The Napoleon is at the top end of Boscombe and was our favourite out of the two we tried. It's in a quiet area. But the pub has three rooms with lots of character. Toilets are outdoors in the corridor that separates the rooms. It's a St Austell house. So Tribute, Cornish Best & HSD were the ales. We decided to have dinner here, which was ok and reasonably priced. Dogs are welcomed and one nearly manage to get to my Sunday roast. But it was just a few centimetres beyond the end of his/her leash! A traditional boozer that is worth seeking out.

Back in Cornwall again for a family holiday and a new record; a beer in my hand within half an hour of arrival! This particular beer was served up at the Napoleon Inn and the lady wife and I sat in the sunny beer garden overlooking what would be a lovely view if not for the house opposite. The service was friendly and the locals pleasant and chatty. We booked a table for the evening and were not disappointed, the food was terrific and reasonably priced. in fact we kept going back and always enjoyed the experience although on one night I would have preferred not to have a live singer taking up most of the bar with her organ. This is,however, a minor complaint. Dartmoor, Tribute and HSD were served straight from the cask and in decent condition.

Friendly pub with a good menu. We ate here three times during a recent stay in Boscastle and the food was always excellent, especially the pheasant terrine. Recommended.

Quiet, even on a sunny April lunchtime probably due to its location away from the lower village and harbour (and tourists). Tribute and HSD on gravity plus Cornish Rattler cider. Tried the HSD which was in OK condition. Meals were well priced and we enjoyed eating out in the pub's beer garden which has good views over the surrounding countryside. If they knocked down the house the other side of the car park the view would be even better. The pub building itself is interesting and worth a look around.

Fantastic service, great atmosphere and friendly staff. Amazing decor and great beer. Good music and an all round fantatic place would definatly recomend it for anyone who likes to relax and have a good pint or two. Overall a great pub in the lovely settlement of Boscastle.

Great pub, just 5 paces from the door of the cottage we used! Good beer and food. Very busy, even in October, but that's 'cos it's good.

Went here with some doubts having read reviews although it had been booked by a friend who goes often. A busy Friday night-it was the local food and craft festival-but no problems at all. Friendly and efficient service for drinks and food which was very good and not unreasonably priced for Cornwall holiday places. Excellent pint of HSD from the barrel. Atmosphere completed by live acoustic music in the back bar.

Very, very quiet. Literally us, one woman and her dog. Pub looks superb from the outside, and the original features are in evidence inside. Tribute from the cask, which is unusual, but suffered a little from the warm and humid air. Friendly barman, but more interested in chatting to the local. Quite difficult to find when going into Boscastle - easier when driving out of the village as the signage is easier to see - and very, very steep road to the car park, but then everything in Boscastle is steep.
Overwhelming smell of toilets in the bar (Funs Bar - why?) as they are close to the bar door. In my opinion,it's never a good thing when the bar is full of flies buzzing around....

Like many St. Austell brewery pubs the experience is generic and underwhelming - even though they have some of the best pub buildings. This one is old and fine for a pint of the usual brewery beer, the food is ok, however it took almost 2 hours from ordering to getting served (admittedly for 10 people but we had booked), plus the constant twang of rock musak the place was adequately served by a roster of local teenagers who roved from being flustered to sweaty poor chaps. Average drinking, average eating, lovely old pub

After a crap experience in the cobweb (see review) tried this one instead. Not worth the walk up the hill so wished I hadn't. Pubs like this don't expect repeat custom but rely in summer on day visitors who won't be back. Beer warm and on the turn, I politely pointed this out and was told I knew not of what I spoke. 'Tribute tastes like that' (but it didn't at the brewer nor the other three pubs I tried it in) So that was that. Ho hum, tourists flock to Boscastle like sheep. Sheep get fleeced. Go figure.

Tribute was very warm, but I can half forgive that as it had been a very hot day and the pint came straight from the cask. Wet towels over the casks behind the bar were insufficient to cool the beer down. Mind you, my partners white wine was also served warm. Didn't get any food as we arrived 1 minute past the 9 O'clock cut-off time and the bar-staff were not for budging.

Undoubtedly atmospheric & food good although limited menu when we were there. It was full to bursting point when we went which shows it is popular but not necessarily what you want for a cosy relaxed pint- it was a Saturday night though to be fair. Friendly manager and wife. Overall good but preferred Cobweb.

What a lovely place to spend some time. Full of atmosphere, hospitality , well kept beer and great food. We keep going back year after year and it seems to get better all the timeI unreservedly recommend the Tribute and try the homemade bread and butter pudding - it's to die for! If you're in the area you must pop in.

I love it. Loads of small rooms and corners to hide in. Old and romantic. Fires on even in summer. Lovely atmosphere. The food well, melt in your mouth.

the only decent pub in the town, great bar staff, great food, great beer.

A rare find indeed! A pub of great character and individualism. It boasts a superb atmosphere and friendly staff, and excellent beer - what more could you possible want! Oh yes, and the bar food is pretty good too!

This is one of those pubs you find quite by chance and know instantly that you will be back. Again and again. And six years on from that initial oh, so brief, encounter, I'm still utterly in love with the Napoleon. Even with the {...how should I put this...?} challenging behaviour of the credit card machine and the occasional seating slip up every visit to this haven for the weary and jaded pub-goer provides further proof that England still provides pubs of truly magnificent character. The staff are in every way the loveliest set of people you could ever wish to meet, the fare from the kitchen is of a quality which quite belies the price and gives a very welcome relief from the usual "steak-and-ale-pie" output one finds all too often around Cornwall's rugged coastline. Will we be back? You bet your arse.

An excellent find set out of the main village and tucked away behind a restaurant this pub is full of character and while clearly popular with the locals there is also a warm and friendly welcome for the tourist. Friendly cheerful bar staff, good food with fast service, and an excellent selection of real ales served straight from the barrel behind the bar make this a place well worth searching out.
