Haven't been out this way for years and years. Dropped in on a Friday evening for a brief pint. Great pint of Tring Ridgeway and nice, mixed, atmosphere.

At last - in Steve and Lizzie, we have a pub landlord and lady wife who really understand the business. In the six months they have been here, the Rose and Crown has regained its rightful position as the best pub in Sandridge. The beer, (particularly the Inspiration!) has improved no end, the food, (particularly the mussels) that is served, is faultless, and the ambience is now a delight.
BUT HEY - Oak Taverns have clearly shot themselves in the foot as they have relinquished the lease, and, yet again, an excellent landlord who has proven that he can make this pub really work, will shortly be leaving :-(
On behalf of all those who have supported the Rose and Crown for many years (in my case,35) let's have some consistency of management - let's hope that the new landlord maintains, and even improves on the exceptionally standards set by Steve and Lizzie - they'll be sorely missed!!

Much improved pub with good value food (the brie & bacon baguette was excellent) and well-priced beer with Jennings Cumberland at �2.70. Nice atmosphere and good service. Only let down by the unadventurous choice of ales (L.Pride, Jennings, Marstons). Now probably the best pub in the village.

I have found myself becoming a regular in this pub recently the charming young landlady is a breath of fresh air and certainly knows how to keep a decent pint the dirty tackle is delightfull. I look forward to my return.

me and my family regularly go to the rose and crown on a sunday for a carvery. the food is always good which is what attracts us to the pub. but the repetition I received the last time I went was shocking. I used to like the old manager sean he was friendly and always willing to speak to the customers but now there is a young which doesn't even look old enough to run a pub! she was rude and didn't take interest in any of the customers. she sat at the end of the bar to busy talking to the locals and didn't bother doing anything else people were queuing at the bar and she was still talking to other people. I truly believe that the pub will go down hill from now on if you carry on with having management like that. I will never return.

ventured in recently despite all the bad things i had heard and found the food to be okay but not as good as before, what i didn't like though was the bad atmosphere, there was a sullen faced teenager girl behind the bar who spent half the time sitting with her back to customers the other side of the bar. This truly is the last time i will bother with the rose and crown, peole want a nice atmosphere and friendly barstaff.

funny, i dont drink in there anymore as it seems to be the pub that allows in the less savoury villagers, which is why i find all Shauns glowing reports slightly odd too!
Last time we went in, we had been in for a few hours and spent a considerable ammount of cash, he asked us to leave 5 minutes after the bell, which left a sour taste (one of my mates had already left as he said the stout left an equally bad taste), if we hadnt had the dog i would have gone across the road for a decent beer!
Everytime ive spoken to people the feedback on Shaun is very different to what is written on here.....

Here we go again, just as Shaun was getting the Rose back on its feet!
Hopefully the new landlady will pay more attention to waiting customers than she has demonstrated during the couple of times I've been in there over the last few days - otherwise, the regulars and others will desert the place again. Thankfully, we've got two excellent alternatives in the Village and Oak Taverns would be well advised to remember that fact.

Firstly I would like to say that...yes.. I have only 'just' registered and this my 'first' post but on reading all the reviews I would like to say that i don't think there was anything particularly underhand about the so called 'scripted comments' in shaun's favour, i actually think that locals wanted to support him after all the changes they have seen this pub go through and that they appreciated his efforts to try and turn the place around so maybe they were a bit over enthusiastic but think they were just giving their honest opinions of their experiences... and maybe they don't rub freddie's belly or feed him choc drops but they do have dog biscuits on bar, lol.
have just heard that shaun is leaving and a young girl coming in so yet another one bites the dust but at least he gave it a shot, as much as he could considering oak taverns were kind of hindering him.

Found them very friendly here, the food looks good although I have not eaten it. The beer choice was a average and served just about ok. I am tempted to mark it down as I do not like owners and friends commenting on their pub as it makes pubs difficult to judge for the rest of us. If you feel its that good you shouldn't need to do that.

If 90 people enjoyed the carvery on sunday wait for one of those to comment on this site. The point that is trying to be made is that by posting false reviews on this site (numerous 1st time reviewers leaving glowing reports using obvious catering cliches all within the same few days) does nothing but make the real users of this site smell a rat.

Sad that individuals who dont visit the place anymore (and if they do i wish they would sod off) have to comment out of spit when the pub is actually moving forward. The comments from those who matter however prevail. I seem to recall 90 people having a fantastic carvery here yesterday!! or maybe i just mis counted the number of people who now enjoy Sundays here!!!

