Farmers, Portinscale

Ate here at weekend. A very friendly nice pub with a good selection of real ales which are not very expensive compared to keswicks pubs. i ordered chicken stuffed with cream cheese and chorizo in a cream sauce(9ish) my wife choosing steak and ale pie both served with fresh veg and chips(frozen) with a portion of home made onion rings. The food was of a high standard except the chips which do appear to be the norm in keswick and surrounding areas having said that we would readily return and would deffinately recommend this little, busy gem.

Queens Hotel, St Bees

Came here on the recommendation of a friend who had ate here for sunday dinner. We arrived by car ordering drinks from a well stocked bar with 5 real ales and sat in conservatory to study the 'paper' menu. We were very dissapointed to see a menu lacking in no imagination whatsoever. This is a nice little hotel in an upmarket affluent village. I'm a bit unsure if this hotel has just been taken over but there is money to be made here but people do want a good variety of foods but this menu would struggle to even drag the most laziest of cooks out of their homes to eat here with the most imaginative meal being lasagne with frozen garlic bread. My wife did say it was ok myself having sirlion steak with frozen onion rings albiet real chips with a mushroom and grilled tomato, no veg(13.95)with the only sauce to accompany this being tomato. This place really does need a proper chef or people can go and get a far better meal anywhere!

The Old Ginn House, Great Clifton

called in on reccomendation of friends. I got mixed grill to eat my wife got tagliatelle and my mother in law got steak. All meals were large, well presented and did include chips made from real potatoes. the meals were all good. Difficult to comment on beers as i was driving but appears to have a good choice. Worth coming here for the food alone which is far better than pub a mile away.

Horse and Farrier Inn, Threlkeld

Called in on a nice very cold february day walking from keswick up the cycle path. a welcoming pub with a lot of character. Didn't have food but there was a good choice of food on the menu.

Swinside Inn, Keswick

Called into this pub whilst out walking having to get across a bridge which although closed was worth crossing saving us a long walk around. A very welcoming pub with real log fires. Didn't have food this time but the food is usually good.

George Hotel, Orton

Returned to the George again. The food was nothing short of super. I chose the lamb shoulder which was huge and tasty with real chunky chips, my wife chose small cow pie with chunky chips. The small cow pie was massive and my wife being a good eater still couldn't finish it .What size the standard pie is could could possibly frighten you! The difference when a pub makes the effort and provides fresh produce. We'll be back!

Heights Hotel and Crag Bar, Castlerigg

Nice cosy hotel bar, friendly atmosphere with friendly staff. Playing 70s/80s background rock music. Real good ales a bit expensive but worth it just to listen to music played by bands before boy bands came along. Havent tried the food as they dont use meat. Strange! My nephew had a meal and said it was wonderful. Takes all sorts!

The Thatch, Croyde

Walked to this pub from woolacombe on a dull day, eventually finding it. Ales were super, tried a few as it was my duty. We were going to order food till we seen the prices so we went back to the red barn for food as it was faultless. This pub would be heading towards a 10 but for the price of the food. Families would need to remortgage!

Red Barn, Woolacombe

Great pub in a great location frequented by surfing wannabies/fancy dress or whatever. Good for people watching and having a bit of a chuckle at some of the people dressed as surfers who dont actually go near the water. Most do and some appear quite good at surfing. The pub itself is full of character and the food is of good quality.

The Watering Hole, Perranporth

Best beach bar weve ever been in in the uk. Location to die for with views...amazing! Live music with good ales, bit expensive but most will pay. Cant wait to return.

The Manor House, St Bees

8 of us went here 3 weeks ago. Very busy on the night which may have accounred for the poor quality of the food. Only a couple got side veg with their meal, 1 got sea bass which came on top of a few of slices of potatoes and little more. Didn't bother with sweets as we needed to go home to get fed.

The Ship Hotel, Maryport

Been here on many occasions over the years and find the owners very hospitable and very welcoming to children letting them play pool, supervised by us. The food is good as well as the real ales.

The Lowther Arms, Maryport

Called into this pub on friday with my wife and 2 16yr olds. Nice friendly welcome in a charming village pub. Ordered meals which came quickly, well presented 2 steak pie, scampi along with beef curry in very large portions with real chips to share, which we could not manage but tried! Greedily we indulged in sweets, including 2 real ales for myself, cokes and coffee, it came to a mere 46! How goods that! Along with a camping/caravan site behind with the same owners, we cant wait to return.

The Ship Launch, Egremont

Good pub with a friendly crowd just away enough to be quiet but good for sport but the most expensive in town. No food only pickled eggs! Good beer garden.

Dog and Gun, Keswick

Best real ale pub in keswick. Selection of ales great and ever changing. Boasts about goulash but had it on many occasions but quite often contains gristle! Why do i keep getting it, dont know! flavour good but the price should be enough not to include fat/gristle. This pub would be a definate 10 but for the fat/gristle.

Bar 7, Keswick

Great mod wine bar in center of keswick. No real ales but good stella and good selection of wines which for keswick, isn't too expensive. Live acoustic music on thursdays which is usually good. Food, cant comment.

Bank Tavern, Keswick

Nice, town center pub. Beer is the best thing about this pub with a great selection of real ales, albiet expensive.Food ok but spoiled by the fact that they cannot peel potatoes and chip them! They serve chip substitutes which have no taste.

The Lysander Arms, Rawcliffe

Stayed on the adjoining caravan park. Entered pub at 7. Good selection of real ales, some york brewery ales ,all good! Had food in the restaurant, again very good. I had rack of lamb, real chips, my wife had sausage mash both super! Back into bar which was very nicely done out. Missed out on what looked like a fantastic beer garden but our weather as always ruined it.
