The Lord Raglan, St Pauls

Decent size, pool tables, quite a small bar upstairs & the staff seemed nice enough.

24 Dec 2010 15:35

The One Tun, Goodge Street

Nice enough. Spent a Monday evening here watching the football. Does the job but won't win any awards (apart from that of the award for the world's smallest toilets).

20 Dec 2010 23:51

Bison & Bird, Clapham

Completely baffled by the comments about the staff in this place as I found the staff helpful, nice and efficient. It's quite funny that you get table service considering it's a pub but it meant that I didn't have to get up from watching the football so I can't complain. This is also a really spacious place with a nice interior. I don't normally find myself in Clapham but i'd have no qualms about coming back if I do

15 Dec 2010 11:27

The Gate, Smithfield

Decent enough. Had the place hired out for a friends birthday so I don't know what the usual crowd is like but it all seems very amiable.

13 Dec 2010 11:13

The Rack and Tenter, Moorgate

Surprisingly nice. I imagine it's a great place to visit in the summer as there is the massive open area to stand in outside the pub and then quite a decent area out of the back to stand in. Spacious place inside and I wouldn't be adverse to coming back here.

22 Nov 2010 12:21

Caf Kick, Exmouth Market

Not exactly the largest place in the world so it gets rammed really easily but still a good bar/pub/cafe. Good decor and the table football is a laugh.

17 Oct 2010 11:53

The Minories, Tower Hill

Nice interior, friendly enough staff and great to the watch the football as there are TVs everywhere! I was in here on a Sunday so I don't know what it's like midweek but I wouldn't mind going back to see.

3 Oct 2010 21:48

The Green Man, Bank

Decent enough 'spoons. Nice interior and fairly spacious downstairs. Was very quiet even for a Tuesday evening when I was in there but i'm assuming it was down to the England game being on.

7 Sep 2010 23:02

Pig and Whistle, Ladbroke Grove

This may well become the regular haunt for a quick post-football drink. Empty when we went in there on a Monday save for the old men with their pints and a couple of ropey looking locals. Has the added appeal of a BBQ although I hear that they're not much better than your local burger van job. Ok for a quick drink with friends but that's about it. Oh and special mention to the friendly barmaid.

2 Aug 2010 23:26

The Nags Head, Brentwood

Not exactly a pub. Can't imagine coming in here for a drink.
That aside I won't even be coming back here for a food in a hurry. Shockingly terrible service (the staff appear to be busy doing nothing and I had to wait 10 minuted before I got the chips that were meant to go with my chicken!!!) & over-priced food. For the amount you pay for the food I was expecting something more than just food of a wetherspoons standard.
Avoid. Like. The. Plague.

18 Jul 2010 22:46

The Eva Hart, Chadwell Heath

Was in here on a early Saturday afternoon. None of the expected thuggery were present but I got the feeling I only had to wait an hour or 2 before they turned having walked past this place a number of times previously late on a Saturday night. Thuggish behaviour aside, this place isn't too bad. Spacious with a decent interior and the staff are pleasant and helpful.

10 Jul 2010 22:28

Sway Bar, Holborn

Not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. Was a surprisingly decent crowd and the 2 main rooms are a good size so as not to find it impossible to get from one side of the room to the other. As mentioned in other reviews the music system seems ridiculously loud but maybe that's just because i'm getting older!

3 Jul 2010 11:16

Stone Horse Paper Cow, Liverpool Street

Yes this place appears to be a hidden gem but surely it doesn't need to be so secret that no-one appears to go!! For a Friday night when everywhere else was completely rammed this place was empty! It's got a great layout with a nice interior (pool table, darts and table football!!!) and it's very quirky. I wouldn't imagine you'd come in here for a wild night though.

5 Jun 2010 00:56

The Ring, Southwark

Not open on Saturdays by the looks of it.