Beautiful pub, a taste of ye olde England. A fireplace to die for. Lovely to spend an afternoon or an evening here. Wide selection of food available all day and at a good price. Always a warm welcome. Children and dogs welcome. This is our local and it is a pleasure to set off on a dog walk and know this is our destination. Freddy our dog likes it here as much as we do!!!!

Wow, I've got to meet this Shaun bloke - he sounds too good to be true!! Never have i read such scripted Bullsh*t in my life from so many people who have only registered once in order to give The Rose and Crown and Shaun a reach around. Great comments are earnt through hard work and consistency.
To quote the last post "Shaun's wicked sense of humour, Maz's sexy dresses and Richards comedy routines!! " - someone, somewhere needs to get a grip.

Haven't been in for a while as i have been working away but i do agree with the general opinion that the place is brightening up again, remember when Ross was first in? and fridays and saturdays were great? well last time I was in Shaun, Maz and Richard were creating a fantastic atmosphere and making people feel really welcome because they actually take the time to get to know people. (plus Shaun's wicked sense of humour, Maz's sexy dresses and Richards comedy routines!! I always feel it is the characters that make the place and they are all outgoing and fun. Really looking to christmas in the rose.

Shaun and all his staff at the Rose & Crown have been so supportive of our local charity walking group and have provided us with a place to hold our fund raising events and a warm and inviting venue to go back to after our walks up into the Heartswood Forest. The welcome is second to none and having our base here has added a fantastic dimension to what we can offer our walkers. So thank you Shaun for all your support.
We have also had some great nights at the pub which have ranged from a 40th birthday bash to a brilliant Halloween night. The Halloween night in particular was a credit to Shaun's hard work and eye for detail with amazing decorations, live music, great ales and free food on offer. It was also great to see the locals rise to the challange with some fantastic costumes which in my mind shows how much backing Shaun is now getting from his regulars

This is, in my view, by a long way the best pub in the village. However it has suffered over the past few years from Owners/Brewers not putting anyone decent in there to run it and create a stable environment to attract locals back in. The last two incumbents were a disaster. However at last the new company running it have remedied that by putting a decent manager in some six months ago, who seems to know what he is doing.
The food has improved 100% and they are now attracting the right sort of people back, having weeded out the not so good bar staff (and punters). The portions are a highlight as is the quality (everyone talks about the chips) and there is a real buzz particularly with the adoption of a Sunday carvery. (shame they put the Carvery prices up so much so quickly a couple of weeks ago, accepted it is a commercial world we live in, but they could have built up a bit more goodwill first!!!)
As a regular user who refuses to drink in the other village pubs!!! i am glad to see there is some consistency at last with the new manager, who seems to have some good ideas for moving things forward and is trying to embrace both regulars and new customers. I hope the new company recognise this and keep this stability or they will fall into the same problems as previous owners.
There are still some teething problems while the new staff re-energise the place, but there is definitely an improved clientelle using the pub and a good spirit developing among the customers who like the new manager Shaun.

As has been mentioned before on here, the refurb of this pub about this time last year was, IMO, one of the best things to happen to this pub. It went downhill right at the start of the year but seems to be on the up again now. We've been in the village for about 3 years now and this is definitely our first choice if we want to pop out in the evening or grab a bite to eat. The decor improved, lovely tiled floors and a nice warm open fire in the winter.
Also, there's now a manager there who knows how to run a proper pub (he seems to be in there 7 days a week though and I'm sure he could do with a day off!), with a great range of beers, good cider :) and great food, throughout the week and the Sunday carvery which is top nosh. I find this place welcoming, with a great atmosphere. I'm even happy to go there on my own as it's not an intimidating place to go on your own.
It seems to be getting busier and busier which certainly wasn't the case before Shaun arrived, so big slaps on the back for him - he's always been very chatty and affable when we've been there and was certainly one of the reasons we started going back more. Heartily recommended!

have had lunch here a few times and have to say was delicious though the portions were just too much but the carvery was a different story, staff running round like headless chickens, not enough cutlery etc. we had booked a table and then someone else was sat there, Not sure what to make of the manager, he seems to have a rather dry sense of humour and be reasonably friendly but he always seems to be slagging someone off or moaning and the problem with that in a village is that people catch on to that pretty quickly.
Also was in there a couple of weeks ago and he had a good crowd in there but sat on sofa and was telling people they were closed at 11.05pm!!!! so last orders at 11 then close five minutes later, you have to have a reasonable amount of drinking up time surely?? On a more positive note they have some hot barmaids with curves you could eat your dinner off.

