One-off visit last weekend. A great village pub overlooking the cricket ground. Spoke with the landlord who took over only a week or so ago and he was very friendly and optimistic.
4 or 5 real ales including Flying Horse/Pegasus, which is a delicious ruby bitter, apparently brewed for them by Mad Cat Brewery of Faversham. Lovely stuff.
Wish this was my local.

A great little pub, I have called in on mostly late afternoons on about 4 or 5 times a year over the last few years. I am impressed that the landlady always remembers me and is welcoming. This is a smartly presented pub, clean and well cared for.

The ale is well kept, we have tried a selection over our visits and always been very happy. A lovely big garden at the back. If you want a nice pub to take a lady friend this would be my choice.

Really well run community driven pub and a great place to watch the village cricket. Recommended.

Great little pub, friendly staff, really friendly locals who help provide the welcoming atmosphere. The regualr quiz nights are really good fun with a meal thrown in as part of the joining fee, (the music quizes are esp. good fun!) and the food is excellent. Regular local events and a perfect setting! Love it...well done to Stuart and Michaela (who run the place) and all their hard work in getting the place back on it's feet!

We love the Flying Horse. The owners (and other staff) are very friendly and have made a huge effort over the past year, which really shows.

The location is peaceful, and perfect for watching a spot of village cricket on a Sunday (how very English!), the garden is huge (great for energetic kids), and the function room, which we've had a peek of, looks gorgeous.

we had our wedding reception here and everything about our day was perfect. It was stress free planning for me as they were so helpfull and supplied us with everything i needed to make our day.
the marquee was great, food was lovely and there was plenty of it so no one went hungry, staff were friendly and was always there to help if we needed anything. every thing was clean and looked great.
All of my guests had a great day and i have had no complaints from anyone.
will definatly recomend this pub as i have no faults on my wedding day and they made it perfect for us... a Big thank you too all of you

I can only endorse the more recent comment below - a really lovely pub in every way. I do remember coming here several years ago and not being greatly impressed by either the welcome or the beer. Both have obviously been improved tremendously.
London Pride, Greene King IPA and St Austell Tribute on tap (with space for a fourth ale that was obviously off on this visit) .The Tribute was very good indeed. Very welcoming couple running the bar and efficient waiting staff for the food - which was also excellent and very good value for money.
If you are a cricket fan though, you will be hard pushed to find a better located pub anywhere in England. The building sits very nicely at Fine Leg of a smallish village green cricket pitch and we watched a few overs of my own village team taking on the local one (At the risk of sounding pedantic, Boughton & Eastwell not Boughton Aluph as below :-)).
I understand from the locals that 250 is a cpmpetitive score given the size of the ground so my team's 121 was never going to be enough. Time for another beer !

Popped in there in passing the other day and was quite impressed - only a few guest ales but very tasty - and the folk in there were friendly indeed. It's a very pretty pub too, pleasantly located, and I'm determined to go back.

Very nice country pub. Food is very good. Excellent out of the way place for a business meeting, plenty of car parking. Recommended.

Excellent village pub. Good food and beer. Good selection of proper brown beer, four types of yellow stuff as well as Guinness and draught cider. Menu is very good and the meals we had were excellent, very tasty and well presented.

We liked the friendly atmosphere. They have a log fire and a nice long bar to sit at. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Plenty of room to sit outside looking onto the cricket green. It's worth finding out when the local team (Boughton Aluph) is playing at home - there was a fixture list in the pub. Alternatively there's a big back garden, which is really good for families with kids. One of the bars has two glass topped wells set in the brick floor, which are centuries old. In fact the whole building is lovely and old, just how you picture a country pub.

They seem to organise quite a few events. Last time we went they had signs for an Easter egg hunt for kids and a music quiz.

All in all, a top pub in my opinion. I've given it 10 because that's what it deserves.

I absolutely agree with everything Sir Jack says. This is our very valued local that we had to sadly watch, be run into the ground in the last couple of years. A superb pub was left to go to ruin until Michaela and Stuart took over about a year ago...and they are doing a fab job! They have turned the food around...at one point, you couldn't even eat a sandwich there with any confidence, now, Jonathan, a storming little chef, produces plate after plate of excellent food. The new landlords are doing special food nights in the new restaurant upstairs..which has a great atmosphere...and so far, everyone has been very impressed. With quiz nights, music nights and just brilliant hosting skills, Michaela and Stuart have turned the place around in record time. Once again, walkers are dropping in, the locals pack the place out and people eat there all the time...Friday night is a must...a great atmosphere and Stuart and Michaela make it feel like a real house party, even if you aren't a local, they offer a great welcome to all. They are brilliant with walkers and tourists who make a bee line for the place again. (check out the 'take aways', curry nights and chillis...top drawer quality...top drawer price!)You really could not ask for 2 better landlords and a top drawer team making every effort to keep one of the most beautiful pubs in the UK open and doing a roaring trade. They deserve a big pat on the back for their efforts and in a world where there are many pubs closing every week, the whole team, including Laura and Claire are a credit to the industry. I am thrilled to have my local back and to see old chums in there once again. Drop in, have a beer or a glass of wine and a great meal..you'll be glad you did...and the locals are really friendly too! Well done Stuart & Michaela...you deserve the success!

