| This was probably my most enjoyable visit so far. Vast improvement in service and organisation than on previous occasions. All staff were very pleasant and helpful. Food was good, my rump steak was the tenderest piece of meat I have ever eaten. One thing does puzzle me. Marston pubs have five guest ales during each month of the year (which they publish on a leaflet) but here they do not seem to participate. Three ales were on; the awful regular Pedigree alongside better ales, Forty Niner and Hobgoblin. Even the car escaped damage. fugglehops - 13 May 2013 21:06 |
| Long, long wait to get served Saturday lunchtime. Three hand pumps but only one real ale on, Pedigree. Did not enjoy this visit and could not wait to get out. I should have got out earlier. | Have visited here many times over the years. Some good times and some not so good. With the grumpy old manager long gone now, most visits are now pleasant - if uneventful. This is a typical Marston's two-for-one chain that you can find throughout the country. Last week I ate in a Marston's in Derbyshire, the menu and prices are identical. The bill for four of us each having a main course, sweet and a drink (only one alcoholic) came to �70. Take off the two-for-one meals which reduced it to �50. | Went for a meal with my partner on a reasonably busy Valentines day. Service was fast (5 girls running around taking orders/serving food). Main course was fairly decent, nothing special but was above average. Filled us up. Deserts were great, as we both had a sweet tooth. Better than the mains. Only downsides: my partners food wasn't cooked fully. We asked for a replacement and got one in about 5 minutes. Staff member was a bit forgetful, but this could be forgiven as she was attentive and was extremely busy. Good pub for a filling meal, but dont expect the earth.