Went in there for a beer this afternoon to find just one bitter available - walked over the road and there's plenty of choice.

My wife and I have have been drinking in the Rose for over 30 years. It's a lovely pub, it has been refurbished recently and has great potential. We have seen so many landlords come and go over the years and we just hope that Shaun, who has now taken it over, will really make a success of it. He has started well and has a number of initiatives in hand or planned and we hope he can realise the pub's full potential.

At last, a decent Manager in this place, think he hasnt been there very long but what a difference he has made to it..The food is quality and fantastic value for money... Its a mix of traditional pub food but with a hint of a quality restaurant in the way it is served to you, you wont be left feeling hungry after you have eaten in this pub..Keep this up and it will be back to normal in no time...Once word gets out how good the food is, im sure customers will be queing to get a place in no time at all...Did pop in on the sunday but there was a BBQ, shame really as the weather wasnt good at all.. I went in as i got told by someone who has eaten in there recently that the standard of food has gone up tenfold, they were definately right about that... give it ago, im sure you wont be dissapointed with what you order...Very impressed..

I popped in here with my husband on sunday simply because we were visiting friends nearby. They had a barbeque on and we didn't eat as we had already eaten beforehand but everyone seemed friendly though it was on the quiet side considering they had an event on. It was lovely to have free musical entertainment but I have to say it would have been a bit more proffessional to have real musicians playing than using backing tracks, but that said both my husband and I were very impressed by the standard of two of the singers, in particular the blonde lady who had an amazing voice and also the brunette who sang a bob dylan cover which was very moving. The others were rather dubious but no doubt they were joining in for fun and as it was free you can't complain. We would definitely come again and wish the new landlord lots of luck!

This Pub yet again has a new landlord... This time i went in with my children and i was pleasantly suprised... fantastic food, traditional pub style too. The new landlord will do really well in there... He is polite, genuine and caters for all needs... my son wanted something they didnt have, within a short time, someone when out and my son had what he wanted and very quickly... This pub in my estimation has improved ten fold... would recommend this pub.. great traditional family pub with a landlord called Shaun who caters for all...My mate went in there with me today and told him she has an allergy to wheat andd Gluten... today she had a Salad but next time she goes in there, he is going to make sure he has some wheat and gluten free bread and also some pasta a few other bits for her that she can eat..In my opinion i would rate this pub along with customer service outstanding... Will most definately make it a once a week treat foe me my family and I.

Well, thank goodness the temporary manager and her cronies have left as the regulars were dropping like flies. As everyone knows the r and c has changed hands a ridiculous amount of times, partly due to the fact the pub has been confused about what it was and people trying to make it into the wrong thing. I wasn't going to go back after the last lot but am glad I did, an excellent selection of wines and a great new manager, Shaun, who I feel will make a go of the place and rebuild the pub's reputation. Friendly barstaff and some real characters which is what you need in a village pub and at the end of the day that's what makes a place popular. The ale tastes good and the atmosphere is welcoming. Am looking forward to sampling the food and seeing what entertainment they put on.

I think perhaps this site has malfunctioned a bit as my sister made a comment on this pub after eating a meal there and then has since seen comments with her user name but at risk of this happening to me I will say that this pub never gets it right as before it was trying to be a gastro pub in a village and now it thinks it's in the roughest part of luton, rough as you like and such a shame. This is a prime example of what happens if you get people that don't understand the area let alone the people. oh and it stiiiiiiiiiiinkkkkkkkkkkksssss!!!

i have used this pub for many years and i really thought after a succession of managers the last lot were really heading in the right direction although i wasnt a huge fan of the food
Chefs came and went all with the hope of doing something good, but no matter what they said they never turned out food to my liking....... as a previous poster said, maybe they tried to cook everything too fast or werent used to the kitchen, i had a liver & bacon a little over a month ago, burnt bacon, liver overcooked, oven roasted vegetables that also had black edges, accompanied by black gravy...... not what i was expecting from someone parading around like a * chef

