of the nicest meals I ever endured in a pub. I would not hesitate to come back to this pub again, and I'm already looking forward to this Sunday. beerdrinker12345 - 25 Jul 2011 14:59 |