17 May 2010 13:05

The Common Room, Ealing Common

Quite possibly the worst burger and chips i've ever had in a pub. And for 10 I would expect a lot better! Not the biggest pub in the world either. It's only plus point is the friendly staff but that's not enough to make me ever want to venture back in here.

4 May 2010 10:27

The Ten Bells, Shoreditch

Surprisingly small place with a surprisingly small bar. Can't imagine staying here for more than an hour or two.

18 Apr 2010 01:56

The Vibe Bar, Shoreditch

Nice place to sit outside in the summer. The inside is not up to much, it's too dark and the music is far too loud depsite the fact that it's a fairly sizeable place which would potentially be a nice place to sit. Surely there are better bars in the area.

18 Apr 2010 01:54

The Valentine, Ilford

Nice and spacious. Went in on a quiet afternoon but looks like it's a decent place.

4 Apr 2010 00:54

The Coal Hole, Strand

I remember popping in here with a mate probably about a year ago now. We went to the bar in the basement which was decent enough. Quite nice and cosy with friendly and efficient bar staff. It wasn't until we left that we realised there was an upstairs bar. Haven't been back in since but wouldn't turn it down if I was in the area.

28 Mar 2010 23:32

The Knights Templar, Chancery Lane

Being a bloke, can I just say how incredible the women's toilets are in this place! There is a full length curvy sofa that could easily fit about 20 people on it! And that's before you even get to the toilets themselves. Not that I find myself sitting in many women's toilets with my male work colleague talking about sport but seeing as the young ladies we were with were so kind to invite us in for a look around we couldn't really say no.

27 Mar 2010 16:31

Light Bar, Shoreditch

Nice interior and the bar staff weren't as rude as everyone else on here says they are. On the other hand the people who walk around collecting your glasses are a pain in the arse! They're very rude and just reach right across to grab your barely finished glass. The people this place attracts are not the most pleasent either. Lot of idiots. There are definitely better places to go then in here.

21 Mar 2010 01:51

Bar Kick, Shoreditch

Was only in here for about an hour but it seemed decent enough. The table football is pretty cool and a nice touch. It's made better by the fact that you can reserve an area if you want to. The surrounding area isn't the nicest though and I don't imagine I would go out of my way to come back.

20 Mar 2010 00:23

Mr Pickwicks, Whitechapel

Whiteknight21 - So just because this place has been shut down for illegal activities it automatically makes it a bad place? Don't be stupid. Shame it's been closed down.

19 Mar 2010 16:10

The Cheshire Cheese, Temple

Cosy but kind of cramped pub. Great place if you're just looking to relax without the hustle and bustle of the other pubs nearby. The games downstairs are good for a laugh as well.

6 Mar 2010 14:58

Number 1 Bar, London Bridge

I think this is now called 'No 1 bar'.
Went in here after a few drinks at Prohibition at St Katherines dock. Wish I hadn't bothered. One of our group recommended the karaoke in this place. It was due to start at 9, it didn't start til 10. Even when it did start the bloke who was running it couldn't get the sound levels right, get the music in time with the lyrics or get a quick change-over between songs (he took about 15 minutes between each song). The word 'amateur' comes to mind. Aside from the karaoke this place is a real dive and I couldn't understand why it was busy (although it is amazingly small so the size probably made it look really popular even though it only appears to be able to accomodate a handful of people).
The bar has a constant queue due to it being so small and considering there are not many places to stand most of the crowd seem to hang around the bar so you can't tell who is queueing up for a drink and who isn't!
I'm baffled as to why anyone would come in here considering the other options in the area and also the fact that you could jump on a tube at London Bridge and be somewhere a million times nicer within a couple of minutes!
Avoid like the plague.

1 Mar 2010 15:24

O'Neills, Soho

Didnt expect much from this place but it turned out to be a really great night. The first two floors are seating areas with the top floor a massive open room thats used as the dance floor. Despite the top floor being massive it does get really busy around 10pm and its nigh impossible to move at about 11pm. The best thing about this place is that it doesnt seem to attract the kind of clientele you might imagine that you would get in a west end club. Its a really decent crowd with a great atmosphere as well. Would have no hesitation in coming back.