Went here today for mothers day treat, booked table in advance as we had 2 children, needed wheelchair access and had a baby with us (16 months old) - all of which we informed when booking was made. The food was not good all 6 of us had roast dinner 5 pork, 1 beef. The portions were poor we asked to purchased a dish of extra roast potatos and we was informed this was not possible as they were all counted. 2 (half) potatos for adult, 1 for a child. This was just the begining, the vegetables take 'al dente' to another level, i mean i like a bite to my veg but this was ridiculous pipping hot the food was but very raw even the potatos were over cooked on outside but still raw in the middle, yorkshire puddings were over cooked an so was the beef, dryed out. Gravy must have also been rationed, the carrots an parsip also under cooked. No provisions were made for the childrens dinners they was exactly the same, i had to ask for babies veg to be cooked more, which was not a problem it was done immediately. lol i must say the pork was divine though cooked to perfection which actually stopped me from making a fuss as who wants to be put in this postion on Mothers day, my day off. The food was not good all 6 of us had roast dinner 5 pork, 1 beef. The portions were poor we asked to purchased a dish of extra roast potatos and we was informed this was not possible as they were all counted. 2 (half) potatos for adult, 1 for a child. This was just the begining, the vegetables take 'al dente' to another level, i mean i like a bite to my veg but this was ridiculous pipping hot the food was but very raw even the potatos were over cooked on outside but still raw in the middle, yorkshire puddings were over cooked an so was the beef, dryed out. Gravy must have also been rationed, the carrots an parsip also under cooked. No provisions were made for the childrens dinners they was exactly the same, i had to ask for babies veg to be cooked more, which was not a problem it was done immediately. lol i must say the pork was divine though cooked to perfection which actually stopped me from making a fuss as who wants to be put in this postion on Mothers day, my day off. he new bar staff are not nice and friendly like the old ones.. and they dont provide newspapers or welcome dogs anymore, so I have stopped going there, which is a shame as the drinks were cheap under the old management... and the interior is very olde world

The Honey ham had string it which i noticed before my child started eating it. The beer was very raw, The potateos was cold and hard in the mild. The yorkshire puddings where burnt and very oily. Carrots that turned in to buutersquash strange.The service was very slow we had to wait 20 mins before ordering food even though the pub was quite, then had to wait longer for poor food to arrive. would not go back to have food here again

I visted this pub today 20th march 2011. I was not very happy with serves or the serves of the food.
The pub looks lovely from out side and inside shame about the food and staff. The food was slow and poor and cold. There was 5 of us in our party and not one of our roast dinners was nice. The Honey ham had string it which i noticed before my child started eating it. The beer was very raw, The potateos was cold and hard in the mild. The yorkshire puddings where burnt and very oily. The Rose and Crown is currently closed, with no sign of any refurbishment taking place. I fear this may be the end for this ancient hostelry.

Went here today for mothers day treat, booked table in advance as we had 2 children, needed wheelchair access and had a baby with us (16 months old) - all of which we informed when booking was made. The food was not good all 6 of us had roast dinner 5 pork, 1 beef. The portions were poor we asked to purchased a dish of extra roast potatos and we was informed this was not possible as they were all counted. 2 (half) potatos for adult, 1 for a child. This was just the begining, the vegetables take 'al dente' to another level, i mean i like a bite to my veg but this was ridiculous pipping hot the food was but very raw even the potatos were over cooked on outside but still raw in the middle, yorkshire puddings were over cooked an so was the beef, dryed out. Gravy must have also been rationed, the carrots an parsip also under cooked. No provisions were made for the childrens dinners they was exactly the same, i had to ask for babies veg to be cooked more, which was not a problem it was done immediately. lol i must say the pork was divine though cooked to perfection which actually stopped me from making a fuss as who wants to be put in this postion on Mothers day, my day off. In short i wound certainly not recommend this venue for food at all, but staff were lovely and service was swift, add this to the delicious pork, hence i paid my bill and left without complaint, and as much as i should have tipped for service, i didnt as i had been ripped off enough with paying for the terrible food. Sorry pub but your grub was not upto scratch infact a long way off the mark, cooked to fast at too high temp i think have a word with your chef!

Oh my goodness, don't really know where to start with this one. I am one of the regulars here and have lived in this village for over 15 years so believe me I have seen this once highly successful pub change hands many times but this latest lot beggar belief. Alot of the regulars are now giving it a wide berth. why? you may ask, well it now seems you have to have missing teeth or tatoos all over your neck and face to work here and believe me this is not what I want serving me food. some of them can barely speak and you should clock the look of horror on people's faces when they come into this country pub and discover something of a pikey hangout. The people they are letting in are types who are barred everywhere else and I for one won't be setting foot in here again.
Strangely the pub is tidier but stinks to high heaven, can only assume this is due to the dogs running about. The last manager was pretty useless and couldn't run a bath let alone a pub but at least it had a nice client�le and attractive staff, not so now. I could only really recommend if frozen food is your thing and a less than savoury ambience. I give it 6 months max.

