Another pub I visited in June.
The pub is right between the castle and the truly magnificent cathedral. As a result, I expected a somewhat more historic look and feel and vibe about the place. However, inside its quite modern, bright and airy and spread over a few levels.
I'd just walked up the aptly named 'Steep Hill' so was looking forward to a pint. Had a Pedigree which was fine but not exceptional. I was driving so couldn't have more, but if not quite my sort of place it was perfectly fine for a quick pint. Service was friendly and efficient but it was pretty quiet with only half a dozen or so punters in so far as I could see. Gents were clean and decent size which is always welcome!

Probably been refurbished since Barrow Beer Hunter visited. Range of 5 from the Marston stable and appeared to be one of the cheaper pubs in Lincoln.

Marstons pub at the top of Steep Hill (You will be ready for a drink after the climb!) If you get a seat outside you have the castle to the left and Cathedral to the right. Marstons pedigree, Wychwood Hobgoblin, Jennings and Banks's Black Diamond Ruby beer. Slightly tired inside, but staff friendly and food seemed okay.

Busy Marstons pub at the top of Steep Hill. It's got a prominent location, that will always ensure it has trade and the interior is fairly pleasant. It is modern and split level, but not a bad place to have a pint. The only problem is the restrictive ale range - Jennings Sneck Lifter & Cumberland Ale, Wychwood Hobgoblin & Brakspear Bitter.

Pretty 'identikit' chain pub. A good range of ales, but service was lax. I shouldn't really need to have to ask for a top-up if the top quarter of the glass is clearly froth, and I certainly don't expect a dirty look for asking. Food was OK.

Clean and comfortable Marstons chain pub, with enough olde attractiveness not to feel out of place against the Cathedral; no Pedigree bu the Jennings beer was very good.

Nice pub. Friendly staff, well-treated beers, much welcome after the "climb" up Steep Hill.

A nice little pub, well positioned to revive the weary traveller after a hard walk up the aptly named Steep Hill. Beer and wine fine and prices not too bad for a city centre. And our food - a mixed grill and some sort of chicken platter - was pretty much par for the course. But, a common complaint, why do busy pubs cut costs by having too few staff on at peak times. One (quick and pleasant) young woman was on her own and her cheery "Back in a couple of minutes" turned into 10 minutes as I stood at the bar waiting for a refill and she cleared the debris of a party of about 20 students. In the end I just gave up. They need at least one behind the bar and one serving/clearing. Pity, because otherwise it deserves to do well.

I liked the 'Magna Carta' pub, clean+tidy, split-level bar area, good staff, with a Tv room upstairs on 3rd level (where i watched Argentina get tonked by Germany 4-0 in this years World Cup...! Even England put two goals passed Germany...!) I digress, nice pub! Nice town. Will re-visit. 7/10

A pub located in the middle of the old part of the town between the cathedral and the castle. Walls are largely covered in wood and the lounge was split into 2 levels with another lounge upstairs. The seating was comfortable. The bar offered a good choice of real ales and the food was reasonably priced.

The Magna Carta was very busy when we arrived but we were promtly served by friendly bar staff. The cask beers were both in good form. We enjoyed it so much we stayed for several drinks. The pub was clean and we could not fault it. Jo the licensee is obviously doing a great job and we will certainly visit again the next time we come to Lincoln

I really liked this pub. The food was good, toilets clean and staff friendly. Had a pint of Marstons which slid down well and the pub decor wasn't too over the top.
After the climb up Steep Hill it's worth visiting and having a well earned pint...

cheap and cheerfull. I was on a pub crawl at the weekend, me and a group of mates had a quick cocktail but thought it was quite freindly and affordable although a bit tiered on the inside.

If you're a local and fancy a good quality pint in a quiet friendly pub DO NOT GO HERE!!!! Unfriendly, dirty and the beer glasses smelt of sick so haven't cleaned the lines in ages, had to walk past all the staff standing the entrance fagging and then tutting cause I might want serving!

Two historical old buildings in the centre of Lincoln, right between the castle and the cathedral, were unsympathetically knocked together by Mansfield Breweries in the 1990's to create a hideous mock tudor interior resembling a 1970's Beefeater. The achitect who designed this conversion should get a special visit from the man with a baseball bat.