22 Feb 2010 10:11

Dean Swift, London Bridge

Been in here twice more since my last visit and have found it decent enough on both occasions. Efficient and friendly bar staff and nice atmosphere.

6 Jan 2010 14:25

Lazy, Tower Bridge

Looks like this place has actually closed now.

30 Dec 2009 23:00

The Sherlock Holmes, Charing Cross

Quite a smart little place. I couldn't imagine staying here for more than a couple (not least beacuse the drinks are surprisingly expensive!!) but it's ok to stop in on your way to somewhere else.

18 Dec 2009 10:34

The Sterling, London

Used to go in here fairly regularly but haven't been back in ages! Smart, spacious & never too busy. Keep meaning to find an excuse to go back in here.

3 Dec 2009 12:05

The George, Temple

Quite cosy when it's not busy. Not a bad place to spend an evening considering the choice of pubs in the area.

27 Nov 2009 22:35

The Mudlark, London Bridge

Nice to sit outside in the summer but the inside is cramped adn stuffy. Better pubs in the area.

27 Nov 2009 22:32

Doggetts Coat and Badge, Southwark

Been in here a couple of times and have always found it pleasant enough. Can sometimes be a bit of an effort to get served when it gets busy.

25 Nov 2009 12:36

The Cittie of Yorke, Holborn

Due to my taste in drinks i'm not the worlds biggest fan of Sam Smith's pubs but this place is quite nice. Decent bar at the back but quite difficult to navigate around if it's rammed.

20 Nov 2009 09:27

The Chamberlain Hotel, Aldgate

Popped in here to catch the last part of the France v Ireland on my way home. Decent sized pub with lots of space (could probably do with a few more chairs & tables) and the friendliest bar staff Ive ever come across in a pub! Wouldnt hesitate to come back in here but I dont always go out round the area & if I did find myself around here there is a fairly decent looking bar across the road and the Minories just down the road which Ive never been in.

19 Nov 2009 09:48

Mr Pickwicks, Whitechapel

Spend a few hours in here a couple of months ago. Tiny place but the owner is a good laugh and the karaoke is quite fun.

13 Nov 2009 13:49

The Captains Cabin, Piccadilly

A great pub off the main road thats a decent alternative to the stuffy bars in the area. Friendly and efficient staff, nice food and a decent crowd. Would have no hesitation in coming back here and if my mate wasnt changing jobs wed probably make this our local.

6 Nov 2009 10:09

Lazy, Tower Bridge

What's happened to this place? I walked past it a couple of times recently and it looks like it's been turned into some kind of dingy night club. It seems to be closed during the day now as well. If it has indeed been turned into a night club then it's really not the best location for it as I don't see the demand for it. Was a much better (and nicer) place when it was just a normal pub.

1 Nov 2009 14:20

The Golden Fleece, Bank

Used to go quite regularly when they had the pool tables downstairs but since they got rid of them I haven't been in quite a while. Deceptively small upstairs (from what I can remember) but a decent area downstairs. Wouldn't be adverse to going back in here if I was looking for a pub in the area.

22 Oct 2009 09:17

The Water Poet, Shoreditch

Full of arty types and architects. I imagine if a businessman in a suit walked in it would be like a scene from a western movie where the whole bar would go silent and everyone would turn around and eye-ball him.
That said, it is a very spacious pub (although there is a distinct lack of seating in the main part of the bar) with a pool table and a big screen for the football. I also hear good stories of the garden out the back but I didnt venture out there. Despite the crowd I wouldnt be adverse to another visit if I was in the area looking for a pub.