I have visited the Flying Horse often, both before and since the change of management. It has improved tremendously in a short space of time.

On my last visit the selection of beer was good (Courage Directors, London Pride, Harvey's, Green King IPA, plus the usual lagers: Fosters, kronenbourg and Stella). The Harvey's was superbly kept.

I only had a snack - which was excellent - but the meals ordered by the next table looked good and the people were very complimentary. The service was fast and friendly and the whole atmosphere very enjoyable.

This is a lovely old pub, right on the village cricket green. There are tables outside at the front and a big garden behind. I expect it will be very popular in spring and summer.

The new landords are doing a good job, improving the reputation of the pub which had been allowed to go downhill. I'd strongly encourage you to give the place a try, rather than dwell on some of the earlier comments.

Was very surprised to see such negative posts about this pub, I've been using the Flying Horse for nearly six months now and can honestly say i have always experienced friendly and enthusiastic service whether just popping in for a pint or having a meal.
I eat there on a regular basis including the superb roasts offered on Sundays,
Visited again last night with my two sons to sample the 'sizzling Saturday specials' and i doubt our plates needed scraping as every delicious morsel was consumed.
Keep up the good work !!

Went for Sunday lunch this afternoon which proved to be a big mistake! Cold pub, cold food, dirty toilets & poor staff. What a disappointment! Went there back in June & had a great lunch on a nice sunny day. Spoke to the landlord at the time (sadly no longer there) who said business wasn't great. I think it had Cask Mark then as I had several pints of Harveys & St. Austells Tribute which were beautifully kept but todays offering was very ordinary. Can't say I'll be going back! Suggest anyone reading this tries The Halfway House up the hill which server proper pub food consistently well.

55 Red Cross ' Home fro Hospital' volunteers from the area were given a 'thank you' Christmas buffet lunch here for the work that they do by the Red Cross. We were crammed into a tiny room at the back of the pub. The food was a disgrace bought in sausages rolls, Pizza, spring rolls, and chicken gougons, sandwiches were cheese and pickle, ham and mustard, or Tuna. It was served with tea or coffee later water and orange juice were produced. There was not a lot of food and I gather it cost 8.50 a head with an extra charge made for the cold drinks of 25 You would have thought the pub might have pushed the boat out to encourage us to return again all it did was leave a very disappointed group of volunteers and staff who are unlikely to ever return to the pub again.

My ancestors owned the Flying Horse in the early 19th Century, so I do try and visit occasionally. Last time was some six years ago, packed for lunch, cheery and welcoming landlady, well decorated and excellent food.

Today, went for lunch, was initially surprised that we were the only people apart from a small party having drinks before going elsewhere to eat. Barman, uninterested, but took order twenty minutes before first course arrived, after I had asked where it was. Small portions but adequate. Main courses: a) scampi and chips - chips appeared to be reheated from yesterday, green stuff was probably mushy peas but might have been spinach - or anything else: 2) chilli was off so settled for chicken pasta - big mistake. This was dry unappetising and frankly looked and tasted like last week's leftovers. Bought glass of merlot for friend. When i asked for one had run out! but offered sauvignon and told they had 30 bottles of it. When I asked why the discrepancy, apparently the merlot is popular so sold out! When I tasted the sauvignon, I understood why there was so much.

Having read reviews on another site, I understand why the pub was empty. A two hundred year connection is now broken as unless it changes hands to someone who cares, my next visit will surely find it a chinese restaurant - still at least I shall get good service and good food!

How tragic that English institutions like this are falling into disrepute. Its not the competition, its not the drink driving laws its the sheer incompetence of the managment.

Now under new management and refurbished. Four ales on the hand pumps, and friendly service. It's one of those places I've been popping into on the odd occasion for some years, and it looks like I will be continuing to do so.

Pleasant country pub with decent choice of ales and good food. Good garden at rear, and patio at the front from where you can watch the cricket on the village green