Thankyou for the lovely comments and the constructive ones too, i was the chef here at the rose and crown until the change of hands in the lease, so was no longer needed in this pub it changed hands on the 11th april but i must admit the rissotto is fantastic lol thankyou so i'll keep you updated as to where i'll be working so you can come and have more,cheers guys jimmy

Went here for a friend's birthday dinner after we were told they had an amazing new chef and have to say we were really impressed by the creative menu, much better than all the usual frozen rubbish on offer!
I wanted the pigeon breast but menu had changed from when I had been in to get a sample, which is actually a good thing as when you find a good place you don't want the same menu again and again if you are going to eat there regularly.
All four of us had the ham hock terrine which was delicious, followed by rib eye steaks which were cooked to perfection. Waitress was friendly and gorgeous too, which was much appreciated by the men in our party. A real find and we will definitely be going back to sample more.

I agree with other people's (generally) favourable views of this pub. However, I've just learnt that it's now shut most afternoons, which means there's nowhere to drink in Sandridge between 3pm and 6pm. This is tragic!

I wanted the pigeon breast but menu had changed from when I had been in to get a sample, which is actually a good thing as when you find a good place you don't want the same menu again and again if you are going to eat there regularly.
All four of us had the ham hock terrine which was delicious, followed by rib eye steaks which were cooked to perfection. Waitress was friendly and gorgeous too, which was much appreciated by the men in our party. A real find and we will definitely be going back to sample more.

Have just heard that the rose is changing hands again, such a shame as business seems to be booming since the new chef started and the staff are always friendly and helpful, one of the few pubs in the area that welcome both children and dogs.
We ate here twice recently and the food was delicious, I had the chilli king Prawns and my wife had the mussels which she said were the best she had had.
Last time we both had the risotto which was awesome. Very surprised by some of the reviews on here but I guess there will always be complainers who will never be satisfied as when we ate there the people around us were as enthusiastic as us and there was a real buzz about the place and the food!

In short i wound certainly not recommend this venue for food at all, but staff were lovely and service was swift, add this to the delicious pork, hence i paid my bill and left without complaint, and as much as i should have tipped for service, i didnt as i had been ripped off enough with paying for the terrible food. Sorry pub but your grub was not upto scratch infact a long way off the mark, cooked to fast at too high temp i think have a word with your chef!

I went to this place last sunday and would like to say a big thankyou for their hospitable service the beef was cooked to my liking and my wife who is vegetarian also enjoyed the nutroast and all trimmings

I visited the rose and crown pub for my daughter's 30th birthday which was for sunday lunch around a fortnight ago. The place was packed out and the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. The staff went out of their way to make a fuss of my daughter and were attentive without being over bearing. The food was delicious and much more akin to a london restaurant than a village pub and all freshly cooked, which is what my daughter had requested as so many places these days cook from frozen and you can always tell.
The table next to us were also equally impressed and we will definitely be going back to try there weekday menu as soon as we can. really impressed by the staff too, who were happy to chat when they had the time.

I visted this pub today 20th march 2011. I was not very happy with serves or the serves of the food.
The pub looks lovely from out side and inside shame about the food and staff. The food was slow and poor and cold. There was 5 of us in our party and not one of our roast dinners was nice. The Honey ham had string it which i noticed before my child started eating it. The beer was very raw, The potateos was cold and hard in the mild. The yorkshire puddings where burnt and very oily. Carrots that turned in to buutersquash strange.The service was very slow we had to wait 20 mins before ordering food even though the pub was quite, then had to wait longer for poor food to arrive. would not go back to have food here again.

Very impressed with the recent refurb, pub is looking great and it's thriving under the new ownership. Family & pet-friendly. Good beers on tap (love the Doom Bar and Hobgoblin) and an impressive wine list.
The kitchen has also undergone a complete refurbishment and has been open now for the last few weeks. Went there for a Sunday Roast last week and the food quality was very good (all locally sourced meats) and reasonably priced. Had lunch there again on Friday, the new chef had started and our party all enjoyed their meals. Landlord Ross and his staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them.

