Pretty much the same as a year ago, polite helpful staff; pub is popular with all ages. Beers I partook of were Sambrooks Brewery 'Junction' [dark tasty pint], Titanic 'Plum Porter' [very tasty], Woods 'Shropshire Lad' nice ale], & Goff's Brewery 'White Knight [pleasant pint].

Modern building, smoking terrace at the rear. Staff were friendly, helpful & efficient. Beers I partook of were Wickwar ''Sundowner'' [nice refreshing ale] & Summerskills ''Guzzale [4.6% abv and an excellent beer].

A modern looking Lloyds Number One bar not far from the main shopping area. There are two very large bars. Although be careful - it appears they only serve beers from one room. They had a better range of beers than the nearby Shrewsbury Hotel - Greene King Abbot & Old Speckled Hen, Jennings Sneck Lifter, Salopian Shropshire Gold, Wood Shropshire Lad, RCH East Street and Purity Ubu. There was also one cider - Westons Cider Twist Ginger. It was reasonably busy on our early Saturday lunchtime visit and is worth a punt.

Very well lite, clean pub. Staff are friendly and the food is good. Ales are fantastic, always taste good and they have a great selection. Always recommend this place to my friends. One of the most popular places in the town at night too as I can see when I go out for a few cheeky ones.

Well for a paying customer, the staff seem to have ALOT of attitude. I for one frequently use Lloyds for free internet access, however even then the connection is dire. The food is average, when I order a plate of chips I except golden HOT potatoes, not warmed up in the microwave, and served pathetically on a plate. The paninis are nearly ALWAYS cold. never hot right through, the sofas are extremely dirty, full of hair, and god knows what, I never sit on them, even the tables are sticky and unclean. Overall an unpleasant experience, I only come here for internet, coffee is cheap and half decent, but the staff need serious training on customer service skills, for me, it feels like I SHOULDNT BE HERE, that I AM A NUISANCE customer, however I keep myself to myself and expect exceptional service when im PAYING THEIR SALARY. through my custom.
Not impressed!

One of the better Wetherspoons. Nice modern interior which is brighter than their normal decor. Deservedly in the GBG.

not impressed with this pub at all and wetherspoons need to sort it out. No end of under age drinkers attend this pub which is not good, i have been in numerous times in the week and weekend and they are always there.
The real ale is not up to scratch, the glasses for a start were dirty but i tried every single ale on pumpo and theyball tasted really tangy and sour. the shropshire gold was awful. i asked a manger why this was and he actually said that the pumps are not cleaned regualry enough! can you believe that...
the food here is typical of a wetherspoons, basically its all microwaved, and to be fair its mediocure at best.
Staff are to be honest rude and miserable, they look over worked and tired and always complain about having to clean the pub late into the early hours. It seems to me wetherspoons are not manging this pub very well which is a shame becaus eit could do so much better.
I'm sorry to say that wetherspoons need to do something asap with this pub are it will continue on the down hill slope very quickly.

Nice fresh, clean interior with 6 cask ales available (all on) - Wood's Shropshire Lad and Salopian Shropshire Gold @ 2.05 a pint were okay

Easily one of the best Wetherspoons I've been to. Good choice of real ales, local and national (and international) varieties. Better place than the Shrewsbury Hotel just round the corner.

SILENTBUTDEADLY HAS TURNED TO THE DARK SIDE! Visited Montgomery's Tower this afternoon but it was SO HOT today I had 3 pints of FOSTER'S plus a steak & chips meal. Very nice experience indeed and I'll keep coming back to this wonderful place. Don't know when I'll be back on the real ale - could be tomorrow, a few weeks, months or possibly even - NEVER!

freddie09 - 22 Jan 2010 20:18
ha ha ha thought that would wind you lot up. i have proof on my camera, come on im a learning student at university i have a right to tell the public how bad this pub really is.

ROBCamra - 15 Jan 2010 17:24
not an ex-employee actually i am a member of camera from monkmoor and to be fair the pub started off well but really has gone down hill. like i said maybe the staff need to open their eyes or at least the manager does.
brapper - 15 Jan 2010 16:00
I cannot understand Brapper's comments regarding Montgomery's Tower- maybe a disgruntled ex-employee? I visited again on Wednesday and, despite only just reopening that day after the recent explosion in Shrewsbury, found the real ales to be of excellent quality and was spoilt for choice when confronted by such an excellent range of different beers from around the country. The Salopian Shropshire Gold was possibly the best I have ever tasted!

I really enjoy visiting this pub, staff and managers very helpful and friendly, beer tip top aswell.

This place now seems to have taken over from Shrewsbury Hotel as the main JDW pub in this neck of the woods. Visited here yesterday afternoon and found it quite pleasant (though what it's like after 8pm I don't know). thre were 7 handpumps on the bar I went to (two bars in here) with 5 guest ales (permanent ales seem to be Pedigree and Abbot's Ale). Had 1 pint of Exe Valley XXV, then a pint of Tournament Bitter and finally a pint of BOB Bitter. All were very good indeed. Overall a good place to come to if you enjoy sampling various real ales and the food didn't look too bad either. I'll definitely call in again.

Popped in yesterday as they have their beer festival on at the moment. Five or six guest ales were on, including a very palatable York Breweries "Coppergate". Much better, and cleaner, than its sister hotel (The Shewsbury Hotel) just around the corner.

GBG 2010 and well deserved. Had a top pint of Jaipur here last week. Shropshire Gold normally available aswell as several guests. Defenitely worth a visit.

This pub has two bars - check both as the beer range can be slightly different! Usually one or two Salopian ales are on, as well as other fairly local real ales and the usual Wetherspoons choice. A good pub overall, better than the Shrewsbury Hotel round the corner, and with The Armoury just through the back door!
dpaajones - 17 Oct 2009 11:26
Not to bad a place , lots of comfy seating and 6 real ales , had a pint of Independence Ale not bad just took 10 mins to get served , a couple of druggies in the toilets somewhat let the place down .
trenchlad - 4 Jul 2009 23:00
Popped in again over the weekend and was pleased to find that there were 7 guest ales available in addition to the usual Abbot, Ruddles and Pedigree. Great range of local ales as well as a few from farther afield.
Dag_Grevin - 15 Jun 2009 09:23
great pub great staff good food nice surroundings by the river and close to car park well worth a visit
thevanman - 8 Apr 2009 15:58
Had an excellent pint here in very nice surroundings served by friendly staff. One of the better Lloyds no.1 bars.
ramsay - 4 Apr 2009 12:56
(Previously Bar Med... Shrewsbury's second Wetherspoons, located only 100 yards or so from the other one!)
dpaajones - 2 Apr 2009 12:38
Now Montgomery's Tower. 7 real ales on when I visited yesterday, including two locals. Two bars in use. Seating outside to the rear (and The Armoury is just the next building behind Montgomery's). Not a bad place at all, though probably is a different place on Friday/Saturday nights than when I went!!

(Beer was fine when I was there.)
dpaajones - 2 Apr 2009 12:21
Very smart Lloyds No 1 bar, not to be confused with the desperate, chav ridden pub called Lloyds across the road. Lots of comfy seating and alcoves. Has two bars, with several handpumps on each, although both bars had the same beers. I tried a pint of Shropshire Lad which was a little hazy, by the end of the pint (when it was too late to take it back) the slightly off taste was getting worse so I left some of it (bit of a first there). Nice enough pub, but the beer quality was definitely questionable. I'll give it another chance in a week or two.
