The White Horse, Wareside

Great food, which is easily restaurant standard. Apparently locally sourced ingredients, and cooked by a trained chef, rather than a barman.

The atmosphere is really relaxed and friendly, and the service is not to be sniffed at.

If you like olde world pubs with big fires, and great good - it's well worth travelling for.

The Anchor, Wadesmill

Went for a meal with my partner on a reasonably busy Valentines day.

Service was fast (5 girls running around taking orders/serving food).

Main course was fairly decent, nothing special but was above average. Filled us up.

Deserts were great, as we both had a sweet tooth. Better than the mains.

Only downsides: my partners food wasn't cooked fully. We asked for a replacement and got one in about 5 minutes. Staff member was a bit forgetful, but this could be forgiven as she was attentive and was extremely busy.

Good pub for a filling meal, but dont expect the earth.

Cant commetn on the drink, as I had bottled cider.

The Salisbury Arms Hotel, Hertford

Expensive hotel, middle class hangout and bar. Good beer, and food but the service isn't always great. Surroundings are very nice, and it's a pleasant place to relax for a quiet night out.

Woolpack, Hertford

Decent pub, McMullens nearest pub to their HQ so always looked after. Not ye olde world, anymore since the refurb and more expensive too. Nice beer garden overlooking the River Lea. Beer is ok too.

The Stonehouse, Hertford

During the day (lunch) its frequented by local business people. Evenings and weekends its a younger crowd who go to party hard. The only place with a 2pm late licence in Hertford, and thereforce gets the people associated with that kind of thing. If you're under 30 and want a noisy dance up, it's the place to go. If not, give it a miss. Meat market, and the DJs aren't great.

White Hart, Hertford

Once was the "Blackbirds" of Hertford. Since rebranding in 2006ish they went upmarket, and have priced themselves out for most people. Almost always quiet, but has picked up recently. Quite expensive. Decent "beer garden". Best when they open the front of the pub up for drinking by the fountain in the market area.

The Snug Bar, Hertford

Called the Snug bar. First bar in hertford to go smoke free, clean, and is quite upmarket. Expensive, I would say overpriced for what you get.

The Duncombe Arms, Hertford

Not a bad pub, allows kids during the day. Cheap and decent pub food. Live acts and bands at the weekend. Quite rowdy but never serious. Good warm up pub or a daytime quiet drink.

The Old Barge, Hertford

Friendly pub, good atmosphere, lots of good beers, cider and ales.

Food is expensive but nice. Average age of punters 30-60.

Best pub in Hertford on a summer's day. Nothing beats sitting by the canal drinking a pint or several.