I haven't been in this pub for years but thought I would try it since it has changed hands and undergone refurbishment. Food was very good and reasonably priced. Staff very friendly and myself and my friend were particularly smitten with the gorgeous blonde barmaid as well as the ale. Will be returning very soon.

Extremely impressed with the new refurb inside and out, especially the back room now with comfy sofa. Impressive selection of beers and wines and looking forward to the opening of the kitchen as the menu looks great. Really pleased to have a pub back in the village that welcomes both dogs and children,

We're currently closed for refurbishment, but are due to open mid August, with at least 4 real ales, a great wine list, fresh coffee all day and freshly cooked food.

The Rose and Crown is currently closed, with no sign of any refurbishment taking place. I fear this may be the end for this ancient hostelry.

The quieter of the three pubs in the Sandridge triangle with just a few diners in on a weekday lunchtime. Much better looking inside than out with pleasant d�cor and a cared for feel about it. There are a number of different rooms and the main bar has a massive Inglenook fireplace. Small beer garden with a gazebo offering some shade. Beer was a bit uninspiring, Old Speckled hen and Pride. Both the pub cat and pub dog were in evidence.

This pub is struggling. My wife and I went there for a lunch and chose baked potato and chilli (price 'from' �2.95) I had a pint of London Pride which was good and nicely kept. My wife had tap water. The whole came to �11.50 so they really did mean 'from' �2.95! Poor value for money. The potato was fluffy - though it wasn't baked but rather done in the microwave. The chilli was just that - chilli sauce and no meat or certainly less than one teaspoonful of it spread over both dishes. Service unbelievably slow (eight meals served in 30 minutes and only nine people in the pub. We were lucky 'cos our dish was available but others who came in afterwards found two items on the menu - a menu that was only two weeks old - taken off, not just sold out. Of course they weren't told what was was off and what was on before they looked at the menu.
They do have newspapers on the bar; we needed them whilst waiting 30 mins for the food, and there is a black labrador to greet you. There is some odd rule re dogs too but not having one we didn't read it. Some years ago this place was excellent. Now, I'd give this place a miss if I were you. We won't go back.

A really nice, friendly local. Two cats and a very nice dog were very much in evidence. Dogs that chase the cats might be the ones banned. As for providing newspapers, this seems to be VERY much a thing of the past.

Visited this place for the past two weekends at lunch time and found the bar staff to be very friendly and enjoyed a nice pint of Stella on both occasions. Very nice building, loads of room and a nice Olde Worlde interior.

the new bar staff are not nice and friendly like the old ones.. and they dont provide newspapers or welcome dogs anymore, so I have stopped going there, which is a shame as the drinks were cheap under the old management... and the interior is very olde world

Ooh, what's happened here? While the 2 nearby pubs were buzzing, this one was gloomy, hardly any customers, and the barlady had a bit of a barney with a bloke about moving some furniture.

Made one of my occasional visits to this lovely old pub yesterday. Seems to have changed hands yet again. Very friendly, London Pride very drinkable. Menu is now more "pub food" than "restaurant" (not necessarily a bad thing). Veggie selection poor, just a couple of microwave standards on offer. Bar munchies also poor: a handful of packets of obscure-brand crisps, no cheese'n'onion. Dogs no longer permitted in bar, and possibly not garden either, which will be a big disappointment to some prospective customers (they have their own dog, which presumably does not play well with others).

I like what they've done here. The eating area at the back has been expanded whilst the front of the pub is dedicated to drinkers. Prices are reasonable and the service is good.

I agree with other people's (generally) favourable views of this pub. However, I've just learnt that it's now shut most afternoons, which means there's nowhere to drink in Sandridge between 3pm and 6pm. This is tragic!

Under new management, I think. 3 proper ales to choose from, and the menu looked OK although I didn't eat here today. Some of the barstaff were a bit vague, but this is still an interesting pub and worth visiting.
As for the rest of Sandridge: the village store has reopened, there are 2 other pubs and a church, and that's yer lot. All quite charming - I might retire here!

Don't believe the sign outside that says 'Food All Day, Every Day'. When I went in and asked for a menu I was told they were 'fully booked'. As there were tables available, I think 'Chef's Day Off' may have been a more likely explanation. I shall not be returning. There are better pubs and I expect better food elsewhere!

The only Sandridge pub to open in the afternoon. 15th century building, well maintained. Good lunch menu, 1200-1430. Currently 3 real ales. Worth checking out.