19 Oct 2009 08:53

Green Man, Trumpington

Despite the fact that this place was actually quite busy when I was there on a Friday night, it is very spacious and I thought they could have easily put more tables in. Although if it was anymore busy I doubt we would have got served at all.
The service was slow, the food cold and the staff looked completely disinterested.
I looked at the starters and thought the chicken skewers looked nice but thought Id pass and just go for the massive steak instead. Im glad I did. When they say chicken skewers (in the plural sense) you dont expect them to give you just 2 of them! 4/5 for 2. What a rip-off. They clearly think they are some fancy restaurant instead of just a glorified pub.
After passing on the starter I was more than ready for the slightly expensive steak. Despite the steak actually being quite nice and well cooked, of the chips were burnt and the steak was far from hot. There was a group of about 10 of us so I wouldnt have been surprised if my steak been left on the side while the rest of the food cooked so that they could bring all the food out together. If this indeed was the case, its very poor even of a pub to do that.
Overall a fairly nice place let down by quite a few big issues.

28 Sep 2009 10:18

The Penderel's Oak, Holborn

Decent sized pub, always able to get a seat. Decent service. Overall very good for a Wetherspoons.

11 Sep 2009 11:59

Tiger Tiger, Piccadilly Circus

I was in here on a Friday night and having read a load of the reviews about the place on this website beforehand I was prepared for the worst.

Good points:

- Helpful and pleasent staff (I got in early enough to miss the bouncers so I missed out on that part of the experience).

- Smart interior. Although it can get somewhat claustrophobic quite quickly.

- Fairly mixed and decent crowd that seemed to be, on the whole, devoid of the people infected with the 'moron virus' listed in the reviews below.

Bad points:

- Somewhat contrary to my point above there was some of the most obvious (and sometimes frankly disgusting) leering at women going on from the blokes that you'll ever see.

- Anywhere that has their female bar staff wearing skimpy tops and shot girls walking around really shouldn't be pretentious enough to give out change on tray.

- The 'look how expensive my clothes are' approach to dressing can give you a headache after a while.

Overall I didn't find Tiger Tiger too bad. I probably wouldn't rush back as it's a fairly average place that has ideas above it's station and I felt I caught it on a good night.
Oh and special mention to the management who seem to have been clever enough to disable the sink in the toilet furthest away from the toilet attendant so that you have to wash your hands next to him and thus making you feel like you should give him a quid or two. I'm not giving you a tip mate, it's your job.

5 Sep 2009 11:18

The George, Liverpool Street

Been in here a couple of times, mainly to watch the football. Not the largest pub in the world and it's almost impossible to navigate when it's full but it's decent enough.

3 Sep 2009 13:00

The Crosse Keys, Bank

Huge pub. Good atmosphere. More than adequate.

3 Sep 2009 12:57

The Kings Arms, Acton

Not the smartest pub you'll ever come across and you wouldn't exactly spend an entire evening in here but it does the job. A nice spacious pool room as well which is always a bonus.
Special mention to the pleasent barman. I wouldn't much fancy his job of standing around having to talk to the local alcoholics.

27 Aug 2009 13:44

The Lord Moon Of The Mall, Whitehall

Been in here a couple of times now and both times the service at the bar has been terrible. The staff are slow and you almost feel guilty for asking them for a drink. The pub is very spacious but the bar itself is quite small so there is always a queue which means you expect the staff to move a lot quicker (and show a lot more interest in their clients!) than they do.
A fairly horrible crowd inside and I found it quite easy to get in to disagreements at the bar about who was next to be served!
Don't expect too much from the food either. The first time I went in they swapped the chips with my burger for doritos crisps (no joke) and the second time the chicken in my wrap was under-cooked as was my mates burger.
Overall a real grotty place that should make you visit any other pub in the area but this one.

23 Aug 2009 10:53

The Roadhouse, Covent Garden

Sweaty, stuffy & cramped. Avoid like the plague on a Friday or Saturday night. Quite why anyone would pay to get into this place is beyond me.

