The Black Horse Hotel, Northfield
Lovely building but that's all it has going for it! Typical Wetherspoons - Young innatentive staff that would rather chat amongst themselves or their pals than serve. Ale not brilliant (and dearer than other Wetherspoon - despite being in a poor area). Seems to be plenty of ales called "available soon". Had a Christmas meal here with some pals a couple of years ago. It was a toss up which was colder, the food or the room we were sat in! Nice pub, crap staff and it IS in Northfield - nuff said

Haven't been in here for some time (several years). Visited Friday night with a couple of friends. About 20 people in and we got a funny look when we walked in. Barmaid very inattentive. Not very welcoming especially as it was a Friday night and not very busy - barman had mobile phone constantly clamped to his ear. No real ale had to make do with Boddingtons (which wasn't too bad at £2 pint) Karaoke night. As prospective new customers we should have been welcomed a little better.- very cliquey pub. Think very carefully before coming here again

The Navigation Inn, Kings Norton
The Navi lives on. The co-op have pulled out and it has to remain as a pub. The trouble with this pub is that it has been badly "managed" for years and has become very run down and has acquired a reputation for trouble , this again being due to bad management and lack of staff control. The pub itself is a lovely building but In all of my 30 years drinking I have never seen a building become so dilapidated. There are buckets everywhere collecting rain coming through the roof, part of the ceiling has collaped, paper and plaster coming of the walls and the toilet plumbing is beyond belief! This pub desperately needs a change of owner, new management and new staff. This could be a great pub - it deserves better.

A very welcoming, friendly locals pub. Great if you don't want to drink with students. Staff friendly and the food is very good and reasonably priced. Only Two little moans: food availability and severely limited real ale. Overall a great little pub!

Really not the best of JDW establishments. The staff seem more interested in chatting to each other or fiddling with the back bar display than actually serving customers and some of them (including the manageress!) could do with a lesson in manners / civility. The ales are sometimes of dubious quality and the availability is equally spartan. It is clean and tidy but suffers from screaming uncontrolled children running around the whole pub whithout being challenged by the staff. Unfortuneately a bus stop is right outside so the entrance is used as bus stop refuge, especially on inclement nights. Smokers have to stand in the high street which is a magnet to scroungers and beggars. Have eaten here once or twice - ok, typical JDW fare.

The Goose At The OVT, Selly Oak
Something has gone very wrong with this pub ever since Stonegate pub co took it over (along with all other M&B "Goose" pubs) The food is still the same crap but only 75% dearer. Constantly changing staff -all students - are vacuous and have no incling how to serve beer. Mindful that this is a student pub it is really bad considering I have been drinking in here for the thick end of Thirty years! Real ale - don't go there
