Maypole, Wilford

Now renamed Wilford Green. Gastro-style pub now with four handpumps on. Looks in better shape to survive than the Maypole did.

The Ropewalk, Nottingham

Now serving 5 real ales at all times, condition's good too. 25p off a half and 50p off a pint for CAMRA members, but 5pm-9pm weekdays it's 1 off a pint for everyone. Makes it typically 2.10 a pint at the moment if you time it right.

The City, Manchester

'Discovered' the evening before working at the National Winter Ales Festival in 2010, on my list to revisit this year, so I did. Certainly reminds me of a few pubs around Nottingham I know, but the real ale was good and I'd happily go in time after time if I lived locally. Shame I was the only person in there at the time.

57 Thomas Street, Manchester

Don't like the name and the Ginger Marble was more overpoweringly ginger than I've ever had it. In saying that the pub itself seemed friendly and well decorated, I wouldn't want to be in there while it's busy though.

The Ape and Apple, Manchester

Great condition Mild and Bitter on visits last two years. It retains character for the area and era when it was built, not always great as a local but refreshing as a visitor.

The Peveril Of The Peak, Castlefield

Passed it yesterday afternoon, but closed and didn't have time to revisit later (a quick look on my phone suggested it opened at 7pm and my train was at 7.45pm). Nice looking building from outside, a real gem. The landlady celebrates 40 years running the pub on 27th January 2011, earlier comments suggest keeping the quality high may be a struggle possibly due to immobile bar staff and/or lack of custom due to restricted opening times (reminiscent of when landlady first arrived).

The Cross Keys, Nottingham

Now owned by Great Northern Inns and doing a great job. CAMRA discount plus 5 real ales.

14 Jun 2010 10:48

The Pheasant Inn, Nottingham

Wasted handpumps. Here's hoping they'll be used again at some point in the future as the pub itself isn't as bad as you'd expect for the area.

14 Jun 2010 10:46

Bensons, Nottingham

Stopped serving real ales and seemed to be changing management, then started again with new managers, now no longer. Wasn't sensational quality when it did. Vicious circle with quality and trade.

14 Jun 2010 10:42

The Nottingham Arms, Radford

Closed a long time ago.

14 Jun 2010 10:40

The Malt Cross, Nottingham

Has been serving real ale for over 6 months now. Currently up to three. A little bit pricier, but worth a visit.

14 Jun 2010 10:35

The Dominie Cross, Retford

Simple way to make it look less shabby, everyone returns their glasses when finished. Why don't more people do this in pubs anyway? Do we think barstaff don't work hard enough already?

10 Jun 2010 07:20

The Old Colonial, West Bridgford

Made the mistake of visiting during the Man U v Chelsea match last year forgetting that Nottingham was a hotbed for these supporters. Beer poor but didn't expect much more.

14 Apr 2010 12:36

Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, Nottingham

cynthiaxuk - It would have probably been either Legend or Rock Mild.

5 Apr 2010 00:11

Yates's, Nottingham

Now serves real ale and I've even had a pint of Bombardier on a Wednesday afternoon for 99p recently.

5 Apr 2010 00:09

The Willoughby Arms, Wollaton

Now called the Wollaton. Had a beer festival there a couple of weeks back. Beer usually in pretty decent nick and always at least one locally brewed.

5 Apr 2010 00:04

The White Horse Inn, Radford

Currently being turned into yet another takeaway/cafe for the area so deprived of them.

5 Apr 2010 00:00

The White Hart, Nottingham

Reopened and was serving real ale (Nottingham Brewery as now a freehouse) during its first week. Haven't been back in since, but looked like they wanted to put some effort into it.

4 Apr 2010 23:58

Joseph Else, Nottingham

The 'Joseph Else' is a decent Wetherspoons (that's right I know how to spell it unlike those complaining). Food is as expected and the decor itself isn't anything special. The beer range and quality has improved somewhat under the current manager though. If it looks too busy, just turn around but when it's quieter well worth a short stop.

4 Apr 2010 23:57

Scruffy's, Nottingham

Reopened. Now serves real ales, Springhead usually. Popular with younger clientele especially students.

4 Apr 2010 23:35

Sausage, Nottingham

The name is now Strada

4 Apr 2010 23:33

The Running Horse, Nottingham

Closed and boarded

4 Apr 2010 23:32

Queen Adelaide, Sneiton

Excellent beer, great breakfasts on Saturday mornings and good quality no nonsense meals in evenings (by that I don't mean cheap and tasteless by the way). Beer range is excellent and quality top notch. Gilly and Alita (and Monty the pub dog) are the perfect hosts.

4 Apr 2010 23:18

The Pullman Inn, Widmerpool

Last visited in December 2009 and quiet, almost sterile atmosphere. Service seemed to be concentrated on food. Had a swift-ish drink and was below average. Always hope a pub like this improves as it's a shame to lose, but it's catch 22. No good and they lose custom, to improve they at least need more customers to break even, to get those customers they need to improve.

4 Apr 2010 23:14

The Portland Arms, Nottingham

Rapidly dropping off as years go by. Beer quality usually average at best, IPA and Olde Trip only. Was on mild trail a few years ago but been suffering every time I visit since.

4 Apr 2010 23:09

The Poachers Pocket, Nottingham

'Poachers Tavern' lettering and signage still present. Now an Indian restaurant inside though. Retains bar but serves keg only.

4 Apr 2010 16:48

The Plough and Harrow, Hucknall

Real ale back on now, GK only though - IPA and Abbot around Christmas 2009.

4 Apr 2010 16:46

The Pit and Pendulum, Nottingham

Theakston Best Bitter, reasonable price, average quality. Worth supporting with the occasional half/pint and the quality might improve and range increase.
As ever though this has it's own unique character.

4 Apr 2010 16:43

Magpie, Stapleford

Much improved from 18 months ago when it looked like we'd lose it. Current management have gone to 2 regular cask ales and up to 2 guests. Trade seems to be busier than when it was up for sale.

4 Apr 2010 16:15

The Jolly Higglers, Nottingham

Closed and boarded up

4 Apr 2010 16:00

The Fox at Sneinton, Sneinton

I believe it has now been refurbished, unfortunately as a separate business. No longer a pub.

4 Apr 2010 15:43

The Flying Bedstead, Hucknall

Apparently has new managers and real ale available.

4 Apr 2010 15:42

The Dunkirk Inn, Dunkirk

Reopened as free house. Reg de Souza is a great bloke and the pub is slowly heading back to its former glory.

4 Apr 2010 15:29

Cross Keys, Epperstone

Be warned as this pub closes after about 2pm even on Saturdays. Get there early or for the evening.

4 Apr 2010 14:44

The Corn Mill, Toton

Has turned into a 'Hardy's House' under GK rebranding (perhaps it's they who need branding at times). Shame no XX Mild as it was one guaranteed decent beer in there, but others are okay.

4 Apr 2010 14:42

The Colonel Burnaby, Nottingham

Has been serving real ale recently. Worth a look to support a pub in an area that used to have so many more than it does now.

4 Apr 2010 14:40

Chequers Inn, Stapleford

A short walk to the Horse & Jockey offers quality locally brewed real ales and a much better atmosphere.

4 Apr 2010 14:37

Charlton Arms, Chilwell

Usually a cask of Greene King IPA or Well's Bombardier available. Prices reasonable, quality not so.

4 Apr 2010 14:35

The Warren Arms, Stapleford

Demolished now. Planned to be replaced by more shops that won't do business.

9 Jan 2010 13:20

The Feathers Tavern, Stapleford

Closed for about a year now. No signs of reopening.