4 Aug 2009 12:07

The Miller of Mansfield, Borough

Dont be put off by the exterior (or indeed the area), this is a great place. Its very spacious yet cosy at the same time with favourable clientele. Its a surprisingly large pub as well considering how small it looks from the outside. If youre in the area its worth popping in.

28 Jul 2009 14:30

Dean Swift, London Bridge

A nice little place thats cosy and out of the way. A fairly decent crowd as well. Wouldnt be adverse to another visit.

13 Jul 2009 16:07

The Knights Templar, Chancery Lane

A decent enough Wetherspoons. Distinctly lacking in atmosphere but it's nice and spacious (although it can get really busy on a Friday night). As mentioned below, the service could be a lot better. Overall not a bad place but there are better places to go in the area. Speical mention to the cooks who always seem to cook the steaks the same way (medium/near burnt) no matter how you ask for it!!

13 Jul 2009 12:31

The Old Bank of England, Fleet Street

Really smart interior and a nice friendly, comfortable feel to the place but almost impossible to get a seat on the couple of occasions i've been in!

14 Jun 2009 12:29

Roxys, Fitzrovia

Had a good time in here but it's quite an average place. Not as rock or indie as they'd like you to think as the music seemed to be your average club music. Not that that's always a bad thing. It's also not the biggest club in the world so it can rammed very quickly.

14 Jun 2009 12:14

Zebrano, Soho

First off, don't think i'll be back here in a hurry after emptying my wallet for one drink (6.50 for a southern comfort and coke!!!!! The bottled beer starts at about 3 as well). That said, the place is a good size with a nice interior and a pleasent crowd considering the area it's in. Wasn't particularly rammed for a Friday night either. But with a surprisingly decent wetherspoons right next door you'd only come here for a special occasion or if you've got money to burn.

13 Jun 2009 14:09

The Montagu Pyke, Charing Cross Road

Was in here on a Thrusday night. Not overly busy but far from empty. Not your average looking pub and the main room is very spacious. Also has a pretty decent bar at the back. That said the staff arent the happiest people youll ever meet and the toilets could have been cleaner! Cant say Id make this a regular haunt but its decent enough.

1 Jun 2009 12:32

The Moon Under Water, Leicester Square

Despite the very friendly and efficient staff the place itself isn't the nicest. Quite difficult to get a seat and there's hardly anywhere to stand without getting in the way of others. Nice enough if you're popping in for the odd couple but not for a night out.

1 Jun 2009 09:41

Apt Bar, City Of London

Amazingly empty for a Wednesday night (especially considering it was the Champs League final) which made me think that people knew something about this place that I didn't. The interior is nice and spacious and the staff are quite pleasent. Special mention to the bouncer for letting me in even though I was wearing trainers when other places probably would have told me to go elsewhere. Would have to go back to this place on Friday or Saturday to see what's it really like i'd imagine.

1 Jun 2009 09:34

Ye Olde Cock Tavern, Fleet Street

Not as good as it used to be a couple of years ago when the interior and the staff were a lot nicer (one of the barmaids really doesn't enjoy working there by the looks of it). It also doesn't attract the crowds that it used to. That said, it's still a pleasent enough pub and the food is very good.

17 Apr 2009 18:17

Cargo, Shoreditch

You won't find a non-indie, non-flouncy arty type person anywhere inside but it is worth visiting for the great garden type area out the back alone. The main room also got uncomfortably rammed on the night I was there!

17 Apr 2009 18:12

Pommelers Rest, Tower Bridge

A pleasent enough place without being too spectacular.

14 Mar 2009 13:29

The Half Moon, Stepney Green

A surprisingly decent pub for the area but that's not saying much. Despite it's pleasent decor and size it hasn't got the best atmosphere due to the punters that seem to frequent it. One good point is the outside seating which is quite nice for the odd couple of drinks in the summer.

14 Mar 2009 13:21

Lazy, Tower Bridge

Went in to watch the football on Boxing Day. Nice interior, friendly staff and quite a smart little place despite it being in Bermondsey!
