Typical large Wetherspoons with typical customer base. Rather appropriately in the Pear Tree, I opted for the Pear Shaped perry from Sandford Orchards. Ales were Sharps Doom Bar, Woodfordes Norfolk Champion, Greene King George & Flagon & Abbot, Ruddles Best & Titanic Iceberg. Ciders were Westons Wyld Wood, Gwynt y Ddraig Black Dragon & Thatchers Cheddar Valley. Probably the best selection of drinks in Kings Heath and for the best prices. blue_scrumpy - 11 May 2015 17:19 |
Can't fault the quality and price of the real ale always something good behind the bar . The atmosphere is fine and I like the architecture. Food can be hit of miss though Biffabacon - 24 Jan 2015 17:00 |
Visited on a Monday (on holiday OK!) busy but no bother and no screaming kids. Everyone going about their business and having a relaxing beer or 3. About 5 ales on, had a 5%er which the barmaid informed me was a bit more expensive on a Monday than a Sunday....£1.85. The Pear Tree may have it`s critics but for beer quality and price it`s a tough one to beat. Blastbeat - 15 Aug 2014 09:10 |
Really not the best of JDW establishments. The staff seem more interested in chatting to each other or fiddling with the back bar display than actually serving customers and some of them (including the manageress!) could do with a lesson in manners / civility. The ales are sometimes of dubious quality and the availability is equally spartan. It is clean and tidy but suffers from screaming uncontrolled children running around the whole pub whithout being challenged by the staff. Unfortuneately a bus stop is right outside so the entrance is used as bus stop refuge, especially on inclement nights. Smokers have to stand in the high street which is a magnet to scroungers and beggars. Have eaten here once or twice - ok, typical JDW fare. tankard - 12 Jan 2013 20:28 |
